Running OS 10.5.x on Mac Mini (PPC-based, PowerMac10,2)

A friend of mine has a Late 2005 Mac Mini (PPC-based, PowerMac10,2). She currently runs OS 10.4.11 and the Mac is running fine.
I have a few questions:
[1] Can this machine run OS 10.5.x?
[2] Even if it can, in terms of speed and running application, is it a realistic thing to do?
I want her to use a program called RapidWeaver on her Mac Mini. But, its system requirement is OS 10.5. That's one of the reasons why I am posting this question.

Oh, yes, thanks so much for mentioning that! My friend has a printer that came (I think) free with her Mac Mini back when she purchased the computer. I am now looking at the System Profiler file that I asked her to generate, and under Printers, I see Lexmark Z25-Z35 and Stylus CX4200. I believe that the Lexmark is the wireless printer that she prints to.

Adobe CC applications are very large and the base Mac mini isn't a good choice because it has only 4GB of RAM and has a slow standard hard drive. To get the most out of ACC you should upgrade the mini to at least 8GB. I'd also choose an SSD or Fusion drive for better performance.

I am wondering if it is possible to install and run Windows Server 2008 on a Mac Mini Server as a VM as my main application uses Windows VisualBasic and Fox Pro and requires a Static IP to connect to it, My other offices connects to Windows Server via RDP.
Basically I am researching a Server for the same purpose and since Mac Mini and OsX both are robust in nature it can fit the bill if every thing work fine.

I do suggest that you upgrade RAM to at least 8gig

To run it, you only have to hold down the D key while your Mac is starting up, and follow the steps.

Install library receipts from a MacBook Pro onto a Mac Mini PPC

I have a pay per Mbyte internet connection at home, but unlimited internet where I work. I am hoping to install updates on the MacBook Pro at work and keep the receipt .pkg files and install them on the Mac Mini PPC at home so I don't have to pay for the large file size. Any idea if this will work?

you don't need the receipts; you need the updates themselves. just download them at work, store them on external media, and install at home. assuming you aren't violating any "acceptable use" policy at work, you'll be fine.

I have a problem with my MAC Mini PPC.
Under Tiger 10.4.11 OR Leopard 10.5.5 (every version and every update) the audio works and not works!! (for example: I booted my mac mini, the audio works correctly! After 10 minutes, the audio don't work... O_o)
After another 30, 40 minutes... the audio works now!
Under System->Preferences->Audio the settings are right, and in the sidebar (on top) the audio's icon it is activate!
Where is the problem???

Can I run 4 super drives with my Mac Mini Server

I have Lion Server downloaded to my Mac Mini (set up as a TV server) and would like to be able to access the 4 USB Super Drive ports via other Mac Mini's in other rooms, 2 Apple TV's if possibe through Apple TV software and maybe Macbook Pro via AirPlay. Are these things possible. The Mac Mini Server is the Best Home television distribution network. Cheaper hardware and fast internet connection based on devices. The above is my goal.
My individual questions...
Can I place 4 Super Drives in the 4 USB slots and run them?
What is the most effiecent way to be able to server those drives on ONLY my Apple Network (other Mac Mini and 2 Apple TV's)
Can I access multiple drives at once from different devices on my Apple Network?
Can I restrict access to teen and child users based on the TV Rating displayed on DVD in Super Drive? (ex: iTunes recognizes CD's by times of songs and digital fingerprint when I input my Store bought CD or adds it to the Database if its a new title.)

a dvd drive can never be shared over a network in order to play the dvd drives content
the dvd encryption makes this imposible
you have to rip (which is illegal) each dvd disc to a computer in order to do what you wish to do
and it's not an apple thing it's the case no matter which computer you own

Run HD and VGA from the mac mini

Hi, i am looking to run a HD signal and a a VGA adapter out of the mac mini but i was told you don't have dual adaptors to do this. It is either one signal or the other. Could you please help

It would help to know which exact model of mini you have, but if you've placed your question in the correct section you should be able to run dual displays in the combination you would like. What type of connection do you mean by 'HD'?

