Running FCP HD 4 on Intel Mac?

Hello
Not sure where I should post this....
I recently acquired FCP HD 4 (retail) for a screamin' deal. I was hoping it would run on my Mac Pro. It installed fine but when I try to open it, I get configuration error with hardware/software is missing and lists ppc G4 & AGP graphics card. Now, it won't run on my eMac cuz the eMac has hardware issues and runs @ half its speed, not to mention lack of ram.
So, my question is, is it possible to hack FCP HD to make it "think" it's running on a PPC mac?
(Is this a safe topic to bring up?)

The reason you got it so cheaply is because it was completely obsolete software over 5 years ago and is not of any use to anyone who has a remotely newish computer.
For an expert opinion on whether anything can be done you need the Final Cut Studio forum but I wouldn't hold out much hope as people are having problems getting FCP6 to work with Lion.

  • FCP 4.5 on Intel Mac?

A couple of general compatibility questions:
Will an Intel-based Mac run Final Cut Pro HD 4.5?
Also, will a PPC running Leopard do all right with 4.5?
    Thanks.

David is correct to say that FCP 4.5 is not supported on Intel machines, but FCP 4.5 will run fine on 10.5 and 10.5.6 on Intel Macs. I'm running it now on a unibody 2.53 MBP. You need to follow the advice here:

  • Why will Firefox 4.0 not run on my PPC (non Intel) Mac (running Tiger OS)?

I just downloaded the new 4.0 Firefox, and when I attempt to launch the program, I get the following message: "You cannot open the application "Firefox" because it is not supported on this architecture.

Firefox 4 requires an Intel Mac. If you are still interested in Firefox 4, you can try http://www.floodgap.com/software/tenfourfox/ but that is not created or supported by Mozilla. If you want to go back to 3.6, you can download it here http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.6.16/mac/en-US/

  • Experiences running Win XP on an Intel Mac

    Hi there.
I am testing out a couple options to be implemented on a 1st generation white 2 GHz MacBook at work with 2 Gb of RAM. I am currently testing it on my 2nd generation white 2.16 GHz MacBook with 2 Gb of RAM.
Please give me your experiences running Boot Camp, Parallels, VMware Fusion and anything else which may exist.
Boot Camp gave me the "some files could not be moved" error message. I was not prepared to reformat the hard drive in my MacBook.
I have installed trial versions of both VMware Fusion and Parallels then installed Windows XP.
I installed VMware yesterday. One thing that I liked about VMware was that it gave me the option to set a maximum size allocation for the Windows files but I could opt to have it only use what it needed and grow over time. I selected this option.
I also had the option to have it allocated the maximum size immediately.
VMware seems to be a memory hog. The documentation does state up front that 1 Gb of RAM is required for each virtual machine.
I just installed Parallels today. It seems to use significantly less RAM than VMware.
The first thing that I did after installing both programs was to install Symantec Antivirus and 4 antispyware programs. That reminds me, I need to finish installing them on in the Parallels environment.
Any feedback and your experiences, pitfalls to be avoided, etc. would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Keith, you should check out the craigslist.com Apple/Mac forum.
    http://toronto.craigslist.org/forums/?forumID=3232
I received some good and informative feedback there, including a link
    http://www.macrumors.com/2007/12/19/boot-camp-vs-parallels-vs-vmware-benchmarks/
which gives the results of independent 3rd party testing of all 3 products on various Mac's and a PC too.
I found out that there is a 4th product, CrossOver Mac 6.2.0
    http://www.codeweavers.com/products/cxmac/
It supports a relatively limited number of PC apps. You install the PC app on your Mac without emulating the PC environment.
You can view their list of supported applications at

  • Used Firefox but the 4.0 won't run on my pre-intel mac so need download for version that I can run.

