Running CS 4 on Bootcamp

We are about to upgrade to two new iMacs at work and plan on using Bootcamp. Sometimes we get PC files and need to use windows and this seems to be a good way around having a PC station on the desk as well.
What I'm wondering is, do I need a Mac and PC version of Adobe CS for each computer? I called Adobe and the guy said he has heard of people installing the Mac version and being able to use it in PC mode. Doesn't make much since to me. He actually said he heard that but they have "absolutely NO documentation" on it. Nice Adobe doesn't even know what their products are capable of...
Can anyone enlighten me on this?
Thanks!

What I'm wondering is, do I need a Mac and PC version of Adobe CS for each computer?
No. There's no file that the Windows version of any CS4 app can create that you can't open on the Mac. If a client sends you files on a Windows formatted disk, you can copy them off to your OS X hard drive and work on them the same as you would in Windows. When you send them back, OS X can burn an ISO 9660 disk (can be read by any Mac or PC). Just make sure not to remove any file suffixes. Windows needs those to determine the file type.
There is one "gotcha" that still exists between the platforms. Fonts, not even cross platform OpenType fonts, will necessarily work correctly between Windows and OS X. So if you get in InDesign document, it wouldn't be too surprising to see slight shifts in type flow, even using the exact same OpenType font in both OS X and Windows running InDesign CS4 on both.
But for most work, there's no need to spend the money twice for the same applications.

  • My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using.

My MacBook Pro 13" (2012) is running Windows 7 on Bootcamp and there is an issue with the headset I'm using. I use a cheap Logitech Stereo Headset H130, but since there is only on audio plugin on the computer, I purchased a 3.5 mm 4-pin smartphone audio adapter thingy. That allowed me to put both my the sound coming to my headset & the microphone on my headset onto one wire. Everything worked wonderfully when running the Mac OS since they probably have support for that kind of stuff. The problem is though that once I try to use the same method in Windows 7, the OS doesn't recognize my headset microphone at all, but, instead when recording my voice decides to use the built-in mac microphone. Using this adapter still allows me to hear from my headset, but not use the microphone and that becomes a problem. It might be so that Windows 7 doesn't have support\drivers for that... How should I continue from here on out? Any advice?

From what I have read from others on here you may be out of luck. You would need the appropriate Windows drivers for the Cirrus chip in the Mac and no one has been able to successfully locate them. Apple wouldn't support this since Windows is an optional install.
Sorry to bring the bad news.

I would do 1 thing at a time:"now the micropohone is not working in facetime"
Here is what you can check to get your mike working in facetime:
    1. Hold down option while you click on the speaker next to time a. date,
under input Device see if your mic is marked. If not: ✔️
    2. Click the apple top left/System Prefs./click on the Sound speaker:
    under Input highlight microphone.
    3. When you have factime on go to video above scroll and see if your mic is marked ✔️
If that does not get it to work there is more you can check:
    (Utilities/Audio, midi setup)
For any other audio device you do this for input and output.
If you get stock post back

I have an imac bought late 2013, can i use it as a display for the new mac pro running windows 8 through bootcamp?

No. Target Display mode is only supported when connected to a Mac running 10.6 or later.
It cannot be used with a PC, bootcamp, gamaing console, cable box, DVR or PowerPC Mac.

  • My mac mini (2011) is only downloading at 100mbps running Mountain Lion, but 200 mbps when running Windows 7 on bootcamp.  Why?

I've upgraded my internet to a shaw 250 Mbps plan.  Using their speed test I'm getting over 200 Mbps on this mini, running windows 7 on bootcamp.
When running moutain lion, I'm getting exacty 100 mbps.  solid, looks like it's being limited.
Network utility app shows link speed of 1Gbit/s zero errors or collisions.
Network is cable modem wired into airport extreme (5th generation), then wired to the mini; all cables cat6.
Is there something in Mountain Lion that limits the ethernet bandwidth to 100 Mbps?
And how do I turn it off so I can get the 200+ the hardware can clearly do?
    Thanks

    oh, btw.
I get exactly the same max download speed of 100 (102.?) Mbit/s using wireless; which shows as a 450 Mbit/s link speed.
So I seem to have the same limit to all my network connections.

  • Running Windows 7 via bootcamp but cannot update to either 3.1 or 3.2. My MAC OS is 10.6.8

I am running Windows 7 via bootcamp but cannot update to either 3.1 or 3.2. My MAC OS is 10.6.8.
I can  download either version, but I get an error message after attempting to install.
First tried Boot Camp 3.2.  Error message indicated I need Boot Camp 3.1 first.
Then tried Boot Camp 3.1. Error message indicated I need Boot Camp 3.0 first
Then tried Boot Camp 3.0. Would not allow download.
I know the OSX came with Boot Camp why is there a problem????!!

3.0 is on your OS X DVD. Clearly spelled out in the guide in Boot Camp Assistant, and here -
www.apple.com/support/bootcamp : manuals, look for 10.6 pdf version.
3.0 is pre-requisite for any other
OS X comes with Boot Camp Assistant and you access 3.0 drivers while in Windows.

  • Run windows 8 in bootcamp

    Hi,
Is it possible to run Windows 8 in bootcamp on my iMac 24" 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo (4 GB 800 MHz DDR2 SDRAM)

win8 is currently not officially supported by bootcamp so no disignated drivers for any of the apple hardware

  • I'm trying to run win 8 on my Macbook Pro (running 10.8.5) is there anyway to run the software on bootcamp without using a flash drive?

I recieved a download of windows 8 OS Premium, and I'm trying to run it using bootcamp. Unfortunately it's trying to tell me that I need to run it off a flash drive. At this time I don't have a flash drive big enough to hold the OS and the required installer software. Any suggestions?

Apple only supports Windows on certain hardware.
    http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp/
Apple provides their framework for Windows to run on a Mac, a piece of software called a Hybrid MBR that bridges the gap between how Windows reads the drive partition table (MBR) and EFI/GUID partition table that Mac's use.
It doesn't mean Windows can't run on your Mac, a third party solution called rEFIt will also bridge the gap and allow booting of more that just Windows, Linux as well for a triple booting computer.
Your hardware has to meet the other requirements the second and third operating system needs as as being able to install drivers that will work for your hardware, especially the fans or they will run loud and fast by default.
    http://refit.sourceforge.net/
This above is a advanced procedure which requires knowledge how computers and various operating systems, drive formats and so forth work.
I even admit I don't know everything myself, but I experiment on a separate piece of Mac hardware (out of warranty/AppleCare) designed for this purpose so in case something screws up I'm not taking down my only machine and can use the other to get online and find solutions.
There is a very high potential for losing your data if your using advanced/non-Apple methods to install Windows on your only Mac where Apple doesn't support it. Also one shouldn't be doing this on Mac hardware that is under AppleCare or warranty as it might be voided. Proceed at your own risk and education.

  • How do I turn on the keyboard backlight when running Win 7 in Bootcamp 4.0?

Power Plan 2.5e does not find a Bootcamp process, so doesn't think I'm running it, and is no help. The backlight works perfectly in Mountain Lion, but I can't getit to come on at all when running Win 7. What am I missing?

Well the problem is most certainly having 2 versions Why on earth would you
    do that ?
You'll have to remove both and reinstall version 4, although at this point
    you probably should upgrade.
Please note: I read this Forum through e-mail. If you respond to me; please

  • Mac OS X crashes on restart after running Windows 7 under bootcamp

    Hi,
Have a strange problem that has only just cropped up recently.
I upgraded to Lion on the day it came out and have booted into my bootcamp partition several times since then however, the other day i booted into Windows 7 and after restarting to go back into Mac OS X, it booted to the desktop, i saw the FInder load and then it just restarts. It then boots into Windows again (next available boot drive i suppose). I then restart into Mac OS X, picking it from the Bootcamp menu in the Windows 7 system tray but it then does the exact same thing - boots into Mac OS X, loads the finder and then restarts into Windows again.
The only way i have been able to boot into Mac OS X is to hold shift at start-up when the Mac drive is selected to boot into, in order to boot it into safe mode and then run Onyx to do a few maintenance tasks. After a restart, Mac OS X boots perfectly again.
I have seen countless posts about Lion not allowing Windows 7 to boot but not the other way around as in my situation.
I have installed Bootcamp 3.3 on Windows 7 and have a completely up-to-date version of Windows 7 and Mac OS X but this still doesn't fix the problem.
Can anyone suggest why this might be happening or what i can do to fix it? I'd like to fix this if possible as i can't go through the rigmoral or having to boot into safe mode and then use Onyx everytime i use Windows. I only use Windows for gaming though so it isn't critical but still a pain.
Many thanks in advance for any help or advice!

