Hi Merlina,
u have to find the default servlet running folder in ur weblogic.
place ur servlet class file in that folder and run ur servlet using a
url which e.g could be
http:\\ur-servletfolder-location\SimpleServlet
in this way u can view ur servlet.
I m not familiar with weblogic.I have just given u a general idea on which I can help u. I use Tomcat.
I hope this helps or atleast give u some clue.
thanks,
savdeep.

  • Unable to run Servlet program using J2EE SDK

    Hello,
    i am a newbie to all this j2ee stuff and servlets even.so the problem that i have maybe a very common one and i hope that most of you may have a fix to it...
    i use J2EE SDK to compile and run Servlet programs.I have a Servlet program with the class name defined as
    public class MyServlet extends HttpServlet ....
    the file is stored as MyServlet.java
    i set the CLASSPATH variable so that the required classes for the compilation of the program can be located.
    the program compiles without any glitches.
    However when i run the program by saying
    java MyServlet
    ( i dont think its any different to run servlet code is it?)
    i get the message
    java.lang.NoClassDefFoundException:MyServlet
    Can someone suggest a remedy?
    thank you
    -NDK

    First, I don't understand what you are trying to do. Running a servlet ?
    Servlets are ran by an application server ! (Apache Tomcat ....).
    Second, is your class in any package ?

  • How to Run servlet in Tomcat 5.5.9

    hi
    How to run servlet in tomcat 5.5.9?how to set context path in server.xml of conf folder in tomcat since there is no context tag in server.xml.
    Jiten

    Hi ! I have a similar problem, well, it's along the same line ...
    I'm using NetBeans 4.1, and i've coded a servlet. Using NetBeans to launch my servlet (with the bundled Tomcat 5.5.7) works fine, however i need to deploy my application unto a Tomcat 5.5.9 server.
    Thus, i copied the WAR file generated by NetBeans into the Tomcat 5.5.9 webapps directory, and Tomcat expands it.
    Problem is when i run my JSP pages with the form tags, they do not work on the Tomcat 5.5.9 environment. Anyone knows why?
    (These work on the NetBeans Tomcat bundle 5.5.7)
    My form action :
    <form name="index" method="get" action="PageServlet">
    My web.xml :
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name>PageServlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>application.PageServlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>PageServlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/PageServlet</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>
    I'm really stumbed on why it doesn't work in Tomcat 5.5.9, any help is greatly appreciated, thanks in advance ^_^

    Hi,
    How to run Servlet in Tomcat 5.5.7 Server. I mean where I should copy my *.class file.
    Thanks in Advance.
    bbye.

    In order to complile the servlet you need to tell java where to find the servlet libary (as stated above by setting the class path). or (much easier IMO)
    copy the servlet-api.jar to
    JavaInstallDirectory\jre\lib\ext

    Hi,
    I am new to servlet and am having trouble running a simple servlet on tomcat 4.1.18. I keep getting an Error 404 resource not found. will someone show me how to run servlet on tomcat?Please.

    To start, make sure you have specified the servlet and mapping in your application's WEB-INF/web.xml file.
    <!-- for example -->
    <servlet>
        <servlet-name>yourServletName</servlet-name>
        <servlet-class>path.to.Servlet</servlet-class>
    </sevlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
        <servlet-name>yourServletName</servlet-name>
        <url-pattern>/servlet/yourServletName</url-pattern>
    </servlet-mapping>

    hi
    If you want run a servlet in tomcat4.1,First write one html file,and servlet file.
    finally you need to write web.xml.this file will be placed in web-inf folder.
    You need to write this tags to run a servlet in tomcat 4.1
    <servlet>
    <servlet-name> name of the servlet</servlet-name>
    <servlet-class>class name of the servlet</servlet-class>
    </servlet>
    <servlet-mapping>
    <servlet-name>name of the servlet</servlet-name>
    <url-pattern>/the ref name which u want call servlet</url-pattern>
    <servlet-mapping>
    Here the servlet name sholud be same .
    The url pattern name must match with the action attribute value in html.
    now you place your html file in root folder.
    place your servlet class file in classes folder.
    start ur browser type this http://localhost:8080/htmlfilename.

