Runbook Activity stuck In Progress

Greetings everyone,
I am currently fighting with a new Orchestrator 2012 R2 install with Service Manager 2012 R2.  Here is the current setup:
SCSM 2012 - Primary management servers with 3 secondary servers.  One of the secondaries is set just for Orchestrator
Orchestrator 2012:  3 Separate servers - Management Server, Runbook Server, and Web Server
The runbook books in question, run perfectly well from the Runbook Designer.  I created the runbook templates, applied to either a SR or IR template, and have the automate checkbox checked.  When I create the ticket through the SSP, the Runbook
Activity ticket says its in progress.  When I open up the associated RB workitem, it shows in the log that it has Successfully invoked the Runbook.  The problem is, the runbook does not start.
If I check the Orchestration Console and drill down to the runbook.  I can see the start time in there.  If I check the logs from the designer console, there is no reference to starting.
I verified the runbook is checked in.  Also, since i haven't found a good document on rights, I have the SCSM Workflow account, SCSM Service Account, Orch. Service Account, and connector account in the Orchestrator and SCSM Admin group.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks

Thank you Anders.  Stefan and your recommendations were spot on with the event log in the designer.  I didn't realize it, but my error selector was off on it.  There were multiple errors in there, all flagged when I attempted to launch the
runbooks.  The error was:
Runbook 'RUNBOOK NAME' stopped: some of the Extensions are missing.
Which upon further research was the integration pack was missing from the runbook server.  When I stood this up in my lab, I had all pieces installed on one box and I didn't realize I skipped the RB server with the integration packs.
Thank you both so much.

  • Invoke Runbook Activity doesn't finish

    Hello,
I have a Problem with the Invoke Runbook Activity, if I just test the Child Runbook manually it works fine but if I want to start it via the Parent Runbook it gets stucks and never finishes.
    Parten Runbook:
    Child Runbook:
The Child Runbook is checked in, the Parameters are correct. The Parent Runbook is not checked in because of the Runbook Tester.
If I run my Parent Runbook everything works fine and the Invoke Runbook Activity starts but then nothing happens anymore, I waited for 30min and still nothing happen (if I test the Child Runbook it only takes 2-3 Minutes). If I stop the Runbook Tester the
    Child Runbook is still running.
Has somebody an Idea where the Issue could be?

    Hello,
does it work if the first Runbook is also checked in?
There are differences executing a Runbook in Runbook Tester (http://www.sc-orchestrator.eu/index.php/scoblog/99-functionality-differences-executing-a-runbook-with-runbook-tester)
but I tested and can not reproduce  this behavior you described above here in SP1 or R2 version.
Does it work if you check in the first (Parent Runbook)? If there is the same problem are there any hints in tab "Events"?
Maybe maximum Runbook limit is reached (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh420378.aspx) or Orchestration Runbook Service is not running ...

  • How do I use a runbook Activity on an Incident and Runbook Initialize Data activity to sync and get the GUid from the Incident?

I currently have a runbook running every hour to attach Incidents Templates to Problems. I would like to just add a runbook activity to the Incident Template to activate the runbook, and only link that Incident to the problem it needs to be attached to.
I don't know how to set-up my Initialize Data activity in my runbook to load the calling Incidents GUID though.
I'm very new to Orchestrator, so please be detailed in your directions.
The way my runbook works now is, I make my incident templates have the PR # they are for in the Alt Contact Block. My runbook searched for that, and then loads the PR# it has there and creates the relationship between the two, and then deletes that PR# so
it doesnt hit on the next search.
I would like my activity that calls the runbook to pass the Incident GUID to the runbook, so my runbook only has to query the PR# included in the incident, and create the relationship that way.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

    This might help:
Working With Relationships in the SCSM Orchestrator Integration Pack
Basically, you'll receive the ID of the runbook automation activity from Service Manager, which you can then use with the Get Object and Get Relationship to get the runbook activity object, then get the incident object related to it. I realize this is confusing,
but there should be more info out there to search on as well. Hope that helps.

  • Invoke Runbook Activity - Performance

    Hello,
Some of our orchestrator runbooks are calling a lot of subrunbooks and waits for their completion. The problem is that every “Invoke
Runbook Activity” with “Wait for completion” flag set takes at least 5 seconds to complete. Even if the called runbook does nothing.
Is there any way to increase the performance of the “Invoke Runbook Actity”?

    Hi,
this is by design because "Invoke Runbook" Activity triggers the other Runbook over Orchestrator Database.

