Running Final Cut Studio 2 with only 512 MB

I have 2 older mac mini's laying around and I would like to put them to work. I was thinking that they could log and capture and only do that. If they are logging, then the other computers are freed up to edit. The problem that I am having is that the Mac Mini's only have 512 MB and Final Cut Studio needs more. Is there a way around this without adding memory?
Thanks!

The 1.5GHz spec was used in the last G4 release and the first Core Solo.
There were never any G5 minis.
Whichever model you have, you need to increase the RAM to make this workable.

Easiest thing to do is put the app on the non updated computers in the trash and then copy the new app on to a flash drive and copy into the app folders on the other two computters.

  • Is Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 5 still relevant and usable?

Is Final Cut Studio with Final Cut Pro 5 still relevant and usable? I bought it about four or five years ago and never started learning it, but would like to start learning editing now. Thanks.

That is the version I have. What formats can I work with in FCP 5.1. For example, can I edit movies from my Nikon Coolpix 7900 point and shoot that is about five years old? My Panasonic DV camera that is also about five or six years old? Will I be able to burn these types of footage to disc once edited and watch them on a DVD player. Thanks for your former replies.

  • How works final cut studio with lion?

how works final cut studio with lion?

The thing to take from FCPX is that it isn't an update/upgrade from 7. It's an entirely new editor. As a professional video editor myself for 5 years, I felt just as hesitant as you when I first saw what Apple had done. However, I committed myself to biting the bullet for a little while to get comfortable with the new workflow, and I can vouch for Apple's new move toward this type of setup. It has improved my workflow enough to where I can confidently say I deliver projects, on average, in half the time, with no sacrifice to quality.
Give it another chance, if you can afford it. With a bit of training, and time into using it, you'll see it's a superior editor to FCP 7

  • What to upgrade on dual 1 Ghz powerpc G4 to run Final Cut studio 2?

I have been using Final Cut Pro HD (4.5) on my Dual 1 gig G4 (1g sdram) for a few years. I have just purchased Final Cut Studio 2 and it needs at least one 1.25 ghz processor to run. Does anyone have any recommendations on what processor I should upgrade to? What else should I upgrade too make the system work well? I don't have the $2600 to buy a new mac, but would like to make the most of the upgrade.
    Thanks.

    Hi-
What model G4 do you have- Quicksilver or MDD? It makes a difference with processor upgrade recommendations.
    MDD processor upgrades
    Quicksilver processor upgrades
I would recommend the Newertech processors (for Quicksilver). They are solid upgrades, and carry a three year warranty. Sticking with a dual processor is also recommended.
For graphics, at a bare minimum, you will need the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro Mac. You would do even better to find a flashed (converted to Mac compatibility) Geforce 7800GS.
You will also need to max out your RAM, and depending on your current drive, a larger hard drive may also be necessary.
So, you really need $600-$900 worth of upgrades to really use the new software.

  • Integration of Apple Final Cut Studio with 3D Animation Programmes

    Dear all,
I would like to know which 3D Animation programmes for Macintosh have the ability to integrate with Apple Final Cut Studio 2 or vice versa. It's very important to design a 3D model with camera animation and import the scene -AS IS- into Motion or Shake.
    - Which are the best practises followed?
    - Which method appears to be more professional?
All responses are more than welcome.
    Thank you in advance,
    Lazaro

Apple uses nothing more than Quicktime/Compressor to encode those videos. Compressor that comes with Final Cut Pro give a little more control to the video footage to ensure better quality. But, Compressor doesn't add to the quality of h.264 encoding. Compressor uses the same setup as Quicktime Pro.
And even if they use hardware base equipment to encode these videos. It's only for the fast encoding that hardware encoders can give you. I read something on the internet a few months back from the guy who encodes these videos for Apple. He stated that he uses Compressor and Quicktime for the encoding.
Here is the answer to why these video look amazing. Not only these videos, Apple also encodes the movie trailers on their site. The secret is, they are given the best and I mean best quality originals to start with... Videos shot on $25,000-$100,000+ cameras. And the trailer footage given to them by the movie companies are hi-end transfers from film.
We could sit here and debate on what Apple actually does to encode these video. But the bottom line is to start by using the best footage you can obtain. And then go from there...

  • Running Final Cut Studio

Since Final Cut Studio was released before the advent of Intel Macs and was not designed to be Universal, is it true that it cannot run as fast as on a PowerPC Mac, other things being equal?

Final Cut Studio is not compatible with integrated Intel graphics processors, so no, it won't work on a Mac mini, at least not fully (some components of FCS may work, but it won't be supported by Apple). You'll want an iMac or a Mac Pro, if you're looking at new systems (if you're doing pro-type work, particularly HD, I'd strongly suggest a Mac Pro), or otherwise a system that meets the system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/finalcutstudio/specs/
If you're looking to buy a new system and don't need one today, I'd suggest waiting a few weeks. Though we can't say for certain when new systems will be released, the current Mac minis, iMacs and Mac Pros are getting "long in the tooth".
    Regards.

