Running Appserver 9.1 with 256mb ram?

Hi there,
i tried to install the Appserver 9.1 on a machine with only 256mb ram. I think thats the cause why starting the server results in:
Error occurred during initialization of VM
Could not reserve enough space for object heap
Could not create the Java virtual machine.Is there somewhere an option to set the heapsize down, so that the server can start?
(I know that the minimum requirement is 512mb ram, but performance doesn't matter in this case)

You will need an OS 9.1 or higher full installer CD. You may find them on eBay or at FastMac.com. Be sure to get a full retail installer CD, not an upgrade disc.
You can install OS 9 directly on the hard drive without disturbing your OS X installation. Just be careful to avoid any alerts from the installer asking to format or check the hard drive. If you see such alerts (and you will) during installation simply skip or cancel them.
Now, your hard drive must have been formatted with the Install Mac OS Drivers option checked when you partitioned the drive if you want to boot OS 9 directly. This is not required to use Classic from OS X.

  • Has anyone tried running Logic Pro X with a RAM disk?

    I Have been reading about the possible benefits of using a Ramdisk (created in terminal, or as a startup AppleScript). Would I see any benefits running LPX straight from RAM? I realize that I would have to save periodically to alternate locations on my SSD or HDR, but would I be flirting with disaster by working this way?..

    The Fishman Triple Play is simply the best hardware option to date for triggering external MIDI whether hardware sound modules or software instruments.
    Having used many MIDI guitar converters since '89, I can say that the FTP tracking is very accurate and velocity dynamics are reasonably wide from soft to loud.
    The Triple Play app works in Stand Alone mode in OSX 10.7.5 but not in 10.8.3.
    In 10.8.3, you load the Fishman Triple Play plug-into into the I/O of a software instrument track.  Open the app and adjust sensitivity, mono vs poly, transposition down or up an  octave, etc.  Save your set ups as presets which can be scrolled through with the D-Pad control on the converter.
    While the GR-55 is an amazing all-in-one solution in a small, light weight package (in relation to the bulk and weight of several actual guitars, basses, amps, fx, etc), it is a poor choice for triggering external sound sources.  Whereas I can play "bass" lines on the open E and A strings with my now obsolete Roland GI-20 and RMC piezo equipped guitar without any sense of latency, the GR-55 latency was simply intolerable.  Of course one could revert to the old strategy of playing parts an octave higher on the fret board to increase speed and accuracy of tracking. But what about playing "piano" with  fretted triads against the open E or A strings???
    Think I'm full of hot air?  Skim through this: http://www.joness.com/gr300/MIDI_SPEED.htm
    I traded my GR-55 towards a JTV-59.
    Once set up, you're gonna love the FTP.  As I mostly sequence MIDI in Logic, being wireless is incredibly convenient.

    Good Day! Here's my story. Hope y'all can help!
    Old MAC iBook, 900MHz G3, 10.2.8, 384mb ram
    Download of Firefox update 3.6.15 will not open
    Download is visible on desktop but will not initiate
    Clicking on download causes it to attempt opening but ceases opening
    I had the same issue when I tried to update to 3.5.3 a while back
    Currently running Firefox 2.0.0.20 and I get daily warnings and suggestions to update - naturally.
    Thanks for your help, in advance!

    Firefox 3.6.15 requires at least OS X 10.4, the last version of Firefox that runs on OS X 10.2.8 is Firefox 2.0.0.20

  • How slow would Tiger be on a 1.25 PPC mini with 256Mb of ram?

    My Bother just bought a used PPC mini with 256Mb and OSX 10.3.9. Performance is actually pretty good. He wants to update to Tiger. What kind of performance can he expect with so little ram? I've actually been putting of Tiger because I thought 512mb would be a little light on ram.
    233mhz Blondi 10.3.7 256MB ram,1.42 Ghz mini 512MB   Mac OS X (10.3.7)

