Running Photoshop CS3 & CS5 - upgrade questions

Hi all,
So I understand that you can run both photoshop extended CS3 and CS5 on the same system (not at the same time), but I would like to clarify a few things.
My boss purchsed CS3 extended, and we run it on two systems here at work. When he purchased CS3 he called Adobe and they gave him a second CD key to use on the second system. If we purchase the upgrade to Photoshop Extended CS5 (not creative suite), will it
- not remove CS3 when we installed
- work on both systems
- will it require entering the CS3 CD key that each system uses, or will it just use the one already in use on the computer?

At the moment, 1 computer is 64-bit, and 1 is 32-bit. We may upgrade the second to 64-bit soon, which is running the second serial. Is there any way to check what it its? I'm guessing not...
What do you mean "check what it is"?  You're looking to see what the serial number it was activated with is?  Are you saying you've lost that number?
There's a serial number displayed in the Help - System Info dialog, but it's not one and the same as the one used to activate the software.  Adobe themselves may have some transform they can run on that number, I don't know.

  • Running Photoshop CS3 under a non-admin account?

Is it possible to run Photoshop CS3 under a non-admin account with Mac OS 10.4.11? If yes, is it stable then, and are there any known issues?

    Buko and Ann:
Can you support with some documentation please? A quick Google search has many sites recommending to create two accounts. I could fine none (quickly) that stated it might not be necessary. I'm not so much concerned with being right (as it would be somebody else that was wrong) but purely to know that all the articles I have read are also full of sh!t.
I can assure you however that it is not a nuisance to work in a standard account. Certainly any maintenance I do is usually administered through the admin account. It would be a f!cking exasperating not to be able to log in as admin at the end/beginning of the day and manage these tasks on my time. In batch modding files I do find myself typing in passwords I shouldn't have to type, but I batch mod files infrequently and only because our file server is set up with no trust to individual users. I know if I change the setup someone will immediately delete someone else's directory just to teach me not to fiddle.
Rich: I've run CS2 and CS3 (and CS2 & CS3 ;)) in standard accounts with no problems. The only thing I can think of off the top is that Sing system error which was certainly permissions related. I will disclose that my office is relaxed (gov't) and I no longer consider myself a power-user. Though that probably means I am closer now that ever. I click a button and the computer does its thing. No worries.
I'm open to new ideas, and love to learn. I suppose the above is only strongly worded in response...

  • Having problems uninstalling and running Photoshop CS3

I downloaded the trial for Adobe Photoshop CS3 and it has now expired. I tried to uninstall it but it does nothing. It will not come off my computer. If I try to open it, it tells me
The licensing subsystem has failed catastrophically. You must reinstall or call customer support. I tried redownloading and reinstalling it but it still does the same thing and customer support after waiting on hold for 10 minutes for someone to answer, just sent me here.
How do I get rid of this program???
Also now that this is there, I can't run my CS2. It tells me my settings have changed and I need to reactivate but it won't let me reactivate apparently I guess it's been activated too many times (the first computer I had it on crashed and so I had to reinstall it on this computer I am using now) So now because of whatever is wrong with this CS3 I can never again use my CS2. I don't want to repurchase it, what do I do??

In reference to Lynley Stanley, I too am having the exact problem. I downloaded as for my class of Animation and Visual Effects at the Academy of Art University while waiting for my software to come in the mail from Academic Superstore. I am so frustrated about this that such an issue has caused so much madness. In the process of trying to remove Adobe Photoshop CS3 from my Windows Vista I was searching for info on how to uninstall as I was in a hurry to uninstall the program because my 4th week into class started using the program as students are expected to follow along having their own for assignments. Well, now I'm behind and I don't want to fail because of something that is causing the problem as I'd like to call intentional. In the process of trying to figure a way to uninstall fast as not to fall behind and fail in class I downloaded Perfect Uninstaller but I don't know how it will work. Now in reference of trying to quickly uninstall just to keep up with class, that will not be possible, so now I had to take time to look online knowing I'm falling more and more behind because of this difficult matter I finally found this and hopefully I'll be going somewhere as to have the problem corrected. Alright, now I'm going to try with what has been listed. Thank you for the Info. :)

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended upgrade to CS5?

Tried asking the online chat to answer this simple question . . .  the person really didn't understand what I was asking.
So here it goes, the complex question of —
Will a regular CS5 upgrade work for a CS3 Photoshop Extended version or not?

