Running Final Fantasy XIV on Boot Camp

Hello everyone,
I bought the MacBook Pro 13" from late 2013, and I wanted to play on Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on this occasionally. So, I installed Windows 7 thanks to Boot Camp, but when I start the game, after 5 minutes my Mac is very hot, and the ventilators are making a lot of noise, I'm so afraid that the computer crash or burn really, even if I putted the worst resolution for the game, so I leave the game very quickly.
Do I have to update anything? Maybe Boot Camp? Or something else?

I think your MBP 13 is marginal for gaming video performance. It is working very hard to keep up with the games demands. There are not any upgrades for the video hardware. A 15" MBP has a discrete video card available the NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M which would perform well.

Hi all, I've bought the GX740 5 days ago and I've tried the Final Fantasy XIV benchmark and the open beta game......both of them never started to work....an error message occured that say "Final Fantasy XIV stopped to work" and it never log in .
I've upgraded the audio and video card.....not the bios .
The game and the benchmark give me the same problems .
What can I do ?

yes I've read about this from other people but the ffxiv open beta program must run well, i've tried it on another computer and it work......it's not working on my GX740

This game advertisement makes no mention of a promo code or subscription, yet the game displays a message on launch stating that it can't be played without entering the code.

Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn PS4 Pre-Orders

With the release of Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn on the PS4 next week, I know everyone is wondering about the status of the pre-order bonus. Customers that pre-order this game will receive early access, a Cait Doll Sith companion and a Moogle Cap to enhance your in-game experience (early access and DLC unlock token redeemable starting April 11, 2014).

I have an iMac running Lion and W7 with boot camp . It has been operating flawlessly until I went to reboot into Mac tonight. Screen went black, and system is unresponsive. I've tried force quitting and turning power off. Hard drive starts but that's it..

Hi Jane, your info may still be there, look in the Users folder at root of the drive, how many users are there there?
It sounds like this may have happened...
Return to default desktop, apparent "loss" of home directory, (it can happen spontaneously too)...

Running quicken on parallels vs boot camp

I am having to reinstall all of my programs as my hard drive failed. I'm curious whether to re download parallels to run my quicken for windows or should I use boot camp and instal there? I don't really know much about boot camp. Any experience and recommendations?

If Quicken is the only Windows app you'll be running then I would go with Parallels. Realize ypu need to reboot the Mac to get into Windows and then reboot to get back the Mac OS X when you use Boot Camp. For one or two apps it's not worth it.

Get the 2.2 Ghz with better graphics card. The Radeon 6750M is awesome!
Everything is so smooth and responsive, even with a 3D animated screensaver as a desktop.
Heck, you might be able to render in Windows in a virual machine software like VMFusion
VMFusion will even copy your Bootcamped Windows for a virtual machine in OS X.
I can play some 3D games in Windows in VM if they are lightweight.

Date and Time on Mac OS X and Windows XP running diffrently... (Boot Camp)

Why the time differently when i change OS? I was used network time server on my both OS, but the time still wrong after i changed operating system... How can i solve this problem?

The answer to your question lies within the Boot Camp Beta - Installation & Setup Guide. Under the Troubleshooting section on the last page. I quote:
My computer doesn’t always show the correct date and time.
The Windows XP and Mac OS X operating systems handle your computer’s date and time information differently, so the date and time may be different when you switch operating systems.
For best results, use a network time server. Resync the date and time whenever you switch operating systems.
To resync your date and time:
In Mac OS X, reset the option to “Set date & time automatically” in the Date & Time pane of System Preferences.
In Windows, click the Update Now button in the “Date and Time Properties” control panel.
Alternatively, you can manually set the correct date and time when you switch operating systems.

Can I run windows vista under lion boot camp?

I have an older install disk for windows vista that I need to install on my mac mini running lion. I tried to do it under the bootcamp install but it froze most of the way through it. Will this work? or does it have to be W7 only? Lastly, is there a work around without spending money?

i set up and installed windows XP on my mac mini..i have no idea how to switch from mac os x to windows other then restart and hold the option key down..i was wondering if it is possible to put windows in my mac os x dock, and if i can play windows based games on it..