  • Macbook is quicker than the 2.16GHz/15 MacBook Pro running Final Cut Studio

CreativeMac.com ran a few Final Cut Studio tests on a dual 2GHz PowerMac G5, 2.16GHz MacBook Pro and on the 2GHz Macbook.
Read the artcile and check out the test scores. In some tests, especially using Compressor the Macbook whoops both the MacBook Pro and the dual PowerMac G5.
It is quite impressive to see how close the Macbook got to the MacBook Pro in some tests and interesting to see how much quicker in a selected few.

Interesting ... the Apple Store in Santa Monica swore blind to me yesterday that the MacBook can't run Final Cut (not that it would have disuaded me from getting the 15" Pro with 7200 drive and 2GB RAM). It flies, has no whine, doesn't get that hot and the build quality (apart from a slightly off-horizontal eject key) is excellent. (Week 16 model)

  • A Macbook Pro that will now run Final Cut Studio...inc Motion?

Well I ordered a new MBPro 17inch with 8Gb Ram. Will this really be the laptop that can edit FCS - including Motion and Soundtrack Pro ... and Compressor?
I will wait and see. I have been trying to find a robust portable solution as I would like to edit while on location (which can last 2 or 3 months). Hopefully we will see some good portable HD solutions to go along with Thunderbolt.
Anyone also think this will cut the tether to a desktop for FCS?

I've been using my 17" macbook Pro for the last year and it's running everything on Studio 3 absolutely fine. Including Motion and Soundtrack Pro. I use Firewire 800 drives. From what I can see the new macbook pro, although very desirable, looks like it would render a 30 minute FCP project to Pro res 422 HQ in maybe 15-18 minutes as opposed to the present 30 minutes or so. I think i can live with waiting that little bit of extra time. That "Thunderbolt" thingybejig sounds the business though!
Mind you the value of my Macbook Pro has probably halved overnight!

  • Reinstalling the Final Cut Studio media only?

    Hello everyone,
I have the retail version of FCS2 and during the installation I told the installer to copy all of the extra media and templates for Soundtrack, Motion, etc. to an external hard disk.
All was fine until the external disk crashed.
My question is this: is their a way to copy the media files directly from the installation DVDs without having to reinstall the whole Studio from scratch?
    Thanks!
    Rick

    You shouldn't have reinstall everything.
Start the install and you should have the option of only selecting the elements you need to reinstall and the location for them to be placed.

  • ANY luck with final cut studio 5 and quickktime 7?

what is the deal with quicktime 7? I am constantly reading about problems with it. I want to upgrade to Final Cut Pro 5 and quicktime 7, but am afraid to because of all the issues Ive been reading about. There are many different issues... but the common denominator is that they all seem to be related to quicktime 7.
    Here is my question:
Is ANYONE out there running final cut studio with the latest version of quicktime 7 with NO Problems? If i get enough yes answers, I may just go ahead and upgrade. If not, Im definitley going to wait until these problems are fixed, or for the next versions to come out. Thanks in advance...

i know that fcp 5 requires quicktime 7...right now i have final cut 4.5 hd with quicktime 6.5.2......im just trying to get an idea of how many people have final cut 5 with quictime 7 with no problems, and how many may be having problems. If there are too many people with problems, i was going to wait until the next version of final cut and quicktime come out before i upgrade. I was hoping for a few more responses. Thank you both very much for your response.. anyone else?

  • Final Cut Studio 2 and New Macbooks with Nvidia graphics

Do the new Macbooks announced today (10/14/2008) meet the minimum system requirements for running Final Cut Studio 2?

Lecturing? Really? Not hardly, but I'll answer your query as succinctly as possible.
Will the new Macbook run Final Cut Studio 2? I will wager that FCP will operate, DVD SP will operate and Soundtrack Pro will operate. I highly doubt Color will operate and am not sure about Motion due to the graphics card.
That should answer your question. To "lecture" some more, where will you have media stored and how will you get media, any sort of media into these applications?
As far as graphics and video are concerned, that distinction has been met above. I'm sure the Macbook will operate Photoshop with no problem.
But again, why not check the minimum tech specs for yourself?

  • Will Final Cut Studio 1 run on new silver imacs running leopard?

looking for advice or answers to this dilemma of mine...
i've got a client who needs to run final cut pro 5(client owns intel upgraded version) using basic cutting features almost as an off-line editor to send his edit files and media to me to on-line edit. have been looking at used imac and have found a g5 imac but it seems too expensive compared to the price of the new imacs.
so my question.. is anyone out there running final cut studio 1 (FCP 5 et. al.) successfully on an intel machine using the leopard OS (ideally new gen. imac)? or should i bite the bullet and buy the used g5 imac at a ridiculously inflated price?
    thanks in advance,
    grant

I have a Quad G5 and an 8core 3ghz, both running FSC2 side by side. G5 is a FCS upgrade to FCS2 with the 8 core a brand new FCS2. The G5 still rocks, I have set renders going of the same HD edit and the 8 core wins by a tiny margin. The G5 has no problems but the 8 core fell apart with the 2.01 update. Compressor problems!
I thought about selling the G5 and buying another Intel but it hasn't let me down once in 18 months so I'm keeping it.
