Running JDK1.4.1 on SPARC 20 (SunOS 5.7) reports "Needs SunOS 5.6 or later"

Hi, I've been using Java 1.1.6 which came with the Solaris 7 CD for a while and decided that I'd replace it with a newer version. Anyway I've downloaded and installed the recommended patches and installed j2sdk-1_4_1_01-solaris-sparc.sh in /usr/local. I've modified the /usr/java symbolic link to point to the new directory.
Everything seemed to be installed correctly yet when I run any of the programs (e.g. java -version) all I get is the following message:-
"Need Solaris 2.6 (SunOS 5.6) or later."
Which is strange since I'm already running Solaris 7/2.7 (SunOS 5.7)
uname -a reports
SunOS blah.blah. 5.7 Generic_106541-23 sun4m sparc SUNW, SPARCstation-20
Has anyone any suggestions? Can anyone confirm if JDK1.4.1 will work on Solaris 7 running on a SPARC 20?
Thanks

Solved the problem myself.
Gave up on 1.4.1 and installed the older version JDK1.3.1_06 which complained about "libthread.so was older on your system than the one the JVM was tested with". This seemed odd since I installing patch 106980-19 for JDK1.4.1 (JDK1.3.1 requires 106980-16 or later). Anyway I removed patch 106980-19 and then reapplied it and JDK1.3.1 started to work. I then set the symbolic link back to use JDK1.4.1 and found that it was now also working.

There is no version of iTunes that truly supports the 64-bit version of Windows XP and never will be. If you search this forum for "XP 64" or do a web search for something like "iTunes Windows XP 64",  you'll find threads describing the process some people have used to "crowbar" iTunes onto XP 64, with varying levels of success, none of them complete.

  • Fatal:relocation error: While running JDK1.4 on Sun Sparc Generic_106541-08

    Hi,
I installed the new jdk1.4 on my Solaris-7 machine. Initially I installed 32-bit jdk1.4 and then installed 64-bit jdk1.4 as indicated on your (sun's) installation page. I used executable binary version of installation for installing the software.
The installation was successfully completed. But while I run java command then it gave following error
Error: failed /export/home/j2sdk1.4.0/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so, because ld.so.1: ./java: fatal: relocation error: file /export/home/j2sdk1.4.0/jre/lib/sparc/client/libjvm.so: symbol __1cG__CrunSregister_exit_code6FpG_v_v_: referenced symbol not found
Why I am not able to execute any java command with this version? On the same machine I am able to run jdk1.2 and jdk1.3
Please advise on it. It will be of great help If I get some suggestion.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Ashish

In particular, patch 106327-14 seems to solve the problem.

Make sure your machine meets the minimum system requirements:
    http://www.apple.com/osx/specs/
Although it says 2 GB RAM is the minimum, it's generally recommended to have at least 4 GB unless you only use your machine for "light" use (no movie editing/burning, etc).

My macbook pro is currently running on version Mac OS X 10.6.8. I need version 10.7 or above to run a particular study software. How do I obtain this upgrade?

First check that your Mac meets the System requirements for Lion...
    Lion Tech Specs  >  http://support.apple.com/kb/SP629
    See here to Buy it...
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
Be sure to make a Backup of your Current System Before Upgrading...
Also... Check here for compatibility of 3rd party Software you may be using... Also note that Rosetta is no longer supported in Lion.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
You should also consider more RAM... Lion is a hungry beast...
You can use these Links to check which RAM is suitable for your Mac...

If in the UK... Go to http://www.crucial.com
It is Important to get the Correct and Matching RAM
Those sites also have videos on how to Install RAM should you need it...

Its not telling you to update your iPad, its telling you you need to download a recent version itunes on your computer.

I don't know what i need. I'am a mac user but i need to run quick books premier. This is the only software i need in windows . Could i have some advise in  what is better for me, Bootcamp or Parallels

The Intuit rep said they don't "support" QuickbooksPremier on a "virtual machine." Do you know what I risk by using it, anyway? thanks for the advice about Boot Camp vs Parallels, BTW!
I use QuickBooks Pro for Mac, so I haven't had need to try any of the Windows versions in a VM. But I can't think why it wouldn't work. From within the VM, QuickBooks Premier would believe it is operating on PC hardware within Windows.
I would guess they mean that the multiple user support wouldn't work from within the VM. But I would think that would also work. Windows can see the Internet from within the VM, which means it can see your network. So if Windows can see the network, then QB Premier should be able to, too.
I know you can get Parallels as a demo, and maybe you could get QB Premier as trial software. So if you already have a retail copy of Windows to load into a VM, it would only cost you time to test what's possible.

  • I am having problems to run an app, there is an error display that says I need to set bonjour and that this app serial number has been used by another red user,  could anybody guide me?

I am having problems to run an app, there is an error display that says I need to set  bonjour services

Logic is the APPlication (program, app) that you are having the problem with.
Logic Pro can take advantage of other computers on your local (home or work) network to help it do "heavy lifting" data chores by using Bonjour and a feature called Nodes.   It seems that Logic is attempting to find and connect to another machine on your network.
Do you have Logic installed on another computer there?  That may be the source of the confilict.
You might want to post this question in the Logic Pro Community.
Be sure to indicate the version of Logic Pro that you are using.  I'm sure the folks there can help you out.

  • I haven't done an update since 24.0 because my computer is running out of memory. How much MORE memory will I need to get up to version 28.0?

I haven't done an update since 24.0 because my computer is running out of memory. How much MORE memory will I need to get up to version 28.0?
    My computer is really old.
It is running out of memory.
I haven't done a firefox update since 24.0 because I think it will explode my computer.
    I see that v28.0 takes 200MB.
How much more is this than what is already loaded for my v24.0?
Will it just add the extra pieces, or will it require a free block of 200MB (which my computer does not have)?
I don't want to crash and lockup my computer because I try to install something that is too big for the remaining memory.
    Thanks.

You should updated to Firefox 28, Firefox updates don't take any new space they just replace the existing files.
There are some things you can do to clean up your hard drive to free up space however, http://arstechnica.com/civis/viewtopic.php?p=21178060 and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956324, also uninstall programs you don't use anymore and delete files you don't need anymore.
You should also start saving up for a new machine, Windows XP is being dropped from support by Microsoft in a few days, which means it will no longer be safe to use on the internet.

My imac is running software version OS X 10.6.8.  Do I need to ugrade to Snow Leopard before I a can upgrade to Lion?

Mac OS X 10.6.8 is Snow Leopard. If you can't or don't want to upgrade your Mac to Mountain Lion and it has a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU, phone the Apple Store and order a download code for Lion.
