Running Incopy CS5 on Terminal/RDP server

Hi. Im running Adobe Incopy on a terminal server 2003. My problem is when I log off, the session hangs and must be disconnected by the admin (me). The app that hangs is CS5ServiceManager.exe. I cant find the exe anywhere, and I dont know what it does. Anyone have this problem or any idear how to resolve it?

Yes. Very basic solution is to find the CS5ServiceManager.exe file and rename it, ex.: OLD_CS5ServiceManager.exe. Then it does not start up with the Incopy software and the logon problem is gone.

There is no Antivirus
Windows Firewall is turned off.
I tried with a Local administrator acount, and a Domain administrator account.
I ran the installation file as an Administrator (Run as administrator)
I installed the same copy on a Windows 7 computer, and it went fine.
I appreciate your help.

Windows Server is not a supported O/S as far as I know.

Compile problem running jdev on Windows Terminal Server

I am experiencing problems compiling java source files in jdev 9.0.3.1035
Sometimes the class file is not created if i make (compile) only one source file.
The jdev is running on a Windows Terminal Server 2000.
The sources are on the same Terminal Server.
The classes should be compiled to the Terminal Server as well.
I am working on a Terminal session elsewhere.
Anyone had this problem before ?

NXServer running as rdp server

I have set up a functioning NXServer server on a headless server. I would like it to accept RDP connections also, without opening any extra ports (other than 22). If this is impossible without opening up an additional port for RDP, that would be acceptable but not preferable. Following all the guides I can find, NXServer should work as an RDP server out of the box (possibly with enabling options in the node.conf file). However I cannot get it to accept RDP connections. I don't have time right now to post all my cfg files and log output etc (I can later). Any ideas? Am I wrong that it should be ready to go? What specific settings do I need to change? I know I set the rdesktop command in the node.conf file. Thanks!

There's no problem running without a display. If you're trying to remote access the computer and the desktop resolution isn't what you want, you can use SwitchResX to manually set it to the resolution you want.

InCopy CS5 crashes when clicking in text view

Hi folks,
I am running into a reproducable bug on and on:
Environment is as follows:
InDesign CS5 - Layouttool
InCopy CS5 - Editor's Tool
All "hosted" on woodwing enterprise 7 Server
My Case:
I have an InDesign Layout with two pages. On both pages is text.
I checked in to woodwing server the texts from both pages into one article Element.
When I check out the Article with InCopy, everything seems to work fine until I click into the text section that was not activated before in textview Mode (Means changing between the two sections). Then InCopy crashes each time.
When I am doing the same in Layout view, no crash occurs!
Any hints?

Looking for a RDP server for Mac...

Hi,
I would like to remotely control a Mac from my Windows machine.
My company guidelines will not allow me to use any VNC-based tool.
RDP would be the best protocol for me since it's been used to remotely control Windows clients as well.
I need a simple, point-to-point solution : Aqua Connect Terminal Server is too heavy, and their Remote Desktop Agent hasn't been released yet.
xrdp does not seem to compile on Mac OS X 10.5 so I can't test it.
iRapp includes an "iRDP" server but the performances are very low.
Would you know any other RDP server I could install on my Mac ?

Well controlling the PC from the Mac on the same subnet is as easy on the Mac by using the free Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection.
Now the tricky part is going back to the Mac from the PC. I don't really know of a way so if other know they should speak up. Plus it would help if you told us what is running on the PC.

Why a DNS if using RDP server?

I just installed the 2012R2 120 day demo in a virtual machine to practice with. I noticed that when I went to enable RDP server (Terminal services or Remote Desktop services) that it said I have to have a DNS installed too.
Question: why?
Is this something new? My customers with Windows servers only have one server, so no fall over. And I always use a fixed I.P. on my servers (lock the MAC address into the DHCP daemon too). When I have configured RDP clients (rdesktip, mstsc,
etc.) I have always used the straight I.P. address of the RDP server. I really, really like to keep my Windows servers as simple as possible. If not necessary, I really don't want them running a DNS server. (Usually, if I run an internal
DNS, I run BIND as a caching server and link it to a DHCP server daemon over on a Red Hat server. Very fast and very slick. You have to learn "vi", the text editor from h--- though.)

RDS also requires Active Directory, which also requires DNS. Of course, you can run DNS for a domain on a bind server - it just takes more to set up and requires additional management afterwards because it is not integrated with AD.

So, if I don't install Active Directory (AD) and just use standard user accounts, then RDP without DNS. But if I use AD, then I have to use DNS. Thank you. That answers another question about setting up AD for a customer that wants to be
able to do and see anything from any workstation. (He thinks he can do it with an i3 server, one 4 G memory stick, an a SATA 300 drive too. Oh DUDE!)
Why DNS for AD? Does AD need to know the I.P.'s of the workstations? Why does it need to know anything I.P. wise about anyone else except itself? (I really want to keep things simple.)

