Running iphone and ipod form one itune programme. How

I have had an Ipod for a number of years 20gb. My son has just passed on to me a 3gb iphone. How do I run both the iphone and Ipod from the same itune's programme. I want to take off a number of songs from the Iphone and download some of my own as he has two many on the Iphone

That's what we thought too:
But the iPod (which we have always used only for music) now contains 18.5 GB of audio, 37.3 GB of "Other", according to the capacity reading when we hook up the iPod to iTunes.  It is 0.28 GB over capacity, and we can't complete a sync anymore.
We're assuming that the "Other" content must be some sort of material from the iPhone, which we started syncing using iTunes last October.  To be honest, we have not been able to figure out what "Other" is:  nothing on the iPod tells us what's used up by that 37 GB, and nothing on iTunes tells us when the iPod is synched.
Ideas much appreciated

    Hi jhyiesla,
Im not sure wether I got you right or not. But my advice/s would be as follows:
These steps help you get rid of old apps you downloaded years ago and you do not use anymore.(Also frees space on your mac after emptying the trash)
    1) go to iTunes and delete all applications in it. Make sure to move them to trash! Do not empty your trash yet. Its your backup if step 3 doesnt appear.
    2) connect both your devices(one after each other) and make a backup. !!!Dont press the Sync button, press the Back Up Now Button
    3) Then it asks you if you want to backup applications as well. Confirm. (This is how apps get transferred manually)
    4) Then Sync your devices... The first time it might be, that there are some additional apps loaded to your devices you dont want to.. delete them on your Device (not iTunes) and after that you should be good every time you sync again.
    5) now you can empty your trash on your mac.
    Further,
    - You should regularly connect your devices with iTunes to make sure they are backed up. (Even if you have activated iCloud backup, the iTunes backup is more proper i.e.. Apps)
    - If you hate scrolling through a list of apps in iTunes, you can re/install apps directly on iOS not via iTunes. I absolutely never go to the "Applications" section in iTunes. I install and delete apps directly on iOS.

  • IPhone AND iPod on one machine

Hi! I've searched around, but can't find the answer to this. I already have an 80 gb iPod, and I was going to get an iPhone today. Will I be able to sync my iPhone and keep using my iPod on the same machine (same iTunes account)?
I have 40gbs of music and stuff, and would prefer to only sync my pictures to my iPhone (and of course contacts, calendar, mail), but ALL my ipod stuff to the ipod...
    Thanks

the iPhone and iPod appear as separate devices on iTunes.
You choose what to sync your iPhone with on iTunes (music, pics, podcasts, videos). When you run iPhone on Itunes, it runs completely independent from the iPod.
Right now, I have both connected to my PB.

  • IPhone and IPod on one windows machine

I have the IPhone and now my son has an older IPod. So my question is, can I run both under one ITunes account, he is 9 and I really dont want to have to give him an account.

Yes you can, iTunes will recognise each iPhone or iPod that you connect as a unique device and they will have each their own individual settings. You can add content to both of them from the same library.

  • Iphone and ipod on one mac-pro.

I ordered my iphone today, it should be here within 10-21 days, I hope.....my question is this. My wife has all of her songs in itunes on our mac-pro, I am planning on using this same computer for my iphone. I don't want all of her music on my iphone, and she will not want my music on her ipod. We have completely different musical tastes. I this going to pose a problem for us? Should I have her move her music onto her laptop or on to the other hard-drive I have on this mac-pro with windows set up for her. I would appreciate any help on this one, I want to be prepared when my iphone gets here.

You won't have to move any of her music onto a different hard drive or even on to a windows PC. If you go into System Preferences, you can click on accounts and will be able to add a new user in the left pane. This way it's like having two separate Macs, none of your music will mix with hers and vice versa. Hope this helps.

  • Sync iPhone and iPod on same iTunes?

I just got a new iPhone. All of the instructions say to download iTunes but I already have iTunes for my iPod. When I connect my iPhone, it should sync with my existing iTunes (I think).
After my iPhone syncs with my iTunes, will my iTunes still recognize my iPod? I want to keep the iPod up to date with my music since it is a component in my home sound system.
I cannot find any help topics that address this. I am concerned that my iTunes will not want to recognize more than one device.
If anyone knows the answer please let me know asap! Thanks!

iTunes will recognize any number of iPods and iPhones. However, you MUST have the latest version of iTunes so if you have not yet upgraded it to v 7.5 do so.
The only limitation (and it is for iPhones only) is that all iPhones synced to the same iTunes library must have the same options set. This is NOT true for iPods.

  • I currently have and Iphone and Ipad on one Itunes account. My work is providing me with another work Ipad to link with my Iphone.  Do I need to create another account to keep things seperate?

I currently have a personal iPad and an iPhone linked to one iTune account. My employeer is providing me with a work iPad to use and this will be linked to my iPhone, should I create a second account for the work iPad?

Existing apps and content would not be automatically downloaded. You'd have to download apps and music manually, or sync them from a computer.  New purchases would be automatically downloaded if you set the iPad to do that. Otherwise, again, you'd have to manually download or sync from iTunes.
    Regards.

  • I already have an ipad, iPhone and iPod on my iTunes.  Can I add my wife's iPhone to my iTunes?

I already use iTunes for iPhone4, iPad and iPod classic.  Can I add another iPhone4 now my wife has one?  If I already set up an Apple ID for her, do I now need to keep the two separate or can I simply erase that Apple ID and put all devices and Itunes through the one Apple ID/iTunes?