I have always enjoyed running Firefox on my pre-intel mac OS 10.4 but the current upgrade I was forced to download did not launch. After trying it several times, I went to you website and manually downloaded the only version (4.0) I saw available which overwrote the one I had. But it won't run on this mac.
Please tell me where I can download a version that will run on my mac.
    Thank you

The Firefox 3.6.28 version that is offered on that page is the most recent Firefox version that runs on your PPC Mac with OS X 10.4

  • Running Autodesk Inventor using Fusion or Parallel on Intel Mac

I need to be able to run Autodesk Inventor and DO NOT want to purchase a PC to do it. If I use VMware Fusion or Parallel on an Intel Mac will it operate without any glitches. Our tech guy said that the keyboard shortcuts are not going to be the same, is that true and are there any other issues I will come up against (i.e. system speed, ram, video card etc.)

    Hi and welcome to Discussions,
your signature says that you are using PPC-Macs (Power Mac; Powerbook).
Parallels and Fusion only work on Intel-Macs.
    Same for BootCamp.
So, if your sig is still uptodate, you are out of luck.
Your tech guy might refer to the fact, that Apples keyboards have a slightly different layout than the usual PC keyboard.
See here for a comparison: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304270
On Intel-Macs some guys round here and in the BootCamp Forum have reported success in running Autodesk software on their Intel-Macs.
Please do a search for these threads.

  • Running Final Cut 4 on a Mac Mini...what do I do?

Well after installing final cut 4 on my new mac mini I realized I need an AGP card to run it. Thing is I'm new to the mac mini and don't know if I can install and AGP card because it doesn't appear to have the slot like other desktop computers do. So if anyone can help me out with this please let me know what to do. thanks

I think that you guys have missed something in the OP's post. He says "new" mini and FCP 4. These two things don't go together.
    Lagacy,
to run FCP on your new intel based mini you need to crossgrade to FCS 5.1. FCP4 is not universal and will not run well if it will run at all on this machine. For you I believe the crossgrade would be $199.

  • Best financial software for Intel Macs

I see to my disgust that Intuit just released a new version of Quicken that is not universal binary. That being the case, what is the best home financial software for Intel Macs?

    Hey Todd,
Just to be sure I am understanding you - you are saying you are miffed because Quicken missed the chance to go Universal Binary. That is understandable, but I just wanted to make sure you knew that it still runs on Intel macs.
I am running the newest release on my Macbook and to be honest Quicken just isn't one of those apps that is going to benefit from more speed.
My frustration has always been that Quicken dumbs down the functionality for the Mac version. Still the case with this last release.
That said, Quicken is still the best buy for my money (sorry couldn't resist!) and runs well via on the Intel macs.
The best solution and the one I am moving toward is to load XP on Parallels and run the PC version of Quicken that way.
Best of all worlds I would say.

  • Possible to move a virtual PC from VirtualPC to Tiger on Intel Mac?

I am migrating from a G5 running Panther to an Intel Mac running Tiger. I've got VirtualPC on the G5, and a virtual machine all set up. I know there are several possible solutions for running WinXP stuff on the Intel Mac. Is there any way, other than starting from scratch, to move this virtual XP machine from the G5 to have it run on the Intel (whether with or without VirtualPC)? If not, what's the easiest way to set up a WinXP environment on my Intel Mac (I have a couple of PC-only applications I need to run)?
    Mike

Let us know how you make out.
the good news is that it worked flawlessly - in about 15 minutes, my VPC .vhd file was automatically converted by "Transporter" (part of Parallels) into a valid virtual machine that ran just like it used to, on my new Mac Pro. Cool. The bad news is that it's now saying that since the "hardware" has changed, it wants me to authorize/authenticate/activate the XP installation. It says I have 3 days to do it. I see some posts on-line about converting the original VPC CD-ROM set into something that can be installed into a brand new Parallels virtual machine, but in my case, I already have one and I don't have a real PC on which to do the steps they suggest. So, I haven't quite figured out what to do about this issue yet...

