Running commands across global and non-global zones

Other than using ssh and public key access, is there better way to run a command in both the global and non-global zone? I need to disable some services (svcadm disable ... ) in both the global and non-global zones.
Thanks,
Roger S.

You can run commands in the non-global zone with the "zlogin" command from the global zone.
Running commands in a non-global zone from a non global zone works only with ssh, (or any other method using network)

  • Route between global and non-global zones

    Hi Folks,
    I haven't been able to find an answer to this question searching the archives, so I'll try here. My global zone gets her IP (10.153.197.n) via DHCP, and I've had to use 192.168.1.n addresses for the non global zones. Is there a simple route statement I can issue to allow communication between the global and non global zones? I'm running Solaris 10 x86 03/2005.
    Thanks very much,
    -Adam vonNieda

    If you're only interested in passing traffic between the global zone and the non-global zones, just add a virtual interface to the global zone.
    For example, in the global zone:
    ifconfig ce0:4 plumb 192.168.1.x netmask + broadcast + up
    Then you will be able to pass traffic between the global and non-global zones.
    If you're looking for the global zone to proxy traffic between the non-global zones and the rest of the network, take a look at http://balance.sf.net

  • Zfs package difference in Global and Non-Global zones

    I have a T2000 hosting many zones. The Global zone and all but one Non-Global zone has 3 zfs packages installed SUNWzfskr, SUNWzfsr, SUNWzfsu). Becuase this one non-global zone is missing the zfs packages, kernel patch 120011-14 also didn't install on that single non-global zone.
    I am curious, can i install SUNWzfskr, SUNWzfsr, SUNWzfsu on the non-global zone that is missing the packages?
    Any ideas how to resolve the kernel patch descrepancy between the global and non-global zone?

    patch 122640-05 installs the SUNWzfskr SUNWzfsr SUNWzfsu packages if they are not already installed on the system.

  • Lucreate and non-global zones

    Hi - I'm trying to get my head around Live Upgrades now that I've switched to ZFS on Solaris 10 for our test servers. The problem I have is we have a number of non-global zones and when I ran the lucreate command I get a number of warnings:

    So ALL my non-global zones live under /export/zones/<zonename> - what do all the WARNINGS mean?
    I then applied the Oracle CPU, activated the ABE and shutdown the server. When it came back up non of the zones would start and this seems to be because now all the zonepaths and references to the zones are labelled with CPU_2012-07 on the end. Now I can edit the zone xml files to fix this but am sure this is not the recommended method and something I would prefer not to do.
    So basically I think I have not set my ZFS resource pools up correctly to take into account my non-global zones and where I have created them.
    My zfs list output looks like this now, unfortunately I don't have the output prior to me starting this work:

    OK, so been tinkering with this. I'm not sure this is my exact problem but a few people have reported issues with the following package:
    121430-xx
    In that it gives the exact same WARNINGS when trying to create an ABE via lucreate and you have non-global zones. So one of the suggestions was to go back to an earlier version of this patch and then someone said it was fixed in version 71 of the patch. So I installed the very latest version 121430-81 and now it fails with a different error. Fortunately this time I have a screen shot of the before and after:

  • Lsof and non-global zones

    Hi - wonder if someone could help with an issue I'm trying to troubleshoot. I have a number of T2000 servers all running multiple zones and at peak periods I'm seeing issues with a particular application access a plain text log file. The server although busy is coping well and not particularly loaded. I've wondered if I'm hitting some sort of open file limit on the server but am unsure on how to check this. I can see that ulimit -n reports 256.
    I've also been trying to use lsof to see what open files an application has but this doesn't appear to work when logged into the non-global zone, all I get is:
    lsof -p 5508
    lsof-5.10: can't read namelist from /dev/ksyms
    If I run the same command on the global zone I can see various output about the zone but non relate to the applications log file which is currently being written to.
    Does anyone have any ideas on how to do this or what else I could check?
    Thanks - Julian.

    For security/isolation reasons, /dev/ksyms is not presented to zones. You must run your lsof commands at the global zone. Sorry.

  • PHP in Solaris 10 and Non-Global Zones: Problem of performance?

    Hi friends
    We are feeling a poor performance with applications developed with PHP in Solaris 10, with non-global and global zones, while Intel platform (Xeon and Pentium), performance is very good. Difference between both platforms is about 200% aprox, one second in Intel to 9, 12 or 20 seconds in Solaris depending of model.
    Our tests were developed in:
    1. SF T2000 server Solaris 10 global zone
    2. SF T2000 server Solaris 10 non-global zone

    Questions:
    Is there any problem of PHP with SunFire T2000 servers or 64-bits platforms?
    Is there any flag of PHP would be use to compilarion PHP in 64-bits or multithread?
    I wait for any comments or suggestions about our problem with PHP compilation and performance in Solaris 10. Thanks a lot.
    Sergio.

