Run Windows only program on Mac for without buying windows?

I need to run a windows compatable only program on my mac. I do not own any version of Windows or any virtualPC/Parallels type software.
I don't want to buy windows or anything for that matter.
What do I do?
Also, I'm not super smart on computers, so please reccomend something that someone only slightly smarter than the average layman can do.
Thank-you

There may be a Mac equivalent that you don't know about. What program is it that you want to run? Someone here might know of a Mac program that you can use instead.

  • Does Java 7 run on only x64 bit MAC OS X?

I want to deliver self-contained application packages on Windows, Linux and Mac so I have build my JavaFX application on all three platforms. I will allow my users to download these native bundles from my application's download web page but I have a confusion regarding MAC users because For Linux and Windows, JDK/JRE 7 comes in two download options
    1. for x86
    2. for x64.
but for MAC we have only option for x64.
Java Download Page shows Java/Jre is not available for 32 bit MAC OSX to run JavaFX application. Does it mean JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?
If it is so, then my issue has been solved, as I have already bundled my Javafx application as a "Self-Contained Application Packages" after run custom build.xml script on x64 MAC OSX but if it is not so, the user can also run JavaFX application on x86 MAC OSX but in that case my "Self-Contained Application Packages" for mac would not run on x86 MAC OSX.
So I am planning to give an additional zip file that either contains app (without copy of jre) or a plain self executable jar. But I'm bit worried regrading - what exactly I need to bundle into that zip file with self executable JAR so requirements must be met to be able to run my JavaFX application in following conditions?
    conditions are : -
    1. If user has x86 MAC OSX.
    2. If java is already installed on user's system. And he would not like to download the "Self-Contained Application Packages" from our download page.
    3. Big download size.
So what among the following two options suits if user have x86 MAC OSX or if he has already installed java on his system or he would not like to download "Self-Contained Application Packages" from download page due to big download size?
    Option are -
    1. APP ( without inbuilt copy of JRE)
    2. Or only a self executable jar.
I am not sure that Mac OS X 10.7.3 (Lion) or later version can run on x86 system. So in case of #1 option the user may have trouble if he is using x86 system. Then he may need to change info plist file and replace the JavaAplicationStub.
In case of #2 option I think is better as the user need to download the JRE only and the JAR should run using "java -jar" command.
Please suggest which option is better in case if JavaFX application can run on x86 bit MAC OS X?

JavaFX will run on only x64 bit MAC OSX?Yes. There is no 32 bit JavaFX 2.x+ build for OS X.

  • Is it possible to sync an iPhone to one mac for music only and another mac for everything else? What about shared iPhoto?

I'm trying to figure out the best way to manage my iphone and that of my wife.
Our set up is that we share music that is on my imac under my apple store id.  We also like to have all of our photos in iphoto on that imac.
She has her own macbook and I'd like to use icloud to sink her personal bookmarks, calendar and other stuff.
I've thought about seeing if I could set her phone up to sync with icloud as appropriate, turn on wireless sync on her imac for syncing everything but music, then sync that same iphone on the imact but just sync music.
I've tried to point her macbook to my imac itunes library and that doesn't seem to be working very well.
The other wrinkle is that she is taking photos on her iphone that I'd like to show up in our shared iphoto library and photo stream.  Currently we have our individual icloud apple ids so we may sync our own bookmarks and such and we use a separate "store" id for music and apps and such.  I'm not sure I see a way for me to merge iphotos into a shared library/stream?
    1.  Any thoughts on the best way to manage two iphones, each with their own computer, but a shared music library?
    2. Any thoughts on the best way to merge iphoto?
I've been experimenting with setups and I have a feeling folks with more experience have probably worked this out better than the way I'm thinking of doing.
    Thanks.

WINE is possibly an option, but may not work with all Windows applications.

  • Is it possible to run a java program without using the command prompt?

    Hi,
I was wondering whether it is possible to run a Java program (not an applet) without using a command line in the command prompt?
Basically I want to run a program that will be continually running in the background and hence I don't want to have a command prompt screen loaded up as well - I just want the program to be running in the task bar.
I know how to run the program in the task bar - but I still need to launch the program from the command prompt - is there anyway I can get a program running without having to start it from the command prompt?
    Cheers

Or create a desktop shortcut (in Windows) or an application launcher ( in Linux GUI).

  • Run a java program by double-click any desktop filetype

    hi guys,
i need ur help!!!!!!! i'm tryin to code a program, where i double click on any file type and my coded java program should start running. my coded program should check for th particular in network,if the particular application is not in harddisk......

File associations are platform specific. For example on windows they are setup through the registry. On linux I can use Konqueror and it has its way of setting these up or I could use something else. Probably the easiest way is to write your own file explorer that does this.

  • Any way possible to break the 3GB barrier without buying a new MBP?

I've seen several posts here and saw reference to Video memory addressing hardware space that conflicts with limits of 3GB RAM but was curious whether anyone has been able to get more RAM in a MBP2.2 2.33GHz model. I just really need the horse power and can't wait until refresh next year.
    Thanks

Thanks Joey, I knew there was a limitation but wasn't sure whether anyone had found a way to bypass it. What I mean by refresh, I've got a company refresh coming in May next year but the added RAM would be a big help in the meantime. I run Fusion on top of Mac for certain applications, in particular I've got some very large Excel 2007 spreadsheets that just can't be handled by Excel in Office 2008. I've tried all sorts of various combination's of tools, apps, VM configs and it all boils down to performance challenges. In order to run Excel proficiently, I need to allocate 1GB RAM min but that totally eats up my ability to also run Keynote, Pages, other native Mac apps effectively. 3GB RAM is optimal so long as I don't run anything in the Windows world but when I get real busy with multiple spreadsheets, presentations, documents, email, etc., my Mac comes to a screeching halt.

  • I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

I would like to run a stock analysis program called Toolkit 6 on my Macbook Pro, but it only works on the Windows platform.  Is there software that allows me to run Windows applications on the Mac?

Yes it's MS Windows! You will need a license of MS Windows (preferable Windows 7) and from there you can decide on the strategy for running Windows on your iMac. You can use Boot Camp (you already have this) or you use virtualization software such as Parallels or Fusion. For your situation I'd recommend virtualization software. However for only one program I'd do some due diligence to see if there is a OS X version. You can start with the App store or simply use Google to search.

There is none. Whatever you do to get rid of the older versions will inevitably do damage to shared components and other stuff of the new versions as well. That's just how it is with this approach... Uninstall the older versions, run the cleaner tool then reinstall CC 2014.

  • How to run Windows-only applications on Macs?

Is there a way to do this without having to purchase huge software programs (like Parallels, etc.)? I am only wanting to run 1 Windows-only application, not install the entire Windows-theme onto my laptop. Thanks for the help!

    Eric,
there is Windows emulation software called Wine that can run many (but by no means all) Windows programs without needing a Windows installation. It is gratis, but on OS X you need to compile Wine yourself; they do not have precompiled downloadable disk images for OS X. However, a company called CodeWeavers does offer a precompiled version of Wine called CrossOver Mac for OS X, but it costs $59.95. They do have a gratis 14-day trial version, so you could download that to see if your lone Windows application would work well under OS X with it.