    On balance, if money were to be spent on the system, it would gain more substantial benefits from an upgrade of RAM from 256 to 512 and retaining Panther than from retaining the existing RAM and updating to Tiger, but to give the issue some context, benchmarks published at the time of Tiger's release showed that in most respects Tiger was marginally slower than Panther had been, but that in user interface activities, it was written to be somewhat faster. The result being that the user would tend to experience what seemed to be faster performance from Tiger than Panther.
    The footprint of the two operating systems is pretty much the same (meaning the demands they make on system resources, RAM etc) so the benchmarking would suggest that even on a 1.25 mini with 256Mb RAM, the upgrade to Tiger would give a marginally better (perceived) performance level.
    In fact my tests at the time with my test system (a G4 800 iMac with 256Mb RAM) tended to support that expectation. The system felt like it had had a slight speed boost, and has remained slightly more responsive and generally reasonably well behaved. As such, an update to Tiger would be a good thing, though I would not say the benefit warrants the retail price in a situation such as this.
    If it's decided to update to Tiger, it would be advised to disable all non-essential widgets in Dashboard, just to save them from taking RAM, but this isn't necessary. Overall, Tiger will run pretty well even in 256Mb, as long as it is not expected to support multiple open applications without slowing down.

  • Aperture 3.0.1 Crashing...iMac I7 with 8GB RAM

    I upgraded from Aperture 2.0 to v3.0, and then today to v3.0.1. The version is crashing every few minutes. The previous v2.0 was very stable. The software is running on iMac I7 with 8GB RAM. This is one of the worst software I have ever used. Apple should be ashamed of launching a buggy product.
    Any suggestions? Thanks.

    I'm not familiar with this particular plug-in (I don't even use Smugmug), so please take this as a general comment.
    It's not uncommon for older plug-ins to crash newer versions of the application for which they were originally written. They might partially work, but when you carry out a particular action, they'll cause unexpected behaviour. This is because, for example, assumptions made about the host application when the plug-ins were written are no longer valid with the new version comes out and conflicts arise. It's been 'common' with third-party plug-ins for Safari in the past.
    - +"This new version of Safari is buggy rubbish!!!"+
    - +"No it's not - it's your (now) old plug-ins!!!"+
    Once identified, the solution is usually to uninstall the offending plug-in and wait for the author/publisher to release an updated version.
    The best way to rule out the possibility of the plugin being at fault is to remove it temporarily. The first step is to Quit from your host application - Aperture in this case. The second step is to go to the plug-ins folder(s) and remove anything in there. To ease reinstalling a plugin in case it's found to be innocent, you could, for example, drag it out to the desktop - rather than deleting it. It can then be dragged back in later on. The path is
          /Users/ your-home-directory /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins
    There might also be plug-ins installed at the global equivalent folder:
          /Library/Application Support/Aperture/Plug-Ins
    Of course, sometimes you can get multiple problems and solving one might still leave other +undesirable behaviour+ occurring and requiring further trouble-shooting.
    Hope this helps...

  • Running iTunes7 on a 800Mhz iMac G4 (256mb Ram)

    Hi,
    i have an iMac G4 Flat panel (800Mhz-256mb Ram) and after hearing some people complaining on these boards of not being able to run iTunes7 properly on macs with a similar spec as mine i have decided for the time being not to upgrade from iTunes6.
    Is there anyone on here who is running iTunes7 successfully with less than a 1Ghz. What limitations can i expect from iTunes7 on my iMac.
    Thanks

    I'm sure you will benefit by adding more RAM.
    It will decrease disk access, which slows down the system.
    About Cover Flow:
    The first time I used it, it behaved rather slow and jerky.
    Of course iTunes had to get all the artwork from the song files, which meant a lot of disk activity.
    iTunes then stores the albumart in .itc files in ./Users/Username/Music/iTunes/album artwork/Local.
    I guess this is done for faster access of the pictures.
    The next time, I slowly flipped through Cover Flow to enable iTunes to pick up all artwork.
    This morning, when I ran iTunes, and browsed through Cover Flow, it behaved somehow jerky (a lot of disk access), but after that it worked rather smooth.
    I could only hear occasional disk access, so iTunes must have stored most pictures in RAM.
    One more thing. I recently replaced the HD by a larger and faster one (200 GB Maxtor) which also speeds things up (reading/writing at least twice as fast than the 'old' drive). That also helps a bit.
    Long story short:
    Add more RAM. I'm sure you will not be disappointed by that investment.

