Running a mic through a USB interface: stereo

Another question from me,
I just purchased an M-Audio Fast Track USB interface, and no matter whether I press the stereo button or not, it only records in mono. I think I've skipped a step, is there any common problems I may have?
Thanks.

I believe that switch is only for direct monitoring. If you record one channel you're always recording in mono. Read this: http://www.bulletsandbones.com/GB/FAQPages/LeftSpeakerOnly.html
and check the link "all about stereo v. mono"

  • Getting SQL*Net more data from client waits when running a query through web based interface

    Hi, you all,
We are having this weird behavior when running query through web based interface, we get a lot of "SQL*Net more data from client" waits, the OEM indicates that the current wait event is SQL*Net more data from client
It's just a very simple query wich invokes a db link.
When I execute the same query on any PL/SQL tool like toad or sql developer it works fine, but that query inside an application executed through a web based interface, it hangs for ever.
Where can I start looking for the problem.
We are working on a 3 Node RAC 11gr2, both databases are on the same RAC.
    Thanks.

    Hi ,
we managed to reproduce the case in test environment, below are the steps:
1)have 2 databases on different machines, will call the first one local, the other one remote.
    2)in the local database create:
a - DBLink to remote database.
b - read data from remote database(we simply used select count(*) from dummy_table )
c - insert data into a table on the local database
d - terminate the connection between the 2 databases (disconnect either machine from the network)
e - commit on local database.
what we noticed was the following:
1)when the local database is disconnected from the network(the machine is not connected to any network at the moment): almost immediately throws an error, and issuing the following:
select * from dba_2pc_pending;we found some data .
    2) when the remote database was disconnected(the local database is still connected to the network):
after 7-8 seconds an error is thrown, and issuing the following:
select * from dba_2pc_pending;did not return any data.
since this is pretty similar to our case ,we concluded that it's a network issue.
is this the correct behavior ?
as a temporary solution till the network issue is fixed ,we did the following:
    1) changed the call of the remote procedure to calling a local procedure that calls the remote procedure.
    2) added pragma autonomous_transaction to the local procedure.
    3) at the end of the local procedure rollback the autonomous transaction.
it seems that since the global transaction does not use the DBLink database does not issue a 2PC commit.
this works in my cases since the DBLink is only issed to read data.

  • How to run 3 operations through my USB-6210 at the same time w/o gettin an error

Hi, I am using a USB-6210 data logger from national instruments to collect data and run it through labview 7.1. However, when i try to run two labview files at the same time on two different channels in the data logger i get an error #50103 "The specified resource is reserved the operation could not be completed. How do i fix this?

    Hi Mariachi,
I believe your overall project will be to collect data from
your USB-6210 on multiple lines and save this to a file. Photon Dan is correct
in the reason why you cannot use multiple tasks – because of the multiplexor,
only one AI task can be run at a time. I would suggest putting all lines into
one task and program, therefore eliminating the error, the need for multiple VI’s,
and writing all data to a file at once. If you have further questions, I would
ask that you post more detail about how you are collecting data (LabVIEW?
SignalExpress? Etc) and your program. Unless you are connecting to other
computers, you will not need to use VI Server, TCP, etc.

  • External HDD mirroring using USB Interface

Has anyone out there explored the possibility of mirroring two external HDDs (identical ones) through the USB interface ? If so, I would like to know how it can be achieved.
When I say mirroring, I mean that a single write operation actually duplicates the information on two separate external disks simultaneously. Much like the professional RAID mirroring on more expensive solutions. I am looking at a very inexpensive way of having redundancy built in for safeguarding my data. Perhaps some app out there can do this for me ? Or perhaps this may be a good idea for a brand new App ? Compromise on speed may be an issue, but it would be great value for money.

That is actually a classic backup solution using time machine, where both boot drive as well as EHD is being backed up incrementally in a format which is native to OS Mavericks. Such a backup can only be used to "Restore" the files back onto the source machine. Excellent for normal backup operations.
However, what I have in mind is two sets of EHDs (external HDD) formatted to FAT or maybe the NTFS, where the files are kept in a standard format and can be read on ANY machine whether OS X or Windows.
On a proper mirrored system, both HDDs appear to be one only, and the filesystem also appear to be one. So when we handle a file from the mirrored system, the cloning on the two HDD is done transparently without the user getting to know of it. Failure of one HDD will not result in loss of data since that would be available on the other HDD, and when the faulty HDD is replaced, the data gets replicated again from the good HDD. Such a mirrored system is very expensive and not affordable by ordinary mortals like most of us.
So, to get around the expense part of the whole thing, now that we have fast USB3 interfaces, we can possible use 2 x cheap EHDs hooked onto two separate USB 3 ports, and use them as a mirrored set. It is understandable that since the computer cannot access two USB ports simultaneously, there will be some trade-off to the speed of handling the two EHDs, but, that is acceptable. At least we have two identical sets of data available, which can be used in an emergency on any other system. Should one EHD crash, we can always extract all data from the second one.
I am not sure if such an arrangement is possible using the existing functionality of the OS X, and so someone may need to whip up an app or a script for doing this. Alternately, some really clever geek could come up with some remarkable solution/work-around. Looking forward for some bright spark from somewhere.

