Running FMS 3.5.3 on Amazon EC2 (Windows 2008)

Hi All,
Does anyone know of any issues with running FMS on Amazon's EC2 Cloud environment?  We're running some live streaming applications, but are hearing reports from users of random disconnects.  Has anyone else run into this issue?  Thank you.
-Costin

Hi All,
We're getting some bad audio/video stuttering using EC2 instances.  Does anyone have any experiencing hosting FMS in "the cloud" and things that can be done to improve user experience?
Thanks,
-Costin

  • How to run a Lync Server 2013 in amazon ec2 Instance ?

    Hi Friends,
    I would like to install a Lync server 2013 in amazon ec2 instance. Let me know can i install Active Directory server, Lync Server 2013 and Media server in a single amazon instance ?. If it possible how can i do it ?. And is any other features need to install
    to get the fully functional Lync server. Please help me am newbie in Lync environment

    You can get Lync working in EC2 and I have lab'd his many times. Having said that the process isn't that straight forward (especially if you plan to do voice) a lot of planning and testing, specifically of the network would need to be undertaken.
    You can add multiple interfaces to an EC2 instance (see here http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-eni.html)
    If you're hard set on using EC2 you can get it to work, but I personally would look at Office 365 E4 or a small on-premise deployment depending on your requirements.

  • EM is not running for Oracle 10.2.0.5 on windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
    Recently, I installed oracle 10.2.0.4 on Windows 2008 R2 server followed by 10.2.0.5 patchset and 8350262 patch (to solve the problem of the expired certificate).
    After the installation, I created listener and database. The EM was working fine for few hours but not running after that. Listener was running all the times.
    I tried to to execute "emctl stop dbconsole" and "emctl start dbconsole".
    The EM worked again. However, it down again after few hours. I have repeated this process many times but still cannot resolve the this.
    I checked the logfiles in in the sysman/log. Herewith the output.

    Why are you bothering to install a de-supported version of Oracle?  10.2 is history and even 11.2 is at terminal release.  The bookies are taking money on when 12c will be released.
    When I googled "No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it."  I got many, many hits that look useful.

  • LCCS on Amazon EC2

    Is there a way to get LCCS to work on an Amazon EC2 instance? I'd like to have peer-to-peer video chat, using EC2 as the handshaking service--or is there a different preferred method of deployment?

    Ya I think you're a little confused on what LCCS is my friend - LCCS is an all-in-one solution.  It takes care of the whole conferencing problem with minimal code, making Adobe do all the heavy lifting.  FMS isn't used at all - I don't think it's even possible to use a combination of LCCS and FMS because that would be pointless - FMS already has handshake galore built-in.  The only reason you'd want to use FMS is because deploying your own FMS cluster in the long run might be cheaper than LCCS (but depending on what you're planning on doing, you'll probably have to write a lot more code to use FMS.)  LCCS is a god-send to this world because it costs nothing to deploy, is ridiculously simple, and is still insanely competitive.
    If I understand your problem (and I face a similar one) is that you want to have video chat but do not want to pay bandwidth fees?  Unfortunately there's no such thing as a free lunch and you're still going to have to pay some bandwidth fees, just not much - LCCS will take care of the handshake (which you'll pay for) if you force peer-only but then the video is free.  This isn't necessarily smart, however, because:
    1. Peer-only doesn't always work because of network conditions.
    2. You can't broadcast a peer-to-peer video session to lots of people (not sure when your use-case is.)
    3. You can't record the video sessions if you do this (pretty sure this is true, need to double check.)
    Anyways, good luck - LCCS is the bomb. If you're trying to minimize your fees, I would just try to force all connections to be peer-only and then pay for the guys where it doesn't work.  User experience is everything - users don't want to see they can't use your service because of some technical difficulty.

  • Can I Manage virtual machines using SCCM? What about Amazon ec2 instances?

    Hi All,
    As part of my lab environment, I would like to discover and manage virtual machines within ESXi platform and a few on Hyper-V. As part of this,
    1] Do we need SC-VMM to create/discover/manage virtual machines or can this be done by using just SCCM 2012 module?
    2] Does SCCM provide any connectors to public cloud services (ex: Amazon EC2 or Google Cloud services)? Can this be done using SCCM?
    Any help on this would be appreciated. thanks

    Thanks Jason.
    A few follow up questions just to make sure I understand you correctly:
    a] Statement: I understand SCCM can manage OS within any VM (I just realized my set up has discovered 2 VM's running Win 2008 OS via AD discovery method). My confusion began after going thru SC-VMM docs. I assumed, once you have SC-VMM set up, it will discover/manage
    either ESXi servers or Citrix or other vendor hypervisors and then discover VM's within the hypervisors. But as you said, SCCM can manage OS within any VM.
    b] Q: my sccm set up is part of domain 'A' and its discovering systems/users as part of domain 'A'. Is there a way to discover systems as part of domain 'B'? When I look into 'discovery methods' -> Active directory system discovery -> Add a new container
    -> path -> select a new container -> it selects only domain 'A'
    As a result I'm not able to add a secondary domain for system discovery. IS this how its supposed to be? Discovery runs only within one domain? (or) am I missing something here?
    c] When you said 'Yes, I do think (I'm not familiar with all things VMM though) that there is a connector to EC2', did you mean a connector from SCCM or a connector from VMM component?
    thanks again for all the help.

