Run two skype accounts on Mac OSX 10.6.8

This is an idiotic problem that occurs when you don't pay attention to the launch screen when you open Skype. Make sure that the check box that says log me in when I sign on is unchecked. If you ck it or it gets ck'd by the system when you first login you're forever tied to that acct. without recourse to another.I'm having the same problem because it's really diffiuclt to uncheck from the splash screen because everything happens so quickly !Skype should really fix this problem through another interface option for changing this. It's really stupid that such a great product has this idiotic flaw in the interface.I don't have time to complain about it to them, so any help on this front appreciated. Also an easier to access live chat or phone in customer support option would make them a lot of money....if anyone is listening ?

I can easily run as many versions of Skype as I want (currently I have about 7 running).  I'll detail the process below.  But for those who already know how, my issue is that I can't copy/cut/paste in any of the non-primary instances because they are being run under other user accounts.  Any ideas on how to get the other user clipboards to function? To open multiple versions:1) System Preferneces2) Users & Groups3) Click the lock on the bottom left and enter your admin password4) Click the '+' sign above the lock5) Click the dropdown at the top and select Administrator.6) When naming the account I suggest staying consistant (account1, account2, etc.)  MAKE SURE YOU ENTER A PASSWORD.  THIS WONT WORK IF YOU DONT MAKE A PW.7)  In applications goto Utilities >> Terminal  Type:  su account## -c "/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype && exit"For the step above, replace account## with whatever account name you made.9)  Enter the password for that account. As mentioned above, you can't cut/copy/paste in any of the secondary accounts, so if anyone knows a way around this it would be very helpful.  Thanks.

  • Undo running two Skype accounts

A few months ago, I set up my PC to allow two Skype accounts to run at the same time (which was a pretty easy process). I did this so I could have my business and personal accounts running at the same time. Unfortunately, with this merge my Skype window doesn't pop up for 1-5 minutes after I sign in, and when I click on the Skype icon to get it to auto-pop-up, it just provides me a new sign in screen.
The rest of my computer runs perfectly and I no longer need two accounts running at once. I tried un-installing Skype and re-installing it. No change. I also browsed through the properties, but I'm not overly savvy with the backend or deep-software capabilities. I also tried to reinstall a previous version of Skype, but the button to restore is faded and showing unavailable (although I can see there's a previous version from 4 months ago). I just want to go back to the original one account running at a time.
    Please help!

In order to be able to run two Skype accounts at the same time you must have created a new shortcut with the “/secondary” switch in the Target field.
    https://support.skype.com/en/faq/FA829/how-can-i-run-two-skype-accounts-on-the-same-computer
The only what you need to do now is to delete this “/secondary” switch from the path in the shortcuts Target field.

  • Run two Skype accounts, same phone

How can I run two Skype accounts on the same Android phone?

In order to use 2 Skype accounts on the same phone, you need to switch between accounts back and forth by signing out of one and signing into the other.
To do that, press on the phone menu button while you are in Skype page then choose Sign Out from the menu that will appear. You will be directed to the sign in screen. Enter the other username and password

  • Work two Skype accounts simultaneously on Mac?

    Hi,
I'm considering a Skype Business Account but would like to keep my private account running at the same time (without logging on/off to toggle accounts). There seems to be a workaround for Windows (by running "C:\Programme\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe" /secondary). Is there something comparable for the Mac?
    Thanks,
    Caddis

This solution requires the use of Terminal, an app included in Mac OS. It is an advanced-user app that might be intimidating for basic users but is quite simple to use, at least for the intentions of this solution.
The instructions are written for the inexperienced-in-Terminal basic user. Otherwise, this solution can be inferred by the solutions posted in the links at the end of this post.
    Instructions
Having Skype already installed in your computer and already open:
    1. Open Terminal. (If you don't know where to find it you can search it using Spotlight)
    2. On the window that Terminal opens (a white window with a line of text awaiting for you to type) write: "sudo /Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype" (you can copy&paste from here, it has to be everything between the quotation marks, including the space between "sudo" and "/App..." EXCLUDE the quotation marks).
    3. Terminal will ask for your user account password (the same you use when you log in to your computer or install an app).
    4. After a few seconds a second window of Skype will open.
    5. You can close the Terminal window if you wish. (Some users reported this closes Skype too although it hasn't happened to me, if it does you will have to minimize Terminal and keep it open as long as you need the two accounts.)
This solution/procedure is based in the very similar solutions posted by:
    kai_schroder in http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Work-two-Skype-accounts-simultaneously-on-Mac/m-p/272748/highlight...

    ems_904 in http://community.skype.com/t5/Mac/Is-there-a-way-to-sign-on-to-multiple-Skype-accounts-at-the-same/m...
Note for advanced users: This solution is basically the same kai_schroder posts although greatly explained for basic users. Compared to the other two solutions, it simplifies the need of a second user account in the computer by using the 'sudo' command in Terminal.
FOR SKYPE: Clearly Mac users are in need of a better solution from Skype.