    I presume you compiled php on the Sun server, was this done using gcc or the Sun One C compiler.
    If the latter then you can also use the flag: --enable-nonportable-atomics when you run configure

  • NFS and non global zones

    Hi,
    Ive read numerous threads about mounting NFS shares to non global zones but have still not been able to successfully resolve my issue.
    I have 5 T3-2's which are being used as standalone SAP servers running Solaris 10u9 and numerous sparse non global zones. Basically I have a 1Tb HDS LUN presented to 1 T3-2 and have NFS shared this out as /stage to the remaining 4 global zones which works as expected.
    However I am unable to mount the shared NFS filesystem to the non global zones.
    When I try to mount the NFS share from the non global zone itself I receive RPC errors, I have also tried configuring the non global zone with the NFS mount (from the global zone) as lofs but the zone wont boot and also manually mounting the NFS mount from the global zone which looks like it works but when I do a df on the non global zone I receive stat erros.
    Ive even tried linking the NFS share on the global zone to the non global zone directory but that produces a strange linkage when the zone is booted.
    Numerous threads say this is not supported but I cant believe Oracle after ~6/7 years of zones and numerous threads on the subject wouldnt have resolved this issue.
    I could easily locally mount the storage locally and lofs it to the non global zone but unfortunately dont have the storage capacity available which is why I thought NFS mounting to the non global zone would work!!
    Any suggestions would be gratefully received!
    Thanks.

    If you are trying to mount NFS file system on non-global zone from global zone of the same server, use lofs instead.
    You can mount the same file system to all non-global zones using lofs and all non-global zones have read/write access to it.
    If it is global zone of some other server then you can use NFS. But before that check the way it is exported on NFS server whether the client from which you are trying to mount it has permissions to do so.

  • Userdel command is missing in non-global zone

    Hi,
    I am trying to remove a user account in one of the non-global zone. But the 'userdel' command is missing in the system. This system is non-global zone. I am able to remove the same account in other non-global zone. Please find the system details:
    root@mars # uname -a
    SunOS mars 5.9 Generic_Virtual sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Fire
    Can you please let me know which package i have to install in this box to perform user admin activity.
    Thanks,
    Ram.

    Hi.
    Not.
    df -h swap - will show how many total swap now available on whole system.
    For check limit you can use for example:
    prctl -n zone.max-swap -i process $$
    Regards.

  • NPiV and non-local zones

    In this PDF from emulex, it talks about how Emulex HBAs can be used to configure NPiV WWNs for Solaris non-global zones.
    http://www.emulex.com/artifacts/ddf25e8c-1d8e-456f-96ff-21a5353a9d59/solaris10-6.pdf
    I have yet to find any detailed information about how to go about doing this. What I'd like to do, is to configure virtual WWNs for each zone, and then assign FC devices directly to the zone, not to the global zone.
    Why am I trying to do this? Because currently, all SCSI inquiry ioctls are blocked for devices. I'm trying to determine if inquiry information is available if the FC device is presented directly to the non-global zone.

  • How to run commands like "ipconfig" and get the output in adobe AIR in windows?

    import flash.desktop.NativeProcess;
    import flash.desktop.NativeProcessStartupInfo;
    if (NativeProcess.isSupported) {
         var npsi:NativeProcessStartupInfo = new NativeProcessStartupInfo();
         var processpath:File = File.applicationDirectory.resolvePath("MyApplication.whatever");
         var process:NativeProcess = new NativeProcess();
         npsi.executable = processpath;
         process.start(npsi);
    The above can only run a sub-application, but how to run an independent  application(command) like ipconfig and get the result?

    Hi,
    here is an example of running a net Use command line from AIR, unig the new NativeProcess. Hope it will help !
    function launchProcess()
      var file = air.File.applicationDirectory;
      // set command path
      file = file.resolvePath("C:/Windows/system32/net.exe");
      var nativeProcessStartupInfo = new air.NativeProcessStartupInfo();
      nativeProcessStartupInfo.executable = file;
      // prepare command parameters
      var args = new runtime.Vector["<String>"]();
      args.push('USE');
      args.push('W:');
      args.push('/delete');
      args.push('/y');
      // set arguments
      nativeProcessStartupInfo.arguments = args;
      // add listeners to catch command outputs
      process.addEventListener(air.ProgressEvent.STANDARD_OUTPUT_DATA, onOutputData);
      process.addEventListener(air.ProgressEvent.STANDARD_ERROR_DATA, onErrorData);
      process.addEventListener(air.NativeProcessExitEvent.EXIT, onExit);
      // create and run Native process
      process = new air.NativeProcess();
      process.start(nativeProcessStartupInfo);
    function onOutputData(ProgressEvent)
      var processResults = process.standardOutput.readUTFBytes(process.standardOutput.bytesAvailable);
      air.trace("Results: \n" + processResults);
    function onErrorData(ProgressEvent)
      var processResults = process.standardError.readUTFBytes(process.standardError.bytesAvailable);
      if(processResults.search('password') > -1){
        window.alert('Bad password');
      air.trace("Errors: \n" + processResults);
    function onExit(NativeProcessExitEvent)
      air.trace("Process ended with code: " + NativeProcessExitEvent.exitCode);

