Running on os 10.2....wanting to upgrade

Hi, I'm running my powerbook g4 on os 10.2.8 and I want to upgrade to the jaguar, but I'm not sure how that will affect my software. Will I need to re-install my software? What about my files?
Thanks

Not seeing that on the iCloud Support page I'm looking at https://www.apple.com/support/icloud/getstarted/ :
To use iCloud, make sure you have the following:
iOS, Mac OS X, or Windows
Your device must have one of the following operating systems:
iPhone, iPod touch, or iPad: iOS 5 or later
Mac: OS X Lion 10.7.5 or later
Windows: Windows 7 or Windows 8 and the iCloud Control Panel
Cheers,
GB
P.S. - I LOVE your California Flag! I'm a native....

I want to wait, but it asks every time. Wat a pain.

The replies don't address the question: "I started getting bombarded with requests to upgrade to Firefox 5.0. This goes on all day, all night...it never stops. Is there a place I can ask you guys to please stop?"
I have the same problem: I also don't want to upgrade to 5.0 (4.0 messed me up enough and I finally got that straightened out). How do I stop those annoying requests? It should have a "No" option.

  • Have 10.4 recovery discs, but running on 10.5 and want to upgrade to 10.6?

    Hi all!
1st qn: I have a mid-07 MB that came with OSX 10.4. Then last December the HDD crashed and i sent it for repair. The technician installed 10.5 onto my MB but i wasn't allowed to exchange my recovery discs to the 10.5 ones. I was told that in the event i needed to do a restore, my OSX 10.5 would be restored back to a 10.4 since my discs are 10.4 ones.
My question is if i go for the $29 upgrade pack, is it alright? I will be getting a new set of installation+recovery discs?
I'm a relatively new Mac user and never did an OS upgrade before, i'm not sure if each OS has its own set of installation+recovery discs...
2nd qn: if my ext HDD is already mac-formatted on my 10.5, after i back-up and upgrade to 10.6, the ext HDD doesn't have to be reformatted again and i should see what i last saw inside the ext HDD as per the backup?
Thanks for your patience in reading!!!

the technician only meant that if you bring your mac in for repairs to the apple store and THEY need to restore it they will put 10.4 back on it. that's just a policy, not a technical requirement. you yourself can do whatever you want and there is certainly no reason to ever put 10.4 back on your mac now.
My question is if i go for the $29 upgrade pack, is it alright?
oops, misread your first post. I would think it's not all right actually. 10.5 was put on your computer by mistake. you need to own a 10.5 install disk to run it legally.
I will be getting a new set of installation+recovery discs?
yes. it's just one installation disk. you only got two with the new computer because it includes ilife and didn't fit on one disk.

    of course.

  • MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11    Want to upgrade

Have a first generation MacBook Pro running OS 10.4.11.  How far up can I upgrade and how do I go about that?   Where can I find the needed upgrades

    vjbunny,
how far you can upgrade depends upon which model you have. If you have an Early 2006 model, you can upgrade to Snow Leopard (Mac OS X 10.6); if you have a Late 2006 model, you can upgrade to Lion (Mac OS X 10.7); all other models can upgrade to Mavericks (OS X 10.9). You’ll need to purchase a white retail Snow Leopard DVD, install Snow Leopard, and run Software Update to get to Mac OS X 10.6.8 before you can run the Mac App Store, which (if your model allows) will then let you purchase and download Lion or Mountain Lion, or download Mavericks gratis. Note that you might need to increase the amount of RAM in your MacBook Pro to run the newer version of OS X well. Also note that if you currently run any Mac OS apps (as opposed to Mac OS X apps) in the Classic environment, that you will no longer be able to do so using any version of OS X newer than Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4); and that if you currently run any PowerPC apps, that you will no longer be able to do so if you upgrade to Lion or newer.

  • Running parallels with windows xp. want to upgrade my Quickbooks to 2013, but it will not recognize the disc.  Help!

running parallels with windows xp and OS X Lion.  Trying to upgrade my Quickbooks on the windows side to the new 2013 version.  The windows side does not even recognize the disc.  What am I doing wrong?

S that QB edition is only for windows 8. It won't run on any earlier version of windows.
Looking at the QB 2013 system requirement it runs on XP.
    http://support.quickbooks.intuit.com/support/articles/INF21187
So the version of windows is not your problem. Your problem is the virtual machine is not se to use the mac dvd drive. Have you looking into the machine settings. Not windows settings, the virtual machine settings. Make sure it is set to connect the mac dvd drive to the virtual machine.
A good place to start would be the parallels help system. Not the windows help system.

  • I have a 2006 iMac and currently run Snow Leopard. I want to upgrade to Lion, but don't know if my computer is too old to run OS 10.7

I was hoping to upgrade to Lion 10.7 in order to utilize iCloud with my iPhone.  However, I cannot determine if the OS 10.7 is compatible with an 2006 iMac.  I am currently running Snow Leopard.  Everything I've looked at on the Apple Site shows the newer OS on a laptop with a touch pad.  Does this disqualify an iMac?

Correct, they are different generations of processors. The Core 2 Duo being a 64bit processor. The Core Duo being 32 bit. Lion needs a 64 bit processor.
You would think the chip manufacturers could come up with more distinct names. :-)

The iPod 3g will only support iOS up to 4.2.1 and nothing beyond that.

Do Not post stuff about how Airplay doesnt work, because i dont have Apple TV and dont need to hear about it.

If you have an external drive equal to or larger than your internal HD, clone your internal to it with either Carbon Copy Cloner or Super Duper. Test the clone to make sure it's bootable. Then upgrade either one. Try it out first.

You don't need a computer to activate a new iOS device anymore. Anything with iOS 5 can be activated over a WiFi network (or cellular if that applies).

I want to upgrade to Lightroom 5, but I'm concerned about compatibility with my 2008 intel Core 2 Duo iMac with only 4G of Ram.  Will I be able to run Lightroom 5 okay if I upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion?  What will happen to the applications that aren't 64-bit compatible?  Also the Eye-one Display 2 colorimeter to calibrate the monitor will not run on Lion, so that will be an expensive upgrade to an i1DisplayPro. Is the upgrade important enough to offset the expense?  I have an Epson R2000 printer.  Will there be problems with the drivers if I upgrade to Lion?  It would be great to hear from other mac users who are also photographers and who print their own photos.

Before upgrading to Lion be sure to read this link:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271
    Adobe lists these requirements:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop-lightroom/tech-specs.html
Looking at http://www.everymac.com/ even the earliest 2008 iMac was fully 64 bit, even though Boot Camp doesn't support 64 bit Windows on that machine.

    Yes. Try Amazon.
Before you do upgrade to Snow Leopard, make sure your Mac meets the requirements.

Make sure the disc you tried using doesn't have any fingerprints or smudges on it. The optical drive can't read the disk otherwise.
If your Mac won't read the disc, might be a good idea to rule out any problems with the startup disk BEFORE trying to upgrade the system.

You can upgrade to Mountain Lion
Upgrading from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99.
If you sign into the App Store and try to purchase Mountain Lion but the App Store says your computer is not compatible then you may still be able to upgrade to Lion per the following information.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
         Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table - RoaringApps.
For a complete How-To introduction from Apple see Upgrade to OS X Mountain Lion.

I keep getting a Networking Error: when i run Software update. i have 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to at least 10.6 or later. i know the network is working perfectly.

Snow Leopard OS 10.6 is not available via Software Update, it is paid upgrade.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:
