Running Office 98 or Office 2001 for the Mac with Leopard

Is it possible to run Office 98 or Office 2001 with Leopard?

Can run OS 9.2.2 along with Leopard and access the Office programs that way, and if so do you have to restart the computer to access OS 9.2.2 or can you just launch OS 9.2.2?

  • Framemaker for the Mac. WHY NOT?

I have a Mac and use the Creative Suite software on it. Yet, when I went to go find FrameMaker, I have found it is ONLY available for the PC. Why?
So I go look for a solution and find that FrameMaker 7 is the last version available for the Mac. Ok, I still have my G4 as well. So I figured I will look to get a copy of v7 then. Nope, can't find it on the Adobe site. Not only that, but it's a pain in the "blank" to find a viable copy to puchase other than on amazon for $4K.
If Adobe is going to stop making a version of their software then I can understand the cut. But to stop making it for one system and not the other? At the very least, you could continue to keep support for, and make available (at a reduced price hopefully), your older version for the Mac (or PC if you cancel a PC version of something), so that users can still use the software if they have the system to use it.
A huge amout of Mac people use your software. Apple computers are still looked at to be the BEST graphics hardware around to run. So when someone thinks "graphics" often, the Apple computer is what comes to mind. When they think Games, the PC. One is for work, the other for play, when it comes to Graphics. So, what's with cutting Apple off for FrameMaker.
So I have a suggestion/request. IF your going to keep a software package going for one system, and not the other. Then at the very least, keep the Last Version of the software for the other alive and supported.
You have FrameMaker for the PC. V12.
You stopped for the Mac with V7.
Go back and resupport, and sell V7 to the Mac folks (at a reduced price since it is older). Then, if possible, get V13 or 14, or what ever, updated to work on the Mac and PC. Then, offer the Mac folks the upgrage pricing to go from 7 to 13 (or 14, or what ever).
For those anti-mac people - For the record, I am fully experienced using both the PC and Mac. I own a mac and prefer the Mac for all my Graphics Needs. So please don't suggest I get rid of my Mac and get a PC. Won't happen.

    > The old Mac code is too old to port to current machines.
It's not just a codebase problem. It's a platform market problem.
Frame's ostensible competitor has a codebase that's some 15 years younger, and it's also Windows-only (and somewhat arrogantly oblivious about it - they don't even tell you what platform you must have to run their stuff).
The question becomes one of: what are the demographics of future content-creator platforms? Some of the platforms that FM used to run on (various Unix RISCs) are now entirely gone. The abortive port to Linux failed to become a product (might have been intended to fail). Desktop Mac may or may not be a key part of future Apple plans.
Windows, alas, is being massively bungled by Microsoft, who arguably accelerated the demise of the desktop PC with Windows 8. A c|net news article today is headlined "New Microsoft VP consigns the PC to irrelevance". Well, you know who to thank for that, Mr. Elop. Sure, content consumer computing is increasingly ISA- and OS-agnostic. Consumer code needs to run on ARM and x86, on at least 3 different OS'es.
Adobe is in the content creator business for revenue products. Creator development/authoring platforms are no longer the same as consumer platforms. Adobe needs to keep an eye on where this is all headed, and needs a Plan B in case MS continues to screw up desktop Windows. If CS and TS were to be ported to a second platform, it's not clear that Mac is the optimal target. It might be to Linux again (whether Android or some other distro is an open question), perhaps on ARM-64. Does Linux have CMYK model yet? or color management?

  • Office for the Mac - file open slowness, freeze, or crash

When I select the File - Open window, any of the Office programs take a few minutes to display all of my files in the Documents folder. When they are finally displayed, any attempt to scroll through the list or go to a specific file results in the Mac's spinning wheel being displayed. Quite often, nothing happens after the wheel stops spinning. Sometimes, it just continues to spin. Consequently, it is almost impossible to use the File - Open window in Office to select a file to open. The only way I can do so is to use Finder to display my files in the Documents folder and then selecting them in that program's File - Open window.
When the wheel is spinning, Force Quit says that the specific Office program being used is "not responding." Usually, I use Force Quit to close down the Office program if it has frozen, crashed, or been slow using the File Open window.
I spent an hour yesterday with Microsoft Support on the problem. The conclusion of the tech was that I had too many files in my Documents folder. I pointed out that other programs such as FileMaker Pro didn't have this problem. The tech's response was that Office has to scan the entire Documents folder every time the File Open window is opened, but that FileMaker Pro stores a list of the last files in the Documents folder and doesn't rebuild the list every time.
I am skeptical of this "answer." The problem didn't exist until a few months ago.
My computer is a MacBook Pro 2.3gHz with 16 GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive which has about 500GB free. This is a fairly fast machine with a Geekspeed of 10688. I was running the latest Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.1. The problem first surfaced with Office for the Mac 2008 about 3-4 months ago running Mac OS 10.10.1. I installed Office 365 yesterday, and and Mac OS Yosemite 10.10.2 today, and nothing changed.
The only solution that I know of is to take a lot of time to segregate my files in the Documents folder into more subfolders (I already have quite a few). That I am loath to do, because the solution doesn't work very well. It takes about a minute to select a subfolder in the File Open window, and then about another 30 seconds before Office allows me to scroll through a relatively small number of files (e.g., 100 files) in the subfolder.
When this question was posted to the Microsoft Community, I was directed to an article talking about problems with Office and Mac OS. None of the solutions worked, probably because the article considered only Office X and Office 2004 for the Mac and OS 10.2 and 10.3.
    Help, please!