  • Running two different versions of mac os on  same  machine

I have canon software that only works in 10.4 wheras I'm on 10.5. Initially I was thinking I could use bootcamp to install 10.4 on the same machine and run the software but then I heard about paralels and thought I might be able to do this. Can I run two different versions of mac osx on the same machine, and if so how easy is it to switch between versions?? Thank you!!

Cool, thanks very much for the advice. If I am running 10.4 on an external is there anything I should bear in mind? Size wise what are the considerations?
I have 10.4.11 running on a small partition on my TM drive on each of my MBPS. They were and are my Tiger backups when I first installed Leopard. They run, I update them and occasionally use them.
Just hold down Option key on boot and the Tiger OS shows up. They are clones, created with SuperDuper. CCC works equally as well.

  • Does anybody know how I can run multiple skype accounts on my macbook air?  I found workarounds on youtube, followed the steps to set-up a second skype account but I can't login using the second account.

How do I run multiple skype accounts on my macbook air.  I'm using MAC OS X 10.6.8.  I followed the workaround steps on youtube to set up a skype b account (application and folder) but when I open the skype b account I can't login. I get an error message saying "please check your network settings and try again".  My 1 skype account works but I need to run 2 skype accounts at the same time, 1 for a client and my own personal account.

  • How do I quickly* switch between two Skype account...

I have a need to be able to quickly* switch between two Skype accounts on my Windows 7 desktop computer.
Both accounts have high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords.
Many products have a facility for doing this, remembering recent account/password combinations, or having linked accounts.
Does Skype have a way of doing this?
And if it doesn't, how do I request it get one be developed?
I use a password manager, LastPass, but of course Skype isn't a browser so it doesn't work with Lastpass.
    * "Quickly switch" means without switching computer sign-on accounts and without re-typing the high-security difficult-to-remember and hard-to-type passwords many times per day.
I understand you're all volunteers.  Thank you very much for your efforts on this.

This can be done by setting up an another Skype client in a separate directory and with a shortcut containing the extra /datapath, /removable and /secondary switches.

For your purpose you can make use of a copy of Skype.exe of the already installed Skype application.

  • Two Skype Accounts; Can They be Merged?

I have two skype accounts, one I set up and could not use, but it has credit. The other is current, and I would like to merge them, or transfer the balance from one to the other, so i can use the pending credit. Does anyone know how to do this? Is there real tech support for skype, or just user community? Also, I Just got a recharge, (when credit falls below a certian amout, skpe can automomatically recharge your balance, and charge you) but I'm SURE I didn't sign up for this. I've de selected this option after being charged $10, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had this experience.

Hi, Valirosi, and welcome to the Community,
I arranged to transfer your post to the Skype Account: Rates & Subscriptions message board as it did not quite fit where you had added it.
Skype does not permit any credit, features, or subscriptions to be transferred from one account to another.  Likewise, Skype accounts can not be "merged" to create one new account, and neither can one Skype account be merged or folded into another.
You would need to request a refund of credit you do not need from the account where you no longer need it, and purchase new credit for the account where you will use it.
For subscriptions and call features, you would need to cancel the subscriptions on the account you will not be using, and purchase new subscriptions for the account where you would use the subscription or feature.
Credit tops up automatically by default; if you do not wish to use this facility, you will need to disable it within your account details.  Check your account settings just one more time ...

Here is a link to the instruction on how to contact Skype Customer Service via their secure portal: Contact Customer Service
I add this information in an effort to help walk you through the process:
You will need to proceed through each step, one at a time. Sign on to the Skype website as requested. Choose the subject and topic which most closely matches the item you need assistance with. Then, continue past Step 2 of the instruction where several articles from the FAQ library will appear for you to review, and proceed to Step 3, Continue Support Request (the blue "button" appears at the lower right corner of the website page). You may also skip through Step 4 where you will be referred back here to the Community; no need to do this as the Community is where you started. When you complete the webform and click Submit, your information is relayed to Skype and you will receive a reply via e-mail.
If you are a Skype Premium or other eligible customer, you will be routed to start an instant message chat session with a Customer Service agent.

