Running itunes with old windows

Hi I have two computers, 1 is my main computer a Dell dimension 2400 running windows xpand the other is a home built running windows 98. Is there any way to run itunes on my home built computer or do i need to purchase windows xp(which i don't have the money for) to be able to run itunes on it?

I can't help but wonder WHY you would want to run iTunes on an OS that old? You won't be able to get to the Music Store, or update any reasonably new iPod...
In any case, you can try older versions of iTunes from here:

My wife's ipod nano was plugged into the machine overnight.
When she went running with it, there were no songs on it.  She checked the computer and was horrified to see that the playlists had disappeared and most of the songs had disappeared.
    QUESTIONS:
    1. What could it be?
    2. How can I fix it?

when i try to open itunes on windows keeps saying apple application is required to run itunes error 2 windows error 2

You could try downloading and installing 7-Zip (free) and downloading a fresh copy of the iTunes installer, unpack the installer into its components using 7-Zip then try a standalone install of AppleApplicationSupport. It may still fail to install but if so you may get useful error messages as to why not.

cant run itunes on my windows xp,when i install it and try to open itunes,it keeps on saying "itunes cant run because some of its required files are missing. please reinstall itunes... what can i do...

You should first uninstall iTunes completely.
This is not an easy task!
Read this article on how to remove iTunes completely
    http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/23959/completely-remove-itunes-and-other-apple-so ftware-from-a-windows-computer/
Then download the latest version of iTunes for your Windows Version and install it.

  • Can you run iTunes with Windows 98?

I have a dell lap top I would like to use iTunes on but cant find a iTunes program for Windows 98. I want to use my iPod with the lap top.

iTunes for Windows was first introduced for Windows 2000 so there isn't a version that works natively with either 98 or ME. You could have a look at XPlay or Anapod, either of which will work with Windows 98/ME. However both of these are commercial programs so you might consider it worth the extra expense to upgrade to XP if your computer will run it. Staying with 98/ME, you may also require drivers, there is a link in the Anapod page to suitable iPod/USB drivers:

  • Burning CD's compatible with old Windows 98

I have discovered an issue when burning html files to CD. When inserted in a Windows 98 machine, the html files are readable, but formatted incorrectly. Have tried burning from both my iMac and Macbook both running 10.5.5 with same results. If the same files are attached to an email and then read on the Windows computer, the html format is correct, so it must have something to do with the CD burning process. I need the compatibility with old computers as many recipients are using old hardware. Any suggestions?

okay, folks with the 2380s on 64-bit versions of Windows (it can hit both XP and Vista) generally get relief from the 2380s by reinstalling the 64-bit versions of the GEAR drivers that iTunes uses for importing and burning.
here's a link through to the GEAR drivers:
    GEAR drivers
note that there are two different versions of the 64-bit GEAR drivers. be sure to get the one that matches your hardware.

  • TS3694 I continue getting "the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes" with my Windows 7 operating system.  There are no threads devoted to this problem.  Any recommendations?

I keep on getting the following message:
the file itunes library.itl cannot be read because it was created by a newer version of itunes
This is occurring on a Toshiba laptop running Windows 7.  It appears no one has ever encounted this problem using a Windows 7 system judging by the lack of threads devoted to discussing this issue.  Is this the end of the road for my participation in the Apple world, or is there a possible fix for this problem?
I run iTunes on my computer, on my iPad 2, and on my iPhone 4S.
    Sincerely,
    Ralph W.

    Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash
Hopefully it's not been too long since you last upgraded iTunes, in fact if you get an empty/incomplete library immediately after upgrading then with the following steps you shouldn't lose a thing or need to do any further housekeeping. In the Previous iTunes Libraries folder should be a number of dated iTunes Library files. Take the most recent of these and copy it into the iTunes folder. Rename iTunes Library.itl as iTunes Library (Corrupt).itl and then rename the restored file as iTunes Library.itl. Start iTunes. Should all be good, bar any recent additions to or deletions from your library.
See iTunes Folder Watch for a tool to catch up with any changes since the backup file was created.
When you get it all working make a backup!