    1) Verify that Office is fully updated. v14.4.7
    2) I suggest you run Font Book and vailidate your Fonts. Microsoft installs duplicate fonts and after you clean up your fonts, this has often fixed odd issues with Office.
Office 2011 Duplicate Fonts to Delete
    3) Delete the com.apple.LaunchServices file in your User's Library/Preferences folder. Log out under the Apple in the Menu bar and test. More info
    If this fails to fix....
Testing in a new User will quickly tell you if the problem is system wide or if it's your User's folder that contains the problem.
Put a few test files in the Shared folder. Data in the Shared folder can be accessed by another User. When you "Switch Users", you can access the files in the shared folder. After you log into the new test User, drag from Shared (it actually copies). Put the test files in Documents.
Open Word. It won’t be in the Dock in the new User. Go to Applications to open.
Do you still see the issue?
If yes, you can eliminate the number of files in your Documents folder.
If no, then you might want to do a clean up in Documents.
*Remember to drag files back from Shared when you log into your main User.

  • Microsoft Office for the mac no longer is supported because it is a PPC App? Recourse?

What on earth is this power delegated to themselves to take away without fair notice that even applications bought through the apple store such as Microsoft Office for the mac, can no longer be supported because it is a PowerPC application.  Since this was purchased through Apple, do they not offer an alternative?
I must call Rosetta Stone now also, huh?  All this money wasted just because Apple has made the decision to f everyone?

Microsoft Office is not an Apple product. It is not up to Apple to support it regardless of where you purchased it.
Unless you want to learn a new language, don't purchase Rosetta Stone. Rosetta Stone is language training software. Rosetta is the codename of the technology that allowed PowerPC code to run on an Intel-based Mac.
Rosetta was based on code now owned by IBM. Since Apple does not own it, it can't just arbitrarily make it available to you to run the software that has been updated not once, but twice since the PowerPC platform was abandoned.
You might try asking IBM to write you some software to run your old programs, or you can update them to something newer. If that cost is too expensive, you might consider one of the alternative Office-type suites such as Open Office, Libre Office, or NeoOffice.
iWork is also an alternative, but it is not free. The three individual parts, word processor, spreadsheet, and presentation software, each cost $20 on the Mac App Store.

  • OFFICE for the Mac, want lines on PPT slides to appear one at a time

I want to display lines on a ppt slide one line at a time/
I used to be able to do this by selecting Slideshow, Custom Automation, then "Appear"
I am using OFFICE for the Mac (2008).
But something has changed and I can no longer figure out how to get each line on a PPT slide to appear one line at a time every time I click it.
It's not that difficult, but I can't figured out where they moved the "Appear" option.
I am NOT using KEYNOTE, but PowerPoint from OFFICE for the Mac (2008)
    Can someone help me.
    Thanks,
    Tom

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you.
That info is exactly what I was looking for.
I tried it and it worked like a charm.
The older version of PowerPoint that I was familiar didn't have the "Add Entrance" step.
I knew that some smart and caring person would answer my plea for help.
    Thanks again.

  • What does "save" do in MS Office 11 for the mac?

I'm not sure this is the right forum to ask this in, but here goes:
Using MS Office 11 for the mac, if I view mail in my inbox, and click "Save" in the file menu, what does this do? Where is the file saved? "Save As" is grayed out, so this doesn't work. "Save" is NOT grayed out, so I assume it does something, but what?
    thanks!

Hello! Tried unsuccessfully to restore my MBP, running the Mac OSX Lion, to factory settings. I keep getting the "can't download additional components for the Mac OSX Lion" error when reinstalling the OSX Lion. Any tips on how to resolve this problem?

    Hi
Given that your answer to 1. is 'pre-installed' and 3. is 'No', I think the only thing to do is to take it to an Apple store (ideally the one you bought it from) and have them reinstall it for you.
The intended solution in cases like yours is that you should be able to reboot and install even a wiped disk by using Apple's servers over the internet (you do this by restarting with 'command-r' and choosing 'reinstall Lion'). However if this isn't working for you then you need to get the store to do it. Don't let them fob you off with 'go home and try again'. Have them do it in the shop (you're still covered by Applecare warranty so it should cost you nothing save the inconvenience of the trip and possibly leaving the machine there while they fix it).
A reinstall should leave all your own personal data and programs in place.
Note for future: when you get it fixed, first thing to do is buy a cheap external drive and start keeping a backup (either Time Machine or clone with Carbon Copy Cloner).

  • Excel/Word viewer for the Mac?

Is there a free viewer for excel & word docs for the mac as I can't open my attachments in mail?

I have a Macbook Pro Mac OS X (10.5.5) bought in July 2008 will open office work?
Yes. NeoOffice, suggested by another poster, is pretty well the same, but may run more slowly: OpenOffice in its latest version runs directly on Leopard (rather than requiring X11 like its earlier versions). It will allow you to edit and save the documents in a MS-compatible format should you require this. Both programs are free.

  • Installing a downloaded version of photoshop elements 8 for the mac

Can someone please help me.  I downloaded version 8 of photoshop elements for the mac (a paid version and not the trial).  When i click on the set-up icon and go through all the required information (i.e., serial number, etc.), the screen goes to checking the system and finally to "preparing to install".  It sits there and does nothing.  I have waited for hours but it just says "preapring to install".  I have downloaded the app a couple of times.  I rebooted a couple of times.  I am running Snow Leopard 10.6.1  I also have the earlier version of Photoshop Elements, version 6.  Can someone help please.  I have holding now for 73 minutes on Adobe's support line.

Try creating a new admin user (system prefs>user accounts) and using that
