Running a patch in preinstall=Y mode

As part of the action plan on an SR, I have been asked to apply 5 patches, one of which (Patch 13864126) in to be run in preinstall=y mode.
What are the consequences of applying the patch normally without the preinstall=y mode?
Thanks

If the patch README file instructs you to use preinstall=y option then please do so and don't apply the patch normally.
Please see http://www.oracle.com/pls/ebs121/search?word=preinstall&format=ranked&remark=quick_search for details about preinstall mode option.
Thanks,

Set up your "main" router to use the OpenDNS servers, and the Time Capsule will automatically pick up those settings. No configuration is needed on the Time Capsule.

Is there a way to run ColdFusion 10 Developer in Standard mode for testing?
My main concern is the Oracle drivers and if the standard edition will meet our needs, but would like to test it before purchasing what could be the incorrect license.

"Oracle Drivers" is not generally interpretted to mean "Drivers written by Oracle [the company]", it means "drivers written for Oracle [ie: the database]". A case in point... would you describe the drivers Oracle supply for MySQL to be "Oracle drivers" or "MySQL drivers"?
So will you please stop pedantically splitting hairs. You cannot use the drivers Adobe have licensed from DataDirect to connect to an Oracle database in CF Standard. I have now had this verified by two people, both of whom are sitting in front of a CF Standard install, and have taken time to check this for you. You can describe the drivers however you like, but the fact remains you can't use 'em.
You need to get hold of some drivers from somewhere else. I recommend getting some from Oracle, given - as you point out - they are the vendor of the DB in question. But there are other vendors who write Oracle drivers too. As you say: DataDirect do. You can use theirs. You have to pay for them though.

  • Published report will not run; works fine in VS2010 debug mode.

Have 64bit Visual Studio Ultimate installed, CRv13_1 and MSSQL 2008 R2.
The issue I am having is the report work like a champ when I run the web application in debug mode. IE I hit the run button in Visual Studio, However when I publish the application the report will not run. I get various errors depending on how I have connected to report to MSSQL. I have tried ODBC and OLE DB connections. I have tried Windows authentication and MSSQL user login. The results are the same. the report works fine in debug mode but will not work when published. The most common error message is :
    Error
    Database logon failed.
    or
Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\NETWORK SERVICE'
Depending on how I am authenticating. I have Google this issue and there are tons of posts about it but no solutions. Any help would be appreciated.

See if the article [Troubleshooting Guide to Database Connectivity Issues with Crystal Reports in Visual Studio .NET Applications|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/b0225775-88c4-2c10-bd80-8298769293de] helps.
I'd settle on the prefered connection method and troubleshoot that. Use the search box in the top right corner of this web page. It will bring up KBases, blogs, wikis, articles and more. Also, search these forums. There is lots of info here and lots of answers.

when i run keynote in the play mode, some times the computer get stuck, why?, when i run key note in the play mode, some times the computer get stuck, why?

    hello,
I had the same issue. This is what I was told to do.
iWork has to be removed completely to be effective when re-installing, you must use an application removal tool to do this or it wont remove every Keynote file.
Appcleaner   will do this and its free.
The following procedure has helped solve many issues with Keynote:
1  Close Keynote then use Appcleaner
    2  Empty the Trash
3  Shut down the Mac, then restart and press the shift key immediately after the startup sound, then release shift when the Apple logo appears
allow the Mac to boot up to the desktop, it will take longer then usual as the hard drive is being repaired
    4  restart the Mac
    5  Reinstall iWork
    6  Repair permissions:
Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility > First  Aid:   click on your system disc in the drive column
              and select Repair  Disk Permissions
    7  open Keynote and test

Possibility to run 9iAS for OCS in clustered mode
    Hi,
we're using two nodes of 9iAS in two data centers. We've been told that it isn't possible to add the 9iAS to a 9iAS cluster. Does anybody has experience to use two nodes of 9iAS of OCS2 as cluster with load balancing and automatic configuration deployment functionality?
    Any help would be welcomed...
    Kind regards,
    Tobias Hitzfeld

You can use RAC for the databases but the infrastructure is only supported with HA CFC (Cold failover Cluster). You can look at the document for this in this location.