  • Web packaged file on Intel Mac

Can some one please help, Ive got a training application
running in a web browser (Authorware 7) for both PC and Mac. The
Authoware lesson sends data out of Authoware via PostURL to a asp
page which then puts it into a access database. All works fine on
PC and on the old Macs powermac i think there called, but as soon
as i run the lessons on the new Intel Macs in Rosetta mode, i cant
get any data out of the lesson, it seems to block calling the url,
ive tried the Readurl command aswell.
It seems that Rosetta and the web player arnt playing nice
    together.
    Please Please help.

I think there's a known, and unresolved (and likely to remain
unresolved) issue with PostURL on a Mac. In fact, I'm kinda
    surprised it
seems to work on a non-Intel Mac as this issue has been
    around for a
    long time.
    This page:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/authorware/releasenotes/5/releasenotes_5.htm#problems
indicates the issue is just with IE on the Mac (and for 5.2,
    though I
don't doubt the issue remains with version 7).
So I'd recommend you make a simple test application that just
    does a
PostURL to the ASP page and test it on both platforms. Does
    it work on
the Mac and not the PC? If so, then the common workaround is
    to
restructure the ASP page to accept 'GET' statements instead
    of 'POST'
statements and use the Authorware ReadURL function instead. I
    know
you've said you did, but I'd test both thoroughly as, if
    neither works,
then you're pretty much out of luck unless you can use a
    third-party
    Xtra, like SecureNet

  • Anyone tried SAMPLETANK, Amplitube, or T-Racks with intel macs? Bias peak?

The Ik multimedia person replied that they have not started testing their products on intel macs. They were waiting for the Macbook pro to be released. Bias has no official word on their sight as well. Just wondering. I use IK plugs (sampletank, AT, T-racks) with logic.

If you're running 7.2 on an Intel Mac in native Intel mode (not Rosetta), PowerPC plugins won't work.

  • Can I install/run FCP 7 and/or adobe CS4/5/6 on apple mac mini MD388HN-A as it has INtel HD 4000 Graphics?

Can I install/run FCP 7 and/or adobe CS4/5/6 on apple mac mini MD388HN-A as it has INtel HD 4000 Graphics?

If you want to run Adobe apps, make sure you have the maximum RAM and plenty of available hard disk space. Given the typical internal drive sizes of the Mini, this would mean investing in one or two large external drives. Photoshop and InDesign only work well if there is a very large chunk of space available as a scratch disk. Some recommend dedicating a drive just for scratch space, if you are working with large, complex Photoshop files or large InDesign projects.

  • New mac mini and imac vs powermac G5 running FCP studio

I want to compare running the FCP suite on the new max minis and imacs that came out today vs what I am currently using:
Currently I am running FCP Studio on a Powermac G5 dual 2GHz with one gig of ram. I believe the frontside bus is 1GHz. I believe the stock video card isan ATI Radeon 9600 Pro (AGP 8X Pro) video card with 64 MB of DDR SDRAM.
With this being said, is it safe to assume that the new entry level mac mini would surpass my G5 in terms of performnce in both video (NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with128MB or 256MB of shared DDR3) memory processing (intel core2 duo 2GHz)?
If not would the two low end Imacs (using NVIDIA GeForce 9400M with 256MB of shared DDR3 memory) and processing power handle FCP studio better than my current powermac G5 setup listed above?
I am wondering because I spoke to a apple sales person who transfered me to a system engineer that said I'd have a slow time rendering video on FCP with the mac minis as well as the 2 low end imacs. This may be but Im wondering if it is still better than what I am using
I appreciate your opinions, but please only answer if you really know,
    Thanks!

For FCP/FCS I would not save on anything but will get the max what my budget allow. You will be always doing more and the workflow in FCS will entice you to open almost all apps in FCS concurrently to make use of the advanced features. I think that the new iMac are powerful enough to handle FCS, but once again, the extra dollars will save you alot of pain. FCS is a pro app and is not to be underestimated. Good luck.

  • Can I run FCS (1), and Tiger latest upgrade on an Intel Mac?

Hope this isn't too whacky a question,

Yes. TIger was the operating system in use when Intel Macs came out. Works fine.
Leopard? Well...that and FCP on any Mac is a crap shoot.
