Windows programs can't run natively:

Windows on Intel Macs
There are presently several alternatives for running Windows on Intel Macs.
Install the Apple Boot Camp software.  Purchase Windows XP w/Service Pak2, Vista, or Windows 7.  Follow instructions in the Boot Camp documentation on installation of Boot Camp, creating Driver CD, and installing Windows.  Boot Camp enables you to boot the computer into OS X or Windows.
Parallels Desktop for Mac and Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  Parallels is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
VM Fusionand Windows XP, Vista Business, Vista Ultimate, or Windows 7.  VM Fusion is software virtualization that enables running Windows concurrently with OS X.
CrossOver which enables running many Windows applications without having to install Windows.  The Windows applications can run concurrently with OS X.
VirtualBox is a new Open Source freeware virtual machine such as VM Fusion and Parallels that was developed by Solaris.  It is not as fully developed for the Mac as Parallels and VM Fusion.
Note that Parallels and VM Fusion can also run other operating systems such as Linux, Unix, OS/2, Solaris, etc.  There are performance differences between dual-boot systems and virtualization.  The latter tend to be a little slower (not much) and do not provide the video performance of the dual-boot system. See MacTech.com's Virtualization Benchmarking for comparisons of Boot Camp, Parallels, and VM Fusion. Boot Camp is only available with Leopard or Snow Leopard. Except for Crossover and a couple of similar alternatives like DarWine you must have a valid installer disc for Windows.
You must also have an internal optical drive for installing Windows. Windows cannot be installed from an external optical drive.

You would have to use Bootcamp to install a full copy of Windows to run Publisher, or virtual software.  There's no other way.  Microssoft's native code is not compatible with Apple's OSX code.
    Hope this helps

Then you are using Labview RT on a PC, a real time OS will be installed in the process. The OS is the PharLap, Real-Time OS . So you will indeed be using a OS

No, you must install Windows to run Windows software. You do not need to use Boot Camp (yes, it's free because it comes with OS X.)

Can i just partition my HD by using boot camp 4.0.1 without install windows?
cox i want to use rEFIt to boot up my pendrive to install windows.
Due to some reason the boot camp 4.0.1 cannnot detect my usb drive (that contained windows 7), so thats why i use the rEFIt to boot from my usb drive

    Yes, you can.
Let the BootCamp Assistant just make the partition and do not click on "Install Windows"-button.
The result is a preformatted FAT32-partition on your Mac.

  • Can I create a Bootcamp partition without installing Windows immediately?

I have a clone of my bootcamp that contains Windows 7, but can't restore to the Clone without a Bootcamp partition.
    I am running Lion.
Is there anyway to create the bootcamp partition without the Windows Install Disk?...if so, I could just restore my Cloned Bootcamp onto the Bootcamp Parition.
    Thank you,
    AK

Wait...after I hit send, I realized you had cloned your boot camp parition with winclone.  My bad...well, you can always try putting the cloned partition on the exFAT partition, if possible.  I think what I had to do when I bought a new hard drive was to boot into the old had drive.  I then attached the new drive with a handy universal drive kit (http://eshop.macsales.com/item/NewerTech/U3NVSPATA/).  I think I used iPartition to create an NTFS partition on my new drive. I then copied my cloned Windows partition onto the new drive.

See http://m.winsupersite.com/windows-8/windows-81-tip-download-windows-81-iso-windows-8-product-key but note that you will need a
placeholder key to install Windows 8.1. Follow the comments on the article to find one.

  • How repair OS without installing Windows completely?

I have a A10 notebook that crashed after a virus or worm attack.( I think).
It came with two recovery discs and a driver etc disc.
It boots, but cannot start windows XP, because the file \windows\system32\config\system is missing or corrupt. It tells me that I can attemt repair of this file by starting Windows setup using the original Windows setup CD-ROM, after which I need to select 'r' at the first screen.
I do not have a Windows setup disc, Windows XP must be on the recovery discs. These give me the option to completely reinstall windows, which I am loath to do. Another option is for Prof. users, but I do not see the use for it.
How do I repair or reinstall config sys without re installing windows completely??
    With regards,
    Hans

    Hi Hans
As far as I know its not possible to copy some singles files from the recovery CD, because its just an image on CD. I think the only way to solve this problem is to recover your system with recovery CD.
If anybody has other ideas please share with us.
    Best regards

  • Imac bootcamp install windows did not install completely but works?

