Running Elements Mac on 2 screens

I'm learning Photoshop Elements 6 on Mac OSX.
Everything is basically OK but I need to ask these 2 questios:
I have 2 monitors and have Elements open on 1 and a tuition video on the second. Everytime I click on the video to play a bit more, photoshop disappears off the screen and I have to use Apple-Tab-select (or click on the icon in the dock to bring it back. This is annoying and no other program used in the same way does this.
Is it normal that when Elements is on the screen, there are no red-orange-green buttons in the top left corner which means I cannot put it in the dock or minimise the window? The only way seems to be to use the hide shortcut or get rid of it by using Apple-Q.
What did I do to make this happen, or is it normal? If it's normal it is a bit of a pain in the butt.
Any advice on this would be much appreciated.
regards
GB

Hi Barbara,
Thanks for your reply.
I accept your answer to question 1.
As for question 2:
My main Elements window is frozen full screen. I cannot reduce the size of
it in any way. You know how all Mac windows can be grabbed in the bottom
right corner and resized? This is not possible with Elements. It looks
different than the one in the training video (which is also done on a Mac).
The centre work section (where pictures appear) is huge, the tools are also
frozen in 1 thin vertical line (training video has them in 2) and the layers
etc bin is also small on the right.
If this is all normal I'll have to accept it but I have a feeling that
something is not quite right.
Attached is a full screen shot of how the program looks on my monitor.
Many thanks for your time.
Regards
George
PS: please excuse me if I'm chasing shadows.

I have a 5 month old  iMac running Lion and W7 with the latest version of boot camp . It has been operating flawlessly until I went to reboot into Mac tonight. Screen went black, and system is unresponsive. I've tried force quitting and turning power off. Hard drive starts, there's a small amount of drive activity and that's it.

Hi Jane, your info may still be there, look in the Users folder at root of the drive, how many users are there there?
It sounds like this may have happened...

If Installation has been completed, then you can go to the Applications menu on your MAC and you find Photoshop elements listed out there.
For understanding PSE, you can check this : http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements.html

I run a Mac Mini 10.6.1 and a G5 10.4.11 - they share a screen. Yesterday the contrast on the Mac Mini went mad. Very very heavy contrast and now its impossible to retouch with Photoshop as I cannot judge the colours accuratly. The G5 is fine. I keep the screen image I get on the G5 good and accurate with Huey. I believe I cannot use this with the "Intel Inside" Mac Mini. Does anyone know how I can restore the great screen image I got up to yesterday on my Mac Mini? Thanks. John Suffolk England.

Likely caused by one of the following: a bad cable, maybe a bad connection or (my guess) bad graphics hardware.
To rule out the software, see if booting from an installer DVD shows better color.
Swap the cables and check the connections.
Then call your hardware support provider.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Lion uses Recovery to reinstall OS X. Press Command and R keys when your Mac starts, open Disk Utility, erase the drive and reinstall Lion. The other Mac has probably got its hard disk damaged, so take the Mac to an Apple Store

  • Creative Cloud Desktop download utility running on Mac 10.8 fails to show apps/install apps

After purchasing subscription, downloading and installing the Creative Cloud Desktop Version (2.0.0.183) utility, I am unable to install a single app. When on the 'App' screen a spinning circle appears. I have tried reinstalling the Creative Cloud Desktop Utility many times, spoken with chat member who suggested deleting a database file in the OOBE folder, then restarting computer—none of these have worked. I have been struggling with this for over 5 hours, trawling forums with little success. I also have older versions of Adobe software (ie CS4. CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 which I do not want to delete).
I am running a Mac system 10.8, have 50 Gb drive space available and 32 Gb of ram.
Welcome any help as I purchased software subscription I cannot use.
    Thanks

KlippyKlein it sounds like you have archived the Opm.db file located in /Users/<UserName>/Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE is this correct?
If so can you also try renaming the Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE to OOBE_Old.  Once this is done please reinstall the Creative Cloud application from https://creative.adobe.com/.

  • Bridge and  Elements / Mac Version Compatability

On a Mac I have Bridge which came with a CS3 suite, and on my pc I have Elements 8
If I were to get Bridge on the pc:
Would it work/imoprt/replace PSE 8 Organizer?
Could I move the inages and catalogs from my Mac to the PC and import/integrate those?
    Thanks!

bridge does not use catologs as elements does.
elements for me is a million times quicker at organising and finding pictures.
but if that catalog developes an error then it can be a pain to fix.
Bridge, updates its image database evertime its run, which is why its so so so slow....
yes it has a thumbnail database of the images but not an overal 'catalog' file.
lightroom works similar to elements and again is much better than bridge, but so long as your database in lightroom functions.
thats kind of why i personally use bridge, though i hate it as its basically so full of bugs and as said slow.
but you can drag and drop new folders without too much of a problem.
    in answer to your question.
i dont think you can just load bridge.
either way it will not effect your elements catalog, there treated as two seperate programs.
as said on your mac using bridge there is no catalog
so just copy your image directorys other to your PC.
and the next time you run elements it will find the images.
you will lose keyword data, though i think you can export keywords and then import them into elements.

  • HT4718 On the Mac x utility screen my system is asking for "system lock PIN"

I have forget my password of MacBook Air. I tried to reset by holding the Command R while booting. But on the Mac x utility screen it is asking for system pin. I don't know what to do. Please suggest. I am ready to reinstall the is but don't have any disk

I'll respectuflly disagree with Paul_31's advice about ordering replacement disks. We know that whatever your model is, it's capable of running Mavericks. But there are some models of Macintosh that shipped with OS X 10.5.x that can be upgraded to Mavericks, and if you order exact replacement disks for that model from Apple, you will wind up with the 10.5 operating system, which can't be upgraded to Mavericks by itself, since the computer needs to be at 10.6 to upgrade to Mavericks. You can purchase OS X 10.6 installation disks from Apple for $19.99, but that, too, may be useless, because your model may be too new to support 10.6.