    ...that makes sense to me.
but, why do so many MBA users (on this forum and others) claim that ventilation occurs through the keyboard?  Is this claim based on an old macbook design?
for example, here's a related discussion (although fairly old):

A common misconception of unknown origin. The intake and the exhaust for the cooling fan on the 13" MB and MBP are both located on the rear slot at the base of the hinge. In fact, you can actually see the divider that separates the intake flow from the output flow. If it were through the keyboard crevices, then an awful lot of overheats would result from people using impermeable keyboard covers, as well as Apple's warranty department would be flipping out over the Apple store carrying such covers. iSkin ProTouch FX Keyboard Cover for all MacBooks - Black Printed Keys on White - Apple Store (U.S.)

once again, I've tried a few of these keyboard covers. the Moshi keyboard cover is the ONLY one I can recommend. the others are too thick or change the keyboard experience too much.

Re: Is it safe to use MBP with screen lid closed? Leave charge on always?
    1. Closing the cover will cause more heat. This is not because of covering the keyboard very much (though it does help some heat be retained). It's mainly because of the shape of the hinge and the fact when closed it covers up the back vent a lot more. For the best cooling, it is best to have the screen open. Just run it as a dual monitor, but make the external the Primary monitor, and if you don't want to use the built in, just turn its backlight off and don't use it.
    2. The thing you plug into the wall is not a battery charger. The actual "charger" is built into the computer. It knows when to charge and when not to. If the little light on the power plug is amber, then its charging your battery. When its green, its just powering the laptop and NOT charging your battery at all.

I'd leave the lid open, at least partially...yes it may be fine not doing that, but you are making heat dissipate worse, of course could even theoretically hurt the screen.
As for the battery...well there's really only two choices, have it plugged in or not. As others mentioned, you can't overcharge the battery. It can be damaged a bit from heat, but of course the number one thing that's going to damage it is discharging it...so it's a no brainer-use it plugged in whenever possible, and try to charge it whenever possible when it's not plugged in.

Nope. Apple would disagree with you on that one. Any "closure", which is, when compared to the amount of CFM, is insignificant. In fact, the opening size remains the same. it is only deflected at a slight angle when the lid is closed. Tilt your MBP and see. As well, shutting down the display lowers the heat being generated, even in the lower case. As I said, if it were a problem, Apple would not be selling stands designed to operate your unit in the closed position as the original poster of this thread proposes to do.

  • My mid-2010 27" iMac running Mavericks is fine in safe mode, but with normal boot up the screen goes haywire with some animation emanating from the apple menu area at top left of screen.

From what I'm reading in these forums, this is likely an issue due to some 3rd party software / kernal conflict. I am going to run a diagnostic and perhaps someone here can help me evaluate the results and determine what software must be removed.
It's hard to describe what I'm seeing on screen. I've never seen anything like it. I get a number of lines that begin at the top left of my screen, about at the apple icon, and they spread out in a triangular pattern from left to right, top to bottom across my screen, while the entire screen flickers uncontrollably. I realize that iMacs from this era have screen issues, but since I can boot fine in safe mode, this can't be a hardware issue.
    Any assistance is greatly appreciated!

    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. All it does is to collect information about the state of the computer. That information goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. However, you should be cautious about running any kind of program (not just a shell script) at the behest of a stranger. If you have doubts, search this site for other discussions in which this procedure has been followed without any report of ill effects. If you can't satisfy yourself that the instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    4. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    5. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    6. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:

Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    7. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    8. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "syntax error," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    9. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    10. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
    [Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report the results. No harm will be done.
    11. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with "Model Identifier." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
    12. When you post the results, you might see the message, "You have included content in your post that is not permitted." It means that the forum software has misidentified something in the post as a violation of the rules. If that happens, please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.
Note: This is a public forum, and others may give you advice based on the results of the test. They speak only for themselves, and I don't necessarily agree with them.

  • Need to run macbook pro in 32 bit mode to run and external modem how do i change from 64 bit to 32 bit

I have a macbook pro which i presume runs in a 64 bit mode. living in a country without broadband i need to use a 32 bit modem, can i change the system to run this modem at 32 bit as it wont load at 64?

