Running Photoshop Elements (1) on Windows 8

I'm sure folks by now know that older Photoshop Elements doesn't install on Windows 8.  (I think it's version 1, as no version is given on the package, and I bought it a long time ago from the Adobe store via a friend at Adobe who is not  longer around.)  The installer tells me that it needs at least Internet Explorer 4.  Although I installed a clean copy of Windows 8 64, I still have Windows 7 32 installed, with the original Elements in Program Files.  If I run the old executable, it tells me it can't find the personal information, or something.
My question is:  Are there registry keys and/or files I could copy over to my Windows 8 installation that would let me run my old Photoshop Elements?
I tried copying just the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\Photoshop Elements\1.0 registry key, but that didn't work.
Basically, I don't really want to buy the software again, as I'm just a light user, and I was perfectly happy with the old version, which cost me about the same as the 11 upgrade.
Thanks.

Okay, now that you got the recommendation for a new product out of the way, please continue with your original thought: Before we go into how you might get pse1 to work on windows 8
I'm in the same boat. New computer, Win8, trying to get PSE1 to install.  My hard drive is 320GB. Every time I try to install, an error message tells me I need IE4.0 or newer. I tried changing compatibility to all the other available (older) options, but still get the same error.
So I'm interested in the secret magic trick to make this happen!
Thanks.

  • Can I run Photoshop Elements 11 on Windows and Mac OS?

I have photoshop elements 11 for windows, but I want to buy an Imac. Is it possibel to get a free version for the Imac?

Photoshop Elements comes in both versions for the same license.  So you just need to acquire the Mac version and install using your serial number to activate it.  You can download the trial version of the software thru the page linked below.
Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the Note: Very Important Instructions section on the download pages at this site or else the download will not work properly.

    12GB PC3- PC3-10600 DDR3-1333 SDRAM memory 3x4GB
and tried to install Photoshop Elements 2.0 on it. I have not installed other programs or files on it, it has 2T empty harddrive. The program installed fine, but wont launch because "scratch disks are full." In order to reasign the scratch diks I need to go through the preferences, but I cannot do so as the program wont open. A bit of a catch 22. Any solutions? Or is PE 2.0 not compatible with the new coputers? Than you for your help!

Tevis11 HP would be the people who can give you the best advice on your computer configuration. That being said I believe your easiest, and less technical solution, would be to obtain Photoshop Elements 10.  Photoshop Elements 2 was released in 2002 and may not function on Windows 7 which was released in 2009.
If you wish to try Photoshop Elements 10 you can locate it at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/tdrc/index.cfm?product=photoshop_elements&loc=en_us.

  • Transfer from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on the Mac.

I want to transfer from Adobe Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP to Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 on the Mac. My problem is I have lost my catalog and Windows XP.  I need help.
I have installed the newest Mac version of Adobe Photoshop Elements 12 (PSE 12 Mac) and it seems to work fine but I have not been able to access my old (XP, PSE6) catalog file.
I am working on a MacBook Air running OSX version 10.9.2.  I have been using Parallels Desktop 9 Switch-to-Mac-Edition™ to run Windows virtual machines.  I had been working for over a year running Photoshop Elements 6 on Windows XP virtual machine.  The XP operating system was updated to 2/28/14.
When I installed Windows 8, the Parallels program initially offered me a choice of virtual machines, Window XP or Windows 8.  I could use the XP version to work with Photoshop Elements 6 as before and thought I could be leisurely about transferring my Photoshop operations to the Mac side.
However, without my knowingly doing anything to dispose of Windows XP, I have “lost” Windows XP.  Perhaps it occurred when I updated to Windows 8.1.  At any rate, now I have access only to Windows 8.1.
To compound the problem the Time Machine backup program for the Mac was not backing up the XP virtual machine files as I had thought.   I have since corrected the settings but I do not have a copy of Windows XP nor of the Adobe Photoshop Elements catalog which I used in the past.
Moreover, I do not have a workable Windows XP disk; the only one I could find is from Dell and it does not load on my MacBook Air.  I see Windows XP disks offered by Amazon for about $30 and have thought about buying a copy to help see if I could  accomplish the transfer of the catalog file to my Mac.  I would use XP only to accomplish this transfer.
I am not completely confident that reinstalling Windows XP would actually enable me to do the transfer and I can foresee potential big problems. Therefore, before taking that step I thought that I would check with you to see if there is a way to find the catalog file and perhaps to modify it so that I could work in the Mac Environment.
I have used Elements to improve and organize over a thousand travel and family photos taken with a pocket size digital camera.  Being a nonprofessional, I have edited mainly by cropping and using Quick Fix but have many hours invested.  Yes,  I still have the originals and probably could have redone much of that work with the time I have invested in trying to find the missing XP and catalog.
I have found two large HDS files (Windows XP.hdd and Windows XP (2).hdd) that were created 7/15/12.  I suspect they may be important but am not sure what they are.   I read that HDS files are commonly Windows media digital rights management files, DRMs.   HDS files may also be used by hierarchical data systems.  Do the names suggest anything about Photoshop?
Can you help me find the catalog and transfer it for use with the Mac Adobe Photoshop Elements 12?

