Running 8.1 64 bit and sql server 5 32bit keeps installing on my brand new HP
My old laptop has sql server 5 32bit on it and I just bought a HP Pavilion 500-200t. As soon as I connect to the internet, the sql 5 comes back on my 64bit computer and makes it very slow. I want to uninstall the 5 because I can't update it
to run 64bit. Any help with this would be greatly helpful

Hi All,
Here the linked server is created between sql server 2012 64 bit and sql server 2005 32 bit. I am getting the below error when i try to access linked server from third server. I have created linked from Instance 1 to Instance 2. When i access it from
instance 3 i am getting the below error. SPN setting has been done between these 2 servers. Also the option 'Trust the delegate' is enabled for the both the service account.

According to your description, we need to verify if you install
Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) and
correct the manifest file. The manifest file is readable (although empty), but we cannot edit it (even if you are an administrator). Only SYSTEM has access to the file. So to be able to edit it, you must first take ownership of
it and grant ACLs. After saving the file, then run the setup again.

We are a small office (8 users) with a new server on the way. We are running Server 2003 and CRM 4.0 and will upgrade to Server 2012 Essentials R2. I would like to run this as a VM and integrate Azure's cloud backup. The problem --and I'd
like to be wrong about this -- is there is no included SQL server with Essentials 2012. Our old server has SQL server 2005 which I believe was included. Our database is only 1.6GB so we could use the free version of SQL Server 2014, but it is limited
to one CPU. Our new server is dual CPU, 8 total cores. My thought is to use P2V and make a virtual machine from my current 2003 server, then run that inside the Hyper-V environment along with 2012 Essentials.
So I have two questions? Does the Essentials (or Hyper-V) licensing permit me to run any more VMs than the single instance of 2012 Essentials? And secondly, will the primary 2012 Essentials installation acting as the Hyper-V administrator be
able to use Azure to back up both virtual machines?
If I am acting on any incorrect assumptions please correct me.I suggest that you follow your own suggestion on what to believe from posts. Read the EULA on Essentials on your own. And talk to a trained Microsoft licensing specialist. Some of your assumptions are not valid.
"I have purchased Server Essentials 2012 R2, which allows for one instance to implement the hypervisor and one instance of a virtual machine."
From the data sheet describing Server Essentials is this statement - "
With Windows Server 2012 R2 Essentials, the product licensing terms have been expanded to enable you to run one operating system instance on the physical server in order to run Hyper-V, plus a second instance on that server in order to run Essentials as
a virtual machine.
Therefore, the only VM you can legally run under Essentials is another copy of Essentials.
"Furthermore it would be foolish for Microsoft to deny me additional virtual machines under that scenario since I can install Hyper-V Server 2012 R2 for free and use Essentials to manage it."
FALSE. Actually, virtualization rights are part of the Server operating system license. Since the license is written by Microsoft, they can include whatever limits they deem appropriate. In fact, when looking at Standard and Datacenter
Editions of Windows Server, the ONLY difference between the two are the virtualization rights included with the operating system. Your assumption that you can run it for 'free' under Hyper-V Server is incorrect. True, Hyper-V server is
a no-cost download from Microsoft, but it does not include any operating system licenses. Those must be purchased separately. Licenses are assigned to physical machines, not to virtual machines. So it would be possible to use your 2003 license
on a Hyper-V Server instance, but only if it is a non-OEM license. OEM licenses are non-transferrable from the hardware with which they were sold.
"It would also be foolish because I could virtualize everything under VMWare's ESXi --for free--"
FALSE. Same reason as given above.
Lastly, be forewarned about P2V of a Windows Server 2003 machine. If you spend any time reading this forum, you will find lots of horror stories about people having less than successful attempts at P2V'ing WS2003. The recommendation is to build
a 2003 VM from scratch to avoid the many pitfalls, assuming you do not have an OEM license. Of course, even then you are still putting a business critical system on an operating system that is dropping support come July of next year, followed shortly
thereafter by no support on SQL 2005. Bottom line is that you would most likely be better served by trying to upgrade your application to a version that runs on the current release of Windows Server.

JDBC Connection between Unix and SQL Server 2000
I have SQL Server 2000 installed in a pc as a data server and SQL Server 2000 JDBC Drive installed in a Unix machine. Both machines are connected and can ping each other. After setting up the environment data, I ran a test code to test the connection and got exceptions. ( I did the same process between a pc and the data server, it works well.)
Attached are the test code and error message. Hope someone can help me.

You may need to change the port number to the one that the SQL server is using.

Verify that SQL Server Reporting Services is installed properly and that it is running.
I am trying to install DPM 2010 on Windows 2008 R2. Running through installation and the server that I'm installing DPM to will also host the SQL instance and Reporting instance. Pretty much choosing all the defaults.
Installation gets to reporting portion and fails. It says that I need to verify that Reporting Services is running. The exact error is:
Data Protection Manager installation has failed. To return the server to its original state, you must uninstall Data Protection Manager by using Add or Remove Programs in Control Panel. This will remove all files and components copied during installation.
For details, click the Error tab.

