Running different safari versions

Hi,
I am looking at obtaining a Mac so that I can test my website on different versions of Safari. My requirement is that the site be accessible and usable by as many versions as possible.
Can anyone on here tell me if I can install and run different versions of Safari on the latest Mac OS?
Can I have these different versions installed at the same time?

I only know of one poster here who said he had two versions of Safari running under OS X 10.4.x. He had the version issued with 10.4.4 (2.x) and he had one of the versions (1.2) that was issued for OS X 10.3.x. He claimed to be having no problem. The only problem I can see is that they would be sharing preference, bookmarks, history, and autofill files as well as cache files and I do not know how they would interact.
So it appears you can run earlier versions of Safari on newer versions of OS X. The opposite is not the case, you cannot run Safari 2.x on any version of OS X earlier than 10.4.x.
One way to be safe if you are going to do this is to set up separate user accounts for each version of Safari you want to run. That way, each version would have its own copies of the support files.

I m sure u must be rocking !!! Let me come to the point !! I have following doubts...
1) Is it possible to run different JRE versions on the same machine...? This might be a real life scenario. For example u have java application-1 installed on ur machine which uses JRE1.4. Then u install another java application-2 which was built and tested using JRE1.5. That means u need to have both the JREs on ur machine and User might invoke both the application at the same time which needs respective JREs to be invoked.
If u smart guys guessed it that this guy is coming from .NET back ground and talking about Side by side execution, then u got it right. I m planning to shift the parties !!
2) If above answer is yes, then How can we achive it...?

I work for a multi-billion dollar business in which the JRE of a critical application was upgraded without a problem. According to your suggestion, that's a mistake, but I have a hard time imagining what your justification for that position would be.

Considering some different scenarios is good for the imagination. Not to be too harsh, but perhaps counselling people that one should never upgrade the JRE of a business- or mission-critical application should wait until you have some actual experience. :o)

Safari (Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)) Keeps Freezing / Crashing

Hi Everyone -
I am having issues with my Macbook Pro.
The two main issues are:
1) Safari keeps freezing. I endup having to force quit it. The version I'm running is Safari (Version 5.1 (7534.48.3)). I have Mac OS X version 10.7 running.
2) My Macbook Pro (2.2 GHz Intel Core i7) Super Slow. It used to be very fast but for some reason it is running slow. I don't do anyhting to crazy on my computer. I typically use Outlook, Safari and MS Office. I don't know whats causing it to be slow. Everytime I open a file or even try to search for an item on my computer using spotlight it takes forever! My laptop used to be so fast, I'm dissapointed because the main reason I switched to the apple from PC was the speed and stability of the hardware.
Here is what I've done:
1) Virus scan - Clean
2) Repaired the hard drive using the repair utility
3) I've tried to reset the memory by rebooting and holding the opetion command r and p buttons as well as the boot using L-Shift option and command.
4) Checked Activity Monitor: Free 518mb / wired 848mb / active 2.0 gb / inactive 648mb / used 3.49 gb ||| Vm size 213gb, pages in 1.05gb, pages out 6.3mb , swap used: 46.5mb    ||||||| cpu user 2.07% system 1.31 idle 97 ||||| disk usage space used 221.9gb space free 527.4 gb

Active Data Guard in different database versions (11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4)

In case of Active Data Guard can i run different database versions (11.2.0.3 and 11.2.0.4) at Primary and DR for production environment ? And will having RAC in environment make any difference?

As per normal Data Guard requirement, Oracle 11.2 does support flexibility where Primary and Standby may have different hard wares such as CPU architecture and OS etc. but the Oracle RDBMS software version must be the same. Having said so does not mean it will not support it. Beginning with 11.1.07, a physical standby database can be used to execute a rolling database upgrade to a new Oracle Patch Set or database release by using the transient logical rolling database upgrade process. It means you can have with different database version but for how long, you need to check above documents.. For complete information you should read this note:

2 Cisco 2504 controllers but different software versions

Hello,
I am configuring two 2504 controllers, which I ordered together, however they run different software versions and I don't have a contract/ login to download wlan controller software from the Cisco website.
The one with the newest version runs 7.2.103.0 while the other one runs 7.0.220.0
I want to run them together in the same subnet and use them for redundancy (10 AP's will connect)
Is there a way I can download the software from the controller, just like I am able to do with an ASA firewall? Then I can upload it to the controller with the older software version.

No, you can not download the code from the WLC. You can contact your reseller and request the firmware.
If you have a contact with Cisco sales team you can tell them and they can open a TAC case for your behalf to publish you the code.
If your device is under warranty you can send your serial number to [email protected] along with your CCO ID. They will publish you the image if the device is under warranty. (or if it is under valid contract but you don't have the contract number).

Safari Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3) yahoo mail will not support this version . Yet I cannot upgrade to a different version ? What can I do ?

I have a apple ibook and it has safari Version 5.0.6 (5533.22.3) and when I go to yahoo mail it will not load says it is no longer supported. Do I really have to get a different browser or is their an apple safari browser that I can down load. I also have an new apple book pro and it is fine but this older version is my home use computer.

If your Mac is an Intel CPU model then you can purchase a OS X 10.6.3 Snow Leopard upgrade disc from Apple for$20 and then update to OS X 10.6.8.

