Running Photoshop CS2
I have been having serious difficulties with Photoshop on my MacBook pro.
It will run just fine and then for no reason won't open anything. It will just sit there and give me the rotating circle forever. I have to reinstall Photoshop for it to correct itself.
Is anyone else aware or have this issue? Is there any way to correct it?
Thanks in advance.
Blanketly blaming it on being a non-Universal/Intel application isn't right, especially gien the number of Intel Mac owners out there, including myself, using it without issue. While the Adobe CS2 applications aren't perfect under Rosetta they mostly stable. I would think there were wider system issues if a reinstallation fails to be stable.

Can I install and run Photoshop CS2 on a Windows 7 64Bit OS?
I just purchased a computer It is a Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit OS. Can I install and run Photoshop CS2? What issues would I have?
For what it's worth I have Photoshop CS2 running fine on Vista x64, but I've not moved it over to my Windows 7 x64 machine. Generally speaking, things that work fine on Vista x64 work fine on Windows 7 x64.
That said, you might want to wait until you hear from someone who's actually tried the exact combination themselves.

Will Windows 7 run Photoshop CS2?
Will a new laptop running Windows 7 be able to run Photoshop CS2?
Mary LouIn a nutshell, with User Account Control enabled, Windows Vista and newer try to run your programs as though you're a non-privileged user, even if your account is a privileged Administrator of the computer (most people set themselves up as Administrator). UAC also redirects accesses to certain parts of the file system to other places, and this is what can interfere with the operation of Photoshop.
The idea is that if you inadvertently run malware, it has less chance to wreck your system if you're running it in a non-privileged manner.
If you're confident your good computing practices and anti-malware software are protecting you from malware infections, then you can disable UAC and Windows will run pretty much as it did back in the day (of XP). With UAC disabled (set to the lowest setting), if you're a privileged user all the software you run will have full privileges, and no file accesses will be redirected.
It may be that you can temporarily disable UAC while installing Photoshop CS2, then reset it back to default levels. I haven't tried that but it has a chance of working.
To disable UAC, do this:
1. Click Start, then type UAC into the search box (don't hit Enter).
2. When Change User Account Control Settings comes up, click it.
3. Drag the slider to the bottom ("Never notify").
Some light reading: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_Account_Control
It's worth taking the time to understand what UAC does, then you'll fully understand the risks you're taking (or not taking) by changing the settings.

Photoshop (CS2) Quitting Unexpectedly
I've been running Photoshop CS2 on my MacBook Pro OS X Version 10.6.7 for over a year now, and just recently, I've been experiencing issues with it crashing unexpectedly. I'm not able to work on a file for very long (5-10 seconds) before it crashes, or it will crash upon opening a file, or crash immediately after being launched. Below, I've included the details of the error message I keep receiving from the crashes.
A "Problem Report for Photoshop" window appears upon crashing with the following message:
"Photoshop quit unexpectedly. Click Reopen to open the application again. This report will be sent to Apple automatically."
(When I've clicked Reopen, it will sometimes reopen, only to crash again, or it won't reopen at all.)
The following "Problem Details and System Configuration" are also detailed in the message window:

Rosetta is buggy, and has gained more bugs with some recent MacOS updates.
Also, there are already about a dozen other topics in this forum on the same issue.
Your choices: dig out a PowerPC based computer, wait for Apple to fix the Rosetta bug, or upgrade Photoshop to get Intel native code. -
Photoshop CS2 in Mac Snow Leopard: faint, pale colours when printed
I used to use Photoshop CS on my old PPC eMac with OS 10.4.11 (Tiger), and printed succesfully on good quality glossy photo paper using an Epson Stylus Photo R340 printer. I have now upgraded to an Intel Mac mini with OS 10.8.3 (Mountain Lion). I am afraid I cannot afford to buy the latest version of Photoshop, so I have installed Parallels Desktop and, within it, Snow Leopard Server, so that I can run Photoshop CS2.
I have now got the correct driver for my printer and all the printer and paper profiles. Using exactly the same profile and other settings that I used to use with Photoshop CS on my old computer, when I printed a TIFF image, the results were a print with extremely pale, washed-out colours. When I used the 'Preview' feature of the printer software, the colours looked good, but when I printed they were hopeless.
