Runaway RAM Usage leading to Kernel Panic using FilmConvert Plugin (updated x3)

Hello, filed a bug report on this but cuious if anyone sees it.
Late 2012 27 iMac, top line i7 with 680MX, 32 GB RAM.
Promise R6 TB RAID.
Trying to render out a 15 min edit from Premiere that has each clip with 3 filters on it - MB Looks, MB Colorista, Filmconvert.
Since 7.01, every time I render previews or encode out, RAM use skyrockets way past the 25GB I allocated. I get up to a 50GB swap file in fact before the computer just craps out and I can't finish my render. (Nothing past 15 min anyway, I can do under that length ok.) As of this moment PPro Headless in Activity Monior has allocated 40GB and climbing....
Any ideas?  Kind of a major issue. Does not happen on CS6 with same filters and similar project.
PS - The same issue is happening with the same project on my Macbook Pro 15" retina with 16GB of RAM. It's creating a huge swap file. On the iMac with Fusion drive I can't complete the render at all due to the system SSD filling up on the Fusion drive. It eventually crashes and reboots. I can complete the render on the laptop, but it ends up with a 50+ GB swap file.
UPDATE 1:
I had my suspicions a Plugin I am using, the excellent (but now unusable for over 10 min projects) plugin "FilmConvert" was causing the issue on all my Macs.
To prove it's the plugin, I removed duplicated my main 15 min sequence, removed the FilmConvert plugin from all clips while keeping the two Magic Bullet effects on. So, all filters (MB Looks, MB Colorista II) BUT filmConvert.
Result?
RAM usage stays where it should be (at the limit set in Premiere Pro CC) and there is zero swap file usage. Same project, same filters, same everything except FilmConvert was removed on this duplicate timeline.
As it stands, the plugin is unusable for longer projects.  I'm still curious if anyone else has seen this, or if Adobe has any input.
UPDATE 2: I developed a workaround workflow and the vendor wrote back and thinks it's a bug in PPro CC, but will try to see if they can't code around it:
"We have had one other very recent report of this type of behaviour, but when rendering through the CC version
of Adobe Media Encoder or Premiere (but not After Effects). I believe the issue is with Media Encoder / Premiere,
although it's probably preventable within our plugin. The problem I believe is that Premiere and Media Encoder
create many instances of the plugin during a  render, one instance per frame, and it seems in CC those instances
do not get cleaned up until after the render finishes.
As each plugin instance is expecting to be called many times, to render multiple frames, it keeps a certain amount
of memory allocated, in order to gain a speed advantage."
I am using the render previews workflow to deal with it for now. I set my sequence to my master codec (in this case ProRes 422 HQ, with maximum quality checked). Then I preview chunks of the timeline setting in/out, render. Then I quit the program, which frees up the RAM and the need for the swap file, which starts reducing itself. Then I run PPro again, and preview another chunk, and repeat the process until done.
To export final piece, I just export using previews matching the sequence (which is ProRes 422 HQ) and it is a straight copy at that point and quick. This is a useful workflow if you are making tons of minor edits for a client anyway, as it vastly speeds up re-renders of the final file.  No loss in quality as the previews are the same as my final encode would be anyway.
Still, it would be nice if Adobe/FilmConvert or both could fix this bug so I can just queue up a whole sequence and walk away without chunking it up if I need to.
Update 3: If only Adobe could move so fast. Rubber Monkey sent me a new version to test today, and it fixed the problem. Amazing customer service!! It has not been released yet but I suspect it will be at some point. Case closed.

Glad I'm not the only one. My temporary solution was to download the kernel and wl package from December 2012 found http://repo-ck.com/PKG_source/ and then mkpkg and install it. It'll work as an alternative for now, without messing up the primary kernel setup.

I am having the Kernel Panic when I am updating the software I tried 3 times every time the Kernel Panic thing appears, how can I resolve that?