  • Deploy ADF Fusion Web Application on Amazon EC2 Weblogic

    Hi,
    I am trying to deploy ADF Fusion Web Application (developed using JDev) on Amazon EC2 Weblogic app server but with no success.
    Can anyone enlighten me how to deploy ADF Fusion Web App on Amazon EC2 Weblogic?
    Thanks for kind assistance!

    Hi,
    Thanks for your prompt assistance.
    I managed to run "wls_jumpstart" but I am unable to start the console even though I have created a domain.
    I cannot find any instructions anywhere about deploying ADF Fusion Web Apps on Amazon EC2 Weblogic or any case studies of success anywhere.
    Hence, I am not sure if ADF Runtime is available on the Weblogic on Amazon EC2. Can you please help me in this area as well?
    It will be great if you can point me to some instructions on how to load web apps to Amazon EC2 Weblogic as I am quite new to both JDev and Amazon EC2.
    Thanks.

  • Oracle VM templet for Peoplesoft on Amazon EC2

    Has someone successfully setup Oracle VM templet for Peoplesoft on Amazon EC2. I am able to login but the database or app servere setup are not launching automatically and i am getting no clue how to run the setup ?

    Same here. I expected the set up scripts to run as documented in the VM documentation.

  • ASM installation on RHEL 6.4 in Amazon EC2

    I thought I'd perform an installation of 12cR1 to do a little testing. So I launched a new instance in Amazon EC2 and picked an AMI for 64-bit RHEL 6.4.
    All started smoothly, but I've got stuck preparing a disk for ASM.
    My first plan was to install ASMLIB. I see from the documentation that I need kmod-oracleasm (kmod-oracleasm-2.0.6.rh1-2.el6.x86_64.rpm), and that this is in the RHEL supplementary channel.
    $ yum repolist all
    Loaded plugins: amazon-id, refresh-packagekit, rhui-lb, security
    repo id                                            repo name                                                          status
    rhel-source                                        Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6Server - x86_64 - Source                 disabled
    rhel-source-beta                                   Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6Server Beta - x86_64 - Source            disabled
    rhui-REGION-client-config-server-6                 Red Hat Update Infrastructure 2.0 Client Configuration Server 6    enabled:      3
    rhui-REGION-rhel-server-releases                   Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (RPMs)                           enabled: 10,994
    rhui-REGION-rhel-server-releases-optional          Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 Optional (RPMs)                  enabled:  6,250
    rhui-REGION-rhel-server-releases-optional-source   Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 Optional (SRPMs)                 disabled
    rhui-REGION-rhel-server-releases-source            Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 6 (SRPMs)                          disabled
    repolist: 17,247
    $ rhn-channel --add --channel=rhel-x86_64-server-supplementary-6
    Username:
    ^C
    Does Amazon EC2 provide the RHEL supplementary channel, and if so what credentials do I need to provide? Otherwise I guess I would need my own RHN subscription, which seems expensive for a self-learning instance.
    So my second plan was to avoid ASMLIB and implement udev rules.
    I created a 64GiB volume and attached it to the instance as /dev/sdh. On the instance it appears as /dev/xvdl:
    $ fdisk -l /dev/xvdl
    Disk /dev/xvdl: 68.7 GB, 68719476736 bytes
    255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 8354 cylinders
    Units = cylinders of 16065 * 512 = 8225280 bytes
    Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    I/O size (minimum/optimal): 512 bytes / 512 bytes
    Disk identifier: 0xf4c9fedb
        Device Boot      Start         End      Blocks   Id  System
    /dev/xvdl1               1        8354    67103473+  83  Linux
    $ sudo scsi_id -g -u -d /dev/xvdl
    $
    So scsi_id doesn't return a value to use in the udev rule. I've found references to this which suggest setting disk.EnableUUID. Is this option available in Amazon EC2 at all? Or is there an alternative way of getting a UUID for the disk?
    Any help with these questions, or suggestions for alternative solutions, would be much appreciated.
    Thanks
    Mike

    Did you try this command ?

