Running itunes problem..

I can't run my itunes, every time I open it stopped working. window support says it's due to data execution prevention. I followed these steps :
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=11964647&#11964647
but I'm missing the QuickTime.qtp file. it's not there..
now the itune can be openned but every time it starts a pop up : [This application has failed to start because ASL.dll was not found, Re-instaling the application may fix this problem.] but the itune starts anyway.

Good-o. Let's try moving forwards. Best to print out a copy of these instructions, because at one stage of proceedings you won't be able to use a web browser.
Preliminaries
Download and save a fresh copy of the QuickTimeInstaller.exe file to your hard drive. Don't run the install on line and don't start the install just yet. Get the installer which doesn't mention itunes:
http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/
If open, close all of iTunes, QuickTime and/or the MobileMe control panel. (Since all use AAS they can all interfere with the QuickTime/AAS uninstalls if open, and QuickTime could interfere with its own uninstall.)
*Uninstall phase*
Head into your Uninstall a program control panel. Uninstall QuickTime. Uninstall Apple Application Support.
(From this point on until we get AAS and QuickTime reinstalled, iTunes won't run (because it uses both other programs) and the MobileMe Control panel won't run (because it uses AAS).)
Next we'll remove any leftover program files and folders.
In Computer, open your C drive or whichever drive your program files are installed on.
Open the "Program Fiiles (x86)" folder.
Right-click on the "QuickTime" folder (if it still exists) and select Delete.
*Staying in "Program files (x86)",* open the Common Files folder.
Open the "Apple" folder.
Right-click on the *Apple Application Support* folder (if it still exists) and select "Delete".
Go back out into Computer.
Open the C drive or whichever drive your operating system is installed on.
Open the "Windows" folder.
Open the "SysWOW64" folder.
Right-click on the QuickTime.qts file and the QuickTimeVR.qtx file (if they still exist) and select "Delete".
Empty your recycle bin.
*Reinstall phase*
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts, you'll get another bunch of error messages from iTuneshelper and other background processes. Click through those. Do not open any applications after the PC starts.
Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the QuickTime reinstall by doubleclicking the QuickTimeInstaller.exe you downloaded earlier. (This should reinstall Apple Application Support, too.)
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to the internet and/or your network.
Did the install seem to go through okay? If so, restart the PC. Do you still get the error messages on restart? If not, how about when launching iTunes?

  • I am havign huge problems getting itunes 11.1.4 working on my windows 7 laptop. I have run itunes for some years, and regularly updated it when prompted. I have followed many of the suggestions e.g. uninstalling reinstalling, etc

I have spent hours trying to get itunes working on my laptop.
The only functinoality I crave is to be able to get pictures off my iphone 5 (which has the latest ios installed.), as almost all other functinoality of itunes I find painful beyond belief. It has the worst ergonomics I think of any software I have ever used, which is bizarely at odds with the mobile decvices, which by and large work quite nicely (indeed, why I bought them!)
My laptop runs windows 7. It has all the latest microsoft updates installed (I am religious about this: it always has had.)
I have run itunes on this machine for some years, regularly updating when I am prompted to.
A few days back i was prompted to update to 11.1.4
It failed to install badly. whatever I try at some point during the install process the installer just hangs, or never terminates.
All communication between computer and iphone functionality has been lost.
Nothing eles on my machine is behaving oddly. slowly etc. it is only apple stuff that isn't working.
I googled and found a lot of recurring themes on apple forums:
    So far I have tried:
uninstalling / reinstalling. (hangs during installation).
Restarting the machine between uninstall and reinstall.
Searching and removing any directories/ contents related to apple, after the uninstall, prior to machine reboot.
I have even used iobit uninstaller, as removing apple software as you know is almost impossible (ever tried disabbling the quicktime updater that runs at startup? it's like a virus !!)
I have removed all apple software incl quicktime.
I have tried the microsoft software installer fixit link often posted to.
i have tried unpacking the apple installation file, using the latest version of winrar, to try installing one at a time.
I have found the installation is very very very slow (it looks as though it hangs, but i leave it running in the background, after 15-20 minutes, the status starts advancing for example). so far I have managed to install the first few components up to applesoftware  update, msi, and they seem to need to be run multiple times.
(this last one took about 40 minutes).
I have been very careful to install / uninstall the software components int eh "prescribed" order.
I have tried each step multiple times, rebooting the machine numerous times, cleaning temp folders (with ccleaner) etc.
I ave tried installing when my virus checker AVG is disabled.
(i have virus checked the machine with AVG and malware bytes, I have the latest microsft security essential updates installed.)
I ahve tried stopping apple services (as suggested in one of the apple forum posts).
As you can gather I'm seriously tearing my hair out.
I presume there is some kind of generic bug in this installer: as a friend had exactly the same problem on sunday night, with a different machine, running windows 7, and a couple of her colleagues at work has had the self same problem over the weekend, though none of them seem to have gone to the lengths I have yet !
I tried doing a system restore, but my machine seems to have lunched all previous system restore points, so I can't . Arrrrrgggg !
Is an older version of itunes available so i can install that instead ?
What should I do next ?