Hi,
in order to use a BootCamp Windows you have to reboot your Mac. There is no other way.
You might wanna tryout BootPicker http://www.apple.com/education/resources/bootpicker/ instead of the Option-key.
To run Windows alongside OSx you have to use some Virtualization app, like the free VirtualBox or the commercial Parallels or VMWare Fusion.
But all of them are not really meant to run games.

Ever since September 3rd or 4th, whenever Square Enix took down their own servers for maintenance, there has been excruciating lag throughout the game. It is described as a constant 3-5 second delay causing rubberbands and basically hindering the game unplayable. Other ISP users in my area, such as Cox Communications are not experiencing these problems. There has been multiple posts about this on various websites. I wanted to bring it to the Verizon website to possibly gain some attention. Overall I am very happy with Verizon FiOS. Please help.

Here is some supporting date for this users complaint. I too am having the issue and spent a half hour or more with online tech support today with no comments other than "run this speed test" and "reboot your router".
The problem is obviously not directly on verizon's hardware, but it is someplace in between the Square-Enix servers and the Northern Va route to them.
There are probably 50-100 users alone actively complaining on the Square-Enix forums about issue in the northern va area with FiOS and this game, I'm going to assume the previous users posts highlight them.
The issue is now also coming up on reddit, not just NoVA users. However, the commonality are the TINET.NET routers on hops 8 and 9 in my example.
Verizon, please do anything you can to help resolve. The game provider is so overwhelmed with game launch issues, we're not getting much assistance otherwise.
LOVE my Verizon speed going everywhere else, just not to my FFXIV server...

I'm in Boston. My internet plan is FiOS 50/25. Ever since December 24th, whenever Square Enix took down their own servers for maintenance, there has been excruciating lag throughout the game. It is described as a constant 3-5 second delay causing rubberbands and basically hindering the game unplayable. It is more terrible in the night. Other ISP users in my area, such as Comcast are not experiencing these problems. I heard about it could be P2P throttling issues. Please help.

DRay, Yeah im getting the same thing, I have been battling with the same thing now for two weeks. I have made multiple calls to Verizon with little successful.
I have had my support ticket closed on me and I have been told the usual speil (give it time it will fix itself) and Verizon has no responsabiliy.beyond the 5th hop.
Sadly there is no relief.
I had a tech out here today who was given a service order to replace the ONT because the Level 2 network engineer didn't want to deal with the issue.
Square will not help you and will point back to your ISP (Verizon), Verizon will not help you with the issue and point towards Square (level 3 specifically in this case.
I welcome anyone with Verizon who actually wants to make a difference to a customer to reach out and work with me to get a ticket logged with your peering network Level 3 to resolve this issue but im not holding my breath.
Your best bet is to find someone elses wifi to jump onto when you're playing FF14.
If you really want to keep using FIOS, you will need to grab a service like WTFast which will allow you to tunnel your traffic via their service around the poor (or overloaded) switch at level 3.
Oh and don't even bother trying to call level 3, they will not help you

Headphones+Final Fantasy XIV sounds like a Cicada

This issue only happends when the headphones are turned on. When they are turned off the sound is just fine. Note this is a headphone+mic combo. Headphones are Sennheiser PC350. I only have this problme with this game.

What is the differences between running windows with parallels or boot camp?

I am a Drafting and Design student so I need Windows for AutoDesk programs Revit and Inventor. I have a Mid 2014 MacBook Pro 2.2 GHz 16GB.

A couple of differences which don't often get mentioned:
First, in Bootcamp, the size of the partition you create for Windows is fully taken over by Bootcamp. In a virtual machine, you can give Windows 100GB for the C: drive but if you're only using 20GB on it, that's about what gets taken up on your SSD - it expands and contracts based on actual use.
Second, a virtual machine is a file like most other files (actually, it's a collection of files in a folder) and that means you can duplicate it for backup purposes. You can also take snapshots to try things out and restore to the snapshot's state to eliminate everything done since the snapshot was taken. Try that with a real PC, or Bootcamp, which is pretty much the same thing.