If you can find such a thing.  I really doubt that exists since USB is a data connector not a video connector.
would allow me to run the audio through my stereo.
That would depend on this adapter.

Hello all! Im having a bit of trouble here. Running a MK-319 Condenser Mic through a Phantom Power adapter, then through a Lexicon Alpha (audio interface) to my USB. I can't get a signal with GarageBand08. Any help would be much appreciated. Hope Im not being to vague.....

o.k., I'll do my best to answer that. Done=I've Created a drum track(loops). Set=? Changed=I've changed my input/output settings on both my Hard Drive & GarageBand Preferences to Lexicon Alpha. Created=I made a track with my giutar through the audio interface.... Im sorry, Im sure that didn't help at all. Im kind of new to all of this...

  • Cant hear song playback while recording with external USB Interface Mic in Garageband

    Hi there
There must be something wrong with my settings in Gargaeband/Mac Sound Settings.
I have Garageband 9 (V5.1) running a song I have already recorded using a USB keyboard.
I want to record using my external mic and my USB Audio Interface, so
I select New Track> Real Instrument
I plug in my Yamaha Audiogram 3 USB AUdio Interface and I get a pop up stating
"Garageband is scanning your system for audio devices, and has detected a device named "USB Audio Codec"
If you want to use this device do not disconnect it during the scanning process.
Do you want to use this devise No/Yes."
I select Yes and INPUT SOURCE changes from
    Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
    to
    Mono 1 (USB Audio CODEC)
I can see the signal lights lighting up on the audiogram 3 when I talk into the mic, so theres no problem there.
Also when I hit record I can record audio using the mic, and can see the levels (and the audio wave I am creating being drawn on the screen) but I cannot hear the track itself when I am recording using the mic. Nor can I hear the track or the new mic recorded audio AFTER I have hit stop.
The only way to hear the song again with the newly recorded mic track is to unplug the Audiogram 3 (Then I get another Pop-up stating
"The audio device "USB Audio CODEC" has been disconnected!
Do you want to switch to Built-in Audio or quit Garageband?"
    I select USE BUILT-IN AUDIO)
Then the input source changes back to
    Mono 1 (Built-in Microphone)
And I can hear the track again.
So my problem as you can see if that I cant hear the track while recording using the microphone with the Audiogram 3.
But I can record video with audio using the audiogram 3 USB Audio Inteface and mic using photobooth when I select change Sound>Input to USB Audio Codec in system preferences
It therefore assume it must be a problem with the internal audio settings of the mac/garageband.
    Can anyone advise?
    thanks!

In order to hear yourself while you are recording, you need to set Monitor to "ON" under the Track Info panel.
Also, what are your sound output settings?  It sounds like you haven't selected the right output source.
If your speakers or headphones are plugged into your audio interface, then you need to go into Preferences -> Audio/MIDI and select your audio interface under Output as well as Input.  If your speakers or headphones are built-in or plugged directly into your computer, then you need to select Built-In under Output.
I have a sneaky feeling that you are in the latter scenario, and that when you plug in your audio interface Garageband is automatically switching both Input and Output over to your interface, which means no sound output as long as the interface is plugged in.

  • No output when using a USB interface / real instrument or mic

Hi, I'm a Logic noob. I can get input and output from software instruments, but when I'm using my interface for my guitar or mic, I don't get any output. I can tell I'm getting input because the input bars jump around when I play, but I just can't seem to get any sound. I've searched through a couple other threads, but they seem to address changing output to hear during recording. Any advice?
    Thanks

When you select the M-Audio as audio hardware the Output goes to it!
If you want to use Mac internal audio then open the Audio Midi Setup (it's in the utility folder) and create an aggregate device.

  • Stereo to multichannel USB interface

Hello, I'm having a bit of a problem with my sound.
I bought a Hercules Gamesurround MUSE Pocket LT, a USb interface for 5.1 audio.
I've got it working with 5.1 games and movies but I'd like to output iTunes to all of the channels (so not real 5.1, but just fake it) as well as all other applications that output sound.
At this point I wouldn't even care if I lost the 5.1 surround, I only want to have the music coming out of all of the six speakers. I've used splitters in the past but for now that's a no go. It's a long story.
SO are there any drivers that output stereo to 5.1/multichannel ?
I've tried "USB Audio ASIO driver" but it only puts a beep every few seconds on the output and still uses only 2 speakers.

