Running AppleScript on another account or automatic user switching

So here's my issue, in order to do what I want I need to constantly have a window open that cannot be closed. I do not want to always have a window open while I'm using my computer that I can't close since it will be an extremely annoying burden.
So, I was curious if there was a way in which I can run my program on my other user account allowing me to still use my main account. Keep in mind my applescript uses keyboard functions and requires having my browser open and internet connection to send information to my friend.
Since I highly doubt this is possible, my second inquiry was whether or not there is a simple way to switch between users. This way I can have uptime and downtime in which my program will switch users, run the program and then switch back. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be any keyboard functions to toggle the quick switch between users.
When trying to figure this out I found this but I don't understand what this means or what programming language it is.
If anyone has any information regarding this think may be useful it would be very much appreciated, even if you don't have a solution. Thank you.

  • Can icloud email receive email messages from another account by automatically retrieving them like my iphone does. Microsoft calls this pop mail

I have an iphone and an ipad. I don't have an Exchange email account pulling all my messages from my verizon email account into my apple devices. My husband uses his Outlook computer at work to create 2 Inboxes on his iphone (one is his work email Inbox and one Inbox is his pulling from his personal account). I noticed using an Exchange-type email program with the iphone allows for features I want. I want to check email on my phone and ipad. I ALSO want to be able to file emailed coupons into an Inbox coupon folder on my phone and ipad for easy retrieval. It seems the icloud email program will let you do all of this. It also seems Google offers gmail and it will do this for me. Now that I set up an icloud email address, I can't figure out how to get Verizon email pulled into it. My iphone and ipad pulls my Verizon email but does not allow for Inbox folders. Verizon won't auto-forward emails to another account. Gmail will pull them for me though. Will icloud do this?

Verizon netmail just offered auto email Forwarding. So, even though icloud might might not offer the services Gmail and other email programs offer to pull email, it seems I might still be able to accomplish what I want using the other email account's ability to forward my email to my icloud email address. We'll see. Please reply if you know the answer to the icloud's ability to pull email in a way like pop-mail does for pc users. It would have helped me if I could've found the answer to that question in this support forum...

  • How can you share a iPhoto library with another account user

I have recently seen the light and swapped from Windows to my lovely new iMac. However I am rather confused how I can configure my iPhoto library so my wife can view the same library in her account on the same machine (this was a simple thing within Windows, using shared folders). Am I missing something or do I have to duplicate the same library and place into my wife's account and then update each time we upload some photo's? Please help!

This may not be the "neatest" solution possible, but it's one that works. Just as iPhoto makes it easy to share photos between computers on the same network, you can also share photos between accounts on the same computer; but you'll have to be logged in with iPhoto running.
    1) Configure iPhoto in your account for photo sharing (from iPhoto, select Preferences > Sharing> Share my photos).
    2) Enable fast user switching from System Preferences > Accounts > Login Options. This is the key to the process, which will allow you to remain logged in while your wife is also logged in. It's also a very handy feature if you and your wife use the computer a lot from your own accounts.
    3) Enable "Personal File Sharing" and "Remote Apple Events" from System Preferences > Sharing > Services. [I had already done this step, so I'm not sure if it's strictly necessary]
    4) With iPhoto up and running in your account, use Fast User Switching to log into your wife's account (ie, you remain logged-in). [The Fast User Switching menu will be in the upper right of the main menu bar.]
    5) From her iPhoto preferences, select Sharing > "Look for shared photos" if it's not already switched on.
Your photos will magically appear in the left hand column of your wife's iPhoto application using the name you designated in your copy of iPhoto.
Caveats: performance is not very good, you must be logged in and have iPhoto running, HP printers (if you have one) don't work well with fast user switching
Other solutions might be possible by "drilling a hole" into your account by altering the Unix permissions. I've used this technique to make my iTunes library available to other users on my machine. Such a solution would no doubt improve performance.
Finally, there are third-party products that allow you to manage multiple iPhoto libraries. I've never used these, but they might allow you to load the iPhoto library from another account assuming permissions are properly set.
Hope this is of some use; I'm sorry if it's a little more complicated than you might have expected.

  • ITunes with fast user switching.

One day I was listening to a really good and song and found that I need to switch to another account on my Mac so when I switched it stopped my music and I was like crap I have when I have to switch users when listening to music. So I was thinking how cool would it be if when I switched user if itunes would just keep playing so it would not interrupt me. Does anyone know how I could accomplish this?

Now that I'm running Leopard I can say that is still happens; iTunes stops when switching accounts through Fast User Switching.
Except yesterday iTunes kept playing for some reason. At the same time it seemed like Fast User Switching was broken, at least from the account with iTunes playing. Only the Login Window choice was enabled. So it might be that selecting a user directly is when iTunes gets stopped. However I don't know how to get it to work that way again since the login window option is not available when Fast User Switching is turned off—you can only Log Out (which of course turns off everything).
Maybe an enterprising programmer can fix this lack of choice in Leopard.

