Running apps with windows vm instead of Java

I want to run some chess databases that will not run on Java 2 because of class format error, "illegal use of non virtual function call" the sun site says these will just not run with java 2. If i go to internet explorer tools, advanced and disable java 2, reboot, and allow the window vm to run the applets they work fine. Is there a way to run the java 2 routinely, but switch to windows vm while online, WITHOUT having to reboot the computer to activate the new settings?

It should not be necessary to reboot. Simply closing the browser does the trick for me at least. I am using Windows 2000.

    itunes won't recognize/play/import any cd i put in the drive. I am also running paralells with windows 7 and have disabled media player. any suggestions?

    I have the same problem.
    On launch itunes works fine.
    If I let it play through a full album of songs unatended, when I return it respondes, but will not play music. I can browse my collection, but when i click the play button, press the space bar with a track selected or double cclick a track it will not play. A restart of iTunes solves the problem temporarily.

    How can I run MP350 with Windows 8.1 computer?
    It works OK with Windows 7 machine, using drivers from original CD.
    Windows 8,1 machine doesn't find those drivers (which I copied to its C drive).
    It doesn't find needed drivers on the internet.

  • Running parallels with windows xp. want to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2013, but it will not recognize the disc.  Help!

    running parallels with windows xp and OS X Lion.  Trying to upgrade my Quickbooks on the windows side to the new 2013 version.  The windows side does not even recognize the disc.  What am I doing wrong?

    S that QB edition is only for windows 8. It won't run on any earlier version of windows.
    Looking at the QB 2013 system requirement it runs on XP.
    http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF21187
    So the version of windows is not your problem. Your problem is the virtual machine is not se to use the mac dvd drive. Have you looking into the machine settings. Not windows settings, the virtual machine settings. Make sure it is set to connect the mac dvd drive to the virtual machine.
    A good place to start would be the parallels help system. Not the windows help system.

  • Use to running apps on windows - how do i do it on aix??

    hi all -
    im running into issues with running my app locally on windows. it works fine most of the time but when i run my java app with this one particular file i get errors bc it looks for a path on an AIX box.
    i want to run my app on AIX now - do i need to create the jar on windows then upload it to aix and then run it???
    im stumped now. any suggestions
    thx in advance

    It depends what you mean by "it is looking for a path". If you mean that there is a hardcoded path in your code that is specific to your AIX box, then consider setting a system property in you run command that points to the appropriate path. Added something like
    -Dmyapp.path1=/path/to/files
    then using System.getProperty ("myapp.path1") will get you the path.

  • Run App with LAN IP Addesss problem

    Hi all,
    Well, i have a mobile app runing in my Jdev... when i run the app in mi local browser with "localhost" or "127.0.0.1" it runs without problems... but, if i want to acces the app with mi local lan ip address example "192.168.X.X" the browsers says "could not connect to 192.168.X.X:7101" ... and because of that i can't acces the app in my local network with mobile devices...
    anyone have any idea whats wrong ?
    regards
    Alberto Tapia
    Mexico

    If your problem occurs when you try to access the application from another computer, check if your computer has a firewall that does not allow TCP/IP connetions to port 7101 from other computers. (Hint: Disable Windows firewall and the firewall of the eventual anti-virus program and try again).
    Check also that the computers (or devices) where you try to access the application from have network access to your IP address.
    If you cannot access the application via the IP address even locally (at your computer), then check if the Embedded WLS is listening to all the IP addresses of your computer (if you have not modified it manually, it should be listening by default).

  • Can you run iTunes with Windows 98?

    I have a dell lap top I would like to use iTunes on but cant find a iTunes program for Windows 98. I want to use my iPod with the lap top.

    iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, either of which will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • T61 running hot with Windows 8

    I did a clean install of Windows 8, with the latest power manager driver (1.67.4.4). Now my T61(7661-E17) idles at 50C (balanced power plan), Windows Media Center pushes it over 70C. CoreTemp is used to display CPU temperature.
    Is any one else seeing this? This cannot be normal.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Thank you so much for your good advice. The temperatures may be normal after all.
    My T61 has T7300 with 3GB of RAM. the R61 has T7700 with 3GB of RAM. I personally put in the CPUs and applied paste late 2012. I don't think hardware is to blame, especially when both computers are hot.
    I did not pay much attention to CPU temperature when I first installed Windows 8. Last November my R61 started crashing with live TV, that was when I noticed it was running at 70C. It turned out R61 can easily handle 70C, so I thought Hauppauge tuner was overheating, but was told yesterday by Hauppauge support that their tuner worked fine with Windows 8 and 8.1. Finally today I realized that it is the driver for SoundBlaster 5.1 surround sound pro that is causing R61 to crash. I switched to the driver included with Windows 8, from Microsoft, and it appears to be running fine.
    My problem is solved. Thanks again for the help.

