Running Preflight in VBA

I am trying to use preflight to strip the PDF/A tag from documents I'm working with using VBA. I have scoured the SDK documentation that I have and have not been able to find anything of substance to help me successfully call preflight. Is anyone able to provide a working example of script that calls preflight and saves a document without user intervention? If this is truly in the SDK, please provide the specific reference to the specific document (links preferred) that tells me how to do this. I am using Acrobat Pro 9.5.2.

Install of Flash 10 failing - "run preflight script" - Mac OS X 10.5.6

I tried to install Flash 10 - and it asks me to close the "Dashboard Client" of Mac OS X and after I click close on the flash install window, the installation fails. A message says that the failure occurs during "run preflight script" and to contact the software developer.
Has anyone else had this problem? Any fixes or way around it?!

Got the problem as well, a little bit frustrating, i have the problem with BOTH flash 10 and photoshop elements 3 why isn't adobe willing to help us? I think this is quite dissapointing when you take into account the software costs ±$100 I also have Mac OSX 10.5.7

Install Failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script

I'm trying to reinstall Photoshop CS2 on an intel iMac, OS 10.5.5. I ran the install program, after a few seconds I get the following error message:   "Install Failed: The following install step failed: run preflight script for Adobe Photoshop CS2. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance." (I did contact adobe, but they no longer support CS2) Originally, I had installed PS CS2 when I was using OS 10.4.X, then I upgraded to 10.5.x. PS CS2 was working fine on my system. Then I accidentally deleted the program, now I'm having trouble reinstalling. I'd appreciate any help that you can give me.

I encountered the exact same problem - I had upgraded to CS2 from a previous version of Photoshop, back
when I was using OSX 10.3.9. Later, I upgraded my OS from 10.3.9, to Leopard (10.5.8.)
CS2 always ran flawlessly, through all those systems.
Then I had occasion to reformat my HD and reinstall Leopard 10.5.8.
That's when the CS2 installer failed, with the same message mentioned above.
When I called in, they basically said, buzz off....we won't help you.
First, this shows that their software is flawed.
They managed to allow this problem to occur due to inept programming.
Now they are either incapable, or unwilling, to write a programming fix for this problem.
It reeks olf ineptitude, plus colossal, inexcusable arrogance and disrespect for their customer base.
Just my humble opinion of course...and I've been a Photoshop user since 1990.

Acrobat pro DC crashes when running preflight (digital printing, colors)

Regrettably, I have not been able to reproduce this problem on my MacOS 10.9.5 with any of my sample PDF files.
Some additional questions:
(1) Does this happen with any and all PDF files you attempt to apply this Preflight profile to?
(2) Are you simply checking or fixing using the profile?
(3) Does Acrobat crash when using other, similar profiles? If so, which do crash and which don't?
(4) Are you using the English version of Acrobat or some other language version?
(5) Do you have any plug-ins installed?
Let me know the answers to these questions and we will try to proceed from there.

Are you sure that you have the Mac version, as there is a Windows version, as well as a few game console versions.
Sounds as though that may be a Windows or other version.

Error installing iLife 09 - "run preflight script for Registration"

Hi,
I am trying to install iLife 09 and am getting the error above (run preflight script for registration) and cant figure out how to fix it. I have run a permissions repair, rebooted and it just doesnt want to let me install. My Install.app is present in /System/Library/CoreServices/Installer.app and have installed all the latest updates for 10.5
Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem. I cannot instal Ilife on my new Imac.
I first tried to install all programs together via the installation guide. but it kept crashing without any reason.
after that I tried to install each program seperately via the customized installation guide but again the installation guide crashed.
for each program the following messages appeared:
run preflight script for iphoto, Imovie etc.
So what can I do about this. The warning message said I had to contact the manufacturer.

ILife '09 installation problems; run preflight script error

Hi, not sure where else to put this topic so I figured this would be the best place. The iLife section has forums for individual applications and not the entire thing.
I'd like to point out that I had iLife '08 installed and working but I uninstalled it before I proceeded with the '09 installation since I wanted to start clean. I also installed iWork '09 successfully.
When I try installing iLife '09 however, I get a an error stating "The following install setup failed: run preflight script for registration. contact the software manufacturer for assistance.". I have tried to repair disk permissions through Disk Utility and then reboot, but still get the same error. I have also tried using some of Onyx's "cleaning" utilities, but it doesn't help either.
I also get the same "run preflight script" error when I try installing the latest Quicktime update through Apple Software Update application.
Not sure any of these are related but I'm out of ideas. Is anyone else getting anything similar or know how to fix any of this?