    Hi probe_driod.
Thanks for your help. I ran software update this morning and the only thing that appeared was an updated version of iTunes. I manually downloaded the Graphics Firmware update but it said it did not apply to my system.
It is to my understanding that i cannot install Bootcamp 4 over the top of my Bootcamp 3.3 installation without first removing my bootcamp partition (therefore destroying all of my data) and then installing bootcamp again from scratch. Is this correct?

  • For those who run Windows 8 with bootcamp: Do you update windows 8, with windows update? I have the latest bootcamp drivers, and never checked for updates on windows. Do you normally update windows 8?

Windows 8 has been running very well after installing it with bootcamp and its latest drivers.
I just have never updated Windows 8 itself, (windows has never checked for updates), and just has been
using it bare. Do you update windows 8 to the latest updates with windows 8, and have any problems
with the updates? Just curious before I start updating it for once.

You have to update Windows to the latest version with Windows Update and keep it updated, because this is a matter of security. Microsoft provides a lot of security updates and you have to install them even if you have got an antivirus. Then you can find other updates, and if you want to install Windows 8.1, just install all updates with Windows Update, and then go to the Windows Store and download Windows 8.1.
Apple says that Windows 8.1 is not supported by Boot Camp, but people say it works without any problem with the most recent drivers, so I do not find any risk after upgrading to Windows 8.1.

  • Mac Pro Running Windows XP in Bootcamp with AIM 6.5 Can't Connect to iChat

I'm running Windows XP on my Mac Pro under Bootcamp. The Windows firewall is turned off (I'm running McAfee, and using it's firewall).
I am trying to talk to a friend who is using iChat on a Mac - I am using AIM 6.5 on my Mac running Windows. The connection fails as soon as iChat attempts to answer.
    Mac OS 10.4.10
    Bootcamp 1.4 (beta)
    Windows XP
    McAfee 7.2
    iChat 3.1.8
    Airport Express
I have set up McAfee to allow TCP and UDP connections over ports 2869 (TCP) and 1900 (UDP).
I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.
I have also tried to doing this under my Mac OS X bootup running PARALLELS. This worked once, but I have not been able to repeat it (McAfee was running when it worked).
iChat works great on my Mac under OS X. This is only a problem in Windows XP under Bootcamp.
I cannot connect to appleu3test01 either (under Bootcamp with XP). I can connect to appleu3test01 no problem running iChat on my Mac.
Might this be a Bootcamp related problem? Can anyone else test this for me (i.e. can someone try to use AIM 6.5 from Windows XP under Bootcamp)???
    Thanks!

    Hi Ralph,
{quote}If the Firewall was On I would ask if you had set it up as an Exception
    http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page12.html#_Service{quote}
Yes, this is what I meant by,
    {quote}I have also disabled McAfee, and tried to use the Windows firewall settings discussed frequently in this forum (with appropriate exceptions). This also fails.{quote}
I've noticed that you've posted solutions frequently in this forum. I read your posts, and visited your website. Its great information ... thanks for posting it! However, it didn't help me to resolve this particular problem.
    You asked,
    {quote}The question now becomes have you allowed it through McAfee ?{quote}
I tried resolving the problem with McAfee "ON" and "OFF". When it was "OFF" I Set the Windows firewall up per your instructions. Unfortunately, it didn't help. And yes, this includes setting up the "exceptions."
I don't think the problem is with McAfee.
    You stated,
    {quote}Having said that and seeing you have tried combos around this issue I would have to point out the AIM site says AIM 6.5 will only Video with other AIM applications. It has been reported here though that it does work with iChat{quote}
Yes, I have read that AIM 6.5 will communicate with iChat on several forums. Lots of people appear to have this working. I wish to use iChat on my Mac to communicate with friends running Windows XP (or Vista) using AIM 6.5. I like iChat.
    Finally, you asked,
    {quote}Next I would have to ask if the modem or router is allowing the AIM application ?{quote}
This is a very good question. I have not been able to test this. I couldn't find an AIM "test" address to use (like Apple's appleu3test01). Any suggestions?
Thanks for your help Ralph. This configuration is a little bit unusual, but it should work. I think the problem might be with the AIM configuration as you've suggested. I will continue to troubleshoot and report any findings here.