  • Content Status Stuck "In Progress"

I had this error before, and installing the hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2828900/en-us fixed the issue. However, last week the issue returned. At the time, nothing
had changed. I have since installed CU4, then CU5. These servers are updated monthly, but had not yet updated when this began.
When viewing the Content Status, the Status is “Waiting for Content.” However, in the Asset Message Summary, the description is “Distribution Manager successfully processed package…”
OSD task sequences are now not able to complete due to the Configuration Manager Client Package being in the same state (due to the CU5 client update).
Deployments such as Programs and Updates are completing successfully.
Interestingly, I was able to distribute NEW content (SP1 CU5 - x64 client update) to a Distribution Point Group (which includes 4 of 13 DP’s). So maybe this issues only applies
    to REDISTRIBUTING content.
PkgXferMgr.log does not show anything unusual
Distmgr.log shows a recurring attempt to update a package which was removed and subsequently redistributed for testing purposes, but other entries appear to process normally.

Thanks Torsten. I've read many of your successful replies over the years, and now you're answering one of my questions! Actually, the first question since I've usually found the answer.
Yes, I have redistributed the packages that are giving the inaccurate status messages.
To get a current log, I redistributed the configmgr client (KS100002). The description now reads "Distribution Manager created snapshot for content Configuration Manager Client Package successfully." However, the Content Status is still "Waiting for
    Content - In Progress."

  • Service Requests stuck In Progress

I have about 20-30 service requests that are stuck in the In Progress state. The activities on the Service Request have been completed.
I have tried restarting the services below and deleted the HealthServiceStore.edb file in the folder C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012 R2\Service Manager\Health Service State\Health Service Store
    Microsoft Monitoring Agent
    System Center Data Access Service
    System Center Management Configuration
I have everything to my knowledge short of rebooting the server. Is there anything else I can try?

I wrote a blogpost on how to detect stuck SR using a script, and a script that will kickstart it again (some requests have activities that are stuck in pending which is even worse). Also finds the ones with all completed activities but SR is still active.

    @Thomas
Didn't know you could use -Value "Closed" as this is an enumeration. Anyways, if you wan't to be language-independent you can use (free from memory - not tested)
    $ClosedStatus = Get-SCSMEnumeration ServiceRequestStatusEnum.Closed # Something like this :D
    $SR | Set-SCSMObject -Propertyhashtable @{Status = $ClosedStatus}

Issue 2: I'm trying to deploy a couple of Packages/Applications using SCCM 2012 R2 running on Win2K8 R2 with no luck, knowing that I could install the packages
on a test VM “in the DataCenter site”, but when trying to deploy the packages to production PC “in the Office Site”,
the status is packages deployment compliance stuck at 0%
    Infrastructure:
3 SCCM servers: CAS, PRI & SEC. Both CAS and PRI are in the DataCenter site, and SEC is in the Office site. The office site has several IP subnets.
Boundaries are configured through Forest Discovery “IP Ranges and AD Sites” since that the AD site should contain all the IP subnets that the AD site contains, Boundaries groups are also configured and a site reference
server is configured for each group respectively.
A OU based Collection has been configured that contains 13 PC "the collection contains the PCs that the packages should be installed.
Packages/Applications are configured correctly since that I could successfully deploy the packages to the test VM which is on the same subnet as the CAS and the PRI servers "the DataCenter subnet". The issue
is that I can't deploy the packages to production PCs in the Office subnet!
Firewall rules are configured and applied via GP, and I even turned Windows Firewall off, and still nothing! I tried to manually initiate Computer Policy download via the SCCM GUI and via a script, still no luck!
I tried configuring IP Subnet Boundaries, still no luck!!

    Please help…

    Update:
I fixed the issue with the default XXX00002 package - "Configuration Manager Client Package", it will not deploy to the Secondary Site DP. I did that through "Update Distribution Points" option, and after a while the status was 100%.
However; the second issue is still unsolved...

  • Fusion Absence Status stuck 'In Progress'

    Hi !
I'm trying to complete a full cycle of recording an absence.
I've  created the accrual plan, the absence type  and enrolled employees in accrual plan.
At  employee level I added an absence ( of the type created before ) and is stuck in status 'In progress'.
In the Absence Type, section 'Display features'  I selected the options as below.
    My questions:
    1. Where and how these  Display Features can be used ?  for 'Approval Processing' Employee level 'Enabled' does it mean that the Employee can select the Approver ?
    2. What is the  maening of 'In progress' status ?
    regards,

  • Aborting an instance while having an active truncate in progress

I was wondering if any one could suggest the possible effects of issuing an shutdown abort against a version 7.3.4 whilst a truncate of an indexed table is in progress? I would imagine that this is not advisable to do or good practice but I would be interested in hearing any feed back with your thoughts on this issue. What are the potentials for corruption with in the base table or its associated indexes. Would it be possible for an index block rowid to be corrupt to the extent that it is pointing to a block that is actually pointing to free space and if so what potential problems could arise if once this index block is accessed?
Any feed back would be appreciated.

