Running old apple software under sheepshaver

Having finally successfully got sheepshaver v2.3 running, I now find that my old apps won't transfer or work!!!
Curses!
I've loaded up OS 8.5 from disc- after taking the disc out and giving it a good clean to get a full install- and it includes Simpletext, Apple FM Radio, Network Browser and Qicktime Pictureviewer and Movieplayer. These all load and text saved in Simpletext can be transferred as a file via the Unix folder on the virtual machine to the shared folder on the MacBook and opened with Textedit.
Attempts to move my old apps into the shared folder have led to some apps folders moving onto the desktop of the virtual machine and disappearing from the shared folder and some staying in the shared folder and appearing nowhere on the virtual machine. The folders on the virtual machine have documents and subfolders but appear to have lost the applications.
I am very puzzled.
I should add that I got the above sorted on 13.7.07 which was a Friday, so it may be a gremlin.
Any help/ advice/ cash/ ancient monuments will be gratefully received.
BTW- I've upgraded from OS7.5 via 8.6 from old PowerMacs that happily ran all my old apps. I hope to have at least ClarisWorks4 and MiniCad 6 running as I have a multitude of such files.

I've had this Intel 10.4 for a year and a half and don't run any Classic or earlier apps. I gave all the software to the folks that bought my G-3 and way back Preforma systems.
Yes good point elmac! The newer software for each system was always alot better and I could always bring my photo's and doc's to the new system. I would keep my systems for years then make a big jump to the newest system, the hardest part was that thrid party software was hard to come by and expensive.
I was just giving the OP something that may help them with that MiniCad 6 and other early software. I know the feeling, it hard to give away over a $1000.00 of old worthless software and a 8+ year old $2300.00+ computer for a $100 bill....

  • I run Windows 7 and the newest version (10.6) of iTunes will not install. The installer won't even begin, and when I run the Apple Software update, it tells me that iCloud and iTunes have invalid signature.

When I run the Apple Software update, it tells me that iCloud and iTunes have invalid signature and will not be downloaded. When I DL iTunes64setup.exe, the program will not start (there's a bar that flashes but nothing actually begins). I've done everything short of reinstalling Windows to fix this (system resore, unistalling all Apple products, taking down firewall, running Windows FixIt - which either won't find the problem or gives me an error saying that the troubleshooter cannot be downloaded at this time, going into the security features to allow programs without valid signatures, trying to install earlier versions of iTunes). It all started when I downloaded the Decemberists new album on my iPhone, and it wasn't downloading it properly so I connected it to my Dell, but some songs still wouldn't DL - also, the newest OS for my iPhone still won't install via WiFi - and so I uninstalled iTunes first, but nothing is helping. And I don't have any security issues (Norton has checked). Any ideas? I'm at my wit's end after 3 days of this. Thank you.

Ok, so after like 4 days of going through all these different issues, I figured out that several programs weren't downloading, and it was an issue with my wireless connectivity messing up the digital signatures, so if you plug in your comp to the modem and delete your temp files, it should start to work!

    You could try what
s in <http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=9289958#9289958>, or, as this is a new setup which isn't in use, you could just nuke the system and reinstall and this time use the correct DNS name.

This forum is for questions from those managing sites on iTunes U, Apple's service for colleges and universities to post educational material in the iTunes Store. You'll be most likely to get help with this issue if you ask in the general iTunes for Windows forums.

    (1) Download the Windows Installer CleanUp utility installer file (msicuu2.exe) from the following Major Geeks page (use one of the links under the "DOWNLOAD LOCATIONS" thingy on the Major Geeks page):
    http://majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4459
    (2) Doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file and follow the prompts to install the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (If you're on a Windows Vista or Windows 7 system and you get a Code 800A0046 error message when doubleclicking the msicuu2.exe file, try instead right-clicking on the msicuu2.exe file and selecting "Run as administrator".)
    (3) In your Start menu click All Programs and then click Windows Install Clean Up. The Windows Installer CleanUp utility window appears, listing software that is currently installed on your computer.
    (4) In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any Apple Software Update entries and click "Remove", as per the following screenshot:
    (5) Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try another iTunes install using an iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) downloaded from the Apple Website:

Does it go through properly this time?

  • I phone 4 hangs on to old Apple Id under i OS 5.0.1

I upgraded my Apple Id and the new Id shows up on my iPhone 4 under settings >store but the iPhone presentst the old apple id when I try to upgrade the apps I have purchaded.  It wants an old pasword that the system refuses to retieve.  I've tried the previously suggested solution of going to "Settings>Store...tap the Apple ID shown, sign out, then sign in using your current ID" but the phone still hangs on to the old ID.
I tried a restore (took three hours)  but the old Id came back to haunt me.  The system will not give me the old apple id password because it's not in email form.
I really love and depend on my iphone but don't want to repurchase all my apps if possable especially since Apple says u can re re-download a purchased app.
I have upgraded to iOS 5.0.1... has anyone out there encountered this problem?