Just a guess, but do you have a retail disk of iLife '09 or an upgrade that came as a supplement to your new Mac? If the latter, you should have the iLife '08 applications installed in their default locations (where they were located when you first started up the new Mac) because it is highly unlikely that an upgrade disk can upgrade what is not there.
If this is your problem, you may not have to reinstall the entire OS. Instead, first try looking for an "Install Bundled Software" app (or something with a similar name) on your new Mac's system disk 1. This may allow you to reinstall the original iLife apps without having to reinstall the OS. If so, the upgrade disk should work once they are back in place.

Software Install Error: failed run: preflight script

I'm trying to install new software (the software instrument Trillian by Spectrasonics) but every attempt results in the error message:
"The following installation step failed: run preflight script for Trillian Disc 1 Core Library.
Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
I've tried everything I can think of with no result. I'm a Mac user of 18 years and can generally get myself out of the usual issues etc but I've never seen an error like this before and after trying the obvious have no idea where to start.
There's nothing on the software manufacturer's support site about this and apparently my tech support call will be answered "within three business days .
Any pointers much appreciated.
(I've tried various drives, rebooted various times, done the permissions thing etc)

Thanks for the responses but the software is very much compatible with 10.6 (and is moving to 64bit this month).
Spectrasonics are rather slow to respond ("three business days" for a response to my call apparently !) and I can't find any solution in their support documents online.
The good news is that I discovered a workaround by logging out of my account and logging in as another user, it installed just fine that way, though it took a while to change permissions for my account.
The bad news that it's something in my user account, but I have no idea at what level.
Whatever it is is still there and I don't know what other effect it's having on my setup and and I can't find any fix or pointers about it anywhere, although I have found numerous references to users having the same problem trying to install software in OS X as a whole (not just 10.6).

Run preflight script fails

A client with a MacBook (10.5.8) is trying to install software updates but all of them get failures whether they are run together or separately. The laptop has been running just fine for months, and installing updates regularly. No new software has been installed since the last update.
The failures are with:
HP Printer Drivers Update (1.1.1)
AirPort Base Station Update (5.5.1)
Quicktime (7.6.6)
Safari (4.0.5)
iTunes (9.1.1)
Security Update 2010-003 (1.0)
All six updates have been run individually with the same error. The full error message looks like this:
"None of the checked updates could be installed.
The following stall step failed: run preflight script for Airport Utility. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance."
Anyone have any ideas what to do?

And since I buy my iphone I can't syncronize with my mac because I can´t install i tunes 9.2

Getting an error when running Preflight to embed fonts in Acrobat Pro version 9

I am running Acrobat Pro version 9.4.5 and when I am running a pre-flight for embedding fonts in my document I am getting an error message as follow: "
An unexpected error has occurred during the Fixup process ".
This is occuring at the font processing time. Anybody encountered the same issue.
One detail which has it importance, I am using TTF fonts and some specific Adobe fonts which are located in the Resource\font directory of my workstation.

Check all your fonts have headers that permit embedding - some commercial fonts don't. Debugging in Preflight is a nightmare, so to find the problem you may have to try the fonts one at a time against a test document until you find the one that whimpers.

Running a Excel VBA Addin from Applescript

Hi,
I have created a VBA script in Excel 2011. I want this scripot to be availbale to any workbook I open up in Excel so I have set the script as an Add-in. Then I want to be abke to run this script from Applescript. The final plan is to have an automater workflow which allows me to drag and drop an excel file onto it which will open the file, run the script I have told it to run and save the file again.
I think it is a referencing issue I have, I'm using the "run VB macro" command but I am getting the referencing wrong somewhere along the line. If anyone can help or point me in the direction of some good documentation it would be really helpful.

the problem is that you keep trying to open the workbook when it is already open. in the attached code you will that I search to see if the workbook is open. If it is then I set it to be the active workbook and run the macro. If not then i open it and then run the macro.
try the attached code and see if it works for you. You will hace to make sure that all the references are closed and that the comparison functionality works for you. I just kinda hacked this together as a proof of concept for you.

Problem trying to run 32 bit VBA program on a 64 bit machine

I am a new programmer using VBA in Excel. I have used code that refers to a kernel32 in the VBA code. This code fails on a 64 bit machine. Runs perfectly fine on 32 bit machine. Is there code I can add that will allow the program to run on both systems?
The code is being used to determine the UTC time of a cell from a report.