It is running and working, I can go to the URL and see Reports installed. It grabbed a server certificate which is valid and binds that to 443. I have tried this as well with the certificate removed.

The real problem is the error UnableToConfigureAccount and *** Mojito error was: PasswordTooShort; 0; None
The reason is due to the new password complexity on Windows 2008 which states the following:
Password must meet complexity requirements
This security setting determines whether passwords must meet complexity requirements.
If this policy is enabled, passwords must meet the following minimum requirements:
Not contain the user's account name or parts of the user's full name that exceed two consecutive characters
Be at least six characters in length Contain characters from three of the following four categories:
English uppercase characters (A through Z)
English lowercase characters (a through z)
Base 10 digits (0 through 9)
Non-alphabetic characters (for example, !, $, #, %)
Complexity requirements are enforced when passwords are changed or created.
Default:
Enabled on domain controllers.
Disabled on stand-alone servers.
Note: By default, member computers follow the configuration of their domain controllers.
Please use a more secure password adhering to the above criteria and DPM should install fine.

HSODBC connectivity between ORACLE 10g and SQL Server 2008 R2
Hi,
I'm getting below error when using the DB link between Oracle (10.2.0.2 which is on Sun Sparc) and MS Sql server 2008 R2.
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-28500: connection from ORACLE to a non-Oracle system returned this message:

initTelemetryDB1.ora file under ORACLE_HOME\hs\admin\
HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = TelemetryDB1
HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = OFF
We have created DNS with TelemetryDB1.
I'm getting the above error for DB links between Oracle 10.2 and SQL Server 2008 R2. But the same, when configured for MS SQL server 2000 works fine without any issues.
Please advise me to rectify the error. We've been working for the last couple of weeks.
Regards,
SunilSunil,
You don't need an Oracle ODBC driver.
The way it works is that in the gateway init<sid>.ora file, in your case initTelemetryDB1.ora, the parameter HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO points to a system DSN. This DSN should then be configured to use an ODBC driver to connect to the non-Oracle database. So, in your setup when you want to access the SQL*Server 2008 database then the DSN should use an ODBC driver that can connect to a SQL*Server 2008 database. If you still use the initTelemetryDB1.ora file for the connection then the TelemetryDB1 DSN should be configured to access the SQL*Server 2008 database.
However, there are a couple of problems with your actual setup -
- the configuration you have - 10.2 RDBMS on a Sun machine and HSODBC on Windows - is not supported. HSODBC should only be used from a RDBMS that is in the same ORACLE_HOME as HSODBC.
- 10.2 HSODBC is now desupported and has been replaced by the 11g Database Gateway for ODBC (DG4ODBC) and the configuration you want is supported. That is because unlike HSODBC the DG4ODBC gateway can be installed standalone with a RDBMS being installed.
I recommend that you download and install 11.20.2 DG4ODBC on your Windows machine in a new Oracle_home and access that from the 10.2 RDBMS on Sun - which is a supported configuration. But to do this, you will need to apply either the 10.2.0.4 or 10.2.0.5 patchset to your RDBMS.
There is more information in the following note available on My Oracle Support (MOS) -
Note.1083703.1 Master Note for Oracle Gateway Products
The 11.2.0.2 DG4ODBC can be downloaded from MOS as patch and for the gateways on Windows 32-bit you just need to download -
p10098816_112020_platform_4of6.zip
However, to check the HSODBC ou need to confirm that the DSN used by HSODBC points to a System DSN configured to access SQL*Server 2008.
Have a look at -
Note 109730.1 How to setup generic connectivity (HSODBC) for Windows NT
But remember this is not a supported version or configuration and you should be using Dg4ODBC.

Do we need to change any thing in sqlnet.ora file for heterogeneous connection?
Thanks ,
Manish -
We have SSIS installed on a machine that is not part of a cluster but it is accessible by the cluster.
Our job we have running on the cluster is failing with the following error:
Error: 2014-01-31 09:14:37.52 Code: 0xC000F427 Source: SCR - DP1 Connections
Description: To run a SSIS package outside of SQL Server Data Tools you must install SCR - DP1 Connections of Integration Services or higher. End Error
Any advice or information on how to resolve this would be great.
Many Thanks.Hi NessaBella,
Integration Services service is not a cluster-aware service, and does not support failover from one cluster node to another. Therefore, in a clustered environment, Integration Services should be installed and started as a stand-alone service on each node
in the cluster.
Based on the error message, it seems that SSIS is not installed on the cluster node on which the job was running. Although SSIS is installed on a machine that is not part of the cluster and can be accessed by each cluster node, the SSIS service installed
on a remote server cannot be used a cluster node. So, please install the shared feature SQL Server Integration Services on each cluster node. Besides, if certain packages need to run in 32-bit mode in certain jobs and the SQL Server installed is 64-bit version,
you also need to install BIDS/SSDT on the cluster node to get the 32-bit runtime of SSIS.