If your Mac is an older PowerPC style Mac, then OS X 10.5.8 is as high an OS as your Mac will go.
If your Mac is a much older PowerPC Mac, you could try TenFourFox which is more up to date web browser, based on Mozilla Firefox, for older PowerPC Macs run OS X 10.4 Tiger or OS X 10.5 Leopard.

No, not without upgrading to a higher version of the Mac OS. However, the easiest thing to do is get another browser for use with sites that don't like older versions of Saari. I always have a secondary browser on any computer, Mac or PC. For our Macs, I install FireFiox alongside Safari when setting up a new computer.
As FireFox is updated sometimes weekly, YouTube should not have a problem with it.

Oracle Sql Query issue Running on Different DB Version

Hello All,
I have come into situation where we are pruning sql queries on different DB version of Oracle and have performance issue. Let me tell you in brief and i really appreciate for your prompt response as its very imperative stuff.
I have a query which is running on a DB of version 7.3.4 and it takes around 30 mins where as the same query when run on 8i it takes 15sec., its a huge difference. I have run the statistics to analyze on 7.3 and its comparatively very high. Question here is, the sql query trys to select data from same schema table and 2 tables from another DB using DB link and 2 other tables from another DB using DB link.So,how can we optimize this stuff and achieve this run as same time as 8i DB in 7.3. Hope i am clear about my question, Eagerly waiting for your replies.

Difficult to be sure without any more detailed information, but I suspect that O7 is in effect copying the remote tables to local temp space, then joining; 8i is factoring out a better query to send to the remote DBs, which does as much work as possible on the remote DB before shipping remaining rows back to local.
You should be able to use EXPLAIN PLAN to identify what SQL is being shipped to the remote DB, If you can't (and it's been quite a while since I tried DB links or O7) then get the remote DBs to yourself, and set SQL_TRACE on for the remote instances. Execute the query and then examine the remote trace files, And don't forget to turn off the tracing when you're done.
Of course it could just be that the CBO got better,,,
HTH - if not, post your query and plans for the local db, and the remote queries.

How to run different Oracle client versions on the same PC

I have developped an application (.Net 2.0, ODP v. 10). I must run it on PC where Oracle client version 8 is installed. The PC cannot be upgraded because of a client software running under this version.
I tried to install ODP v. 10 on this PC in different home, but the software using version 8 stops running.
Can Oracle Instant Client help ? But which version, 11 ? My application is based on ODP 10. Can ODP 10 access database via Instant Client 11 ?

The problem on Windows is: The 10g installation changed the default ORACLE_HOME,now it points to 10g and makes the 8.0.5 application invalid,because it runs now in a much higher environment. What I did in a similar situation, I created a batch file, which sets temporarily the old environment (in my case PATH,ORACLE_SID,ORACLE_HOME) and then invokes the application.
I don't know whether such a solution will work for you (8.0.5 is very old,desupported since a long time), my old version was 8.1.7.4.

How to run 2 different Firefox versions using the same profile

Is it possible to run 2 different Firefox versions using the same profile and still have browsing history saved? I used to be able to do that up until a week ago. What happened was I was using Firefox version 3.6.28(a very old version of Firefox) which I need to use sometimes and then the current version, 36.01. Earlier I would use both my versions of Firefox and the history would be saved if I used both versions but now when version 36.01 came out, its not saving for some reason. Is this a bug? The history is saving during the current session, but say I close out of Firefox and then go back to Firefox, it will still be saved but when I go to my old version of Firefox, the history is saved but then after I close out of that the history on my new current version is all gone and it starts me all fresh, is there a way to get rid of this so that the history will always be saved even if i switch between versions? I could do that before up until Firefox 35.01 but Firefox 36 isnt saving the history from the old version, is this a bug or not? Now I have to create a separate profile for each Firefox so the history I use on the old version is only saved on that version and the history I have on the new Firefox is another profile so that history from the 2nd profile remains but I dont want that. I want to be able to use the same profile so that the same browsing history can be saved using both versions like it was before, I hope people can understand my problem. @ the-edmeister, I understand that the 2 versions are completely different, however how come the history was saving fine when I switched between firefox 3.6.28 to the current one which was Firefox 32, 33, 34, 35 etc? Like I'm surprised how come now at Firefox 36 this problem started, Firefox 36 isnt that much different from Firefox 35 but yet Firefox 35 was still saving my browser history from the old 3.6.28 version, my 3.6.28 version never upgrades but the new Firefox keeps upgrading whenever there is a new release out automatically and then all of a sudden when the new version of 36.01 came out all my history was gone, so isnt Firefox 35.01 also very much different from 3.6.28 as much as 36.01 is? I hope you got what I meant, thank you for helping.

I need to run swing GUIs under different JRE versions. Where can I find information about how to use only classes which exist from version 1.1.7 and above?

Under 1.1.7, Swing (then version 1.0) was under com.sun.java.swing. The package name changed in Swing 1.1 b3/JDK 1.2 to javax.swing. You can see what classes were available under Swing 1.0 at http://java.sun.com/products/jfc/swingdoc-api-1.0.3/frame.html

Right, like I'm trying to say, THERE IS NO SAFARI MENU bar. Example: I have multiple applications open, I click on a Photoshop window, the correct menu or title bar or whatever changes. Every other application window I click on brings up the correct "whatever" bar. If I click on the desktop, the "Finder Bar" shows up.
Everythiing else, BUT SAFARI, works the same way since OS X came out. This is ridiculous.
I'm getting the vibe that Apple is trying to get rid of the finder.... this is the way wrong direction.