    YAY!!!!
together with AULab from Apple, soundflower can set up stereo->surround audio.
    http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=148492
    Quote here for future reference:
Parastie wrote on the insanelymac forums:
It's taken me quite some time to figure this out, and considering how easy it was I should have gotten this done a long time ago. For a little bit of history, I purchased a X-Fi Surround 5.1 for my Macbook Pro. Anyone who has this sound card knows that it has wonderful audio quality, or at least in Windows. In Mac, it has no ability to upscale stereo sound to 5.1, which is something I really enjoy. I have this device connected analog out to 5.1 speakers, and here's how I got it all to work! I'm using OSX 10.4, and the instructions should be similar for 10.5.
    1.
    Download SoundFlower
    http://code.google.com/p/soundflower/
    2.
Make sure you have AULabs installed. It's part of the Dev Pack, so check
    Developer/Applications/Audio for the AULabs
    3.
Now we need to make sure that OSX knows that you're dealing with surround sound stuff. Once you have everything installed, go into the MIDI Configuration panel, listed under Utilities.
3a: Under the 'Properties' category, you need to select your SB X-Fi Surround 5.1. Click on Speaker Configuration and choose Multichannel, then select 5.1 Surround. Make sure you click apply!
3b: Again under 'Properties' choose the Soundflower (16ch). Click on Speaker configuration and choose Multichannel, then select 5.1 Surround. Make sure you click apply!
    4.
This is where things get interesting! Launch AULabs. For Audio Device, choose Soundflower (16ch). You can experiment here, but I found it easier to add filters by manipulating each channel seperatly.
4a: So under Outputs, look for Output Channels and choose 'mono'. Now you'll need to add 6 channels. To prevent crossing signals, you need to make the channels 11-16, instead of 1-6. Now click on Inputs and add channels 1 and 2. Click Okay.
4b: Now, you should have 2 channels under Audio Device and 6 under Master Out. Under Audio Device, look down where Volume is listed. You should see numbers 1-6 listed for each channel. These numbers correspond with the Outputs. For Audio 1 (which is the left channel), you want to choose 1,3,4, and 5. For Audio 2 (which is the right channel), you want to choose 2,3,4, and 6.
4c: Remember, you don't want to close this window, but you can choose File and Save, to save this right now.
    5.
Now we're going to configure Soundflower using Soundflowerbed. Under Applications, open the folder for Soundflower and launch Soundflowerbed.
5a: Soundflowerbed is an application that hangs out in the menu bar at the top right. Click on it and look at the Soundflower (16ch) and you want to choose your audio device. for me, I chose SB X-Fi Surround 5.1.
5b: Click on Soundflowerbed again open the drop down menu for the Soundflower (16ch). What we need to do is route sound to the proper places. Under channels 1 and 2, you want to choose 'none'. You might also want to change channels 1-6 to 'none', but that's up to you.
5c: Now you need to route channels 11-16 to the proper places. 11 goes to SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 [1], 12 goes to SB X-Fi Surround 5.1 [2], 13 to 3, etc.
    6
Play something! You should have sound going to all 5.1 speakers! Experiment with some filters in AULabs. I'm using the AULowpass filter on channel 4, which is the subwoofer and i've been tinkering with Hipass filtering on the center channel to isolate voices.
Let me know what everyone thinks. There might be a way to use this application to build a true application, but I don't know how. the AULab must be running for these features to work. If you close it, the audio will stop. Enjoy!

  • No sound through the USB wire to my external interface.

    Hi all!
Here is my problem: The interface (Roland Octa-Capture) is set as "default" in the apple preferences, AND in Logic pro, of course, but, though it works perfectly well as long as I plug a microphone in (throug a pre-amp), once I Launch the tune in Logic, the sound of the already taped lines (the sound of Logic, in fact) is only to hear through the internal speakers of the Mac! Nothing goes through the USB wire to the interface and to the monitors where the interface is plugged.
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thank you.
    Kind regards.
    Rwubu

What about in other software eg. iTunes - do your MP3s play back fine through the Roland and over the speakers?
If that's the case, go into Logic's preferences:
    http://documentation.apple.com/en/logicpro/usermanual/index.html#chapter=44%26se ction=4%26tasks=true
and choose the Roland as the Output Device.

  • Hi. Anyone have a problem running a 4g stick through a usb port on a MacBook Air running Mavericks? Did you fix it? If so, how? Thanks.