I don't think it is the printer. If I set the Photoshop output to let the printer determine colours, I get quite good results. But when I switch to letting Photoshop determine colours, I get these impossibly pale colours. I have checked through all the preference settings of Photoshop CS2 and cannot find anything that might account for this misbehaviour. I should be most grateful for any help or advice.Since posting the above, I have made a discovery. I looked up the system requirements of different versions of Photoshop. Here is the relevant part of Adobe's list:
This suggests that CS2 will not run in Snow Leopard (OS 10.6)! But it also suggests that CS will not run in Tiger (10.4), and I used CS succesfully for years in Tiger on my old PPC computer. So what does all this mean? Are these minimum requirements? In that case where can I find the upper limits? Is CS2 supposed to run properly in Snow Leopard? -
R6034 error Photoshop CS2 drag & drop
I've had this problem for some time. I'm on Vista-64-SP2 running Photoshop-CS2 When first installed PS-CS2 worked fine. I got no errors when starting the program and I could drag & drop icons from the desktop or windows onto the Adobe taskbar icon and the photo would load normally.
Then I let Adobe automatically upgrade my CS2 and other Adobe products (Dreamweaver CS4, Illustrator CS2, GoLive6, Reader, Flash browser plug-in, etc.) and then I started getting a windows error message R6034 saying that "An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly." Microsoft says the fix is to recompile the application. Yeah right!
OK, so I delete Photoshop and other applications and reinstall them all and the problem goes away ... until I let Adobe automatically update the products and the problem comes back. Yes, I can probably live with an unupdated virgin version of Photoshop CS2 but there should be an answer from Adobe or at least someone else to validate that my complaint is not unique.
Another problem that may be related is that I've seemed to have lost the ability for Adobe GoLive6 to open Photoshop images for editing
Also I've lost the ability to drag & drop from the desktop or a window onto an open Photoshop application or onto its icon on the taskbar.
I've searched the web and find nothing similar. The solutions I have found were unrelated to my situation or were for a Macintosh. I've searched the forums here and find nothing that gives an answer.
I know pretty much what I'm doing around computers and I keep a clean system. Informed replies are most appreciated.I don't think you will have much luck on that one. The problem here clearly is the way 32bit DLLs need to be piped on 64bit systems, which for some reason does not seem to work in your case, probably due to soem registry key being changed and then it messes up the wghole OLE/ DDE/ COM shebang. It may be further complicated by some dispaly routiner incompatibility. Since CS2 was never developed with Vista 64 in mind, you can't even exactly blame someone and this seems a common problem with an assortment of legacy apps, not just Adobe programs. What you could try is to download Sysinternals' Process Monitor, establish a filter rule specific to the updater and see, which registry keys it changes, which DLLs it replaces etc. this may then offer some clues as to which ones you need to salvage before the update and may possibly put back into place thereafter. May work, may not, but in any case you are doing it on your own responsibility....

Printing problem from Photoshop CS2 to HP 3500CP plotter
I am running Photoshop CS2 on the computer connected to my 3500CP plotter. I have for the past few years had no problem printing. This past several days tried to proint a banner for my daughter's birthday and whenI go from Print with Preview to start the print it shows the plotter is receiving the file. The plotter automatically does a printhead check and then shows it is printing but then just starts rolling a blank page out until I stop it and reset everything. I have run several tests on the plotter and all come back good so I am guessing it is coming from Photoshop though I am doing nothing different than I have before. I hope someone has a suggestion sisnce I need this banner before Friday. My daughter turns 33 on 11/11/11. Thank you in advance.
Well... I fixed the problem a little differently. I got a 100% + costs refund from HP themselves and bought an Epson! Boy, was that ever the right decision to make. I've had not a single problem with the Epson where the HP gave me a litany of endless drama. I can't understand why a printer maker needs to create faulty and bug ridden software that wants to take control over both Windows and Photoshop and then they try and blame everyone except themselves.
The HP Z5400 postscript printer proved one important thing to me... You only ever get what you pay for. I run canvas about4 to 5 hours a day with the Epson. I had to stay at work past 8 hours a day just to get the same amount of work out of the HP. For speed, I've never had anything faster than a Canon 8100 but the hidden costs of ownership are horrendous. The HP was the cheapest printer I've had and the slowest. The Epson is economical to run, performs at a reasonable speed and doesn't have any hidden costs.
After 5 months of hassling HP to get the "next day, on-site" support I paid $1200 extra for and never got, I can guarantee you I'll never , ever own another Hewlett Packard product again. I had to go to the Asian Pacific head off to get anyone who'd listen to me. The Australians wanted me to sign a form I'd keep my mouth shut and sacrifice nearly a grand I'd put into it before talking about a refund. Then I discovered they'd been fined 3 MILLION bucks by the competition and consumer watch dog in Australia over telling someone who bought a $200 printer to go take a walk when it dropped its guts a few weeks after buying it. That mob is pure poison for consumers. -
Photoshop CS2 Trial Install Crash on Mac Pro
Well, I've seen the benchmark sites running Photoshop CS2 on a Mac Pro, but when I try to install the trial version, it crashs during the install process. I tried re-installing Mac OS X and re-installing Photoshop first thing, but with the same result.