CSound1 is on the right track, because he's probably trying to get you to a screen that can display information about your Mac - such as the serial number, and perhaps the amount of installed memory.
If you can't get to a screen to show your serial number, see this link:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1349
Once you get your serial number, you can get general (and more specific) information about your Mac from one or both of these links. (The second link is not an Apple site, but has reliable information):
    https://getsupport.apple.com/ProductSelector.action
    http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html
Once we know more about your model, then we can advise you how to proceed. Here's another question. Is it your intention to completely erase the internal hard drive of the computer (which will also erase all of the installed programs on the computer)?

  • Anybody know of a swimming pool design program that runs on Mac operating system?

Anyone know of a swimming pool design software that runs on Mac?

The problem was that I kept getting the black screen of death, once while using Photoshop, the next 3 or 4 times on start-up, I couldn't keep the computer running. Starting it up with the install disk worked, and it seems to be more stable now, however, I haven't really done much in Photoshop since.
I know that Photoshop, especially when I use the Transform tool, will crash a lot, and often enough take the whole system down with it. But it usually works again on restart.
The test comes when I have another batch of photos to process. Unfortunately, business is a bit slow right now, so I don't have anything coming up soon.
Does Onyx do about the same job as Disk Utility? Is it any better? Or just have different options? I did download that one too, and the disk appears to be fine now.

  • How can I boot and run my Mac Mini on my 12" PwrBk display using firewire?

How can I boot and run my Mac Mini on my 12" PwrBk display using firewire?

    bwhit:
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
No reason why you should not be able to do it using Firewire Target Disk Mode. Here's what you do:
    1. With both computers shut down connect both via firewire.
    2. Startup the Mini and hold down "T" key immediately after chime.
    3. Startup the PB and immediately after chime hold down Option key.
    4. Select second HDD icon on the screen and click on the right pointing arrow.
    5. Computer will boot from Mini's HDD.
Be sure to shut down PB completely before shutting down Mini.
Please do post back with an update or with further questions or comments.

  • Back To My Mac multiple display screen sharing issue

Since upgrading to Yosemite, I've been unable to access one of my screens remotely via Screen Sharing and BTMM. It only shows the screen attached to the HDMI interface, it's as if the other display doesn't exist. There is no option to select the other display in the Screen Sharing View menu. In Mavericks it would by default show both screens and I could select one. I've tried disabling and re-enabling the Sharing function on the host Mac. The screen that it does share works perfectly, so it seems to just be a problem of recognizing the other display.
Host is a 2012 Mac Mini, client machine a MBP, both running 10.10.1.

Spoke with Apple who spoke with Apple and so on. Tech support for Apple Desktop Remote acknowledges (as best they could) that there is a bug/ problem. Yes, reverting to an older (3.5 - 3.4 ARDagent) solves the problem (short term ?). They captured my OS info and will get back to me in 3-5 days - how do you like them apples! So, revert to ARDagent 3.4 and you can remote connect - may try this later... will post if it works. Here's what's been posted on this: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/3192451?start=0&tstart=0

  • Which designing software I can run on mac book pro?

    Hi,
I am an engineering student. I need to use designing software such as ansys, catia, autocad, pro-e, and many more. Also I have plan to buy mac book pro. I need to know which designing software I can run on mac machine and what specification it should have? Thank you.
    Jaydeep

2.2 Ghz 15" MacBook Pro with high res anti-glare would be the best machine for you.
The 17" is fine too if you want a larger screen.
The 1GB Radeon 6750M video card will give you all you need for GPU performance for eh next 3-5 years or longer.
So the above is a future proof choice for the long haul.
(avoid the 13" and the 2.0 ghz 15", not so good graphics performance)
The anti-glare because you going to using your laptop in many different enviroments and your not going to be able to control the lights, etc to reduce the screen reflections. money well spent to see your screen properly.
Mac's can run a lot of software, they can also direct boot into Windows for Windows only programs.
Windows can also run inside OS X using virtual machine software like VMFusion (Apple likes) and Parallels, just takes a 50% performance hit on 3D games and animation.
Another nifty thing is if you set up a "bootcamp" partition of Windows for direct boot, virtual machine software can use that as a copy for the virtual machine OS in OS X. So no need to double install.
Also if your geekish, you can make a Mac triple boot. OS X, Windows and Linux too. So all software is avaiable with full hardwre perfromance.
I have a trible boot machine, also I run about 9 other operating systems on my 17" MacBook Pro in virtual machine as it's good enough for me (not a hard core 3D gamer) and easy to manage.

  • Having trouble running Elements 6 w/ Ltrm 4.4 upgrade

Running Elements on a Mac with Lion 10.7.5 without difficulty. Downloaded Lightroom upgrade 4.4. Since then when editing in Elements 6, I can't use the following (grayed out in pull-down menu): auto smart Fix, Image/transform, many of the layer and filter functions. Any suggestions for fixing or uninstalling the upgrade?

It sounds like you have your bit depth of the file you are sending to Elements as 16 bit instead of 8.  Elements only lets you use a subset of the edits when using 16 bit.  It can be changed when you use Edit In or exporting the file.  The following is the Edit In dialog box which you are probably using.
