Running Logic 8.0.2 under Mac OS X Lion

1. Run Automator.
2. Drag "Run Shell Script" action and drop in Automator.
3. Assuming you installed Logic in the default location, paste the following to the Run Shell Script dialog:
/Applications/Logic\ Pro.app/Contents/MacOS/Logic\ Pro ; exit;
4. Save As Logic Pro 8 (I saved to my home directory).
Double-click to run.
This is not going to work for everyone. I am using plug-ins for Roland Soniccell which is compatible with Lion, so this works for me. It does not work for MainStage.

It doesn't matter who posted first or last!
We now have a workable solution for running Logic 8.
By the by, there's an even easier way of adding the Logic Pro icon to the script which dates back to System 7 or before.
Find the Logic Pro app, 'get info' on it, select and command I, at the top of the panel there's a Logic Pro Icon, select it, and go to 'edit' on the menu bar at the top of the screen and select 'copy' (command C should work also).
Close that info panel, find the script, 'get info' on that, select the script icon at the top of the panel and paste in the Logic Pro icon.

If I say "OPEN WITH Photoshop CC 2014", or if I drag the file directly to CC 2014 in the Dock it will open in CC. Since I like to double-click or hit return in the bridge, I am constantly having to wait until the file opens in CS6, quit CS6 an then open it another way to get it into Photoshop CC 2014. I tried to disable CS6 by hiding it, but then double-clicking Bridge did nothing. Any ideas why this is happening?

Check and adjust the File Type Associations in the bridge cc preferences.

Running Logic Pro 9 32bit on Mac Mini with 4GB of RAM and still crashing

Why is Logc crashing and giving me "Memory Low" errors all the time? I am running 4GB of Mem with Logic Pro 32bit. I currently have a 27 track project and it is crashing all the time. Yet the sample "Killers" project is 80+ tracks and a video and Logic has no problem, I don't get it? What am I doing that is sucking up so much memory and how do I fix it?

I get it. The number of tracks is not a very constant unit of measurement, it depends what kind of tracks they are, what plugins are loaded etcetera. You can have memory problems with 10+ sampler tracks, and room to spare with 100+ external MIDI tracks, to give a simple example.
What am I doing that is sucking up so much memory and how do I fix it?
How on earth would anybody but you know what you are doing?

Automator: Impossible to rename file using automator under Mac OS X Lion

Before upgrade my iMac to MAC OS X Lion 10.7.2, I had service created with automator under snow leopard in order to rename my pictures file names by blocks instead of one by one. Since I'm using Lion, this one doesn't work anymore. I have completely recreate the service under Lion and the results is the same.
You can find below my workflow that is easy. The problem is the message error in the history of automator application. The message is "impossible to rename file "file name" because this one should create conflict with existing file". I already test a lot of times with different name where I'm sure that this one doesn't exist on my Mac but all the time without success (verify also with search function under mac)
If somebody can help me, it would be very interesting because I already tried to find answer on internet without success too.

the whole automator and in particular the record action was substantially rewritten in snow leopard. and the record action is slow, unreliable and you can't trouble-shoot it. it's a wonder it works at all. the only advice i can give is to use it as little as possible. if at all possible avoid it altogether. if you do need to use it try using keyboard strokes instead of the mouse movement. for example. use command+c and command+v for copying and pasting and use tabbing to choose the correct box on the page.

Can I run logic pro 8 on a mac in conjunction with a PC?

Im usig logic pro 8 on Mac but I want to use sounds from a synth that only runs on a PC.
Any suggestions what I can use to sync the programs together on both Pc and Mac?
I thought I had heard about a Steinberg program that could do that..

Steinberg makes a program called VST-Stack that allows up to 16 VST instruments loaded into a rack, each addressed by a separate MIDI channel. It ships with FX racks, compressors/reverbs...etc. Similar to Cubase without the sequencer part.
If you have a PC with a MIDI interface VST-Stack would work.
Caveat: It doesn't have MIDI clock sync so don't expect to get delay sync or other synth time based effects/sample&hold to sync to your tempo. As far as a basic synth rack, it works great. Don't know if it runs on Vista, it does run on XP.
There may be similar free programs but i don't know of any offhand.

i am looking into buying a macbook but not sure if i want a pro or an air, air would be ideal for travel and work purposes but assuming that it can run LPX while im at home in my studio. does anyone else with an Air know if it can be run with the memory space that it comes with or will i have to upgrade to the bigger storage, i am also going to buy the 1 or 2tb external to save most if not all of my work. thoughts?

it depends on what you are planning to do. in general, the pro offers a better display (better if you need much space on logic) and more power. for example, if you want to record 4 or more tracks simultaneously, i recommend the pro. also, the pro has two thunderbolt adapters, which is very helpful if you have a thunderbult interface (e.g. focusrite) and an external display.

