Running primarily Windows 7 on MacBook Pro

I'm not looking to have Windows, and only Windows, installed on my laptop. I'm just curious as to how many of you use Boot Camp to get Windows installed -- and then use Windows on your MB / MBP 99% of the time.
Love the MBP's design, trackpad, and battery life, but I really like Windows 7. I'm on a 15" MBP from June of last year, so the hardware is still decent. I am aware that I'll lose a couple hours of battery life, and that Boot Camp 3.1 isn't perfect (but is still pretty good, and much improved over v3.0).
So does anyone ever make a baby partition for OS X and then devote 90% of the hard drive to Windows?

You can use 100%, no need to have Mac OS at all, and that way Windows 7 can do a better job taking over the whole thing.
And less trouble.
You can always boot OS X from another external drive when or if need.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp Assistant gives problems downloading the Windows support software. Fortunately, the Windows support software is available in the Apple site, so you can download it from the Apple website.
If you want to install a 64-bit Windows 7 version, download > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 If you want to install a 32-bit edition, download these drivers > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1635

What is the best way to run Sage on a MacBook Pro?  I am a first time Apple user.

There's a lot of Sage out thete so fill us in with information. If it runs on Windows then you'll need to create a partition on your mbp using boot camp and install Windows. So what is Sage for you?

  • Will Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Run Successfully on a MacBook Pro running Version 10.9.3 Operating Software ?

Will Adobe Photoshop Elements 9 Run Successfully on a MacBook Pro running Version 10.9.3 Operating Software ?

Sorry it took me a while to come back. Anyway, I cleared out the old Xcode files and went into the Developers Download area and selected to download 4.6.3 and was presented with this window
I clicked on Savefile and it downloaded. I was intrigued as to why this would work as it was exactly what I had done before. Out of interest I decided to issue the download again and this time it created a zero byte disk image and a "part" file of 1.6mB. I shall just have to put that behind me (accepting that I don't understand why one download should work and all the precious attempts should fail) and move on.
Thank you for your help (it was my eyesight that caused me to think my OS version was 10.7.9 - it is indeed 10.7.5)

  • Windows on macbook pro & oarallels

has anyone else had a problem with windows running slower on a macbook pro than it did on a macbook? It seems to run slower. Then occasionally when I shut down windows it tries to automatically force quit a program running in the back ground. Ultimately it says it is not responding then I have to force quit it and re click the button to shut down. I can't remember of the name of the program that has a hard time shutting down because it doesn't happen all the time. Has anyone else had ta similar problem? Has anyone had good luck with parallells? Does it seem to run faster than using bootcamp?

Forgot to mention about the Window quitting problem you are experiencing.
Windows does that sometimes, I've used a dozen of notebook (come to think of it, I spent too much money on computer stuff). and quite a few desktop before. Win 2000 and Win XP all have this type of problem.
It is my feeling that this is a problem with the type of software you install in Windows. Especially if you are in the habit of trying new software all the time.
Window has a default timeout setting that governs when the message will pop up telling user that application cannot be quit.
It is important to find out which application is causing the problem (CTRL-ALT-DEL then select task manager) and try to isolate the problematic application.

  • HT5628 Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS

Is it possible to install MS-Windows on MacBook Pro as the only OS, using all the space of the SSD, by de-isntalling thus completely the Mac OS?

    Yes.
    but
You will have to erase the drive completely and install Windows, you can't achieve it just by deleting OSX
I do not recommend that you do it.

Don't worry I've sorted it! I just had to turn off Reminders as well in iCloud. Calendar then worked fine, even when I turned Calendar and Reminders back on.

Hi, i'm Architec and my basic programs are: Autodesk Architecture and 3D studio Max. Can i run it in the MacBook Pro 13.3-Inch  (NEWEST VERSION) Thanks!!!

You can but make sure you upgrade your RAM to 16GB - you can't do that through Apple...
Autodesk is a memory intensive program and the same goes with 3D Studio Max.....
Another suggeston if you must use a 13 inch is to buy the base 13 inch Macbook Pro and upgrade the RAM to 16GB and install a SSD to make it perform fast.
Another option is to get a refurbished 15 Inch Macbook Pro and do the RAM upgrade yourself...Advantage going 15 Inch is because it has it's own discrete graphics adapter rather than the built in Intel video.

  • I have installed Creative Cloud Desktop but it fails to load. The icon shows up in the bar at the top right but then it just disappears. I am running Yosemite on a MacBook Pro.

I downloaded and installed Creative Cloud Installer and installed the Creative Cloud desktop on my MacBook Pro running Yosemite. The Creative Cloud desktop tries to install when the system starts and the icon actually shows in the top bar briefly and then disappears shortly after it shows up so it is obviously failing to load. I have tried multiple times to no avail.

do you mean in my system library? or where can I find it?

  • Can i run snow leopard on macbook pro puchased new in 2009?

Can I run snow leopard on macbook pro purchased new in 2009?

The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available at this time from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list. The App Store which is required to download 10.7 Lion or 10.8 Mountain Lion is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If you wait to long and they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already over $100 on Amazon.

  • How well will Mountain Lion run on the following MacBook Pro?

Thinking about biting the bullet and upgrading to Mountain Lion on my MacBook Pro. My specs are as follows:
    MacBook Pro 15"
    (Late 2008 model MacBookPro5,1)
    Intel core 2 duo 2.53Ghz
    8GB RAM
    1TB HD with 390GB free
    Mac OS X 10.6.8
So, how well will Mountain Lion run on this configuration? Currently I'm finding my computer annoyingly slow, so am wondering whether an upgrade was worth trying or not?
Any advice would be most appreciated!
    Thanks!
    Joe.

Sorry, I should have been clearer - that's what I was thinking, which is why I was asking the question. I thought that if I was going to all the effort of a reformat etc that I should just upgrade to Mountain Lion while I was at it, but didn't want to do that if it was going to run really slowly anyway and then have to go through it all again to go back to Snow Leopard.
    etresoft wrote:

So, have you had any personal experience of Mountain Lion running fine on this MacBook Pro? I know that officially it will run, but I'm wondering about the "real life" experience of it running on this model.
Anyone out there able to share their expeience?