Hello i installed windows 8.1 pro and did it correctly with bootcamp but when it came to installing apps (where the colours change and and text are above) it stop and restarted my mac to windows 8.1 all working with no support software (the one where bootcamp installs automaticaly) and did it manually and works like brand new as intended.
My Q is is this ok or is windows somewhat not done correctly do i need to do something and if not let me know
Note:On the first time it did it i removed windows and tried again with no success it will happen again
    Thank you.

The BC drivers are meant to be installed silently. See the highlighted part. It can fail, so a Repair will get the drivers in place properly. It may require a Windows reboot.

  • Flashing bios of k8n neo2 plat without installing windows?

    hi
my k8n neo2 arrives tomorrow to replace an asus a8v which is causing me problems with my x2 4400 and dsp cards (uad-1 and poco mk2).
with the asus i could use "ez flash" and put a floppy (or cd) with the bios and press a button and the bios would flash.
does the k8n neo2 have a similar function.  i have skimmed through the manual pdf but can't see a reference to this way of updating the bios.
or do i have to install windows and then the bios update.  the reason i ask is because it is only the latest bios that recognises the dual-core and so if i installed windows, the hal wouldn't be multi-processor therefore only one core would be recognised and i'd have to install windows xp pro over again.
thanks very much in advance for any help.

    wow!
thanks for the quick replies richard and syar, appreciated man.
can i do this with a cd-rom instead of floppy?
    1. download the bios file and flash tool.
Unzip them if zipped and have them ready to copy to the cd image.
    2. Goto
    http://www.bootdisk.com/
Down on the page you find a subtilte called "Bootable CD"
Download flashcd.zip and read the userguide thouroghly.
Direct link to flashcd : http://www.bootdisk.com/kentucky/flashcd.zip
    3. Download and install UltraISO from http://www.ezbsystems.com
    4. Start UltraISO and follow the instructions from flashcd's readme :
    File | Open | Select flashcd.iso | Open | Image windows shows bootable |
Select your bios files in the lower window | Drag to the top window | File |
    Save.
    To burn:
File | Open | Click on flashcd.iso | Open | You'll see your bios flash
files on the right | Tools | Burn
Then you have a bootable cd with biosfiles
Remember that the bios files will be on drive R:> after booting the cd.
When the cd has loaded on the dos prompt write R: followed by enter
Then write the AWFLxxx biosfile string like you do from a floppy boot

Some extra tip for you in order to avoid such issues in future.
Stop testing software on your real computer - use Virtual Machine instead:
    http://www.howtogeek.com/206286/stop-testing-software-on-your-pc-use-virtual-machine-snapshots-inste...
    http://www.howtogeek.com/196060/beginner-geek-how-to-create-and-use-virtual-machines/
On a Virtual machine you run as much software and OS as you want without the need to sacrafice the integrity of original host operating system, without re-installations, etc.  What is best here for you is that it is free. You can test with free 30 or 90 day trial version of the operating system (e.g. trial Windows Enterprise edition), you can test with free Linux-based OS, and VirtualBox (from Oracle) and VMWare Player are both free.

  • How can I install Windows 7 Pro intoa pre-installed Windows 8.1 Envy 23?

Hello...I HATE 8.1...but I saw your marvelous driver list for a laptop, and was wondering if it is similar for a HP Desktop when removing windows 8.1.   I've already asked HP for help, but they, alas, are not 'able' to tell me I can even load Windows 7 on the Envy 23.  Very nice people, but very limited in information.
I have managed to locate 2 brand new copies of Windows 7 Pro software, plus have one on hand...obviously, until Windows understands that the world does not like phone apps on a computer, we will be needing backup copies!!!
My brand new mess is a HP Envy 23 that I just purchased last Sunday, and detest thoroughly.
I have gotten the backup USB, just in case, but other than wiping the disk (if I can), and changing the boot order (If I will be allowed), and of course, eliminating any extra platforms I might find If that can be done)...what will I need to save from the 8.1 install to make the bits andpieces, likes sound, and color, and whatever work?
And what on earth is UEFI?
Thanks in advance...I know this forum is a labor of love.
Six days in to a 30 day return...Help!
    This question was solved.

Knowing the full model of the computer would help, HP Envy 23-xxxxxx
Trying to downgrade your system to would probably void your warranty and provide a challenge trying to find drivers that would work in Windows 7, a real headache.
Should you wish to go that route you would have to disable Secure boot and enable Legacy in order to change the boot order.
It may be easier to keep what you have and make Windows 8 look and feel like Windows 7
