Running multiple JVM's using JNI

I am having problems starting multiple JVM's in our C++ application which is multi-threaded.
Iam able to start one JVM but when I attempt to start the second JVM in a new thread it fails with
the error of -5. This error states that a JVM is already running.
Help!

You can run more than one process that needs JVM using the AttachThread, DetachThread and GetCreatedJavaVMs calls.
First determine to see if you have a JVM -- using GetCreatedJavaVMs. Check if you can get the environment pointer (GetEnv call). Then try AttachThread. Once you are done, do a DetachThread.
This might give you a possible workaround/solution.

  • Running Multiple JVM's on same Server has OutOfMemory - PermGen Errors

I have a scenario where I have 2 application servers. One is running one JVM and the other is running multiple JVMs.
    Both are configured with:
    -XX:+UseConcMarkSweepGC
    -XX:+UseParNewGC
    -XX:MaxPermSize=256m
    -XX:+CMSPermGenSweepingEnabled
    -XX:+CMSClassUnloadingEnabled
The server that is running with only 1 JVM runs stable, however the server that is running multiple JVMs has frequent crashes due to OutOfMemory - PermGen errors. The only other difference is the Heap size. 512mb for each JVM on the app server with multiple instances and 1GB for the server with 1 instance. Is there a relationship/settings that need to be tuned when running multiple JVM's on the same server to avoid this?
    Thx

The only other difference is the Heap size. 512mb for each JVM on the app server with multiple instances and 1GB for the server with 1 instance. This isn't a trivial difference. Basically you're saying "When I give the server 1 GB then it's okay but when I give it 512 MB it's not okay." If I saw those symptoms I would take them at face value to start with.
So, turn off one of those servers on the machine that has two. Don't change anything else. Testable prediction: That won't fix your problem.

  • LogicalDeletePollingStrategy adapter running multiple updates and using CPU

We have multiple SOA processes that poll tables in a database with a Logical delete polling strategy. After polling the table the db adapter does an update to flag the record as read.
We have a production database and test database for the source system, and production and test SOA 11.1.1.4 systems. After cloning our production database to our test database, I will see the update statement for the adapter running multiple times in the test database. However, their are no records in the table that meet the criteria for the polling.
The polling frequency is every 10 minutes, and if the update statement did anything it would take less than 1 second. However I will see 5-10 copies of the update statement running and using resources.
Has anyone seen a db apapter do this?

maybe unit of order and unit of work can help you on that, though i haven't any experience on both topics :

  • Running multiple SSIS packages using SQL Server Agent question.

I have a multitude of SSIS packages I want to run using SQL Server Agent.  What would the best practice be for running these jobs using SQL Server Agent?  One job per package or running all pakages from one job?  If you have an answer can
you explain the technical reasoning behind your answer?  Thanks in advance.
    Stan Benner

Hi, maybe a bit more analysis will give a better answer
Do all the packages have to run in sequence? (if yes, single job better)
Can the list of packages to be executed be grouped by dependency (ex package 1,2 and 5 must run in sequence and can be executed by one job, while package 3,4 are not dependent on package 1,2 and 5 can be run by a separate job).
Can any jobs be run in parallel?
How often will the package execution sequence change?
How will you deploy your packages and job? (the more jobs to create the more install script needed and upgrade scenarios become messy).
    My personal preference:
I create ONE ssis package which is executed by ONE sql agent job. lets call this 'PackageExecutionWrapper.dtsx'
PackageExectionWrapper then contains multiple 'Execute Package' tasks for the packages you want to execute.
In the package you can apply any package execution rules - which packages have to run after the other, which packages can run concurrently, which packages should only run if previous succeeded.
If you need to change the sequence, simple, just update the PackageExecutionWrapper package.

  • Run multiple sql scripts using osql

We have 2 databases which should be installed on each and every sql server.
    STEPS DONE
    1. scripted out these two DB'S as    ex:    db1.sql     db2.sql
2.Scripted lookup tables in these DB's into two scripts        ex:    lookup1.sql   lookup2.sql
3.scripted permissions of service accounts in two databases as     ex: perm1.sql    perm2.sql
In order to run all these scripts in sequence I am planning to use an batch file which executes all these scripts in sequence and also we know the database creation script db.sql looks for the same path for DATA and LOG file locations as it is in the script. Is
that possible to use parameters to allow dba to set location paths while running batch file?
    The sequence should be as
    db1.sql
    lookup1.sql
    perm1.sql
    db2.sql
    lookup2.sq
    perm2.sql

Setup a ControlParms table. Let the DBA configure the values in the table.
Change the .sql scripts to read the ControlParms table for path or other configuration value.

    1.1.8

  • Multiple JVM instances

    Dear all,
I am trying to create multiple JVM instances using createJavaVM(...) but I can't do it. When I try to create the second instance, the function returns an error.
Does anybody know about getting multiple JVM instances running??
    Thanks in advance,

    Hallo,
createJavaVM(...) trys to create a JVM in your current
process, so I am not surprised that you get an error
the second time round, because there is already a JVM
in the process. If you want multiple JVMs, each needs
to be in its own process.
Why do you want to create more than one JVM in your
process? The JVM is multithreadable, and you can start
more than one thread in the JVM. Would that do what
you want?I need multiple instances because my application needs nearly 2Gb of memory and the maximum heap I get is 1700 Mb. I think with multiple instances, I'll get it.
Do you know about getting a bigger heap??