    Mylenium,
It was purchased from a big box store the US (years ago) and has a sticker on it saying "Only for distribution in North America."
It is for use in America, and so is my SC3 Extended version currently installed on my computer.
Both versions are for the Mac OS.
The system requirements are not of importance since my computer meets them all. The upgrade box says nothing about "CS3 or up."
The only mention of an upgrade on the entire box is on the side stating — "UPGRADE from an relier version. To install this upgrade version, you must have an eligible earlier version of this product. Before opening this package, check with your reseller about its return policy and your upgrade eligibility, or visit www.adobe.com/go/upgradeinfo for eligibility information."
So, here I am, trying a webpage that doesn't exist anymore and trying to find answers here . . . . .
Will this normal, regular, run-of-the-mill CS5 Photoshop upgrade work on a CS3 Extended version?
Is Photoshop CS3 Extended an "eligible earlier version of this product" for the CS5 upgrade?

  • Bridge/Photoshop CS3 Web Gallery Question

Hi There, I have a question about the Photoshop cs3 Flash Gallery, particularly the flashobject.js file and index.html file.  Whenever I try and open the finished Flash Gallery HTML page, I get a message that says "Please upgrade your Flash player" and "Already have Flash player installed? Click Here."  Is there a way that I can remove that and just have it go to the Flash Gallery?  I notice that it says Flash Player 6 but that is an old version.  I am not very knowledgeable in javascript so any help would be appreciated.

    Ellen,
I replied to your identical thread in the Bridge forum this morning.

  • Can you run Photoshop CS3 and CS5 on the same system?

I did this before on another system where I had both CS2 and CS3 installed and I could run either version when I wanted.  Back then I just never bothered to uninstall CS2.
Now on this system I'm tunning CS3 and I have some plug ins I use regularly that aren't compatible with CS5 and I don't want to lay out the cash again for them.  So I'd like to be able to install CS5 and use it primarily but when I need to use the plug ins then just switch to CS3.
I've noticed many programs these days won't run on top of another version.  So is there any reason I won't be able to run both?

Absolutely.  All versions of Photoshop can coexist simultaneously, though you can only run one at a time.
It's usual not to install the old version until you're sure the new one is working great.  If you have the space, never uninstall it.  It's handy to have it around for answering questions, here for example.

  • Photoshop cs3 extended upgrade to cs4 (non extended)?

First of all, is it possible for me to upgrade my cs3 extended version of photoshop to cs4? I have other programs from adobe on here such as dreamweaver, indesign and illustrator, so do I have to upgrade the whole suite or can I just upgrade the one program that I actually use? And lastly, I bought my computer from a friend who already installed all the programs on it so I don't know whether or not it is registered. Would this be a problem when it comes down to actually installing an upgrade?
Sorry, I'm just getting into all of this so I really don't know anything about the adobe products on my computer. Thanks in advance to all who can help me

okay update... I am speaking to a customer service rep to get the special unlock code that everyone is talking about and he is saying that it is not possible to upgrade just one product within a suite. How is everyone else doing it?

  • Uninstall Photoshop CS3 after Upgrading to CS4?

I am a late up-grader to Photoshop CS4 (new camera) and I would like to reclaim the gigabyte of space occupied by CS3 and associated files. Is it safe to simply use the uninstaller for CS3? Thanks for the help!
    Jeff

I just did exactly, that.  I installed Photoshop CS4, actually, the entire CS4 master Suite.  Then a few weeks after having used CS4 without any glitches I went through and deleted anything related to CS3 in all the various preferences and Application Support folders and it has been working great since.
I did have some droplets, plug-ins and other items from CS3 that I still needed to use in CS4 so I moved them from the old CS3 folder to the corresponding new CS4 folder. Everything worker very easily and without any problems whatsoever..
I think it would be very safe to use the uninstaller for CS3.  However, be aware that if you have an upgrade version of CS4, it will upgrade the existing CS3 and will not be able to do so if it is uninstalled.  I was working with a new full version so that was not an issue.  Sometimes you can simply put in the old CS3 serial number in order to verify ownership and sometimes you need the actual app on the HD for the upgrade.  It would be advisable to check with Adobe on this.  Or just install CS4 and then after it is verified as working, go through and delete all CS3 related files as I did.

  • CS5 Upgrade question

Can I use my CS4 for Windows as a base for an upgrade to CS5 and switch it to a Mac version?