I run 3 email accounts on Mac Mail, all 3 disappeared after doing the latest OS X update. I have tried adding the accounts back but no mail appears. Help!

The mailbox list is divided into categories with headings in caps, such as ON MY MAC. When you hover the cursor over one of those headings (except for MAILBOXES), you should see the word Show or Hide on the right. Click Show. The  MAILBOXES category can't be hidden.
In each category, the mailboxes are arranged in groups, such as Inbox. To the left of each group is a small disclosure triangle. If the triangle points to the right, click it so that it points down.

  • I have two Skype accounts on the same email; why c...

I have two Skype accounts, and both are connected to the same Microsoft account. One is for my online life, and the other is for those who I care about in my offline life; why can I only access the (original) account for my online 'friends'? If I try and log in using my Skype Name and password, it won't let me. I've tried resetting the password, but it sends it to my gmail, not to my outlook.
Does anyone know how I can log onto my other account through my microsoft account?
EDIT: I've also just noticed that my profile thing for Skype Community is what my Skype should be showing, but it's not...

  • Using two Skype accounts at the same time

I need to stay online under two different accounts, so that I can chat with two different classes of clients.
As of today I can only alternate between users. Is there a way I can open two accounts at the same time?
I'm on an Intel iMac, running OSX Mountain Lion.
    Thanks for any hints.

There's no proper way to do it - although forcing another instance of Skype as a different user seems to work... but test it thoroughly yourself before using with clients. Audio plays from both apps, not sure about mic. input. I'm not recommending it, and only tested briefly with Skype 6.3.59.602, but anyway...
For example - if you create another user account on the mac - named test, and after opening Skype as normal in your usual account, open Terminal & paste the following + enter
    su test -c "/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype &"; exit
you should be asked for test's password in Terminal, then another Skype will open, although you'll likely get a warning message or two (choose cancel).

    To open multiple versions:
    1) System Preferneces
    2) Users & Groups
    3) Click the lock on the bottom left and enter your admin password
    4) Click the '+' sign above the lock
    5) Click the dropdown at the top and select Administrator.
    6) When naming the account I suggest staying consistant (account1, account2, etc.)  MAKE SURE YOU ENTER A PASSWORD.  THIS WONT WORK IF YOU DONT MAKE A PW.
    7)  In applications goto Utilities >> Terminal
     Type:
    su account## -c "/Applications/Skype.app/Contents/MacOS/Skype && exit"
For the step above, replace account## with whatever account name you made.
    9)  Enter the password for that account.
As mentioned above, you can't cut/copy/paste in any of the secondary accounts, so if anyone knows a way around this it would be very helpful.  Thanks.

  • What is the most reliable way to run one Windows accounting program in Osx 10.5.8?

I have a simple Windows application where I basically do my accounts. I do not want to tie up my Imacs resources with running a full Windows Os "emulation" like Paralells or VMware Fusion just to run a simple accounting program.
I have heard about apps that can run one windows application at the time through a kind of Osx Application which emulates windows some how. Is is true that this is a better way of running my accounting program? Is it reliable? What I do is to punch in invoices and print out reports basically. How much resources does this "consume" to run it in "one simple application mode" in comparison with for example Paralells?
And what is the term for running windows in "one simple application mode"?

I guess you could try the free trial of CrossOver. http://www.codeweavers.com/products/crossover/ You did not say what app you want to run so it is difficult for us to recommend crossover as being able to run the app.
But your question is that you are looking for the "most reliable" way to run a Windows program. In my opinion you need Parallels or Fusion. These run the real Windows OS so my thinking is it is the "most reliable" method of running a Windows app on an Apple computer, other than Boot Camp.
But you said you don't want Parallels. This is probably why you have not received any responses. You eliminated the most reliable and easiest method, in my opinion, when you initially posted. Parallels does not consume any resources until you start it up to use your app. You can close it after you are done with your app. Of course hard drive space is required for storing the OS, your app, and data. But you still need to store your app and data regardless of method you choose.
One more thing, Parallels and Fusion create a virtual machine for running Windows.
So my recommendation, use Parallels or Fusion.