  • Screen has a bluish tint after fast user switching and then warning tone

Hi all I'm having a bit of a problem that I hope someone can help me with. First the details, I have a MBP bought in late '07 and running Tiger. I was doing full backups using "Backup" and I also had Safari, iTunes, and Word open. I briefly switched to my other account using fast user switching and when I returned to the original account the whole screen had a blue tint to it. Like the color profile was off. This has happened before and a restart usually cures it, I haven't restarted yet but I am fairly certain it will correct the problem this time too. But is there anyway to prevent this? My second question is the one I'm more worried about. It also has happened before but usually when using more CPU intensive applications. When I went to System Preferences and opened up the display preferences in an attempt to correct the previous problem I heard a very loud tone. Like some type of warning tone, it was loud enough that it startled me. I had iTunes playing and after the tone the music got very quiet but relaunching it brought it back to normal. I'm just wondering is this some type of warning tone? Is it something I should be concerned about? Besides the music everything else seemed unaffected, although the previous times that this has happened usually when using handbrake there was noticeable problems after the tone (like applications crashing). All of these problems are gone after the computer is restarted though. Does anyone have any insight on these issues? Thank you.

OK I ran TechTool and everything passed except for the volume scan. Then I checked this with Disk Utility and the HD failed for a few minor reasons, like invalid block count. I repaired it using the fsck -fy command in single user mode. The computer seems a little faster now. I don't know if this error is related to the beep in any way, I may try talking to an Apple genius to see if they know. Since it seems like pretty minor errors I'm not too worried about it but it does seem to be happening often. The last time I had this error was when I posted a question here about it which I just checked was on March 1st. So this error happened again after a little more than 2 weeks which seems excessive to me. Any thoughts?

  • ITunes 7.7 pauses with Fast User Switching

As far as I can tell iTunes 7.7 now stops playing songs after I switch users. I'm using 10.4.11. Has anybody had this problem in Leopard?
I really want to hear songs continue playing from my work user account when I switch to my personal account. Any ideas?

  • Fast user switching animation not working on new iMac with 10.9.1

I have a late 2013 iMac with the GeForce GTX 780M, pre-installed with 10.9 and then immediately updated to 10.9.1 out of the box.
I imported my adminstrator account from an older iMac with Mountain Lion, using Migration Assistant. No problems experienced there whatsoever. I then separately imported a second user account from the same Mountain Lion install. Both accounts are functioning normally.
However, when I switch between these accounts, the fast user switching animation (rotating cube) does not occur - it just instantly switches screens, without even a fade in/out effect.
I made sure the display settings on each account are identical down to the last detail, even the same color sync profiles. I also created a fresh 'test' user account with default Mavericks settings, yet switching to that from either of the imported accounts does not have the animation either.
Any suggestions on how to trouble-shoot this? I have 'Googled' it, but all the refrences are from earlier version of OS X from 2003-2009 and mention things like not having enough graphical processing power - obviously not an issue here.

I tried (on both user accounts):
    1. Flushing all the caches using Onyx
    2. Deleting the 'com.apple.desktop.plist' files.
    3. Switching each user account to non-standard resolutions and back again.
The lack of the rotating cube effect is not the worst of it, as about 50% of the time I switch accounts I get an 'empty' desktop in the account I have just switched to, and I can only get the desktop icons to appear again by switching back and forth a few times. Extremely frustrating.
I am starting to think this is yet another bug in Mavericks or a problem with the graphic drivers for the new GTX 775 / 780 cards.

  • Shared Disk - can't connect with Fast User Switching

    Hi,
I've created a Disk on my Time Capsule, and shared it via "File Sharing", it's secured "with a disk password", and is working well ... sort of. I can connect to it with no issues, and so can my wife via her MacBook Pro. However, if I'm signed into my account, and she accesses her account using Fast User Switching, she can't connect to the shared volume. She has to Disconnect, and then reauthenticate, and after doing so, I can't connect to the shared volume. I must Disconnect, and reconnect. Why is this? Is there an authentication file that's set up some where on the root of the shared computer, that's preventing us from being able to signin to the shared volume? Or is something broken?
    Thanks!

Complete uninstallation and reinstallation of network adapter drivers has been reported to resolve this error in some cases. Open
Device Manager and select Show Hidden Devices from the
View menu. Expand the Network Adapters category and delete all drivers under this category. After the devices are removed right click and select
    Scan for hardware changes.

  • 'Slow' User Switching

On my new MacBook, I've noticed that after I click to switch user accounts (using fast user switching) and enter the password, I often, but not always, have a delay up to 5 seconds or more before it actually switches. I haven't had this problem on any other machine.
Anyone know what might cause this?