  • Anyone here use the nike+ running app with the ipod touch?

    i just got the new ipod touch 5g and wanted to get the nike+ running app because it's free, the alternate would be nike+ sensor is $20 extra.
    so i wanted to know:
    1. how accurate the nike+ running app is in term of recording distance? since i don't have the iphone i wont be able to use the gps function and im not sure if that'll be affecting the distance measurement.
    2. how accurate is the speed tracker? same as above, since the ipod doesn't have a gps function.
    3. in the setting for the app, what does it mean to reset calibration?

    i just used it for the first time. it recorded that i ran for 2.5 miles, i went home and checked an online map and i only actually ran 2.03 miles. if i calibrate it, will my future runs be more accurate? also, what if one day i decide to run at a different pace or i walk a lot more, will this affect the distance recorded?

  • Syncing with Windows Live instead of Outlook?

    I use Windows 7, which uses Windows Live for it's email and calendar & contact programs.  I like it better than Outlook.  When is Apple going to allow syncing with Windows Live?  Right now you have 1 option only.  Outlook.

    Not sure, but if you set it up as an Exchange account it may support the syncing you're looking for.  See http://windowslivehelp.com/solution.aspx?solutionid=6ae4b9c2-1c01-4e9c-bdc5-12da 8728f4c2.

  • Access JAR File while running App with Java Web Start

    Hello guys,
    I want to delpoy my application so that I can run it when I click on the appropriate button in a web page.
    I have a Jar file for all the files that the app needs. No, not all of the files are included.
    Indeed, I use JAR files such jdom.jar or postgres...jar that I must use in within my application.
    How can I access these JAR files knowing that I can't point to files in a JAR file A from within a JAR file B, if the JAR file B contains the JAR file A?
    The main JAR file that I put on the web server can be seen as the JAR file B and the other JAR files must be stored somewhere for the java classes within the main JAR file to have access to them.
    I wonder whether there is another way to structure the project.
    Thanks.

    Hi Andrew.
    I have followed your suggestions and here is what my .jnlp file look like:
    <tt>
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="http://localhost:8080/koedops" href="beta.jnlp">
         <information>
              <title>KOEDOPS</title>
              <vendor>Pr. Fischer</vendor>
              <homepage href="http://localhost:8080/" />
              <description>Downloading koedops with Java Web Start</description>
         </information>
         <resources>
              <j2se version="1.6+" />
              <jar href="beta.jar" main="true"/>
              <jar href="jcalendar-1.3.3.jar" />
              <jar href="jdom.jar" />
              <jar href="postgresql-8.4-701.jdbc4.jar" />
         </resources>
         <application-desc main-class="general.Application" />
    </jnlp>
    </tt>
    The three other jar-files reside in the same directory as the .jnlp file and the beta.jar file on the tomcat server.
    When I launch the application though nothing happens upon the download. In contrast, if I change the main class to a class file that requires no extra library, it runs perfectly.
    I can't be sure whether the jar-files are successfully accessed.
    Regards.