Wo runs a regular OSX lion (not the server edition ) on a mac mini server without any problems ?

Anyone run MythTV or similar on G4 Mac Mini

I'm thinking of buying a cheap G4 Mac Mini on eBay, and putting Debian on it.
Running it as a seed box and general fileserver, and ideally with MythTV too with TV tuner.
Has anyone tried MythTV or similar on the G4? I'm unsure if it's going to have enough power to do the encoding stuff, if I want to save a TV programme.

The machine was working fine for more than a year. It was running EyeTV all of the time, cutting videos and archiving movies. No problem there ...

That doesn't mean anything when it comes to RAM and iDVD. iDVD will find any RAM quality weakness. Weakness that even RAM testing software won't find. I've seen it a lot here.
Apple (OEM), Micron (Crucial.com), and Samsung are highly regarded. I even saw a removed Micron solve an encoding problem. Hey, nothing is prefect.

Running Final Cut 4 on a Mac Mini...what do I do?

Well after installing final cut 4 on my new mac mini I realized I need an AGP card to run it. Thing is I'm new to the mac mini and don't know if I can install and AGP card because it doesn't appear to have the slot like other desktop computers do. I think that you guys have missed something in the OP's post. He says "new" mini and FCP 4. These two things don't go together.

to run FCP on your new intel based mini you need to crossgrade to FCS 5.1. FCP4 is not universal and will not run well if it will run at all on this machine. For you I believe the crossgrade would be $199.

I have a brand new iMac 27" with a PC partition on it. The PC side runs on Windows 7 Enterprise. My husband has a PC with Windows XP on it.
The brand new Mac Mini Server works fine for our macs, but the PCs are unable to connect. How do I get the PCs to see and connect to the Mini Mac Server?

The iOS simulator runs very slow on my new Mac mini. Any ideas on how to speed it up?

I am trying to demonstrate a new iPhone app using the Mac mini and the iOS Simulator software. It runs, but it runs very slowly -- not acceptable for a presentation. Any ideas so I can make it run faster?

Mac mini ppc finder in infinite loop

I have a ppc mac mini, a few days ago after logging in the finder seems to wig out. It flashes to the front. If I try to open a finder window it flashes on the screen then it is gone, it comes back for a second and gone again. To do anything on the computer is near impossible.
I have tried booting from disc and it does not like any of the 3 I have. I tried booting in safe mode and it sits at the apple with the gray wheel spinning endlessly.
I can access the hard drive through my network and am in the process of grabbing all important files off.
Does anyone have any ideas that I should try?

Can you tell us if the mini actually boots so that you can reach the finder and desktop? If it can, but it hangs at the Apple logo on the grey screen during a safe mode boot which your first post suggests, then this is an unusual problem indeed!
Have you rescued all your data from the system now?
If the mini is as unresponsive as you suggest, and given that it's not entirely clear what symptoms you are describing, it may be rather difficult to run any of the normal software to try and diagnose this.
However, there are a few things to try before going any further.
First, reset PRAM. This is the area of memory which the Mac users to store basic settings.
To reset it...
-Shut down the computer.
-Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in the next step but one.
-Turn on the computer.
-Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
-Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
-Release the keys.
You'll know it worked if you can see the desktop after the system starts up because the clock and date will have reset too.
If that doesn't help, try a PMU reset:
To reset the PMU
-Unplug all cables from the computer, including the power cord.
-Wait 10 seconds.
-Plug in the power cord while simultaneously pressing and holding the power button on the back of the computer.
-Let go of the power button.
-Press the power button once more to start up your Mac mini.
If that doesn't work, let us know if you can access the finder at all on the system, sufficient to run anything. If not, I fear it may be necessary to reinstall MacOS, though your earlier comment that you'd tried booting of the disc and nothing happened despite trying 3 that you have is not inpsiring confidence!
Hopefully though, that'll get the ball rolling after a couple of weeks waiting!