I can run everything through the usb port, including another manufacturer's 4G stick. The 4G stick that doesnt work on my Air works on my son's. The only difference I can find? Mavericks!

whats it formatted as?    Alas junker thumb drives fall like rain everywhere.
Do you have another stick / thumb drive you can verify your USB port with?
Stick with Sandisk or otherwise reputable  memory sticks for your Macbook.
What do you mean by "another manufacturer"?  Apple doesnt make thumb drives, .....no computer mfg. makes them, however HP has their name on one

  • Interfacing Zaber Motor through a USB port

Hey guys!  I'm pretty new to LabVIEW and am trying to control a Zaber T-NM series stepper motor.  However, my computer does not have a free serial port so I'm not sure how to do this through the USB input.  I have a serial-to-USB cable, but I'm lost on the coding side of things.  I have three VIs that work through the serial port but not the USB port.  Anybody know how to tweak these to get them to work with USB?

    Hello:
If you are using a USB-to-Serial cable, then you can connect and communicate to the controller the same way that you have done using an RS-232 interface, via a COMx: port. When you plug the USB-to-Serial cable into your PC, Windows should find the device driver for it an enumerate it as a Serial Comm Class device and assign it a COMx: port. You can find out which COMx: port it is by looking for it under Ports in the Windows Device Manager. Use the X number com port you find in your VI.

  • USB interface

Can you connect a USB mic or a keyboard through a USB adapted connector through the iPad interface? Will GarageBand recognize and use the USB mic and controller?
    Thank you.

Apparently the USB camera interface can be used to connect an external midi keyboard:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2783214?start=0&tstart=0
There are various solutions for connecting external microphones, guitars etc. in an analog fashion. I don't know if a USB mic is feasible.

  • Making a USB interface

Something I always wanted to do is to be able to design some hardware that would send information into a computer and communicate with some software that the user could interact with. Here are some examples: I have different hardware with USB inputs such as a biofeedback device, a sound level meter, etc. Or, if I designed a circuit that sent and received information to a USB output which could be plugged into a computer. It would be great to be able to write a program that gets and sends information to these devices. But, I just do not know where to start. I was wondering if one of you could point me in the direction of understanding the process. Does it involve writing a driver? If so, what is involved? etc.
Here is concretely what I am looking to do now.
I have an exercise bike that has an eight pin input from the bike into a circuit board which connects to a screen. I would like to disconnect the screen and communicate with the bike through my laptop running Mac OS X. I figure it must be possible to have the eight pin input connect to a USB computer input that would connect to a computer. I imagine, if you understood how Mac OS X works at a fundamental level, you could then write a program that would then use the input from the bike (through the USB input).
Somebody must know how to do this because every device that hooks into a computer must do this. I would just like to know the basics of how to get this to work at the most simple level. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Forget about USB and OSX and programming etc for now.. the first thing you will need to do is work out what each of those wires are used for. Are they connected to sensors or another circuit? Do they drive the screen, or does the screen drive them? Do they need power? What voltage? etc. If you can't do this.. then there isn't much point continuing any further until you can. If you aren't already handy with a multimeter and a soldering iron, then you might want to try interfacing the computer with something a little less complicated to start with, or find someone who is experienced to help you.
How to talk to/program for a custom USB device is going to be the last thing you want to deal with, not to mention requires many years of system level programming experience. Something I am assuming you don't have by the way you asked the question (no offence intended).
That's not to say don't attempt it.. on the contrary, it sounds like a cool idea, however it's not going to be easy. For the computer interface part I would probably be looking for an already supported, cheap, input device that can be repurposed to suit, such as a USB gamepad controller, which have numerous digital and analogue inputs, not to mention readily available example source code from apple on how to talk to it.

  • Audiobox usb interface won't mount on MacBook Air

PreSonus AudioBox USB (2in/4out) when attached to either USB on mid 2013 MacBook Air 11, won't show up in garage band, garage band preferences, apple audio system preferences, apple midi system preferences or even in the 'about this mac' system report.  The device is totally unrecognized and supposed to be totally compliant plug and play.  I'm runnin OS 10.9.1 with all updates.  The AudioBox interface shows red power light and a light on the 48V phantom power button.  All cables are good, Microphone functions and MacBook air is connected to a power supply.  (Macbook, condenser microphone, AudioBox and all cables are new.)  Any experience with this out there?

Yes, Id return it and either:
get the Roland UA-22 Duo-Capture EX
or the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 USB
    WHAT mic?
The best idea is to drop that noisy and hissy squawk box and get a ZOOM H6 which has USB interface with MORE options, LESS noise, and far easier to use
phantom power from the H6 is from 4 AA batts, and not via USB.    (have and use same myself) with these Mics:
The unit youre using is getting 48V phantom via USB, which depending on the Mic, often stinks.