Reboot holding 3 and 2, see if your modem works.
Rebooting again sets it back to 64 bit.
If 32 bit works then your fine, for now, but eventually your going to have to go 64 bit.

  • Cannot run HP QTP 11 in integrated mode with Solution Manager 7.1

    Hi,
I have setup qtp to work with solution manager 7.1. QTP works in standalone mode with no issues. as soon as I try and use it in integrated, i.e. launch qtp from solution manager, the message "failed to start external test tools quicktest professional" displays. When I click the back button the message "error during method call in OLE API" displays.
Using qtp in integrated mode worked previously on the solution manager 7.1 system.  Since the solution manager 7.1 system was moved to a new datacenter it stopped working. I am not sure if this could have had an impact.
I have tested qtp with several different solution manager boxes and it works perfectly in integrated mode. please advise what server side settings i need to consider to solve the issue.
    Sincerely,
    David

  • Proper procedure for patching from Single User mode

Typically when I install a patch cluster from Sun, I do a sanity reboot from the console of the server using:
    shutdown -y -g0 -i6
When the system comes back online, I log into the console again and then do:
shutdown -y -g0 -i0 (to go into OBP)
    then
boot -s (to go into single user mode)
The procedure above was given to me from a Sun technician.
Then I install the patch cluster and reboot. It has come to my attention that Sun recommends breaking any mirrors between your disks before patching. I wanted to know what is the best way to do this for both Veritas Volume Manager and Solaris Volume Manager. For Veritas Volume Manager, I was thinking of going into the vxdiskadm menu driven utility and choosing the option to "Remove a disk for replacement" for the rootmirror disk and then after a reboot to check that the patches did not cause a problem, go back into vxdiskadm and choose the option "Replace a failed or removed disk" and select the rootmirror which should then begin to automatically resync itself to the primary rootdisk. Any comments on if this is a proper way to do this or if someone has a better method, I would love to hear it. I am assuming a system with just two internal disks: c1t0d0s2 and c1t1d0s2
Also, if anyone can comment on how to do this with Solaris Volume Manager or if it is required would be great also.
    Thanks much for any advice.

boot -s (to go into single user mode)
The procedure above was given to me from a Sun
technician. Not a bad thing to check reboot before patching, but I don't think it's in any official documentation that I'm aware of.
Then I install the patch cluster and reboot. It has
come to my attention that Sun recommends breaking any
mirrors between your disks before patching.Again, I don't know if it's "official", but if you have a backup copy that you could boot from, it does reduce the possibilities of critical problems from a bad patch.
    I wanted
to know what is the best way to do this for both
Veritas Volume Manager and Solaris Volume Manager.
For Veritas Volume Manager, I was thinking of going
into the vxdiskadm menu driven utility and choosing
the option to "Remove a disk for replacement" for the
rootmirror disk and then after a reboot to check that
the patches did not cause a problem, go back into
vxdiskadm and choose the option "Replace a failed or
removed disk" and select the rootmirror which should
then begin to automatically resync itself to the
primary rootdisk. Any comments on if this is a proper
way to do this or if someone has a better method, I
would love to hear it. I am assuming a system with
just two internal disks: c1t0d0s2 and c1t1d0s2
Also, if anyone can comment on how to do this with
Solaris Volume Manager or if it is required would be
great also.Well, it'll work as you've described, but what if the patches fail? The disconnected mirror is not bootable. You'd have to go through an unencapsulation and other things from a CD.
I've often simply pulled one side of the mirror while the machine was shutdown. Since the mirror was valid prior to pulling, it will boot. If there's a problem, I shut down, swap disks, and boot from the untouched mirror. If no problem, I re-insert, reattach the disk to the diskgroup, then recover the volumes.
I don't know of any nice supported method of booting from an offline VxVM mirror that doesn't involve a very long series of steps. My method isn't supported, but it does work. If you have both disks in the machine at the same time though, it'll update the private regions. Don't do that until you're ready to sync up one way or the other. Test before doing it in production.
In any event, you should have a backup ready to go.