  • Running old Mac software

I have al lot of data and old Mac software. After a number of Windows years I bought a MacBook and found out that this is not backwards compatible.
I need to run a major part of the old stuff for a celebration. So I think I should buy a second hand model which is able to to so.
What would be a suitable Mac? Which OS?

If all your stuff was readable on the 1996 Powerbook, it probably was moved mostly to 1.4 MB floppies. Those are readable with USB floppy drives in Mac OS X. The old 800k floppies with a single hole in the corner even changing the write protect tab are not readable by USB floppy drives and you would need a beige G3 to convert.
MacDraw documents are readable with Appleworks, or EazyDraw:
    MacDraft has been upgraded:
    http://www.microspot.com/products/macdraft/index.htm
Clarisworks is not easy to convert, though depending on your number of documents someone with Dataviz Maclinkplus can convert them to the word processor of your choice. Appleworks may be able to read Clarisworks documents as long as they are Clarisworks 4.
    Filemaker has been updated.
You may find intermediary hardware or software through resources on my*:

  • What can I legally do with old Apple software?

    Hi -
I've been going through closets and found packages of Apple software that I have purchased, installed and used -  but haven't used in years and don't intend to again.  I'm talking about Logic Studio V2.0 Final Cut Studio HD V7.0 and Final Cut Express HD.
Can I sell these used packages legally?
Will the new owner be "blocked" from using the same registration number I used even though I've uninstalled the software?
Thanks for any insight on the issue.
    Josh

Here's part of the SLA from FCS 2 (other versions are virtually the same): http://images.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/finalcutstudio2.pdf
    3. Transfer. You may not rent, lease, lend, sell, redistribute or sublicense the Apple Software. You may, however, make a one-time permanent transfer of all
of your license rights to the Apple Software to another party, provided that: (a) the transfer must include all of the Apple Software, including all its
component parts, original media, printed materials and this License; (b) you do not retain any copies of the Apple Software, full or partial, including copies
stored on a computer or other storage device; and (c) the party receiving the Apple Software reads and agrees to accept the terms and conditions of this
License. All components of the Apple Software are provided as part of a bundle and may not be separated from the bundle and distributed as standalone
    applications.
Updates: If an Apple Software update completely replaces (full install) a previously licensed version of the Apple Software, you may not use both versions of
the Apple Software at the same time nor may you transfer them separately.
NFR (Not for Resale) Copies: Notwithstanding other sections of this License, Apple Software labeled or otherwise provided to you on a promotional basis
may only be used for demonstration, testing and evaluation purposes and may not be resold or transferred.
Academic Copies: If the Apple Software package has an academic label or if you acquired the Apple Software at an academic discount, you must be an
Eligible Educational End User to use the Apple Software. "Eligible Educational End Users" means students, faculty, staff and administration attending and/or
working at an educational institutional facility (i.e., college campus, public or private K-12 schools).
So, while it states you cannot sell the software, it doesn't specifically ban you from charging the other party a "transfer fee."

  • When i try running itunes 10.5 it gives me an error saying  old apple softaware update could not be removed

having a problem updating to itunes 10.5. it installs but when i try to run, it gives an error that old apple software update could not be removed

From the article that the question was posted from:
    Error 1611
This error typically occur when security software interferes with the restore and update process. Follow Troubleshooting security software issues to resolve this issue. In rare cases, this error may be a hardware issue. If the errors persist on another computer, the device may need service.
Try reading the solutions you find in the future and follow them.

  • Should I let it install "Apple software update for windows 2.0.2"?

Thanks, in advance... it may just be a ditz of a question.
Running Vista and when in Mac occasionally run Parallels, Apple Software Update window popped and this update appeared:
Apple software update for windows 2.0.2 with the description
"This update includes general fixes and renews the root certificate that authenticates software delivered via Apple Software Update."
I figure it was logical enough considering the obvious link but the description just looked to vague. So, I put it off... today searching the internet, Apple Help and so on for this "update" cannot find it anywhere. I have already had problems with file corruption so "fixing root certificates" unnecessarily is not ideal.
Anyone else know one way or another or just tell it to go away for good?
    Thank you,
    Kylie

I never actually use Software Update excep to tell me there is something (if I hadn't read about it). I go to the standalone downloads. There was one for QuickTime for Windows that you DO want.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/
It sounds like Software Update for Windows, and that probably does deserve installing (I use x64 and don't really trust support yet or installers from Apple for now) so I have Apple software update in vista turned off.
I do have the 9-17-2007 2.0.2 "Apple Software Update for Windows" installed.
Why I don't trust Apple: alerts and UAC's are always hidden behind the installer window in front. I just tried to close the windows or dialogue box for Apple Software Update Preferences, it asked for UAC and went black, but I can't even close the box even though all I did was hit "Okay" button. So its 'hung' now.
Apple needs to improve the installer for Vista - a lot. I like not having to type a password every time, that has gotten old after 6 yrs.