OraOledb, Linked Servers and SQL Server 2005 issues
Some issues I've come across when using SQL Server 2005 (and SQL Server Express 2005), the OraOLEDB provider (10.2.0.1) and a linked Oracle database (8.1.7.4.0 64-bit)
1) You must set the OraOledb.Oracle\AllowInProcess value to 1 to allow the OraOledb provider to run in SQL Server's process. Without doing this I receive an 'unspecified error' from the OLE DB provider when attempting to run a query
2) When running a ' select * ' query across a linked server using the provider, I receive the following error: Msg 9803, Level 16, State 1, Line 1
Invalid data for type "numeric". I can, however, select all of the columns by name and the query completes (no error). Sometimes the 'select *' query returns a few rows before the error, sometimes it doesn't. The Microsoft Provider for Oracle does not have this problemOkay... I've got a Win2K3 Std Ed server (x64) running 64-bit SQL Server 2005 Enterprise Edition. I've installed the Oracle 10g 10.2.1 full client and admin tools, added two named services via the NetConfig assistant, and successfully set up (and tested) a connection via the ODBC Administrator to an Oracle database.
Now... when I try to create a new connection manager in SQL Server 2005 Integration Services, the OLEDB provider for Oracle can't be found, and when I try to manually add an underlying OLEDB connection to the database, SQL Server reports:
Test connection failed because of an error in initializing provider. The 'OraOLEDB.Oracle.1' provider is not registered on the local machine.
Does anyone know what I need to do to see my ODBC Server data connections in SQL Server 2005 (64 bit)? I don't have this issue on my 32-bit SQL Server 2005 servers. -
Which Laptop is good for VS 2012/2013 and SQL SERVER 2008 R2 /2012 ?
Hi,
I am planing to buy a laptop.
I am gonna be using mostly for Visual sStudio 2013 and Sql Server 2012 .
my budget is $1000.
confuse between DELL/ HP / LENOVO..!!!
please help. This is only a personal taste of mine:
I prefer to work in Virtual Machines. In fact I did set up a VM just for my programming. This has the advantage that games and other stuff are not slowed down by SQL Server Services and similiar stuff.
This also allows me to quickly make a small virtual networks with multiple clients if I need to test some client/server stuff.
Plus I am also a bit of an adminstrator and prefer to test stuff in VM's before I try them in the real world.
I prefer using Virtual Box for Virtual Machines, so one thing of big importance was support for VT-X/AMD-V. Without them Virtual Box cannot run x64 guests even on a x64 host system.
Otherwise I wanted Windows 8 (so I could finally learn to live with it/learn programming for it's UI). And of big importance was an upgrade of gaming ability (my old one had difficulty/impossibility to run most current games).
So I bought a x64, Win8 Gaming Laptop with 8 GiB RAM (so I can run 3-6 Windows 7 hosts in paralell) and looked that the CPU supported Hardware Virtualsiation.
Otherwise pretty much every current laptop will work. x64 OS might be prefereable, as .NET has some limitations under x32/x86 OS (like the
2 GiB limit). Multicore (2 or more) is pretty much the state of the art (are there still any single core CPU's out there?).
It of course needs to be a Windows (7 or 8) to support VS. New Laptops should have UEFI (all that are sold with Windows 8 have).
If you do not need a lot of storage, using a SSD instead of a HDD will propably speed up startups (Windows, Programms) and compilation times a lot (those are disk-heavy operations) - but I only know that it should and heard of people who have them.
Let's talk about MVVM: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/wpf/thread/b1a8bf14-4acd-4d77-9df8-bdb95b02dbe2 Please mark post as helpfull and answers respectively. -
Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 R2 - ?? for replication with Oracle
Hello:

I also would lile SqlPlus installed on the server.
I need a definite answer as to what I should download from the Oracle download area. There are just so many packages and so many version I dont know what to download.
ThanksHi,
Currently Microsoft Windows Server 2008 and SQL Server 2008 are not supported for SAP Business One.
For detailed information about all supported platforms, we have the following link for your reference:

I ran SQL Server 2012 express setup as user with administrator privileges and still it's failing to install "Database Engine Service" and "SQL Server Replication".
Any and every ideas on how to resolve this issue is greatly appreciated.Three weeks passed and I am yet to find a fix for the the failed installation of the database engine on sql server 2012 express installation. I have tried various work-around including uninstalling, deleting all the directory paths, and reinstallation. Still
not able to successfully install sql server 2012 express.
I will greatly appreciate any and every contribution towards resolving this issue. Thanks in advance.

What is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?
HI ,
I want to kow what is the different between Sharepoint fast search service and Sql server fulltext search?
Or Can I abstract the Sharepoint fast search from the Sharepoint platform as a isolate component?
Thank you.
JamesThey are very, very different beasts.
Firstly FAST Search for SharePoint is the old name for the product and is only relevant for SharePoint 2010 not 2013. It got merged into the standard SharePoint search for the 2013 release.
SharePoint search is aimed at providing a Bing or Google like experience for your intranet content, as well as providing some nifty features that are purely SharePoint releated along the way. That means it can crawl SharePoint content, file shares,
outlook mailboxes, internal and external websites and probably fifty other different things if you really tried. Whilst i'm not an expert on SQL full text search I believe it's intended to provide a search feature for content held within SQL databases
and tables.
Can you run SharePoint purely for Search? Yes, definitely.