    Thanks Bob ..
I spoke to one of the sales agents and they didn't mention having to remove or destroy the
old copy - in fact they said that some people keep CS3/CS4/CS5 installed so they can go back to old projects.
I'm hoping this is true, because to upgrade from the single product we own on windows and keep the MAC CS4 versionuseable doubles the upgrade cost and makes it too pricey.. I wonder if Adobe would rather sell a £500 upgrade licence than none at all ?

  • CS2, CS3 & CS4 upgrade questions

Is it possible to have both CS2 and CS3 installed and functional on the same Windows machine at the same time? Same question with CS3 and CS4 and, if it can be done, are there any known issues that result?
I need to migrate our graphics station to the newer CS3 (and eventually CS4 ... probably around the time CS10 is released), but I can't afford to lose access to projects during the much slower than normal process of getting the newer version fully ready to go (i.e., all plugins and the many custom files they use within my projects accessible by the newer version). Sorry for the 101 question ... I work in corporate video now and our facilities are way behind the curve so I have now become that way too.

As Navarro said: Should be no problem. Be aware, though, that several of the "Edit original" and "Open in Bridge" type functions will always resort to the most modern version and these functions thus will not work fully in older versions. If e.g. you chose to "Browse Presets" in AE CS3 with CS4 already on your system, it would open Bridge CS4 and you would be able to view the presets, but could not apply them with a double-click as you would otherwise. Also expect some confusion when working with MPEG stuff. You may get warnings about missing CoDecs in Encore and Premiere or weird licensing warnings ("not included in trial version" and such...)

  • CS4 to CS5 Upgrade Question

I bought a boxed version of Adobe Production Premium CS4 (new) through eBay (their Buy it Now thing) about 3 days before CS5 was released.
I'd like to take advantage of the free upgrade to Production Premium CS5, but I wasn't sure if the free upgrade is only for people who purchased the suite directly from Adobe or any purchase of the suite new from other vendors… ?
Also, if I can do the free upgrade, what do I need to provide Adobe to make it happen?
    Thanks,
    Michael

You can purchase through other vendors but they have to be authorized resellers.  http://bit.ly/9xYI9p  So I'm not sure if that would qualify in this case.
You do have to go through Adobe to get the upgrade.  Your best bet is to contact Adobe Customer Service directly via email, phone, or chat, and ask them about your situation.
We did an extensive post about this if you need more info.

  • Photoshop cs 6 upgrade questions

What will happen when I download and want to install photoshop cc ?
I presently have cs6 installed with a ton of plugins and want to continue to use them.
Will it belie older versions where you have both installed or will you be able to just overwrite the old and everything will work?
I'm using Mac version running Mtn lion
    Thanks
    Tom

What you can do is install the CC versions and point to the plugins folder for the CS6 versions. That way you don't have to reinstall the plugins.

  • Photoshop CS3 A few questions (using Windows

I've just got a job in that requires file names including a full stop
(8.6 for instance). This was never a problem with my old version of Adobe but now, if I save a file like this it then becomes unrecognisable to Adobe when I want to re-open it. Yeeeeeek this is not good.
Second question actually applies to any version of Adobe I've sampled
after my lovely 5.5. When you use CTRL T to free transform, for
instance, you get the litte tabs appear that you can click and drag
for manipulation. In 5.5 the tabs would appear at the edge of the
file window even if the actual size of the layer was way bigger than
this window. Now they appear around the layer rather than the window
so, as the layer is usually a lot bigger, I have to keep zooming out
of the file just so it becomes small enough within it's window for me
to be able to see and use these tabs. I hope that makes sense -
rather hard to describe. This is driving me mad and I'm wondering if
there is a setting I can use to change this.
Any ideas would be brilliant. Jo

Thanks for replying - no it didn't crop it to canvas size. For the sort of illustration I do I'm always selecting some scanned arwork from a sheet I've inked and scanned then dropping into a file. File often a lot smaller than the drawn image as I draw at a larger scale. I then press CTRL T to free transform and regardless of the size of the layer that I'd layed on top of the initial canvas, the tabs used to appear around the outside of the canvas rather than the layer. The tabs then could be used to drag the layer smaller same as they do in CS3. CS3 is making me have to enlarge the window the files in or zoom right out of the file to make it tiny just so I can get to see the tabs that are way outside of the canvas because they show up around the outside of the layer size. really hard to describe - probably just bored you and still not explained myself.