  • I can't uninstall Apple Software Update.

In trying to uninstall ITunes, I was given a checklist from Apple Support to uninstall certain programs in a specific order. I need to reinstall ITunes, and they said that I needed to remove it first. I am running a Windows 7, 64 bit HP laptop. No program is removing this and it very specifically says to not remove them out of order.
Below are the instructions sent to me. (I tried to copy and paste. However, it doesn't look good, so I will include the link that Apple sent to me.)
    Can someone please help?
Remove and reinstall iTunes and related software components for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8
Learn how to completely uninstall iTunes and its related software components from Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8.
In some rare instances, you might need to remove iTunes and related software components before reinstalling iTunes. If you're directed to reinstall iTunes by AppleCare, an article, or an alert dialog, you can do so by following the steps below.
If you're running Windows XP, see Removing and Reinstalling iTunes and other software components for Windows XP.
Media you've bought from the iTunes Store or songs you've imported from CDs are saved in your My Music folder by default. They won't be deleted by removing iTunes. Although it's highly unlikely that you'll lose any of your iTunes Library when following the steps below, first make sure that your iTunes library is backed up. See iTunes: Back up your iTunes library by copying to an external hard drive for more information.
If you have issues installing iTunes, try the options outlined in Issues installing iTunes for Windows.
If you've received errors regarding inaccessible registry keys during installation, try the steps found in "Could not open key" message when installing iTunes, QuickTime or Apple components for Windows.
    Steps
Remove iTunes and related components from the Control Panel.Use the Control Panel to uninstall iTunes and related software components in the following order. Then restart your computer.
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
Apple Application Support (iTunes 9 or later)
Don't uninstall these components in a different order, or only uninstall some of them. Doing so might have unintended affects. To remove the components:
Quit the following programs if they are running:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Windows 8: Click File Explorer > Settings > Control Panel.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click "Uninstall a program." The Programs and Features Control Panel will open.
Alternately, if you don't see "Uninstall a program," click Programs and Features.
    Select iTunes.
    Click Uninstall.
On some systems, iTunes might install two versions of Apple Application Support. This is expected. If both are present, be sure to uninstall both versions.
When asked if you would like to remove iTunes, choose Yes.
After the uninstallation is complete, don't restart your computer if you're prompted.
If you see other iTunes entries in the list, remove them by repeating steps 4–6.
Using steps 4–6, also remove all instances of:
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Restart your computer.
Make sure that iTunes and its related components are completely uninstalled. In most cases, removing iTunes and its related components from the Control Panel will remove all supporting files belonging to those programs. In some rare cases, files might be left behind. After following the steps above, confirm that the following files and folders have been removed. If any are left, remove them.
    C:\Program Files\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\CoreFP
    C:\Program Files\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files\iPod\
Follow these additional steps  if you receive a "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program." message.
If you have a 64-bit version of Windows, confirm that the following folders have been removed:
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Bonjour
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\CoreFP
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes\
    C:\Program Files (x86)\iPod\
Follow these additional steps if you receive a "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program." message.
    To remove these files:
Windows Vista or Windows 7: From the Start menu, select Computer.
    Windows 8: Click File Explorer.
Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer, or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
    Open the Program Files folder.
Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
Right-click the iPod folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
Follow these additional steps if you receive a "Cannot delete iPodService.exe: It is being used by another person or program." message.

Right-click the CoreFP folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.
If you're running a 64-bit version of Windows, continue with step 12. Otherwise, skip to step 23.
Windows Vista or Windows 7: From the Start menu, select Computer.
    Windows 8: Click File Explorer.
Open Local Disk (C:) located in Computer, or whichever hard disk your programs are installed on.
Open the Program Files (x86) folder.
Right-click the Bonjour folder (if it exists). Select Delete from the shortcut menu. Choose Yes when asked to confirm the deletion.

Make sure that iTunes and the iPod Updater utility aren't open.
    Press and hold Control-Alt-Delete.
    Select Start Task Manager.
    Click the Processes tab.
Locate the iPodService.exe in the list.
Click iPodService.exe and choose End Process.
    Quit the Task Manager.

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
If the advice above doesn't resolve things you could try this alternate version:
    iTunes 12.1.0.71 for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) - itunes64setup.exe (2015-01-28)
which is a 64-bit installer for the 32-bit version of the core application, similar to previous 64-bit releases. Or roll back to the previous build:
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (32-bit) - iTunesSetup.exe (2014-10-16)
    iTunes 12.0.1.26 for Windows (64-bit) - iTunes64Setup.exe (2014-10-16)