  • I am having a problem w/ my itunes working correctly due to accidentally running Itunes through my troubleshooting, running programs made for previous versions of windows!! How do I turn it off?!??

I am having a problem w/ my Itunes working correctly, after accidentally running Itunes through my  troubleshooter  to, Run Programs Made For PreviousVersions of Windows. It keeps popping up that the Compatibility  Version is on, to make sure it's off before opening my Itunes Account. I've looked everywhere, Please, Please, How Do I Make This Right??!??

It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

  • I've got TWO problems when trying to run iTunes

I've been trying to solve them separately, but each one of the answers requires for the other problem to be solved, and I am desperate. I've recently (one week ago) bought an iPad mini and I regret buying it, since I can't sync it to my computer. I don't even know what to do anymore, and its been TWO WEEKS of constantly trying.
The problem started when I tried updating iTunes as usual via the Apple updater. Somehow it gave me an error message, so I did as told by the program and downloaded it manually. After that, I got an R6034 error. Following a thread's advice, I uninstalled every Apple-related program in my computer, even did some cleaning-up, just in case. I reinstalled it, and when I thought I was done, an error popped up claiming that I don't have sufficient privileges to start system services, so Apple Mobile Device failed to start. I tried to fix this, but the R6034 error keeps popping up EVERY time I try to install or even RUN iTunes.
What should I do? All my music is in this computer, and I am even thinking about asking for a refund on my iPad and iPod. iTunes has never given me trouble and I've been using it for at least 5 years, but this problem is big enough to make me reconsider whether or not use it.

    Try here:
    iTunes: Unable to sync photos
Usually deleting the iPod Photo Cache Folder works. Note that if you sync via the folder method, make sure you dlete all the ifolders since :
The iPod Photo Cache stores the photos that are optimized for display on your iPod, iPad, or iPhone. The location of this folder depends on the syncing options you select. In iTunes, if you change the selection in the “Sync Photos From” pop-up menu, a new iPod Photo Cache folder will be created (and the previous folder will remain).

  • Itunes is not able to make changes to a running title, problem is new since feb 10th

I'm located in Germany, sorry for some english mistakes. Hope to get the problem clear ;-) My itunes library is located on a NAS-storage. Made the firmware Update for Airport Extreme a few days ago. . SInce that time it's not possible to make changes in the Information of a running title in itunes. To get the problem clear i like to explain: got about 100thousand titles in itunes, use it for many years, always the same workflow: I listen to a new title and make changes to the title-information such as intensity, genre, cover-editing, composers, comments, etc. No problem, it was always stored to the file. Now it is possible to do this changes, but the next time, you play this title, information is automatically setting back to the original infornation. If I do this to a NOT running title, the information is to be fixed properly. I use my library for professional work, so this is not acceptable, because it's taking far too much time in the progress. Maybe it's a network problem, not an itunes problem. But maybe someone else got the same experience.
    How i loved itunes 10....
Hey folks, if maybe anyone at apple should read this (I'm shure they won't),  itunes 11 is the worst software that was ever released by apple. Sorry to say that! I never thought of switching back to PC, but now I'm looking for a better solution.

  • Problem Running itunes

    Hello there,
I am having problems with my itunes. For some reason when I load up my computer and try and run itunes it just simply doesn't open. On task manager//processes it shows up but not that i can see the window. I have had itunes for around 2 years and have never had this problem & have done nothing that would make this happen.

There might be several reasons why iTunes suddenly stopped working.
Did you install other software before iTunes stopped working?
    A few things to try:
    • Remove all iTunes related preference files (drag them to the desktop, so you can put them back in case it does not help).
The preference files are located at ./Users/YourUsername/Library/Preferences:
    com.apple.iTunes.eq.plist
    com.apple.iTunes.plist
    com.apple.iTunesHelper.plist
com.apple.iTunes.xxxxxxxxxxxx.plist (inside the ByHost folder in the Preferences folder)
    • Re-install QuickTime. iTunes depends on QuickTime and sometimes a re-install will resume iTunes operating again.
    • If you use Digidesign equipment, read this article.
If all of the above fails, you might have to do an Archive and Install.