Droplet does not run preflight if Acrobat XI is not already running

I created a droplet in order to automatize a simple preflight.
If Acrobat XI is running, when I drag'n'drop a file on it, the preflight is launched. But if I close Acrobat and drag'n'drop the same file (or another file), Acrobat open but nothing happen.
Am I missing something ?
Edit : perhaps I should had that it happen with differents droplet and on differents computer, and that my environnement is Windows 7. Acrobat is also up to date.

Sorry for reviving this thread but please advise if you have resolved this. We're also experiencing this kind of behavior (Acrobat Pro XI and Windows XP)
If Acrobat is not yet opened and we executed the droplet, Acrobat opens and loads but the preflight action is not executed (we waited for a long time thinking Acrobat is still warming up but nothing really happens), we tried executing preflight droplet again (with the opened faulty Acrobat) and still does nothing. We needed to close Acrobat and reopen manually before we execute the preflight droplet for it to work again. Can anyone from Adobe check if this is a known issue?

Cannot install TWAIN driver - run preflight failed

I am a Windoze refugee who is helping my father clean up his messy iMac.
He has a Brother DCP-165C printer which he cannot use to scan.
Mac OS X 10.5.8 is up to date, I have recently run the verify disk utility and fix file permissions (as part of my efforts to fix this problem).
I have seen and followed a number of posts in my attemps to fix it and can summarise my efforts as follows:
De-installed all Brother drivers as per their instructions for OS X 10.5.8 on their supprt website.
The Brother printer driver package installs fine so in repeated attempts I have used various postings to de-install them, they all follow the same theme, but this one appeared a bit more comprehensive https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1881546?start=0&tstart=0
I have created a new user (with admin privs) and tried using that to install since I read that files in the users home can interfere with an installation - no joy.
So I finally took the plunge and extracted the preflight script out of the package and ran it in terminal. It's a perl script which gives the following error:

Now that sounds pretty terminal, but, the secret I haven't let you in on is that I installed the TWAIN package fine last week. I don't know why (or am even certain if) it stopped working, but we had some problems with the printer.
So my conclusion is that I should be able to get this missing perl component, but perl is something I know nothing about.

Once again thank you BDAqua for keeping me pointed in the right direction.
After some serious research:
@INC array is set when perl is compiled, it is actually built into the perl binary when you run Configure before compiling..
So it cannot be changed without re-compilation. Likewise, it cannot be broken without re-compiling
/System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.8 is not actually in the @INC array, Apple use none of the accepted methods (or so I believe) of adding it, they have a file in /Library/perl/5.8.8 named AppendToPath which contains:
               /System/Library/Perl/Extras/5.8.8
                /Library/Perl/5.8.6
                /Library/Perl/5.8.1
The references to previous versions are there for backward compatibility.
It is also poosible to create a PrependToPath file. As you would expect PrependToPath adds directory(s) to the beginning of the search, and AppendToPath to the end.
You can list the contents of @INC with this command:
perl -e 'print join "\n",@INC'
All I did was run Pacifist to verify the directory /Library/perl/5.8.8 and it reported only 5 files found out of 50, so I just asked it to install the directory structure. That was it, fixed, the TWAIN drivers installed.

Error "Run Preflight Script for Omnisphere" on the installation

Good afternoon, I just bought a MacBook Pro with Mountain Lion and am installing all VST plugins used before in PC, all I could until I was presented Spectrasonics Omnisphere (the VST is the most use and need) should be added I could also install Spectrasonics Trilian is also and installed in the same folder.
The problem I have is that when I try to install the DVD 1 of Omnisphere throws me the following error:
What I did was go to the Spectrasonics support and get this: http://www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase_view_topic.php?id=265&categor yID=7 says that this error occurs when the folder in which you installed characters strangers or double spaces, also recommended that you try to install in another folder. I did all that and still keeps coming out that mistake.
I hope you can help me with that because unfortunately ruined my whole day :/

Got a fix for this (was vexing me considerably and ALMOST gave up..). I discovered that the Iso's (Sample DVDs 1-5) were not actually fully 'mounting'. via the normal kick start mpkg's...
FIX:
Instead, after unzipping the ISOS, drag and drop all 5 into the left hand column of DISK UTILITY and open them from there (click and initialise install process as before with .mpkg), hey presto.. no frikkin' Pre flight error and the install is finally working!
I cannot believe Spectrasonics Support were not aware of this error!
I'm on MBP/ OSX Yosemite BTW.