Let's create a shortcut for Editor on the desktop, by-passing the welcome screen:
    Go to C drive>Program Files (x86)>Adobe>Photoshop Elements 8
Right click on that, >>Send to desktop (create shortcut)
Double click on the shortcut. Does Editor open now?

Any article that says you can't run a program in Windows 7 that ran perfectly well in Windows XP or Windows Vista is suspect in it self and should be tossed out of your open window quickly.
Windows 7 is not any different from XP or Vista except that security is much better and the GUI is better but is all XP and Vista behind the hood.  I am running some DOS programs in Windows 7!!! Now this must be magic!!

  • Photoshop Elements 13 on Windows 8.1, window freezes on startup

I bought Photoshop & Premiere Elements a few weeks ago to run on a new Windows 8.1 computer.  I entered the serial numbers of both programs during installation.  Premiere has been working all along.  Photoshop worked for a few days, then the window started freezing.  I have to kill it with Task Manager.  I followed the trouble shooting guide and did things like reinstalling, running in different accounts and so on.  I even reinstalled a Windows backup onto a different hard drive and did a fresh install of Photoshop and Premiere.  All the reinstalled versions of Photoshop have frozen as soon as I tried them, and Premiere has always worked.  I've also tried disabling my firewall before starting up Photoshop, and that didn't make any difference either.
I've had two Chat sessions with support and they've had remote access to my machines.  They've tried a few things like changing permissions on some files and asking me to reinstall yet again, but basically they haven't accomplished anything.
I've notice that when the Window is unresponsive, Task Manger shows that Photoshop is using a small amount of CPU.
In order to get some idea what might be going on, I've tried running Microsoft Sysinternals Process Monitor while the Window is frozen.  It appears that the Photoshop Editor process is in a loop that runs 3 or 4 times a second and makes about 13 system calls.  The stack tracebacks all include entry points in AMTValidateProductLicense in amtlib.dll.
I can't imagine why it's doing the same thing over and over instead of telling me what it's unhappy about so I can try to make it happy.  Most places I've worked would regard this sort of behavior as a bug.
I hope this is enough information for someone at Adobe to figure out what's going on.  I have a saved procmon log with all the details that's about 800K bytes.  I could send it to Adobe if it would be any help to you.
One more detail:  At the time things stopped working, I was having some problems with sharing printers & scanners that was causing anything that tried to access a printer to freeze, so I had to exit unceremoniously from several programs including Photoshop a few times.
I'm working with a new DVD purchased from Amazon for this computer.  It's been reinstalled several times on two different hard drives, but always in the same computer.
If you're unable to fix this, I'll be returning it to Amazon for a refund.  I could write my own program to open a window and then freeze if I wanted one.

I've got things working now.  The process I followed was:
    1. Reboot in safe mode
    2. Run Photoshop elements.  It worked in safe mode.
    3. Unplug the network cable
    4. Restart in normal mode
    5. Run Photoshop elements.  It worked with the cable unplugged.
    6. Exit out of Photoshop
    7. Plug in the network cable
    8. Now Photoshop seems to start up normally.
It seemed to me that the problem had something to do with license validation.  In safe mode there's no network connection, which might disrupt validation.  When I left out steps 3, 4 and 5, it still didn't work.  After doing that once, it seems to work.  If it stops working, I'll post another reply here.
    YMMV.

  • Missing Camera Raw Dialog Box in Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows.

    Hello,
I have Photoshop Elements 8 for Windows. This runs on a 32-bit Windows Vista VirtualBox virtual machine.
It has been running fine, but suddenly opening raw Nikon images no longer opens the Camera Raw Dialog box, but takes me straight into editing on Photoshop Elements.
I really like having the Camera Raw Dialog box open as I do most of my image processing using this before opening the resulting file in Elements.
Does anyone know how to get this box back, or to open it from within Elements?
I have tried opening the images from within Photoshop Elements using the "Open As..." mnu item from the File menu, and the selecting "Camera Raw" as the image type, but it still opens without the Camera Raw Dialog box.
    Thanks very much.

Check your screen resolution settings for vista.
I believe the screen resolution needs to be at least 1024 x 768 for the camera raw dialog to show in pse 8.
For example, if instead of running VirtualBox full screen, your running it in windowed or seamless mode and made the window smaller by dragging on the corner, that would automatically lessen the screen resolution in vista.