A search only brought up a previously known issue with QuickTime 7.1, but the fix was to update to 7.1.1 - since my install has QT 7.1.2 this doesn't seem applicable.
Doom3 is the only other Rosetta app I've tried, and it runs fine - heck, I didn't even initially realize that the demo is the PPC-only version.
Has anyone else gotten it successfully installed? I don't want to spring out the cash for the full thing until I know it works (and I want to test out the Kodak Digital ROC plug-in to make sure it works as well.)
(I'm asking here since my lack of search results leads me to think it might be Mac Pro specific.)
Take care,
P.M.
Mac Pro Mac OS X (10.4.7) (2.66/160GB/7300GT/2GB/BT + 250GB PATA drive)This worked for me....
Restart
During restart, hold Ctrl + Command + P + R to reset the PRAM
After this, the computer will flash and reboot again and should boot into the Mountain Lion Installer.
Good luck. -
Photoshop CS2 has serious error and needs to be reinstalled * 3
Hello,
I am running photoshop CS2 at work and had it open very slowly this morning (3minutes) and then give me an error message - Photoshop has encountered a serious error and needs to restart. I did this 3 times and it still is not working. I did a full uninstall each time, trashed prefferences, repaired permissions and restared but with no luck. Capture One is not opening either, but one step at a time here.
Anyone have any suggestions?
thaksA little more info:
This seems particularly likely to happen when I open a sequence on the timeline that has more than 5 audio tracks.
I'm using OS Mavericks 10.9.5. Video footage is .R3D. I have the crash report if that helps. -
Significant problem saving files in Photoshop CS2
I am running Photoshop CS2, with Windows Vista Home Edition.
My problem is a new one, as Ive been running the program the exact same way since I bought it several years ago. Two weeks ago I bought an Intuos 3 tablet, and installed the software that came with it (including Corel Painter Essentials), and updated the drivers for Vista. After doing so, the appearance of my save menu changed in photoshop, but everything still ran properly.
Yesterday when I tried to save a file that I had opened and modified (a photoshop file, not .jpg), Photoshop stopped responding. I did not receive any error message, the program simply froze, and refused to respond. I gave it more than five minutes before shutting it down. This has happened three consecutive times. I can save a new file, (using the save as function), but anytime I attempt to merely save (either using control-s, or by selecting save from the file menu) Photoshop stops responding.
I have not edited any preferences or settings.
I have lost a great deal of time and work over this, and am beyond frustrated. Any help would be very truly appreciated! Thanks for the suggestions guys, unfortunately I'm still experiencing the same problem.
There was nothing off screen, escape did not help. I don't usually get a box when all I'm doing is saving (unlike using 'save as'). I haven't had any messages from Windows Error Reporting, and don't see anything in the System Event Log, but don't know exactly what I'm looking for as I don't access it regularly.
I've ordered the CS4 upgrade. Should arrive this week.
My new question is, should I uninstall my current configuration, install Photoshop Elements 6.0 (which came with my tablet), and upgrade that? Or should I leave it as is, and install the upgrade on my current configuration?
Will CS4 fix my problem? Or will the problem merely transfer onto it?
Any help greatly appreciated! -
Using iBook 12" for PhotoShop CS2? Durability compared to PowerBook?
I'm thinking about getting a new Mac. I would really like an iMac 20", but that may be too much to spend right now.
I'm thinking an iBook would give me portability, as well as being able to connect to a monitor and keyboard while at home. I suppose it is like a Mac Mini, but with a built in monitor and keyboard.
My questions are:
1. How well will the 12" iBook run PhotoShop CS2, with 1.5GB of RAM? (Is the PowerBook 15" much faster?)
2. Is the iBook more durable than the PowerBooks? I prefer the look of the PowerBook, since the iBook looks like a student laptop, but if it's more durable, I guess I can live with that.
3. Is the 4500 RPM hard drive a big drawback compared to the 5400 RPM drives in the PowerBooks?
I will mainly be using Adobe CS2, Macromedia Dreamweaver and Microsoft Office.