  • Successful install of 8.1.7 on Solaris 8 with more than 256Mb RAM

    To all who have struggled with this one, like me. You owe me a bottle of Rogaine.... but I will accept a bottle of Jack instead.
    It appears that the kernel parameters published in the Install Guide are only good for Solaris 8 with up to 256Mb RAM
    If dbassist craters at around 80% in OUI with a "Can't connect to Oracle" and you have more than 256Mb on board
    DOUBLE the kernel parameters !!!
    shmmni = 200
    shmseg = 20
    semmns = 400
    semmni = 200
    semmls =200
    semopm =200
    touch /reconfigure (they don't mention that in the Guide)
    reboot
    If someone out there can isolate which actual damn kernel parameter is the culprit, I will gladly share some Jack with you.
    Otherwise an email to [email protected] with a comment or three will suffice.
    Cheers

    Sorry to ask a dumb question, but want to be precise, whn you say touch/reconfigure, do you mean touch system.
    WHat is the reconfigure?

  • Will my MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz with 4GB Ram run Mountain Lion?

    Hi everyone. I have a MacBookPro3,1 Intel Core 2 Duo, 2.4 GHz with 4GB Ram — will it run Mountain Lion? My hard drive has 615 Gigs of free space. If so, is it worth it for me to upgrade? Will all the new features be available to me. Presently I am running Mac OS X Lion 10.7.4 (11E53). I heard that there is an update 8.1 out there with developers as of yesterday.
    Thanks.

    Hi John.
    Yes, an erase and install sounds like a good idea. I just need to check my Adobe CS5 software to see if I need to upgrade the suite. If that is the case, then I may need to put it off for a bit. Thanks so much for your help.
    I have a newer MacBook Pro at work, but usually wait to upgrade it, till I've been running it at home on my personal computer for a while. Would hate for it to mess up my production schedule.
    Thanks again and have a good evening.

  • What version of LR should I choose to run it on a 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM)

    As it says in the title: I want to run LR on my 2008 macbook pro OS 10.5 (updated with 8GB RAM). Adobe support told me that it would not be a problem, yet i'm confronted with a com.apple.installer.pagecontroller error -1. I have no idea what it is or how to solve it.
    Can you please help me? Thank you.

    You will not be able to use a LR 5 key on an older LR. While an intermediate version of OS X may be easier on your system and may allow a newer version of LR than LR3, if it is not current you still have to get that old version of LR from an alternate channel.
    If you have an easy way to clone your system I would try upgrade you Yosemite and putting LR 5 on it since you have a key. If it doesn't perform to your satisfaction you can always clone back to 10.5 and seek an alternate solution.
    However, was the LR 5 key owned by your previous job along with that other laptop? If so, it violates the license for you to use it.

  • Can my 600MHz P-3, 256MB Ram handle a data acquisition of more than 1kHz with waveform chart support?

    please suggest tools for acquiring high speed 8 analog channel data.
    can my 600MHz P-3, 256MB Ram handle a data acquisition of more than 1kHz with waveform chart support?

    Arun,
    I have performed data acquisition on a computer with lower specs than the one you described, at rates greater than 1 kHz. I don't quite understand the "waveform chart support" portion of your question, but if you are asking if it is possible to plot the acquired data on a Waveform Chart in LabVIEW, this should not be a problem.

    Aperture is a hardware-intensive heavy graphics app. It has been proven to "run" on any MacIntel with minimum 2 GB RAM, but performance will be stronger as one goes up the hardware scale from the Mini, which is lowest end. For limited usage a Mini should be fine, but for heavy pro usage stronger boxes are recommended. The issues are not so much processor but hard drives, GPU, RAM, etc.

  • Any suggestions, or fixes, as to why I have to rebuild my library after EVERY shutdown? I am running the latest 10.6, 2.92 ghz iMac core 2 duo, with 4gb ram.

    Any suggestions, or fixes, as to why I have to rebuild my library after EVERY shutdown? I am running the latest 10.6, 2.92 ghz iMac core 2 duo, with 4gb ram. Install went well, as far as I know. No other problems. I fear, that unless I fix this, when I upgrade to a new computer, I will be taking the same problem with me.

    So if you start Aperture do some stuff in it, quit, then open Aperture again it starts up OK but if you then quit Aperture, reboot your machine and start Aperture it stalls?
    You're internal drive is getting close to being overfull your at about what 18.5% free space (some we'll say it's already overfull). You might what to think about freeing up space. If you weren't having any troubles I'd say it was fine but as you are experiencing problems it is something to look at.
    While its been doing the processing have you been able to open the activity window in Aperture? If you click on the spinnig gear (not the beachball)  when Aperture is busy you can usually get the activity window to open.
    Other then that not sure what else to recommend at this point.