Not a typo. RDS is remote desktop services. RDP is remote desktop protocol. These names are both used when discussing a server which hosts remote desktops.
Now, running AD on an i3 will not be a problem with 4GB of ram. If all he has is a small domain with a handful of clients, it will be more than fast enough.
AD needs DNS because Windows uses DNS to locate AD resources. For example, when a workstation wants to perform a logon, it will contact the DNS server to request the IP address of a computer providing domain controller functionalities (such as kerberos for
example). Or when domain controllers need to replicate, they use DNS to locate each other. AD depends on DNS completely.

Photoshop CS5.1 and Lion Server (MacMini Mid 2011)

I have a very big problem using Photoshop CS5.1 (Mac Mini Server-Edition Mid 2011, Lion 10.7.2) - there are several mouse-pointer issues when I try to work with brushes or stamps. Depending on the size of the brush it's not shown the correct way. The icon does not show the brush itself and when I try to use the brush the mouse pointer is not the center of the brush but the uper left corner. If I zoom into the image it's possible that the same brush is working the way it should be but if I zoom out the brush does not work again. The issue seems to depend on brush size and zoom-factor of the image.
My idea for better understanding of the problem was to record the screen activity with QuickTime. I did but as I watched the recorded photoshop activity looked perfect (allthough it did not as I recorded the actions). Now I recorded the screen activity with a movie camera, just to show, what's wrong here. Please excuse the not so perfect video quality...

Very similar problem in Lightroom, mouse pointer do not work the correct way depending on brush size (brish icon is not shown in image depending on size).
Adobe does not offer support for the Server-Edition. Apple does not allow to install 10.6 on Mac Mini Mid 2011 (on my MBP Early 2011 PS CS 5.1 runs without such problems). Something's going wrong here.
I need a solution, Photoshop CS5.1 is not useable under 10.7.2 Server. Anyone may help?

thank you for your answer. First of all: Adobe says that it's an Apple problem. Apple says that I'm not allowed to install any other OS than Lion Server on my machine - even the "normal" Lion OS seems to be not allowed.
For me as a customer this situation is not very satisfying - I try to run a 1500$ software suite on a 1000$ Apple computer and it does not work, but nobody even tries to solve this issue. Adobe offers no support, Apple offers no bug fixes.
This problem, btw, also appears when a MacBook Air is used. Even some MacBook Pros seem to be unable to run Phootshop CS5.1 under Lion. For me this does not look like an Lion server-issue.

This ONLY happens when working with files on a network share (eiter UNC or mapped drive letter). Copying the same files locally (c:\temp for example) works just fine. Not knowing much about CS5, I obtained the files the tester was working with. There are two fonts missing from the story / project that get replaced with the default font, and it was created with CS3. Wouldn't suspect corrupt files if working with them locally doesn't have the problem...
For installation, first is the base code from the CS5 disk followed by updates including Bridge 4.0.3, InCopy 7.0.3, Player for Embedding 3.1, Extended Script Toolkit 3.5.1, CS Live Services Update for CS5, and Photoshop Camera Raw 6.2. All Adobe products are up to date according to the Adobe Applicaiton Manager. Yes, the workstations have been rebooted.
I don't see anything related in the support forums or through a google search. Looking for assistance troubleshooting / resolving. Thanks in advance.

That is a sign that your preference files are becoming corrupt. Something is wrong with your system if this is happening regularly.

InDesign CS6 not compatible with InCopy CS5?

Hi,
We've recently upgraded our designer to have the latest edition of the creative suite (CS6), but we've left our editors with their versions of InCopy CS5.... and we've run into a problem.
We get an error message when the editor is trying to open an InDesign layout file in InCopy so they can edit the assignments. DOes anyone know if there is a way to fix the issue without upgrading all of our InCOpy licences to CS6?

How to calculate number of threads running on Windows 2000 terminal?

How to calculate number of threads running on Windows 2000 terminal for the oracle process?
I have installed Oracle 9i DataBase with 6 patch(9.2.0.6.0) on Windows 2000 Terminal.
But,after database is started up, when i check up the sessions in v$session view.
It is showing like for SYSTEM osuser alone, 10 ORACLE.EXE sessions running on this server machine in active state.
Why it is creating 10 ORACLE.EXE sessions for a single Oracle Server.

Here, It shows 10 sessions are running.
Whether this means 10 threads are running on the particular server or not?

InCopy CS5 doesn't Launch kern_protection_failure

Despite reinstalls, reboots, adobe clean scripts, rapid release updates... InCopy won't launch. And Ext. Mgr launches, but into an unusable state. The rest of the CS5 suite runs fine, but on quitting those apps, they "crash".
ANy ideas?

Sorry for your troubles! I know that can be frustrating.
This is not an Adobe-staffed support source, so I don't know who'd be able to parse the runic code you posted ... ;D
But I'm wondering if you've tried creating a test user account (admin level) on that Mac, logged in, and tried to replicate the prob. If you can replicate it, there's a prob with the OS itself, some sort of conflict. But every time I've tried this, the test account works fine .... which means the problem in the user's Library folder.