  • Re: Running servlets automatically.

    this is the Continuation of my previous post Running servlets automatically.
    Hi everybody tnx for ur replies.
    I will explain my problem in detail here,so that somebody can suggest me an suitable solution.
    i need to update one table in DB for every six hours.for that purpose i have written a class with thread.sleep().
    This class updates the table and sleeps for six hours and it runs after that delay......this process repeats....until the execution is terminated manually.
    in the beginning i specified this class as the startup class of the server, but as this class uses thread.sleep() method , it takes the control for ever..and never let the server to run...
    so i make this class to run in an independent window
    the execution of the class is triggered by the server when it starts.this will open a DOS window and the execution of the class begins.
    but the execution continues even after the server gets terminated..coz..it is running as a separate process not under the server process.
    but i need to terminate this updation process after the server gets terminated..
    so i decided to use an dedicated servlet for this purpose.,..coz it will b terminated after the server gets terminated.
    The servlet should
    start automatically when the server starts..
    and it has to call the Updation class methods..
    and prints the result message ..
    it has to call itself after six hours delay..
    this delay should not affect other components of the server and its processes.
    plz help me
    thanx in advance
    Regards
    -John-

    Personnally a Servlet isn't the correct way to perform this task. I'ld use a ServletContextListener, add the instance to the ServletContext so then it can be accessed from say startScheduler.jsp, endScheduler.jsp & displayStatusOfScheduler.jsp.
    Your web.xml would need the following added:<listener>
         <listener-class>package.subpackage.ContextLifeCycleListener</listener-class>
    </listener>Create the listener.package package.subpackage;
    imports ...
    public class ContextLifeCycleListener implements ServletContextListener {
         private ServletContext servletContext = null;
         private ContextLogger contextLogger = new ContextLogger( false );
         public void contextInitialized( ServletContextEvent servletContextEvent ) {
              servletContext = servletContextEvent.getServletContext();
              servletContext.setAttribute( "backgroundScheduler", this );
         public void contextDestroyed( ServletContextEvent servletContextEvent ) {
              terminateScheduler();
         public void startScheduler() {
              // ... Start Scheduler Processing
         public void terminateScheduler() {
              // ... Terminate Scheduler Processing
         public String//boolean status() {
              return ?; // boolean, eg scheduler on or off
              // String, eg "Off", "On", "Running"
    }That will create a process which starts when the context does & is informed when the context is restarted or stopped. This then hides it away meaning someone can't access it directly by typing in a url. Only your Servlet/JSP/JSTL can access it via the ServletContext Attribute "backgroundScheduler".

  • How I can run servlets in Apache 1.3.2.7

    hi i am using JSP as Interface..and Servlets as controller...
    also Using Apache Httpd server,verion is 1.3.2.7
    plz tell me how i can use apache to run my servlets.
    Rahul.

    To run servlets in Apache you need the mod_jk module. But as the previous post, it is better to use Tomcat and putting both, Apache and Tomcat, working together. Tomcat will serve all the java related things, and the Apache, the html, php, etc.

  • Long running servlet in a single node of a cluster

    Good evening,
    I am developing a J2EE application that consists of a number of web services that perform background processing of relatively long-running jobs.  Status of the jobs actually need to be reported back to the SAP ABAP system, which we do via JCo.  All communication back to ABAP occurs in a single long-running, JMS driven servlet.  This callback servlet uses both a timestamp (last time status was sent back) or a  count of status events to determine when to send data to the ABAP system.
    All of this works great in a single Java instance J2EE configuration.  However, when we introduce clustering into the configuration, we get one instance of the callback servlet per J2EE server process.  Is there an easy way to configure the servlet so that it only runs on a single J2EE server process in one instance?
    TIA,
    - Bill

    Hi Bill,
    Launching manually threads even from a web container is also not recommended as good J2EE practice.
    If each applications launches its own set of threads that may easily crash the server. Another drawback of such long running servlet is that you are blocking application thread from the server. One last point - it seems that you are storing the data in the servlet at some intermediate variables without any persistance. What will happen if the server crashes ? Can you afford to loose the data ?
    I am not implying that you launch threads from the MDB. I am just saying that you could define that single MDB and send messages directly to it. You do the job there inside the onMessage, no new thread. You will be guaranteed that no other call will be executed. You are guaranteed nothing will be lost in case server crashes, you will not use resources even if there is no traffic.
    Btw, please feel free to give me a phone call or write an email to further discuss the issue. You can take the details from your CSN I am currently processing
    Best Regards
    Peter