Thanks for any help,
SteveHi Steve,
I have a 12" iBook G4 with 1.5gb of ram and I run the adobe creative suite just fine. The ram is definately going to help you in terms of running multiple CS applications at once.
As far as the hard drive is concerned...of course a 4200rpm drive is going to be slower than a 5400. But I dont consider it to be too much of a drawback. Most of my work in CS is done with an external firewire drive spinning at 7200 anyway.
As far as durability goes, i cannot comment on a powerbook as I have never owned one. I keep my iBook in an incase iBook sleve, its with me all the time and so far has been well protected. However, Powerbook or iBook...if you drop it..its going to get damaged in some way.
Good luck with your decision. -
Date preferences problem - Photoshop CS2 and OS X 10.4.6
I am running Photoshop CS2 9.0.1 on two Mac G5s (Mac OS X 10.4.6) and Photoshop CS 8.0 on a Mac G4 (Mac OS X 10.4.6) but now have a problem with the correct display of dates in File Info on the pair of G5s running CS2 9.0.1.
However I configure the date display preferences in International in System Preferences (UK prefs - DD/MM/YYYY) File Info will now only display the date as 'short', i.e. 1/6/06, for example. Naturally this presents a major problem with all my pre-2000 dates. By contrast, with exactly identical System Preferences on the G4 with Photoshop CS, the dates display correctly, i.e. 01/06/2006 or 06/06/1944. One of the G5s also has Photoshop CS 8.0 and also exhibits the same problem.
Is this an OS X 10.4.6 update problem, as I believe, or a combination of flaws between Apple and Adobe? Is there a cure? With a vast number of images in a picture library it is essential to have accurate, pre-2000, dates embedded in the File Info metadata. Can anyone offer an answer, a solution or a workaround? After much trial and error I eventually discovered a fix. When customizing the Date Format Preferences (UK) (in System Preferences/International) select 'Short' and then drag the day of the week from the list below as the first item in the displayed date; i.e. Thursday 08/06/2006
Then modify the DD, MM and YYYY by highlighting the numbers and selecting the full 2 or 4 number digit from the drop-down menus. This is something that seemed to be fine in 10.4.5 but has changed in 10.4.6! -
Photoshop CS2 Layer Styles / Blending Options stopped working
I'm running Photoshop CS2 on PC. When right clicking on layers to bring up the Layer Styles / Blending Options palette, I can get the palette okay but the selections won't work when I check the boxes.
I try to select different options....drop shadow, inner shadow, etc. but nothing shows up. It's not a preview problem because the changes are not visible in my image even after I select OK.
I've reset my preferences (alt+ctl+shift) but it didn't help.
Can anyone suggest to me what I can do to wake up this palette?? I've got work pending and my online searches have left me empty handed.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
LisaThank you both for your responses.
John: The file is PSD, RGB mode, 300dpi. Last night, I tried the layer styles in another file and it wouldn't' work.... another NEW file. Today, I opened an existing file that had layers styles already in effect and I can see them, I can click them on/off AND I can put layer styles onto other layers in the existing files that did not have them previously. I just tried creating a new file and, of course, the layer styles now work in the NEW file.... this is something I tried last night and it didn't work at that time.
Ed: Yes, I'm on the right layer. I've tried it on several layers, none of which are transparent. Thanks for the heads up.
So, this tells me it's something to do with this particular image file. I must've accidentally hit something that's put it into a strange mode. Last night, out of frustration, I just gave up, shut it all down, and turned the computer off. This morning, I went in and created a new image document and then one by one I copied and pasted the layers of my malfunctioning image into the new one. Now I can get the layers to work.
I have no idea what was wrong, but it seems I should just trash the problematic file and start fresh. At least the individual layers were not compressed and it's still salvagable.
Thank you both for your time and consideration!

Photoshop CS2 crashes too often!!!
I run Photoshop CS2 on my Mac Pro 2x2.66Ghz Intel Xeon, 5GB RAM, with Leopard OS X 10.5.2. I keep having problem with Photoshop quitting unexpectedly too often. It's not when doing certain types of task or anything, but just crashes randomly at any point. Sometimes I work fine for hours, and sometimes I can't even last 30min.
I do have CS3 installed, but don't really open it. I use CS2 for now.
I don't understand what might possibly be the problem.
Any ideas?
Thanks."I don't understand what might possibly be the problem."
The problem is you have a version of Photoshop supported under Leopard (CS3) and you are choosing to use one that isn't instead (CS2).
Try working with CS3. Besides the better stability, you should also notice a rather dramatic improvement in speed if you are working with files of any good size.