  • Multiple weblogic instances using IIS to proxy the requests

I have a need to run multiple weblogic instances using IIS as the web
    server.
Does anyone know if this is possible. I am aware and have been able to run
multiple weblogic servers as an nt service,
but in those cases weblogic was being called and IIS was being bypassed.
Now the user base wishes to use IIS to proxy the requests.
I have been able to set IIS to forward using the .jhtml and .jsp file
extensions to the iisproxy.dll, but have not been able to forward these
requests to multiple weblogic instances. When the request is made it is
only looking in the first instance of weblogic for the request.
Is it possible to use weblogic and IIS with two or more weblogic instances,
without weblogic acting as a webserver.
I dont believe this is possible but I need to find out if this really is the
    case.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
    Ed

You need run each IIS web server instance in its own memory space. This can
be set through the Management Console for IIS.

We tried to do this & Weblogic doesn't support this config. We opened upa

that IIS & NT proxies .JSP pages to the weblogic servers. It's very
unstable this way & I wouldn't recommend this config.
We switched to Apache with virtual hosts to do this & it works fine. It's
probably not the answer you want to hear, but it works very well.

We tried to do the same thing.
We copied iisproxy.dll and iisproxy.ini to server1 and let IIS use this.dll
    instance for proxying .jsp etc.
We copied the iisproxy.dll and iisproxy.ini to server 2, renamed
iisproxy.dll to iisproxy2.dll (to make sure another instance was used)
    and
let the second iis site use iisproxy2.dll, but that didn't worked. (It
doesn't read the iisproxy.ini file located in the same directory as the.dll
file, altough in the manual it says it checks this first.) Now, I thinkit's
possosible to use several iisproxy.dll's as long as you rename it so
    each
get it's own instance, the only problem is that each .dll doesn't readthe
correct iisproxy.ini file. (BEA, is this for SP7?)

  • Multiple JVM instances and host computer performance

    Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has any facts or sources about how running multiple JVM instances impacts the performance of the hosting computer ?
For example, say you have a long running server process that creates a JVM, how is the performance of the computer impacted if there are five of those processes running, versus ten versus ...
This is a very "it depends" question, but I would like to get an idea of the baseline performance impact that comes with running a JVM, and if there is anyone here that has experience running multiple JVMs I'd appreciate any feedback, whether it's "don't do it, ever" or "no problem!"
    Thanks

My only experience with multiple VMs is when I have several Java GUI apps (eclipse, jedit, dbvisualizer) plus tomcat and maybe an ant running on XP.
I don't think that the existence of multiple VMs is in and of itself a problems, but JVMs do tend to be fairly memory hungry, so if you don't have a lot of RAM, you may find yourself crawling along as swapping heats up.
I think that later versions of the Windows VM have started to take advantage of sharing certain core libraries, or pieces of them, so that you don't have as big an incremental memory footprint for additional VMs. I don't know which versions or how much this actually reduces the foot print of second and subsequent VMs though.

  • JVM Crash When Using JNI and COM

I'm trying to call a DLL compiled from VB6 source code that I do not have access to. The VB6 code simply retrieves data from a DB2 database using ADO and my client code grabs that data and marshals it to my Java code. I'm attempting to achieve this using JNI and COM (without a third-party bridge). It works 75% of the time, but the other 25% of the time, the JVM crashes with the usual Hotspot crash log containing an access violation exception. However, I don't know what in my C++ code (VC++ 8) could be causing this except for passing a "wild" pointer to the code lying underneath the COM object interface. If that is the case, I don't know how I am doing that.
The Java code that is calling my native method is running on Tomcat 5.5.25 and just to be safe, I am not allowing multiple threads to concurrently call the method in my JNI DLL (though I realize that this will kill performance). Once I can get past this problem, I'll do the COM interfacing on a worker thread in my native code so I don't screw up CoInitialize and CoUninitialize calls in the case the same thread is concurrently executing multiple calls to my native code.
I've noticed that in most cases, the JVM crashes during my call to the pClsAccount->OpenConnection method. However, my DLL isn't what is listed on the top of the call stack, which is why I suspect the passing of a wild pointer, though I'm just taking a guess at that. Does anyone have an idea as to what's going on ?

  • Unable to create JVM using JNI

    Hai,
I am new to java programming. I am trying to invoke native application using JVM. I have a written a pilot code in C using JNI. I am getting the following error when I try to run the binary. I think that the problem is from the fact that 1.2.2 is installed in
/usr/bin directory (and is the default on the server). But I have set both
    LD_LIBRARY_PATH, PATH and path
so that it points out 1.4.2. Here is the error
    unable to create JVM
There was an error trying to initialize the HPI library.
Please check your installation, HotSpot does not work correctly
when installed in the JDK 1.2 Solaris Production Release, or
    with any JDK 1.1.x release.
while building the binary I am using JDK1.4.1 header and lib files
    These are my compilation arguments
    g++ -g -I/opt/BES/jdk/jdk1.4.1/include/ -I/opt/BES/jdk/jdk1.4.1/include/solaris/ -L/opt/BES/jdk/jdk1.4.1/jre/lib/sparc/ -ljvm -ljava jniTest.C
    Help Needed
    Thanks
    Sunil

I haven't seen this before. Could it be a disk space issue?
Are you using JDevStudio or JDevStudioBase? And do you have your JAVA_HOME set? If you are using JDevStudio, try running JDev in a command window where JAVA_HOME is not set - I'm pretty sure JDev does NOT get confused about this but I haven't done extensive testing.
Also you should try deleting and unzipping JDev again.
Finally, search the JDev TP forum - there are some discussions there about this error and you may find an answer to your specific configuration - it doesn't seem to be a TP4 specific issue.