    Hi Mark,
Thanks for your reply. I tried setting up Global Catalog port. I get the following error:

Do you have any idea? Do you think the AD account ID which I am using as Plumtree Active Directory User's Authentication Name need to be member of that domain?

  • Workflow Timer Job Is Stuck( 0% Progress and Running Continuously )

We are facing strange issue in sandbox. Workflow timer job in central admin (CA) is getting stuck.workflow time interval is 2 minutes.
It supposes to run for every two minutes. But it stuck after the start. It is not resume (or) complete the job. It is showing 0% progress and running status.
We need to restart the SharePoint2010 Timer Service to restart the timer job.
When we restart the “SharePoint 2010 Timer”, Workflow timer job gets re started. But again it is stuck.
So whenever we need to run workflows I need to restart the “SharePoint 2010 Timer” service.
I have re created my site collection and delete the local list (which has workflow association).
But Workflow timer job in CA not resumed (or) completed.
Are there any options to reset the workflow timer job? Is there any way to clear state of workflow timer job?

i have got same problem in my SharePoint Server
for  Microsoft SharePoint Foundation Usage Data Import,
    Config Refresh
    workflow
so i have read most of notes.
Clearing the cache is the best resolving part for this.
To resolve this issue, clear the file system cache on all servers in the server farm on which the Windows SharePoint Services Timer service is running. To do this, follow these steps:
    Stop the
Timer service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
Right-click SharePoint 2010 Timer services, and then clicks Stop.
    Close the Services console.
    Navigate to the directory:C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\SharePoint\Config
    \GUID.
    Backup the GUID folder
Back up the Cache.ini file. (Make a copy of it. DO NOT DELETE THIS FILE, Only the XML files in the next step)
Delete all the XML configuration files in the GUID folder (DO NOTE DELETE
THE FOLDER). Do this so that you can verify that the GUID folders content is replaced by new XML configuration files when the cache is rebuilt.  Note when you empty the configuration cache in the GUID folder; make sure that you do NOT delete
the GUID folder and the Cache.ini file that is located in the GUID folder.
    Double-click the Cache.ini file.
On the Edit menu, click Select All.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
Type 1, and then click Save on the File menu. (Basically when you are done, the only text in the config.ini
file should be the number 1)
On the File menu, click Exit.
Start the Timer service. To do this, follow these steps:
Click Start, point to Administrative Tools, and then click Services.
    Right-click SharePoint 2010
    Timer, and then click Start.
    Close the Services console.
Note The file system cache is re-created after you perform this procedure. Make sure that you perform this procedure on all servers in the server farm.
Make sure that the Cache.ini file in the GUID folder now contains its previous value. For example, make sure that the value of the Cache.ini file is not
    1.
Check in the GUID folder to make sure that the xml files are repopulating. This may take a bit of time.

  • Workflow activity stuck at Custom Nodes and is in Active Status

    Hi Team,
We have one issue with our Custom Order Management--> Order  Booking workflow. Can you please help us.
    Issue:
Our Workflow Activities are in the following sequence.
    Start --> Activity A ---> Activity B --> Activity C --> End
Code at Activities A, B, C involves Third part tool Integrations which involves business events, invoking Https Urls with Req/Res Xmls
Ideally whenever an issue encounters at any one of these nodes, either workflow should go back or should proceed further.
But in our case, process gets stuck at some Node (either A, B or C) with Activity status as ACTIVE. Upon checking Workflow diagram, seems there is no 'Y' or 'N' signal from any one of the above activities, once processes at respective Activity's gets completed.
Can you please review this issue and suggest if anything could be checked.
    1) We came across some hint in google and found that missing COMMIT statement could be the issue.
But we checked our custom code and there is no issue with COMMIT.
    2) We have even checked the FINAL RETURN status at each of the Activity's by adding debug messages and we could see that the return value is appropriate but not sure what is causing this
         issue.
Upon retrying the Activity from Workflow Administrator resp, the same activity (that is stuck before) is getting Completed Normally.
Also this is an intermittent issue and not sure, if this is happening inconsistently due to some environment params or some load related.
Request you to review the problem and suggest if anything needs to be checked.
    Thank you,
    Lokesh G

    Hi Team,
Request you to please check the issue and provide your suggestions.
    Your help is much appreciated.

  • Yosemite Restart Stuck At Progress Bar

Okay so I installed Yosemite yesterday, and it was working well until my mac suddenly froze in black screen, so I had to force shut down by pressing the power button for 10 seconds.I restarted my mac, and now it's stuck on the booting screen (apple logo and a progress bar), I tried force restarting multiple times, but the progress bar always gets stuck at 50%. Please help!

Try rebooting into safe mode http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1564?viewlocale=en_US
Verify disk and file permissions using Disk Utility and then reboot normally.