  • Photoshop Elements 8 and Windows 8

  • Photoshop Elements 7 and Windows 7

I am currently running Photoshop Elements 7 on a Dell machine with Vista 64.  When I bought the computer, Dell offered a free upgrade to Windows 7 which I have ordered.  If I install the upgrade to Windows 7, will my Photoshop Elements 7 run without major problems?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I just accomplished this without any real problems and am now running with my same license on the newly rebuilt PC.  Here is what I did ...
Originally my PSE7 configuration was set up last year on new Intel I7-based PC running Vista 64 bit version with a retail copy of the PSE7 software, i.e. not the upgrade version.  Once that was setup I imported my catalog from the older Adobe Photoshop Album on my previous system.  That put me at the place you are now, i.e. PSE7 on Windows Vista.
For this upgrade I puchased the upgrade version of Windows 7 and an additional second disk drive.  I installed Windows 7 onto the clean drive, giving me a dual-boot system for either OS.  While booted on the Vista drive, I used the easy-transfer method to write a backup of my Vista files to an external disk drive.  I then rebooted into the Windows 7 drive and used the Easy-transfer tool to reload the files from the external drive. (note; this easy-transfer included >200GB of music/video/image files so it ran for several hours for each phase of the transfer)
Once I verified the directory structure on the new Windows 7 setup, only then did I do the installation of PSE7.  That wnet flawlessly and relicensed without any problems.  Next I was able to open up my catalog in organizer and all of the images were intact.  Since then I have had no issues with the configuration.
So bottom line is you should be fine doing the upgrade regardless of whether you do the upgrade like I did to a new drive or an in-place upgrade overlaying your vista environment.  For the in-place upgrade I would strongly recommend you still do a backup of all of your images and their associated catalog(s) to an external drive.  Win7 is a vast improvement over Vista so I'm sure you won't regret the upgrade but I don't trust any vendor's software upgrade procedure, especially Microsoft so please do the backup first.

  • Help! 2006 imac need Mountain Lion to run Photoshop elements

Hi, getting very frustrated : (
Have a 2006 Imac Intel; upgraded to snow leopard last year; now wanted to run Photoshop elements. Imac says NO. We needed Mountain Lion- ordered this online, computer says NO. Need more memory. So have bought and installed new memory (2gb + 1gb). Computer still says no, wont download Mountain Lion.
I just want to use elements!!
Any help appreciated, I'm not that computer savvy
    Thanks : D

The new version PSE will run on OS X 10.7 Lion.
    PSE 12 runs on 10.7- 10.9
Here are the system requirements for OS X 10.7 Lion.
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended); you can install without Mac OS X v10.6 by using an OS X Lion USB Thumb Drive, available on the Apple Online Store
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
To find out info about your system
Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears. Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
Click on the button that says More Info. A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply. This will tell us everything about your iMac so we may begin to help with your iMac issues.
If your 2006 iMac can run Lion then you can purchase a Lion install code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
Before installing a major systems upgrade, it would be prudent to have a viable backup of your current system and important data in case something should go wrong with the installation.
    Good Luck!

  • Computer for Running Photoshop Elements 11

Here are the specs for a laptop I'm going to be buying. Please let me know whether it's enough to smoothly run Photoshop Elements 11, 64-bit at a fast yet consumer-level pace. I don't want it to be slow, but I do not need excess power either.
    Here are the specs:
Processor = Intel Core i5-3230M Processor (3.20GHz, 3MB Cache, 1600MHz) with Intel HD Graphics 4000
Graphics = Intel HM77 - Intel HD 4000 Integrated Graphics (WWAN or mSATA capable)
    Memory = 4GB PC3-12800 DDR3L SDRAM 1600MHz SODIMM
Hard Drive = 500GB Hard Disk Drive, 7200rpm
Operating System = Windows 7 Home Premium, 64-bit

Your system info seems to  meets all the minimum system requirement for PSE 11 . See this

I tried to install Photoshop elements 8 on my Windows 7 computer, but the installation gives a failure after a certain time. A file "...cab" is not working and may be corrupt ( exact failure code I can give, if necesary). Is there any possibility to get this file or the program Photoshop Elements 8 as download file so that I can complete the installation? Thank you in advance for your answers.

    Hello,
I just got the same problem already some time ago when I tried to install this programm in my computer. At that time (March 2012) the program crashed my computer, I had to reinstall all the Software completely including system software. The program I purchased in December 2011 from Amazon together with a Reflecta crystal Scan slide scanner as bundle, so I thought it will work.
I will try to install the program from the download link you gave me, in case it does not work, what can I do next without having to buy a newer version?