  • Questions about BPM 11gR1 on Amazon EC2

    Hi,
    I have started image ami-c241aaab (oracle-soa-bpm-11gr1-ps2-4.2-pub) on Amazon EC2, using a spot request.
    When I terminate this image an start it again, using a spot request, a new EBS volume is created.
    Is that right?
    I am able to connect to it using Putty.
    After the SOA suite is started I am able to connect to it locally (using telnet localhost 7001 for instance)
    But I am not able to connect to it remotely
    (I did add the following to my default security group
    - tcp - 7001 - 7001 - 0.0.0.0/0)
    What am I missing here?
    see http://blogs.oracle.com/SOA/2009/10/soa_suite_on_ec2_-_draft.html?msgid=8295995&eid=3915339734&lid=2
    and http://blogs.oracle.com/bpm/2010/06/bpm_11gr1_now_available_on_ama.html
    Groeten,
    HJH

    Instances launched using Spot Requests can only be terminated and can't be restarted. For you to be able to restart the same instance you need to stop it not terminate it. This is only possible if you launch it normally (not a spot request)
    As for your inability to connect to the WebLogic server remotely, if you are behind a corporate firewall, ensure that port 7001 for http/https is allowed. Other than that there is nothing that occurs to me since you seem to have setup your security group properly, at least for port 7001. So you should be able to access Enterprise Manager and WebLogic Console. For other applications, you also need to add ports 8001 and 8888 and 1521.

  • Oracle 10xe on Amazon EC2 - pricing

    Hello
    I want to try creating an Oracle 10gXE on the Amazon EC2 for proof of concept, which means I need it to be free or close to
    I've created my Amazon EC2 setup, and checked the pricing which i believe is close to 0 as long as the load is very little
    Now I want to create my Oracle 10gXE database using the provided AMI, but I'm not sure about the pricing.
    Do you now if I will be charged anything from Oracle doing this, and if so, how much?
    And how much will this setup impact my EC2 usages, hence how much will Amazon charge me for doing the POC?
    I only need ballpark figures, but as mentioned I only have been given a small budget to do a proof of concept on this setup, so it's important to me that I don't go over budget
    Best regards
    Klaus

    Oracle 10gXE is free, Oracle does not charge you any fees.
    To start with Amazon, you can have a free EC2 Micro instance which is suitable for Oracle 10gXE. Amazon offers this instance for new customer as free and i think it's for one year.
    You safe if you use 10gXE and AWS Micro instance.

  • Running FMS on Virtual Server

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run FMS 2.0.4 on Centos 4.3 on a VPS. It can
    install fine, contrary to many CentOS users I read about on the
    forum. However, when I start it, I seem to lose all connectivity
    whatsoever. Very weird. I have tried countless tcpdumps and lsof
    and netstat and after days of debugging I still cannot find the
    problem.
    I am wondering if someone else has experienced the same
    problem as me, and what did you do to fix it.
    Thank you anyone :))

    IF you want to run the Forms from the IDS, installed on the Developer's PC, then you use the default OC4J that comes with it.
    On the developer's PC, you can go to the $ORACLE_HOME/install/portslist.ini to check which port number your HTTP server is.
    In the Forms runtime preferences you use http://localhost:{port number}/forms/frmservlet
    On the developer's PC you then run "Start OC4J" to start the HTTP server, once the server is started then you try again running your Form from the builder.
    Don't confuse Application Server with IDS which has its own OC4J, the first one runs on the server and the latter on a developer's PC.
    Why don't you want developers to use their own OC4J?

    Hi , I am facing the same issue...could you help me with steps that you followed to resolve this?

  • Looking for deployment instructions PeopleSoft AMI instances on Amazon EC2

    I am looking for deployment instructions on how to launch PeopleSoft AMI instances on Amazon EC2 platforms. There are many AMIs posted by both Oracle and Amazon together to deploy demo environment, and no where I found the installation/deployment instructions. Template instructions for the following AMIs is pointing to Oracle VM page, not Amazon's AWS instructions.
    https://aws.amazon.com/amis?ami_provider_id=4&selection=ami_provider_id
    Please help!

    We're certainly aware of and interested in our customers' desire to use Amazon's infrastructure for a quick and inexpensive deployment of PeopleSoft for demo or pilot purposes. Please continue to use this forum to provide any feedback regarding Oracle applications, particularly PeopleSoft, deployed on Amazon EC2. We have appreciated the feedback we've seen regarding PeopleSoft OVM Templates. This forum has demonstrated the interest and enthusiasm customers and users have for PeopleSoft and virtualization.
    As you are aware, Oracle has a number of broad statements regarding support for our products on the Amazon infrastructure. We are still reviewing the business and technical complexities associated with Oracle-built and delivered AMI's available directly from Amazon compared with our customers using our OVM images for deployment on Amazon's infrastructure. There is no official ETA for FSCM 9.1 and HCM 9.1 AMI's from Oracle.