  • Running iTunes 8 on Windows Server 2003, avoiding 2096 error

Since QuickTime 7.5,nor iTunes neither QuickTime would run on my Server 2003, and the famous 2096 error came up. Unfortunately the new 2+ iPod firmware required iTunes 8 so I had to do something about it. The solution by apple was to turn off compatibility mode, but that was not on in the first place. Reinstalling, searching the net for solutions,.. nothing helped.
So here is how I solved my problem. QuickTime 7.5+ requires at least XP SP2 so i followed this guide > http://www.sheebz.net/post/2008/03/Running-Photoshop-CS3-on-Windows-2003-Server. aspx
and did the same both for the QuickTime and iTunes executables(instead of the setup.exe in the guide), and viola they are running. Note that the Microsoft Application Verifier program must be running when you start iTunes or QuickTime. The cool thing is that you have to do this only once, seems it just needs to pass the first check and after that you're good to go, no need for the Microsoft Application Verifier to be running anymore. Enjoy

    Well now we're getting somewhere.
The RDP connection is fast, as there is nothing but 100Mb/s LAN and a switch between my desktop and the server, so thats not it. Quicktime is fine, so thats not it.
I AM, however, running iTunes 4.8.0.32. I'm not very keen on the idea of moving to 6.0.2 for reasons that I'd rather not go into on this particular board... Is (the upgrade) this something i can do on the one machine unassociated with my apple ID? What parts of the older version are problematic?
    thanks!

  • How do I install iTunes with a Windows 7 account that uses parental controls?

I have setup a small computer for my daughter to use, running Windows 7 Home Premium. I've enabled Parental Controls through the control panel. So far, I've been unable to install iTunes for her. If I try running the installer as admin, when I try to run iTunes as her, I eventually get a message telling me that itunes64.msi was rejected by the digital signature policy. If I run the installer as her, I get a message saying the system administrator doesn't allow the app to run; I have added the installer to the list of allowed applications. Anyone know how to install iTunes in this case?

  • I can't update my iphone anymore because the itunes won't open.  It says I can't run itunes with my version of mac ox

I can't update my iphone because a message pops up that says "You cannot use the application itunes with this mac os x."  I went to software updates and it said they were all complete.

You are running an ancient OSX on your Mac. Since you didn't share what Mac model and model information with us, we cannot tell you if you are able to upgrade or not. You need OSX 10.6.8 at a minimum to run iTunes 11.2

  • ITunes with 64bit Windows 7 - Freezes

I was going to install iTunes on my computer running a 64bit version of Windows 7. Even though it is a 64bit version of iTunes, it seems like it installs as a 32 bit application. It has * 32 beside the process in task manager, and it's installed in the x86 program files folder. Besides that, it seems to install fine. However, when I run iTunes, it freezes for a few minutes and shows the CPU usage frozen at 25, and the interface doesn't respond at all. If I minimize the program, I can't bring it back up until after a few minutes. When it finally started working, it showed the capacity of my iPhone 3G as 4 gigabytes instead of 16gB. When I tried to transfer purchases from the phone to my computer, it showed the transfer progress bar and I got no errors, but the applications didn't show up in the apps window. I think this is some sort of 32bit 64bit compatibility issue. Does anyone know how to solve these issues?

I would like some feedback on this issue as well. I have iTunes 10 installed on a Windows 7 64-bit laptop as well. I hate to even watch any of my iTunes shows due to the lagging and freezing. It is extremely frustrating since I purchased this particular season of shows because they are no longer available to view online. I have stopped all unneeded services and disabled DirectX video features. It didn't help.
I am also confused about the iTunes 64 bit version as it does say it is the 32bit version in task manager not to mention the Quicktime is only in 32 bit as well.
    Someone, please give some insight.

  • Solve for Windows 8.1 Running iTunes with iPhone 5

After SEVERAL hours of trying (and failing) to get iTunes (v. 11.1.5) to recognize my iPhone 5, I think I FINALLY found a solution!
    1) Go to your Control Panel and find Uninstall a Program
    2) Delete EVERYTHING that is associated with Apple Devices (Apple Application Support, Apple Mobile Device Support, and Apple Software Update)
    3) Uninstall iTunes
    4) Download and SAVE (do not "run") iTunes64setup (iTunes 11.1.5.5). This one specifically says it is an update that "resolves an issue with typing Japanese text in the iTunes Store and fixes a  problem that may cause iTunes to quit unexpectedly when a device is connected."
    5) Reboot your computer
    6) Go to your Downloads folder and install iTunes (v. 11.1.5.5). I had my phone plugged in during the install - not sure if that made a difference or not.
When I opened iTunes, everything reappeared like it used to, including my sync and backup/restore options for my phone.
Hope this helps SOMEONE!! Because I had tried pretty much EVERYTHING out there on all the discussion boards.