  • Closing a Swing App with Window Closing Event With Dialogs On Close

    A while back I started a thread discussing how to neatly close a Swing app using both the standard window "X" button and a custom action such as a File menu with an Exit menu item. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that the cleanest solution in many cases is to use a default close operation of JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE and in any custom actions manually fire a WindowEvent with WindowEvent.WINDOW_CLOSING. Using this strategy, both the "X" button and the custom action act in the same manner and can be successfully intercepted by listening for a window closing event if any cleanup is required; furthermore, the cleanup could use dialogs to prompt for user actions without any ill effects.
    I did, however, encounter one oddity that I mentioned in the previous thread. A dialog launched through SwingUtilities.invokeLater in the cleanup method would cause the app to not shutdown. This is somewhat of an academic curiosity as I am not sure you would ever have a rational need to do this, but I thought it would be interesting to explore more fully. Here is a complete example that demonstrates; see what you think:
    import java.awt.event.ActionEvent;
    import java.awt.event.ActionListener;
    import java.awt.event.WindowAdapter;
    import java.awt.event.WindowEvent;
    import javax.swing.BoxLayout;
    import javax.swing.JButton;
    import javax.swing.JFrame;
    import javax.swing.JOptionPane;
    import javax.swing.JPanel;
    import javax.swing.SwingUtilities;
    public class CloseByWindowClosingTest {
         public static void main(String[] args) {
              SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                   public void run() {
                        launchGUI();
         private static void launchGUI() {
              final JFrame frame = new JFrame("Close By Window Closing Test");
              JPanel panel = new JPanel();
              panel.setLayout(new BoxLayout(panel, BoxLayout.Y_AXIS));
              JButton button1 = new JButton("No Dialog Close");
              JButton button2 = new JButton("Dialog On Close");
              JButton button3 = new JButton("Invoke Later Dialog On Close");
              button1.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        postWindowClosingEvent(frame);
              button2.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame, "Test Dialog");
                        postWindowClosingEvent(frame);
              button3.addActionListener(new ActionListener() {
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) {
                        SwingUtilities.invokeLater(new Runnable() {
                             public void run() {
                                  JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(frame, "Test Dialog");
                        postWindowClosingEvent(frame);
              panel.add(button1);
              panel.add(button2);
              panel.add(button3);
              frame.setContentPane(panel);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setLocationRelativeTo(null);
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              frame.addWindowListener(new WindowAdapter() {
                   @Override
                   public void windowClosing(WindowEvent event) {
                        System.out.println("Received Window Closing Event");
              frame.setVisible(true);
         private static void postWindowClosingEvent(JFrame frame) {
              WindowEvent windowClosingEvent = new WindowEvent(frame, WindowEvent.WINDOW_CLOSING);
              frame.getToolkit().getSystemEventQueue().postEvent(windowClosingEvent);
    }An additional note not in the example -- if in the button 3 scenario you were to put the window closing event posting inside the invoke later, the app then again closes. However, as implemented, what is it that causes button 3 to not result in the application closing?
    Edited by: Skotty on Aug 11, 2009 5:08 PM -- Modified example code -- added the WindowAdapter to the frame as a window listener to show which buttons cause listeners to receive the window closing event.

    I'm not sure I understand why any "cleanup" code would need to use SwingUtilities.invokeLater() to do anything. Assuming this "cleanup method" was called in response to a WindowEvent, it's already being called on the EDT.
    IIRC, my approach to this "problem" was to set the JFrame to DO_NOTHING_ON_CLOSE. I create a "doExit()" method that does any cleanup and exits the application (and possibly allows the user to cancel the app closing, if so desired). Then I create a WindowListener that calls doExit() on windowClosingEvents, and have my "exit action" call doExit() as well. Seems to work fine for me.

    It crashed 3 seconds after it is running. Should be reading some jar file.
    Could be a something corrupted a zip file or something. Can you still do a java -version? You may want to try reinstalling 1.4.2_07

  • MacBook runs hot with Windows 7

    I have one application that runs in Windows so I loaded Windows 7 using Bootcamp on my MacBook. The problem is the processor temp rises, even when setting idle with only the Windows desktop. When I start and use the application (MediaShout) it gets even hotter. I don't know the actual temp, however, I can tell it is quite hot and the fan progressively winds up.
    Any thoughts?

    Try running on battery and in Win7 switch power options to balanced vs performance. Do this first when launching Win7 ... do NOT allow this app to auto start when windows starts. Lastly see if the fans remain idle.
    Also:
    Boot camp or vm?
    any other apps or services running in os x while using win7?

  • Run app with Class Files from JBuilder

    Hi,
    I have Java class files (at this point no java source code/files).
    How can I run the application from JBuilder with these class files.

    Thank you Annie.
    I want to run JBuilder in debug mode.
    Basically my application connects to the Sybase db. It will get some data from tables. But when I am running my app in debug mode ... I am hoping that it will show me the data. I dont see any data from the db tables.
    Do I need to setup anything else to see what data it is selecting through JBuilder
