Running on one Fan - Bad?

Hi, I recently had my logic board replaced after that died, although my warrenty was up by a few days the Mac guys changed the board for free-thanks! However a month later (now) my right fan has died! the MBP is running upto 75C temp max when recording on Logic express and thats about how hot it gets. I am running on the left fan only now, flat out at 6000rpm.
So my Q's
is my left fan soon to die?, am i ok running as i am? I'm a poor student so is getting a fan replaced expensive or can i do it myself-if so any instructions anywhere?
Thanks for you help.

I wonder if your replacement logicboard has any kind of warranty on it--90 days or a year or something--that could cover replacing your fans? And you should replace both of them. If one has failed, the other has been trying to do the work of two and it should be considered to be compromised as well.
If you do have to pay for a repair, labor will probably be the biggest cost so replacing both shouldn't cost much more than replacing just one.
If you want to consider replacing it yourself, you can check out :

However, from what I hear, it is very easy to damage the logic board, so you need to weigh this option very carefully!
Good luck!

  • Will my 2006 macbook pro run ok with one fan?

i have an 2006 macbook pro and the right fan started  to sound like a lawn mower. I opened her up, took apart the fan, cleaned  it and put i back together and it still sounded like **** so i opened  it up again and disconnected the fan...my question is...will my computer  be ok with running on one fan for a bit until i get a replacement

Install istat pro and monitor the temperature.

No video, games, Skype and such and the MBP may survive.
Remember, the Apple engineers installed two fans for a reason.

  • Yoga 13 i5 only one fan is running

    Hi everybody,
I had that one issue that none of the fans were running at first. I opened the laptop and checked the cable connections after that one fan was running again but the other one is off the whole time.
I tested a few things like playing a game to see if the other one will start turning but no. While the left fan is reacting on workload and temperature the other is doing nothing. I saw the right one spinning some times while booting but not for long.
Has anyone an idea what the problem could be?
I also tried the program called Notebook Fancontrol where u can manually set the fan speed, but even if u set it on 100% only the left fan is running.
I have the newest Bios installed btw.
Thank u very much for ur help :-)

I've never had any problems with mine ever. The only freeze I've had was from a file I recorded on tivo, cut commericals out in movie maker and then re-encoded to the lowest possible bit rate that that zens nati've resolution supports. Try turning your sensitivity in the touch pad down. Sometimes if you have it up to high you may have a chance of doing that (although I have only had slow response, instead of a freeze by doing that).
You also have to compare to all of the other products out there: Ipod and Zune are a lot worse with pathetic little problems (annoyances). I didn't pay for tech support?

  • Only one fan running?

Hoping somebody can help me with this,
I have a macbook pro, bought late 2008.

    Model Identifier: MacBookPro5,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.53 GHz
    Number Of Processors: 1
    Total Number Of Cores: 2

    Bus Speed: 1.07 GHz
Ive recently got smcFanControl and I have noticed that only the left fan is running at 6196rpm with a temprature of 74 degrees.. and that is only with Chrome running.
Is that normal or is it time for me to get the fans changed?

Should I refrain from using the computer?
    Yes, backup and shut down.
I am planning on getting a new Macbook Pro in the coming months,
Now is the time, your tampering sealed it's fate.
but I just want to make sure that using the computer with only one fan won't harm it.
It will, it has dual cooling for a purpose, both sides of the cooling system need to chilled.
My computer is not working, is my personal data lost?

  • My macbook pro is running at a temp of 120 F or usually above 50C is this a normal temp for it to be running at? Just had it cleaned and the one fan does seem to be working properly. it

Just had it cleaned, and made sure the one fan is working. It just seems hot to the touch, and temp is above boiling point!
Thanks ahead of time for any help.

  • I have a new Macbook pro, about 2 months old, and at times running video, the fans starts and does not stop. how do you get it to stop.

I have a new Macbookbook, about 2 months old, and at times running video, the fans starts and does not stop. how do you get it to stop. Also i am thinking once the video is done  the fan should be slowing down and getting quiet on its own.

Your fan(s) will run at high speed (i.e., loudly) while video is playing, and you can't get around that.
If your fans are not slowing down within 2-4 minutes after CPU- and/or GPU-intensive usage ends, and the application that was showing the video is still running, Quit that application. (In fact, if you're accustomed to Windows, you may not realize that simply closing a Mac application's window does not quit the application. You still need to use the Quit command in the application-name menu. There will always be a bright dot beside or below the application icon in your Dock for each application that is open.) Quit the ones you aren't using, and see whether that allows the fans to slow down without restarting the machine. If that doesn't do the trick, reset the SMC:

CAPS isn't really of any help reading or getting help.
Try monitoring the temperature so you know for sure. Yes it can run hot.

You may want to boot from your original OS X DVD - hold D on statup - and that way run Apple Hardware Test

You don't. Apps are permanently tied to the ID used to purchase them. Instead of creating a new ID, change the primary email address on your existing ID.

  • How do I get The ipad locked to run only one application for customers (perhaps a webapp)

how do I get The ipad locked to run only one application for customers (just one web app, or video- instructions, or just safari). What I really want is that my customers to only use one app that has all my services. It is an interactive app so I would not like them to go surfing elsewhere while they are in my store.
Is it possible to do this on the iPad ?

    Try this:
LabVIEW Champion . Do more with less code and in less time .

  • Stop an instance of JavaScript running in one tab

I generally work with multiple (many) tabs open in Firefox. However, a JavaScript running in one tab can hang all of Firefox to the point where I have to stop and restart Firefox. Is there a way to kill / stop the particular script that is running that is causing Firefox to hang without bringing down Firefox entirely ?
I realize NoScript or othert add-ons can be used to block JavaScript entirely, but that's not what I want at this point.

If I could close the offending tab, I would do that and there would be no problem. The problem is that a script running in one tab has hung firefox entirely so that I cannot take any actions through firefox, such as closing the tab in question by clicking on the "X". At that point, nothing in firefox works and the only way out is to kill the firefox process/PID from Windows, or if a message comes up that firefox is not responding, then take the action to stop it. In any case stopping firefox entirely is what I am trying to avoid: it's like having to reboot the OS because one lousy process is causing a problem. What one would ideally like to be able to do is to kill the specific instance of the script (presumably javascript) from outside firefox, which might cause the specific tab to die, but not all of firefox. I generally know what tab is causing the problem because that's the one I'm working in, doing something and then it hangs. 98% of the time when it happens it's the "active" tab. It seems to me that one tab ought not be able to hang firefox entirely, just as one application's process should not be able to hang the OS entirely, and at least there ought to be tools or a method to deal with it without stopping firefox completely.

You haven't mentioned which mail it is,
If it is G-mail go to settings --> general tab--> default text style , you can change your font size & then save at the bottom of the page

I have recently had problems in getting my Adobe Premiere Elements 10 to run. One of the gentlemen was able to take over control of my computer, and got it working for me, however since that time the program will sometimes open but most times it just freezes the computer and I have to shut it down and re open without any success with opening the elements program.
    Can you help

    Sosure
What computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 10 running on?
What video card/graphics card does your computer use? NVIDIA GeForce? If so, please read the Announcement about the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA GeForce issue which is found at the top of this web site. Does that apply to you? The explanation for the situation and the fix (roll back of the driver version) are all included in that Announcement.
We need to rule in or out this factor at the onset before we get to other questions
    a. non NIVIDIA video card/graphics card driver
    b. project preset and properties of source media
    c. computer details
    More later.
We will be watching for your reply.
    Thank you.