It's alright, I don't have a Mac so I get confused too. The option key should be somewhere to the left of the space bar and look like it is trying to represent railway points.
I don't know how migration assistant works, but presumably it has dumped an iTunes folder somewhere on the Mac. Inside that should be a file called iTunes Library.itl that is the core of the library. Unfortunately iTunes "thinks different" so we can't just double click the file to open it, that opens whatever the "current" library is instead, so you'll need to hold down option (shift for Windows) to get a dialog to choose or create a library. Click choose and browse to the relevant file.
If iTunes can't play your music at this point and gives the exclamation mark of doom then we need to go back to the Windows 7 library, tweak it up for easy export then bring it over again. Overview here. Customized instructions on request.

  • Both iPhone and iPad in one iTunes account - what am I missing?

I have an iTunes account that I use to sync both my iPad and my iPhone. I think this problem has always been there, but it almost seems worse now.  Mostly I don't connect either device to my Mac, but occasionally do, like today when I'm trying to use it to load in the new iOS version. And, yes, I realize that I don't have to connect to the Mac in order to do the upgrade. I don't download and install most apps to both devices. Usually I'm buying an app that I intend to use on only one device. For example I put books in the iPad book store, but won't on my iPhone because of the size of the screen.  I do the same with games that work better on a larger screen.  Some apps I will do both - some utilities or things like TV guide or apps that make sense on both devices.
The problem arise when I attempt  to hook a device to my Mac and sync. I always have to go through the  ever growing list of apps in iTunes because it seems that iTunes mixes them together in some order I can't fathom.  With one device plugged in, I'll see all of the apps there plus many other ones, some show installed while others do not and it seems to have nothing to do with whether the app is actually installed or not.  If I don't spend time culling through them I end up with apps being removed or, more likely, added to a device I don't want them on. Then I have to spend time removing them.
I guess I'd think that iTunes would remember what I had on a particular device the last time I had it connected and ONLY those app until I sync which should transfer apps back and forth between the device and my Mac - but that seems to not be the case.
Is this just the way it works, or am I missing something?

  • IPhone and iPod on same iTunes library

I'm interested in a iPhone 3G, currently have a iPod classic. I need to have my iTunes library stored on both. The iPod is used for the car. Because the connection for the iPod is in the glove box, I have to have both to be able to easily use the phone in the car. Is this possible?

I ahve both an iPod and an iPhone, bith synce to the same iTunes libary, granted the phone cannot sync everything given it's 16GB limitation, but you can certainly use both without a problem.

  • IPhone and iPod on one account (issue not answered from archive search)

I have searched previous forum posts for this topic, but I haven't found an appropriate answer to my specific query.
A few weeks ago I bought an iPod nano 8G Gen5 and today I have picked up a 16G 3G iPhone (new). I am new to these products and have heard itunes doing weird things with erasing files etc.
Before I do too much syncing and regret what I do and cause no end of hassles, I just want to get this clarified.
So.... the music I have copied to the computer is synced and stored on my ipod. Can I sync that same music to the iPhone without it affecting the iPod?
Basically, can you sync the same content on itunes to both an ipod and an iphone connected on the same account? (obviously iphone applications can't be synced on iPod, but music and photos can be played and viewed on both of course)
I hope I've explained my issue well enough?
    Thanks

Yes. I have multiple iPods on multiple computers all synced to the same account. Enjoy.

    paradoks

In order to develop & create apps for the iPod touch/iPhone, you need to be a registered developer, download the iPhone SDK (Mac OS only) here -> http://developer.apple.com/iphone/program/download.html then create the app and submit it to Apple.

  • Twitter account hacked now Ipad, iPhone, and iPod all F-up.  How doe i fix this?

Twitter account was hacked. They put the twitter name up for auction, somehow they got into my iPhone, iPad, and son's iPod.  I know from reading the boards that everyone who says they got hacked is told it can't happen but it has.  Nothing is "jailbroken" nor has any device been outside of your physical control. Everyone's iPad is wireless only with no external carriers (AT&T, etc).  No one has ever physically been connected to my router (Airport Extreme).  And yet someone has gathered personal information.  On my son's iPod he was having fun writting nonsensical random letters typed in notes (he is 8).  When we just looked at his iPod to see if it was hacked as well, we found hidden words in the random text.  Things like sex or sexing even GmbH which is the German symbol for a German Limited Liability Company.  It was properly capitalized in the exact order in the prior sentence which is the proper use of the abbreviation. I believe in random walks but that was no accident and eight year olds aren't into limited liability abbreviations.  My wife keeps getting crazy messages and my Mac Mini is running slow.  Forgot to mention son's iPod was set up using wifes e-mail account (same as Twitter account) I have done all of the following:
Swept all computers with Avast! and my work PC with Malwarbytes.  No infections show up.
    Cleaned all cache and history's.
Went into Safari preferences and removed all cookies.  There was a bunch, but the strange thing is after wipping it clean 2 to 4 would always re-appear even after i check ALWAYS block cookies in the privacy section.
I reset my wife's iPad, iPhone to factory settings.
I erased old network connection and passwords, which by the way was set already at WPA2.  New Home base and Network names and random generator to set new password (lower/upper case, numbers, and symbols).
I cross referenced all IP addresses of our devices with the DHCP.  By the way the old operating system made this a lot easier FYI.
So does anyone have any additional suggestions and anyone wish to tell me i am making this up?
    Thanks

I'm assuming this is the iPod Touch, since that is the only iPod that accesses the iTunes store. I would recommend you post this here https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipod/ipod_touch