I have a Mac Pro and I'm seeing the same thing.
At first I didn't think my new computer was "tuned" properly.
Now sometimes I'm thinking my Dual G5 was faster.
    Say it aint so.
I did re-install the OS, but my problems still persist.

  • Question re: JDS/gnome/X and running smc as another user

Running Solaris 10 on Sun VirtualBox, have one user account in 'Staff' where I want to administer some aspects of my system for the time being as part of best practice for administration. I login to my user account, open a terminal, su - root and then run smc&. I get an error in the terminal window about DISPLAY environtment variable not being set. echo $DISPLAY reveals that it is null, so I export DISPLAY=hostname:0 and then try to run again and I still get the message. I am able to execute smc& from the shell prompt if I am logged into the root session. The only change I have made to the system operations at this point was to move /export/home to a different disk/slice and that mounts fine so and should not have caused an error anyway. If I execute xauth as root and list I get something like this:
    hostname:0 {encryption type} {RANDOM}
hostname/unix:0 {encryption standard} {RANDOM}This is to say it would appear to be that this is set correctly. [This example|http://docsun.cites.uiuc.edu/sun_docs/C/solaris_9/SUNWabe/ADVOSUG/p33.html#NETWORKAPP-88347] leads me to believe that a null DISPLAY should still allow programs to process by the Xserver/gnome .
    My question then is:
    - How can I run smc from another users session or must I log into a session as root?
    - If DISPLAY is incorrectly set, how can I configure my system to create accounts with the correct settings?
I should note that *xhost +*, while it disables the access control, has no affect on the outcome of executing smc&.

  • VI runs from one account but gives an error 37 from another account

I'm still running LabView 5.0 on a Solaris Server, 2.8.  This is really weird.  I have
a VI that will run just fine under my account, but another user tries to run the same
VI and gets an error 37, device not found.  We are using NI Serial Port Init.vi and when
I run it from my account which is unprivilege without using sudo, no errors, but when
this user runs its, error 37 occurs.  Any reason why this happens?  It sounds like a
permission problem, but I do not know where to look.  Suggestions welcomed.
    Thanks,
    Jay

Hey guys, I found the answer in this post.  I guess I did not look hard enough before I posted.  Sorry.
In the .labviewrc file make sure this line is included.
    labview.serialDevices:/dev/ttya:/dev/ttyb: . . . .
This sets ttya as port 0 , ttyb as port 1 etc etc.
You may have them set as root but not as a regular user.
Also for Solaris 2 , Labview expects the ports to be /dev/cua/a , /dev/cua/b ,
    etc etc.
You may need to change / add those links. ( I am a labview programmer not a
    Sys Admin !!)
Make sure that the line in the .labviewrc matches what ever these are set to.
Note that the first dev listed will be port 0, the next port 1 etc. so you can
    set them in any
    order that you wish.
    Hope this helps,
    Kevin Kent

    Welcome to the Apple community.
iTunes and iCloud and different accounts, you will need to delete both accounts from your device before adding the new details in their place.
For iCloud go to settings > iCloud, scroll down and hit the delete button. You can then sign back in using your correct details. For iTunes go to settings >store, tap your account ID and then sign out, you can then sign back in using your correct Apple ID.

Any clue, how i can add a mail account to apple mail app, but with separate password / pin to open it.
Years ago there was a program called mail switcher which added this functionality, but thats gone.
    cheers
    Tom

They would have to be logged in as separate users in order not to see your account in Mail. Whatever accounts put in Mail under your account will show up. All mail accounts usually have there own user and password. The only thing you can do is to remove the password from Keychain and take the account offline so you don't keep getting prompts for passwords each time it checks for mail.
    Not a great solution.
Best way is to give the other user their own user account with their own mail and enable fast user swithcing to log between the different users if all access the computer frequently.

  • I am not able to access Firefox under one user account on my computer so I created another account. How can I transfer the bookmarks from the old account?

I use windows Vista and I cannot open Firefox under one user account (I keep receiving the "firefox profile cannot be loaded . . ." error message) on my computer so I created another account. How can I transfer the bookmarks from the old account?

NOTE: you can skip this 1st step.
    Step 1
I'm on Win7 so the paths might be slightly different... C:\Users\(YOUR PC ACCOUNT)\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\bnelgkol.default\bookmarkbackups ... Find the "bookmarks-[DATE].json" you want and copy it to the profile you want. You may want to change the date to a name you will recognize.
    Step 2
Then on your browser "Bookmarks>Show All Bookmarks or Ctrl+Shift+B ". This will bring up the Bookmark Organizer, I think they call it Library now. From there click "Import & Back up>Restore" this will bring up a drop down with your back ups. If you followed step 1, find the json you added and select it. If you skipped step 1, from "Import & Back up>Restore" select "Choose File..." Then browser for the json you want to import. Which should be in a similar location as mentioned in step 1.
NOTE: "AppData" is a hidden folder, will have to set show hidden folders to be able to see it.