  • My MacBook Runs Very Slow After BootCamp.

Today i decided to install a windows partition using bootcamp. At first I didnt'g give the partition enough memory so i deleted it and partitoned it once again. After going back to OSX i noticed a huge difference in performance. Everything ran incredibly slow and took a long time to process even the simplest tasks. Thinking it would solve the problem i once again deleted the windows partition. I rebooted and things got a little better. I then tried to repair disk permissions and again had little results. Whenevr i have itunes open or try to open it, it causes big problems and everything slows down. The same thing happens anytime i try to play an audio file on any player. However if i keep itunes closed and don't try to play any music things run decently, still slow but decent. But in order for things to stay this way i have to constantly clean my RAM up. If i don't i get left with around 10 MB of RAM. I checked the activity monitor and seems that coreadiod is using up the RAM. The process is staying around 115% of CPU usage. This happens even when everything is closed and i am idle at my desktop.
This is a big problem and i can never have more than about 3GB of RAM free and even then it quickly drops until i'm left with just MB's. My MAcBook is a 15 in. retina MBP with 8 GB of RAM. Before the bootcamp OSX always ran super fast with no problems. There is only one thing i can think of that caused this problem. In my windows partition i downloaded various media players including itunes and winamp. I was trying to basically share my itunes library on the OSX partition over to the windows. To do this i changed the itunes media folder location to the one on the OSX partition. This did not accomplish my task but it did keep that file directory. Also with windows media player i added the same itunes media folder to the list of folders for WMP to access, this also did not work. In winamp i added the same folder and it read my music no problem. I think this is where the problem lies seeing as itunes and playing audio files seems to leave my computer almost unfuctional. The odd part is it doesn't even have to be an audio file in my itunes library, a file completely seperate that i didnt try to add to the windows partition causes the same issue.
I'm not too knowlwedgable on this so i have no idea what else to try. Any help or any suggestions as to what to do would be greatly appreciated.

After looking into the problem more, it turns out everything works great until I open itunes. itunes does not open and if i force quit it, that is when coreaudiod starts taking all of my RAM.

  • 2008 - How to make the SATA drives run full speed with Bootcamp and XP ?

Has anyone found a way - after all this time - of repairing a 2006 install of Windows XP SP2 - or in someway fixing the rather slow SATA drive problems?
I have not upgraded to 10.5 - but would if the new Bootcamp somehow (via new drivers??) fixed the problem!
My machine is now 2 years old ( 2.66 4 core ) and I finally need XP's full speed for a project - but most of the posts I've seen are fro 2006 and expired.
    Help!
    -Glen

And again, my objective to is get 'full speed' from the SATA drives while running XP.

  • Is it better to run parallels alone or bootcamp?

I had an older MBP and at first i was running bootcamp alone with my autodesk inventor software. Then i happened to buy and install parallels and everything ran perfect!
Within the last week I upgraded to a new MBP with a faster processor and twice the ram. This time I did not run boot camp, just installed parallels alone... Now my inventor software is lagging and seems much slower to respond to commands. If i partition my drive with bootcamp and run parallels with it will it speed things back up? I am new to the parallels software so I'm not sure what would be the best choice. I just know I love using parallels, makes my life much easier when things run up to speed..

New computer means your Windows OS needs to be prepped or a new install - new hardware = new activation license.
Using a partition gives you option to dual boot. Also you are not using a VM image file which is limiting.
Most people want to run 3D and processor/graphic intense software natively rather than in a VM but if Parallels suits you, fine.
Were you using Parallels 10 and 10.10 before? I think you should upgrade to the new version as the older versions of Parallels are not optimized for Yosemite which also plays a big role and another reason it is sluggish.
I believe in clean install - any OS, whether Mac or Windows, the end result is a more stable, faster, performs better with fewest possible bugs or glitches.
When you used Boot Camp you also had to install Boot Camp Apple drivers for 'that' Mac which might still be there, but missing the drivers for your newer rMBP too.
