I'm running Firefox 7.0.1 on Windows 7 and it is more or less constant over 1.5 GB of memory utilization, twice as much as they early version 6.

Reading your comments I do not see that rolling back to an insecure Firefox 22 will actually help you much. You are probably best using IE, unless you have also damaged that.

You should not use old versions they are insecure. Security fixes are publicised and exploitable.

Most others will not be having such problems. We are now able to say that with confidence because after developers missed a regression in Firefox 4 telemetry was introduced so that data was obtained. It may be an idea to turn on your telemetry, if you have not already done so, and decide to stick with Firefox.

Trying safe mode takes seconds. Unfortunatly if you are not willing to do even rudimentary troubleshooting there is not anything we can do to help you.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

I am trying to download elements 5.0 onto my laptop that has windows seven. I get the message error 1335'data1.cab' missing. What can I do to get this to instal?
It looks like the CD is damaged. You could try copying the entire CD on to your hard disk in a temporary folder and then launch the setup.exe file by double clicking on it.
Can you do this? Please post back.
Whether 5 can run in Windows 7 is something I don't know. You just have to try it. -
I have a mid 2011 27 inch iMac and a late 2012 mac mini. I am using the 27 inch iMac as the display for the mac mini with a thunderbolt cable. I was trying to use bootcamp on the mini but after I started downloading windows I can't get it to display on the iMac.

Just above the textarea that you use to enter the message text there is usually a button bar with buttons to add text formatting like Bold and Italic.<br />
That toolbar may also have a button to turn a text link into a clickable hyperlink (look for a chain like button).<br />
You can select the text and click that button to turn the link into a clickable hyperlink.<br />
If you can't find the button then hover them all to check the tooltip of each.

Having trouble downloading Photoshop elements 12 on windows. Can't get past the installing sharing technologies part of the download. It just goes on for hours. Don't get error message but it won't finish download. Help please.

The "Add-Ons" screen should tell you whether the Norton 360 toolbar is disabled because of incompatibility with Firefox 4. If it is then you have two options:
- you can install the "Add-On Compatibility Reporter" plugin. That will let you enable the Norton toolbar even though it is not supported, but then the toolbar might not work as expected (and it might introduce other problems as well).
- or you can wait for Symantec to release a compatible version of the toolbar (recommended) -
How do I get the Norton 360 Toolbar & Identity Safe onto Firefox 4?
I cannot get the Identity Safe feature of Norton 360 onto my Firefox 4 toolbar. I tried configuring Norton 360 as per the FIrefox 4 instructions to no avail. it worked on Firefox 3.
I got Norton to recover my Norton 360 toolbar on Firefox 13; however, a day later it vanished as being incompatible. I tried the solution for Firefox 12, and that didn't work. This is a common problem with all Firefox versions. Why can't you fix it so it doesn't occur again?

Firefox opens up, but, this morning, I can't access any links via Firefox. I can via Explorer.
A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

I have tried re-setting Firefox and working in Safe Mode, but the problem still recurs. I use Fastmail as my webmail server and never had this problem on Windows XP or Windows 7. When I reply to a message, the original message is turned into html code. The same happens when I forward a message.
My JavaScript is up to date, in case that's relevant. The Fastmail support team suggested the problem would be Firefox-related.
The other function of my Fastmail account that isn't working properly in Firefox 17.0.1. is the search function.
Do I need to get new plugins or something? I don't know where the HTML editor is in Firefox or if that's what's wrong.

RachelThanks for your reply, cor-el. Norton 360 came pre-installed on the laptop as part of the package I bought. I haven't changed the pre-set firewall or anti-virus settings. Should I change something?
I will try rebooting in Windows Safe mode as you say and report if that makes any difference.

How do I get firefox to open a new window when i click on a link in a webpage ?
When I click on a link in a webpage in Firefox, generally it opens the new page in the window i am in (though some times it does not). How do I get it to open a new window (or tab) each time I click a link.
For example, on www.bbc.co.uk if I click on a link, the new page opens in the same window, if I then click another link in the new window, again, it opens in the same window. To get back to the original window, I have to use the back button twice. Surely there is a setting so that all 3 windows can be open on separate tabs or separate windows.
I have been to the tabs window in options, but doesn't seem to make a difference.Open link/bookmark in new tab in same window:

Sync wasn't intended to be a "cloud" storage device; it's intended to be used to "synchronize" a user's across multiple devices. Upon completion of the initial setup of Sync procedure, the user is shown the Recovery Key and is told to make a copy of that "key". There are buttons in the dialog window to "save" to disk or to "print" the Recovery Key. Unfortunately, too many users just ignored that message (or ignored it) and put themselves in the same position that you are now in - lost data and no way to recover that data.
The Sync / Recovery Key is used to encrypt your data as it is being uploaded to the Sync server and then used to decrypt your data when it is downloaded to one of your devices. Without the exact Sync Key that the user's data was encrypted with, the user's data is useless scrambled bunch of 1's and zero's.
Firefox 29 has a new version of Sync that eliminates the need for the user knowing their Recovery Key. The method that generates that "key" uses the user account name (email address) and the user password, so in the future user's shouldn't find themselves in the same position that you are now in.