I have a windows 7 premium laptop, 64 bit driver, have tried to install itunes but recieve an error when trying to open. Error states "Apple Application Support is required to run itunes. uninstall and reinstall again, error 2 (windows error 2). have tried this 4-5 times with no success. help!

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
The section Install missing components has advice on breaking down the iTunes installer into the individual .msi files which might prove useful if AAS won't install normally.

I get the following error message when trying to Install iTunes:
The path C:\DOCUME~1\Frank\LOCALS~1\Temp\IXP206.TMP\iTunes.msi cannot be found. Verify that you have access to this location and try again, or try to find the installation package 'iTunes.msi' in a folder from which you can install the product iTunes.
I search my entire computer for the file but it's not there.
Then, when I try to uninstall the iTunes and start the install from scratch I get another error:

Very frustrating but I'm stumped and I don't know how to proceed. Any help would be very much appreciated.

wooooooooo!!! got it working again!! having spent the last 6 hours..no joke six f*cking hours trying to sort it ive finally got iTunes back!!
ok here is what you need to do:
go to the link below and download the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp Facility.
    http://www.locksleynet.com/2009/06/09/missing-itunesmsi-problem-resolved/
once you have downloaded it, install it and run it from the start menu. once its up and running remove everything to do with iTunes (so iTunes itself, quicktime, bonjour......the lot). Dont worry about removing iTunes completely, all the music is still there when it works again trust me!!
ok once you have removed everything restart your computer, im not sure if this is a must but i did it.
next download quicktime from the apple website (go to the 'downloads' tab near the top. download and install quicktime and restart your computer so the new settings are put in to place ( i think it asks you to restart anyway).
go back to the apple website, 'downloads' tab and download iTunes itself. install that bad boy and you will be up and running with all your library intact!
Hope it works for you mate!

  • Sharing iTunes library/playlist, only one user can run iTunes

    Greetings everyone
Just got a new aluminum iMac, setting it up for the wife and kids. From the descriptions here, I have set up several accounts to share a single iTunes library, by creating aliases in each user's iTunes folder that point to the shared library. It seems to work great: I only have to import music ONCE (instead of once for each user), and if one user creates or changes a new playlist, everyone sees it, which is exactly what I wanted.
However, I have run into a small problem, and it is this. Under this setup, with everyone sharing the same library, *only one person can be running iTunes at a time.* If user A is running iTunes and doesn't quit the app when the computer is switched to User B or C, they get the message
----- +"The iTunes Library is locked, on a locked disk, or you do not have write permission for this file."+
----- Switch back to User A, quit iTunes, and then the others can launch iTunes fine (though again, just ONE of them). Same behavior regardless of whether the user is admin or not.
So, is there any way to enable more than one user to run iTunes at once under this shared scenario? I'm thinking iTunes may not allow multiple users to access the library file at once, so it may be necessary to have users quit iTunes or log out before switching accounts. Let me know if there is a workaround or if anyone has gotten this to work....
    Thanks in advance!
    sno-man

Hi, I just read your post here - I'd like to do exactly what you were able to do, that is, sharing one iTunes library with multiple user accounts on my iMac so that we can both use/add to the same library (I also want to do this with iPhoto, so I'm assuming it's the same process); would you mind quickly telling me how you were able to do this? I've been checking around and can't find a reliable answer. I'd appreciate it - thanks!

While having a perfectly running iTunes and all programs associated, I was notified of the iTunes 10.4 upgrade. After following typical directions, I have had nothing but trouble. First “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 5)” occurred. Following directions found at https://discussions.apple.com/message/15087646#15087646, I now get the following “iTunes.exe - System Error The program can't start because AVFoundationCF.dll is still missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem.”, Along with “iTunesHelper was not installed correctly. Please reinstall iTunes. Error 7 (Windows error 126)” I am running Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit on HP TouchSmart tx2-1275dx. I was one week away from buying an iPad but not if this is what I have to deal with. Please help

I actually managed to resolve this on my own by downloading iTunes from the Apple website and reinstalling iTunes that way. Here's the link: http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/ That should fix your problem. Good luck!