  • I have used the plugin updater to update most of my plugins, but i don't want to update one of them- is there a way to get the plug in manager to stop asking me to?

i have used the plugin updater to update most of my plugins but i have one that i do not wish to update. is there a way to stop getting the plugin manager to pop up every time i open up firefox? i updated all other plugins except adobe reader- which i have adobe acrobat and wish to use that instead but when inside firefox it always uses reader as default so i just chose not to install the update. can i disable the update manager?

    That is stealing.

  • Time Machine Restore Leads to Kernel Panic and Time Machine Inaccuracies

Last night I had to do a full restore from time machine because I had disturbed system files. So I boot in the OSX disk and run time machine from utilities to a time before I messed things up. After it finishes I restart as the screen prompts me to do and I get in a kernel panic restart cycle.
So I reinstall snow leopard from the disk, and for some reason instead of being formatted everything appears as it did at the beginning of summer (I've had Snow Leopard since it came out). So I boot in the disk and try a time machine full restore to a different backup, and after it completes I again get into the kernel panic restart cycle.
So I reinstall snow leopard to the same effect, thinking I'll just go into time machine (star wars interface) and manually update all the important files, but even though I have regular updates that run all the way to may, they are inaccurate. For instance: my downloads folder remains identical in all of them, even though it is altered almost daily, also my documents don't change: for instance an essay I'm working on doesn't contain changes which I made and through all of the time machine backups has not been modified since may 10th (quite wrong). But oddly, programs which I had installed recently remain on the computer.
Disk Utility and Disk Warrior both report my internal hard drive and my external hard drive (where the time machine backups are stored in their own partition) are intact.
All I want is data restoration, and none of my methods have worked.... if there is a workaround to my time machine kernel panic issue and time machine would give an accurate restoration then I would do this... hopefully some of you have ideas... Thanks.
    Running:
    Macbook 2.13 Ghz
    2 gb ram
was running the most recent edition of Snow Leopard, after restore I'm running the original OSX 10.6

You might try the following to repair permissions in your Home folder. Disk Utility does not repair permissions in the Home folder.
    To fix Home folder permissions
Open the Terminal application in the Utilities folder. At the command line prompt enter or paste the following command line:
    sudo chown -R `id -un`:`id -gn` ~
Press RETURN. You will be prompted to enter your admin password which will not be echoed.

iPhoto 11 is causing Kernel Panic in my iMac. As far I understand it is not a hardware issue, because the iMac is very very stable with any other softwares.

  • Mountain lion kernel panic using wifi

I have a very repeatable kernel panic running the latest mountain lion build 10.8.1 (occured in 10.8.0 as well, but I couldn't trace it to a certain behavior yet)
    - enable Wifi, connects to home network (close, excellent connection)
    - start iTunes (latest), run music over Airplay (doesn't run well at all, i.e. stops after the 0.5s of music)
    - open airport utility => kernel panic, always a division error, always called by the atheros driver
    anyone experiencing a similar issue?
if I disable WiFi and do the same over ethernet -> no problem.
here the panic report excerpt .... reported to apple as well.
    thanks

You have far too many third-party system modifications. There's no way that setup is going to be stable.
Back up all data to at least two different storage devices, if you haven't already done so. The backups can be made with Time Machine or with a mirroring tool such as Carbon Copy Cloner. Preferably both. You must be certain that you can restore everything to the state it's in now.
Boot into Recovery (command-R at startup), and reinstall OS X. Test. If the problem is gone, you're done.
Note: You need an always-on Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection to the Internet to use Recovery. It won’t work with USB or PPPoE modems, or with networks that require any kind of authentication other than a WPA or WPA2 Personal password.
If the problem persists, boot into Recovery again, launch Disk Utility, and erase the startup volume with the default options. This operation will destroy all data on the volume, so you had be better be sure of your backups. Quit Disk Utility and install the OS again. When you reboot, you'll be prompted to go through the initial setup process. That’s when you import the data from one of your backups. For details of how this works, see here:
    Using Setup Assistant
Import only "Users" and "Settings" – not "Applications" or "Other files." Don't import the Guest account, if it was enabled on the old system. Test. If the problem is still there, you have a hardware fault. Take the machine to an Apple Store for diagnosis.
If the problem is resolved, reinstall your third-party software cautiously. Self-contained applications that install into the Applications folder by drag-and-drop or download from the App Store are safe. Anything that comes packaged as an installer or that prompts for an administrator password is suspect, and you must test thoroughly after reinstalling each such item to make sure you haven't restored the problem.