  • Flex Bug? s|global and mx|global conflict with eachother!

    I'm trying to set a global font in my application. I've defined some CSS as follows:
    /* CSS file */
    @namespace s "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark";
    @namespace mx "library://ns.adobe.com/flex/mx";
    @font-face {
         src: url('fonts/daxRegular.ttf');
         fontFamily: Dax;
         embedAsCFF: true;
    @font-face {
         src: url('fonts/daxMedium.ttf');
         fontFamily: Dax;
         fontWeight: bold;
         embedAsCFF: true;
    @font-face {
         src: url('fonts/daxRegular.ttf');
         fontFamily: DaxNoCFF;
         embedAsCFF: false;
    @font-face {
         src: url('fonts/daxMedium.ttf');
         fontFamily: DaxNoCFF;
         fontWeight: bold;
         embedAsCFF: false;
    s|global {
         font-family: Dax;
    mx|global {
         font-family: DaxNoCFF;
    So by rights all the Spark components receive the Dax font that has embedAsCFF set to true, and MX with embedAsCFF set to false. However all the Spark components, including those in the main application (Spark) are returning errors as follows:
    warning: incompatible embedded font 'DaxNoCFF' specified for spark.components::Label (Label6) . This component requires that the embedded font be declared with embedAsCff=true.
    This warning makes no sense since I've specified s|global to use Dax which has embedAsCFF set to true. The MX components are using the Dax font as expected but Spark is defaulting to Times New Roman.
    Does anyone know why this is happening? Thanks in advance.

    Bit surprised no one from Adobe has responded...
    The fix I found is to enable "Use Flash Text Engine in MX components" in the Flex Compiler and only specify "s|global" as this appears to apply to MX components too. Enabling this option allows both Spark and MX components to use the embedded font.

  • The only app that will run is Google Chrome and non-internet using apps.

    My Droid is almost 2 years old and has been working perfectly.  I just received a notification that I would be eligible for an upgrade in May, along with contract renewal.  Three days later, my phone will NOT connect to any internet-based apps, such as: Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat, Imgur, LinkedIn, Pinterest, etc.  However, Google Chrome is working perfectly, with the exception of any "mobile-based" sites.  For example, I can log in to my Facebook account and browse as long as it is not the mobile version of the site.  Does anyone have any answers as to why this would be happening?  I haven't been able to locate any answers.  Thank you in advance!

        That's definitely strange, kzmidge. I want a working phone in your hands though. I noticed you mentioned you received the suggestion to complete a reset. Did you already do that? Is it working again? Are you receiving an error message?
    If you hesitated a little longer to complete the reset, you can try to place your phone into Safe Mode http://vz.to/rxg0ii and see if you can access mobile sites from your browser. This mode will stop 3rd party applications from running, so you won't be able to use the apps you mentioned but we may be able to narrow down the trouble in Safe Mode. If the mobile sites work, that means the trouble may be in a recently downloaded application and you may be able to avoid the reset my uninstalling some of your more recently installed applications. If it's still giving you trouble, the reset http://vz.to/18wzOCi is the next best step.

  • I have installed Switch Exec 2.1, running LabVIEW 8.2 and none of the VI's appear on my functions palette

    See Subject Line.
    Thanks
    Chris
    One should welcome adversity as an opportunity to excel.

    Hello Chris,
    I see that you are trying to get Switch Executive working in LabVIEW 8.2. Here are a couple of things that you should check:
    1) Check in the C:\Program Files\National Instruments\LabVIEW 8.2\vi.lib\SwitchExecutive directory and make sure you have the nise.llb and niseCfg.llb
        a) If these .llb files are not there, check to see if Switch Executive has installed correctly. You can go into Measurement and Automation Explorer(MAX) to
    2) Have you activated your Switch Executive software?
    If you have already activated the software and do not see the files there, try repairing the software. Another thing you can try is uninstalling and then reinstalling the software. For the vis to appear in LabVIEW they need to install into that folder. If you find them somewhere else on your system, you can try copying them to that folder.
    Please give these suggestions a try. Keep us posted on how that works out for you.