I have a software that will only run on Snow Leopard or earlier Leopard. (Biblical Hebrew by Hebrew World/Yodea). Is there anyway to force the CD program to open on Lion? Also, will this problem be fixed with Mountain Lion? Thank you..

Try installing Snow Leopard (with Rosetta) into Parallels 7 in Lion. Here are some PowerPC applications running concurrently with Lion:

NTFS Boot Camp volume seen as FAT32 with MAC OS X Lion

Hi,
I have a strange behavior.
I receive my new iMac (27', 16GB Ram, 3.4Ghz i7, 2GB Graphic card).
Time machine restore was perfect. Then I ran Bootcamp Partition.
Then I have launched win 7 DVD install, Quick Format in NTFS and restore from win7 backup.
Well Win 7 run well (with bootcamp 4.0). I can restart under Mac OS X Lion.
And there the BootCamp Volume appears empty as a FAT32 Volume.
I have tried to unmount it, then try a mount_ntfs (i/o error message in terminal).
So I anoying with that because I can't brows my NTFS Vootcamp and can't launch my BootCamp Win 7 through Vmware fusion (4) !
Does any one met this behavior before ?

If you used a Windows supported backup method using wim file I would run sysprep on that image file. If you made a vhd backup you can boot it on another Windows box in the Windows VM or use VMWare Fussion is will see a vhd. Like The hatter said dissimilar hardware is usually asking for trouble. I had a similar issue once and did this:
1. Uninstall vmware, and reboot
2. Install vmware and all the updates for vmware making sure it was completely up to date
3. Used OS X disk utility to repair the disk permissions.
4. Added the bootcamp part as a bootable vm
Also I have Paragon and it works great since Lion is unable to write to NTFS, Lion is able to read NTFS.

Btw, the format of the partition is NTFS (if this is at all relavent).

No just leave it. It's unaffected by the lion update. if you edited your Bootcamp partition afterwards look at http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4649
Do make sure that your Mac disk is error free (run disk utility) and that you have > 15gb free.

I don't know how to find the "mobilesync" folder under Mac OS X Lion.
In Snow Leopard it was ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup..
But in Lion the MobileSync folder has dissapeared..
Does anyone know where I can find them?

Apple hid the User Library.
Click GO -> GO To Folder
Enter "~/Library" (without quotes) in the textbox. Click GO. This will take you to your User Library
Open the Application Support folder
Scroll down to the MobileSync folder
You should now see your Backup folder that you can open to view your backups.

Under Mac OS 10.5.8, itunes 10.6.3 not running

Under Mac OS 10.5.8, iTunes 10.6.3 not running, demanding Quicktime 7.5.5 or higher. Quicktime 7.6.4 installed according to 'About this Mac,' but QT Player is 7.2.1. How do I fix this so I can use iTunes?

Open Application > Utilities > System Profiler and check the Quicktime version in Frameworks vs. the version in Applications. One person had re-installed their operating system. It had kept the newer Player application but had reverted to an earlier version of the underlying support framework files which many applications utilize. Re-installing Quicktime 7.7 took care of the problem. Do this manually, not with Software Update.

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As". So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail. I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time. Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
Here's what I know:
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update. None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them. This is maddening! What can be done? Apple?? Anyone???

I have a carillon 25 keyboard (bad choice, I know) and I can't get it to communicate with my mac at all! I'm running logic pro 9 and reason 5. I get signal in from my M Audio trigger finger so I know it isnt an entirely mac based problem. Thanks!!!

Well, how have to determined no signal is being recieved to your mac?
Have you got something that shows the actual signal? Or have you just been trying to control a VST? What software are you using by the way?
I personnally went with a AKAI MPK25, because it's made already mapped for logic & ableton etc, so it just makes things incredibly easy.
I would suggest you return it if you can as a dead unit & perhaps look at something else a bit easier?
Otherwise, if you just want to get this working we can have a look a bit deeper.
And driver? OS X driver?