  • Extreme ram usage leading to slow browsing experience.

    Hello
I have been using firefox for a long time. this problem has persisted but it was not much of a problem then as it is now. The problem is as follows:
I have two windows open. one window has 30 tabs open and the other has 12 tabs open. The problem is that even if i do not use any of those windows, you can observe the ram usage, in task manager, it is consistently increasing. When this usage reaches 2800mbs, the browser starts to get slow and as it reaches 3200mbs, the browser is literally freezing for like 20 seconds by saying "Not responding" and then coming back to life and then after a few page change again it happens. this is really annoying.
In order to solve this issue i have to force close the browser and reopen it and restore the previous session to get my pages back and make them work at a decent speed.
My friends who use google chrome, they have even more tabs open and their browsing experience is quite smooth. I personally like firefox more as i am used to it and also its add ons are good, but this problem is really annoying.
Just to let you know if you start to think that my laptop cannot handle this load
    My laptop specs are:
    Core i7 2670qm
    13gb ddr3 ram
    1tb hdd
    nvidia gtx560m 2gb
Kindly look into this matter and let me know if there is a fix to this issue.
Hope to hear from you soon.
    Thank You

    Did you check your extensions?
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window

  • [SOLVED]s2ram leads to kernel panic

Hey guys, i recently experienced a problem when suspending using
    # s2ram
, my laptop screen goes blank and the CAPSLOCK starts blinking (I assume it's a kernel panic). here's a log of my recent upgrade http://paste.pocoo.org/show/450909/
    And my pm-suspend.log is http://paste.pocoo.org/show/450910/
    Thanks in advance.
Wow, turns out virtualbox modules were the issue. Refer to these 2 posts if you experience the same thing
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122957
    https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=122956
At the moment i shall disable these modules until a fix is submitted maybe on the next upgrade.

    Hello!
Just out of curiosity, how much free drive space does your PBook have? Open a Finder window, the info is displayed at the bottom. Anything less than 15% and an installer freezes or won't complete the installation.
You might want to check your drive for errors also. Run Disk Utility from your Tiger disk and click Verify. If there are errors, click Repair.
Click the Apple logo top left in your Menu, then click Software Updates. Make sure you system software is up to date.

  • Frequent Kernel Panics (Using Mavericks)

I am experiencing frequent kernel panics after installing Mavericks and can't find the reason why.
It happens randomly and it is not tied to any application in particular.
One day it can happen during backup or when using mail, or safari, etc.
I am attaching the console report of the last crash and this time it happened when using tweebot.
I have a macbook pro from 2011 that the only custom thing it has is a Crucial M4 512 GB SSD.
    Any help would be welcome.

  • Kernel Panic using modem on Intel iMac

Received the new iMac two days ago and all seems well under Rosetta, including the AOL client, which Walt Mossberg reported would not work. I got the external USB modem as a backup if/when my cable service dies. Every time I try to dial out I get a kernel panic as soon as I click connect. I sent the problem logs into Apple support with note upon restart. Anyone else try this and have a problem?

