Running LR 5.6 on OSX 10.9.4. Can't import from Canon 7D. Any ideas?

For future reference, if there is an error message, you should probably quote it in your original message on the subject.
"Could not be read" indicates that you do not have WRITE permission to the destination directory when you try to import, so change your permissions.
"not recognized" might indicate the camera card itself is corrupted or the card reader is failing ... or the problem might go away if you change your permissions.

I recently upgraded the Safari program as well as the recent OSX update.
I also upgraded Adobe reader from 8.0 to Adobe Reader X and removed Reader 8 by dragging it to the trash.
Now the Safari print dialog displays "No Printer Selected" and will not allow a printer to be selected. I do get a PDE error that says that the AdobePDFPDE800 bundle isn't working. But I've no clue how to access and delete it.
The printer is a Ricoh Aficio CL4000DN. PPD's have been reinstalled today.
The is NO PROBLEM printing from any other application. All Apple aplications other than Safari print as well as applications from other companies.

Unless you really need Reader, I suggest you uninstall it according to Adobe's instructions. It's dreadful. If you do need it, ask for help in the Adobe user forums.

Go into preferences and under playback turn off background render. That helped speed things for me when working with large files.

OSX 10.6.8 - can't instal from app store

I used to have GarageBand on my mac, but I deleted it as I never used it.
I want to get in from the app store but it's saying I need OSX 10.9. Can you get a version that will work on OSX 10.6.8?
What I really want is to create a DJ mix (already created) with I.D's for each track (like you see in some podcasts).
I see that you can do it in GarageBand; is there any other program that will do it? I have Logic Pro 8. I thought maybe markers would be read by iTunes but it doesn't, unless I'm doing something wrong.
Please advise.

Did GarageBand come preinstalled on your Mac with Snowleopard or an earlier version? Then it was probably included on the system install disks that came with the mac. Check the disks for installers for the bundled iLife applications. Then try to reinstall from your disk and upgrade from the Apple support page to GarageBand 6.0.5 .

Can't install OSX on Seagate Barracuda 1TB in Mac Pro1,1. Any ideas?

I've got a Mac Pro 1,1 and just installed a new Seagate ST1000DM003 3.5 inch 1TB Barracuda Hard Drive.
I was hoping to install OSX on it but seemingly the OS won't recognise it.
The drive is formatted (Mac OSX Journalled) is GUID, and boots perfectly normally as a storage space.
But for some reason I can't fathom neither my OSX 10.4 disk nor Snow Leopard disk will recognise it at the moment of installation.
Anyone got any ideas? does this sound like a lemon or is it some limitation of the Mac Pro 1,1?

You mean it mounts normally when used as a data storage volume (not boots perfectly).
So clone the system to it.
Can you check it with Seatools? on a PC or Windows.
Assume it is in bay 1 thru 4.
What and when and how did you manage to format it to GUID w/ HFS+?

Good to know. Narrows down the troubleshooting.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type this exactly as you see it here: /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go
Move the Adobe PDF browser (or just PDF browser) plugin to the Trash.
Now open System Preferences > Print & Scan > Print
If you don't see your printer on the left click + (plus). You may need to click the lock icon bottom left corner of the Print pane to make changes.
Now click: Open Print Queue
Delete any times in the queue.
Quit then relaunch Safari. Try printing...

If you do get an iLife 11 disk and install iPhoto it will be v9.0. You can run v9.4.3 so you'll need to use the following updaters to get to it:
update to iPhoto 9.2.1
update to iPhoto 9.3
update to iPhoto 9.3.2
update to iPhoto 9.4
and finally to iPhoto 9.4.3

Recent crashes: Mac OSX 10.5.8; can't upgrade from FF 3.6.13 to latest. Any suggestions ?

I have tried several times to upgrade from FF 3.6.13 to the latest version, and am still being prompted to do so. Apparently, my iMac OSX version 10.5.8 doesn't have enough capacity for the upgrade. Lately, I have had a few crashes when trying to access my E-mail. Could the crashes be related to the failure to upgrade ? If I am unable to upgrade, I may have to switch to Safari which, I expect, would be more Mac friendly.

Mac OSX 10.6.8 can't import songs from cd

When I try to import a cd, only certain songs show up in my iTunes library. During the import process, it appears as if all songs are importing correctly.

Does it happen with all your CDs?
If it is only one particlar CD, error correction may be interfering. Try to disable error correction in the iTunes Preferences and try again to rip the CD.
To turn on error correction when importing songs from CDs:
Choose iTunes > Preferences.
In the General pane, click Import Settings.
Disable “Use error correction when reading Audio CDs.”
Insert the CD and import the songs again.

Try another browser such a Safari. If you get the same issue then it's probably the site, if it works OK on another browser then it's probably Chrome and you should re-post on a Chrome forum discussion board.

OSX 10.6.5 can't control my Canon iP8500

Since moving from Tiger to Snow Leopard on my new computer, my Canon iP8500 printer only half works. I can print, but I no longer have a Printer Setup Utility, no Printer Status reporting and cannot read the ink tanks. The files in Library>Printers>Canon>Utilities appear to be the same as on the old computer. There are two ij printer utility applications of 21.7 and 24.4 MB and a cij autosetuptool app but I don't know what these are for. The Canon website indicates there are no drivers to download for this printer. Can anyone suggest how to get the iP8500 to work properly?

Yes. The v10.30.3.0 driver was part of the OS X 10.6.4 update.
Following the links in your message it is clear that there is a newer V.10.36.2.0 as you say but what difference it makes is not stated.
The updates were primarily for adding more models to the supported list. There has also been some minor corrections, which have been documented on the Canon web site for the respective model.
However I still don't know what is the difference between V.10.36.2.0 and Canon's V. 4.8.3 which they recommended and I downloaded this morning. This is because I can't find a way of selecting between them to try 4.8.3. While Your suggestion that all the utility functions can be accessed through the Print/fax pane, I find it more convenient to keep the Printer Setup Utility in Dock and wouldn't want to give that facility up. Is it worthwhile upgrading to V.10.36.2.0 ? How can I select Canon V. 4.8.3. to test it?
The v4.8.3 driver is not meant for Snow Leopard. If it did manage to install then it would actually error when you try to print. And upgrading to v10.36 may not give any noticeable improvement over the current v10.30 driver.
As for the Dock, you could do the same thing with the print queue. Open Print & Fax, select the iP8500 and press the 'Open Print Queue' button. This will make the printer proxy for the iP8500 appear in the Dock and you will see from this pane that you have access to the ink supplies and the printer utility. And you can then Control-click on this icon and select Options > Keep In Dock.