  • Apache not working  with FMS 4.5 on Windows 2008

    FMS 4.5.1 Windows 2008 SP2 (64bit).
    I've searched everywhere for a possible solution to this, so my apologies if this has been asked before and my thanks for any potential help that anyone can offer to help resolve this.
    We are deploying Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5.1 on a new server but Apache does not work (does not serve html files or stream Quicktime H.264 files).
          Assorted Problems & Error messages:
    1.  The webroot/index.html page loads locally, but the HLS/HDS streams result in a 2032 error.
    2. The webroot/index.html page does not load from  external locations:
         http://63.116.232.5/index.html (does not load externally).
         http://63.116.232.6/index.html (our old server, FMS 4.0 and Windows 2003). Everything on this server works, the 2 major differences being that it is running FMS 4.x on Windows 2003.
    Some RTMP streaming works externally and internally (f4v files):
    http://www.librarymedia.net/flash/player.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.5/vod/mp4:sample1_1 50kbps.f4v
    FMS does not stream Quicktime H.264 files even though f4v files work.
       New server (does not work): http://www.librarymedia.net/flash/player.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.5/vod/mp4:Basketbal l.mov
                                  (f4v works): http://www.librarymedia.net/flash/player.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.5/vod/mp4:sample1_1 50kbps.f4v
    Old server (Quicktime/H.264 file works): http://www.librarymedia.net/flash/player.html?source=rtmp://63.116.232.6/vod/mp4:Basketbal l.mov
    Apache does not serve Quicktime/H.264 files: I made sure that Apache had all of the correct mime types specified.
        Error messages and attempted solutions:
    Apache's erro_log file:
           a. httpd.exe: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName
    2. FMS master.log file
          a. FMSHttpd -k start returned 1:
    Solutions: http://wiki.apache.org/httpd/CouldNotDetermineServerName
    1a:  Edited httpd.conf file to include ServerName 63.116.232.5
    1b: The presence of this error message also indicates that Apache httpd was unable to obtain a fully-qualified hostname by doing a reverse lookup on your server's IP address.
    In order for the server to accept external connections a reverse DNS lookup needs to be created. I created a reverse DNS lookup and  edited the /etc/hosts file to include the IPaddress, Fully Qualified Domain Name (FQDN), shortname.
    This is the format suggested by the article:
    127.0.0.1       localhost.localdomain   localhost       foo.example.com
    Running the nbtstat -a 63.116.232.5 command on the machine results in the following:
    WIN-8AIHI2J0524<00>  UNIQUE      Registered
    THS-LIBRARY-VOD<00>  GROUP       Registered
    THS-LIBRARY-VOD<1C>  GROUP       Registered
    WIN-8AIHI2J0524<20>  UNIQUE      Registered
    THS-LIBRARY-VOD<1B>  UNIQUE      Registered
    So the FQDN = WIN-8AIHI2J0524.Ths-library-vod.local
    I edited the /etc/hosts to the following (with versions using the local host ip 127.0.0.1 and the external ip address, IPv4 is being used):
    63.116.232.5 WIN-8AIHI2J0524.Ths-library-vod.local
    # The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
    ::1 localhost ip6-localhost ip6-loopback
    fe00::0 ip6-localnet
    ff00::0 ip6-mcastprefix
    ff02::1 ip6-allnodes
    ff02::2 ip6-allrouters
    ff02::3 ip6-allhosts
    I've also read Adobe's port configuration articles and  changed the ports that Apache and FMS use as specified in the conf/fms.ini file, but nothing has worked so far. I restored everything to the original settings until I can find out exactly how to fix this.
    Thank you.

    Ms. Apurva ,
    I changed the files back as you suggested (the failure was occuring with the default settings) and our admin assured me yesterday that the ports that I inquired about were open. I'll ask him again.
    The telenet command for both ports 80 and 1935 result in Connect failed for me. I'll check Windows Firewall (turned off)  and McAfee to see if there is anything there blocking ports.
    Confirm that external connections are blocked: 63.116.232.5/index.html (does not open outside of localhost). No problem accessing with our old server (63.116.232.6/index.html).
    I ran this command in nmap and here are the results (11 ports closed): nmap 63.116.232.5 -Pn80
    Starting Nmap 6.01 ( http://nmap.org ) at 2012-07-06 08:29 Eastern Standard Time
    Nmap scan report for 63.116.232.5
    Host is up (0.00092s latency). nmap -p 80 says that the host is down (for both ports).