  • Upgrade leads to kernel panic

Hey I was doing a system upgrade that failed with a hang and an error about not being able to execute /sbin/mingetty which I don't remember exactly. When I rebooted I got
EXT4-fs (sda3): mounted filesystem with ordered data mode. Opts: (null)
Not activating Mandatory Access Control now since /sbin/tomoyo-init doesn't exist.
switch_root: can't execute '/sbin/init': No such file or directory
Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to kill init!
    Pid: 1, comm: switch_root Not tainted 2.6.36-ARCH #1
    Call Trace:
I booted up with a rescue CD and pacman.log ends with Running 'pacman -Syu'; synchronizing package lists; starting full system upgrade; upgraded linux-api-headers (2.6.36.2-1 -> 2.6.37-1)
That's it. When I try to chroot back into my regular setup according to the instructions at https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Chroot, chroot complains that /bin/bash doesn't exist.
Any ideas on where to go next to try and fix my borked upgrade?
    Patrick

Well I can't get the system to boot but I took your advice and chroot'd in and ran pacman -Su. It finished and seemed to be happy. When I try and reboot now I get a kernel panic "No init found". I checked grub's menu.lst and found that the uuid was now wrong. I ran mkinitcpio -p kernel26 and put the correct uuids in grub/menu.lst. That didn't change anything so I added a init=/sbin/init to the kernel line in grub/menu.lst but now it just complains that it can't execute init or /sbin/init. Anyone have a clue of what to try next?
    Patrick

  • Leopard 10.5.6, Kernel Panic after Airport Client Update 2009-001

    Hi Mac users,
Actually I'm working for an international school and we have a lot of students with Mac computers. Since 2 weeks now, all Mac crashed (Kernel Panic) several times per day. This issue seems arrived just after the Airport Client Update 2009-001.
As we didn't perform any change on our wireless infrastructure, we think it's an Airport issue.
Here a sample of Kernel Panic:

What can we do to solve this ? Can we find a solution without saying to the students "+please reinstall with the archive option but avoid the Airport Client Update 2009-001+" ? We tried to downgrade the wireless kernel extension to the previous version, without success.
Thanks in advance for your help and your advices.

    "My issues have mostly disappeared"
Do you still have issues?. I just spent all Sunday and half morning until I found it was paragon. Not only It panicked every time I logged in, also screwed my time capsule disk (couldn't restore from it). With so many restarts I had a really corrupted RAID disk so since this is my second full reinstall with no time machine, I don't want to get even close to Paragon unless it runs flawless.
I hope this may help: My solution now is Parallels over a NTFS bootcamp partition. I have a full NTFS disk which I use to bootcamp, since parallels allows you run over it instead of a virtual disk NTFS on HFS+. You can read and write back and forth.

  • Kernel panics since last security update

Since installing the last security update I am getting frequent kernel panics and crashes.
Usually related to accessing remote samba shares while running Parallels VMs
    Anyone experience the same thing?
Using Leopard 10.5.5 with the latest updates. I have ran the hardware check and everything is fine, this only started after the last security update.
2 for 1 question: Does anyone know how to uninstall the latest security fix??

Yes, wipe the system and re-install.
Or, may be able to repair this with the 10.5.5 Combo Update This is a fuller install, as opposed to an incremental "delta" update so it should overwrite any files that are damaged or missing. It does not matter if you have applied it before.
Remember to Verify Disk before update and repair permissions after update from /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility.

  • Kernel Panics with new security update

Anyone else having this problem? Downloaded the new security update, installed, restarted (took a very long time to restart) the computer rebooted itself and then began to kernel panic every time I booted it. Works fine if I boot into windows so seems to be something the new software update broke. Anyone else having similar issues?

Well I am having a weird problem. This is my first post so I am not sure if I need to make a new post, but here goes.
I installed the Security Update 2007-005 (PowerPC) on May 31 on my MacBook Pro. I can't be certain but I think since I installed it I have a spinning ball and can't do much of anything. Like something is bogging it down. It will eventually stop but will start again the minute I do anything... something is just not right. I have tried all troubleshooting techniques but found it is not possible to even try them.
Safe Boot... It automatically decides to shut down before it gets to the safe boot screen.
Disk Utility... Restarting off the disk, yes, but when I run the program I get "could not unmount disk"
Trying to run fsck -y, in single user mode (command s)... I get "Volume is journaled. No checking performed. Use the -f option to force checking.
I have no idea what to do next. I guess I will try to reinstall my system off my disks. Does anyone have any ideas... please help this is taking up so much time.
