Running program in foreground

How to make a z program to run in foreground. When excel upload file is selected from desktop, in the zprogram it runs in background. How do we make it run in foreground?

Is your Z report will post any transaction data?
If yes, then you co ordinate your ABAP guy, and ask him to put a selection of foreground option in that z program's selection screen. In techincal terms, only module pool programs can be run in foreground, where you will be able to see movement of various screens.
If it is a report program, then normal execute option can be used as foreground mode.

goto SM37, select your job, then in command bar type JDBG, press Enter. it will debug the back ground job, and you can check why you didnot get an output.

BDC Error:- Runs OK in foreground but NOT in background.

Hi All,
I am trying to do a BDC for stock putaway using LT01.
When I run this BDC in foreground
it runs successfully and transfers the stock OK with the following message:-
Field RL03T-ANFME. input value is longer than screen field (this is not an error message)
but when
I try to run it in background it gives me the following errors :-
Field RL03T-ANFME. input value is longer than screen field (this is not an error message in foreground)
Transaction error.
I know that a potential solution would be to write the LT01 using a BAPI or direct input etc but I would rather not go down this route.
Amny ideas?

Hi Niall,
I have seen BDC behaving the way you have mentioned. This is because in Foreground the error is taken as soft error/warning(Green light flashes) and it allows you to continue. Even though the data upload is sucessful, you will have problems when you go into the actual transaction. An error pops up saying 'Please enter all the required fields' etc.
But at the same time when it runs in background, the same error is taken as hard error(red status light) and it will not allow further process.
Try to debug this BDC program in foreground and when it comes to this stage make the system field SY-BATCH = 'X'. Then you will understand what exactly happens.
The background process should be taken as the way to go and you need to correct the data.

Hi,
We have had the same problem in a non-express application
with a heavy server partition. In our case, the error was not
systematic, depending on the server workload at the time we
tried to partition and run.
The work-around we're using is to put the -fm flags (increasing the x
parameter to say 30000) in the 'server arguments' of your server
partition
properties in the partition workshop. Note that if your server is a Unix
platform,
you need to put double-quotes before and after the parenthesis in the -fm
syntax.

Access to a FG from another running program

Group, Is there any way to "get a hold of" a reference of a functional global running inside another vi? I have a program that uses a functional global to pass data between vi's of a program. I have this program starting up as a service when I start the computer so I don't really have access to its front panel. Part of the data that the FG holds is a STOP flag and will shut down mulitple parts of this program. I would like to build another program that I can start and run at will that will set the STOP flag in the "hidden" running program. I am not sure quite how to do this.

What you are essentially asking to do is to access an internal resouce of another program. Doesn't really matter if it's a LabVIEW program. In your case you could enable the ActiveX server for the other program so you can access the VI that way. The LabVIEW Help contains information on how to enable the ActiveX server for an app and how to use it from another application. You could also use shared variables. It sounds like either your hard drive or the SATA cable that connects it to the motherboard are failing. This could be heat related in your case, which is why you see it after it runs awhile. You can take it to the Genius Bar for a free evaluation. If you decide to test it yourself, I usually suggest moving the hard drive to an external enclosure. If it works there for awhile, the cable is probably the issue.

Need help in using [RUN PROGRAM] Activity against a server in another domain

Hi Experts,
We have two domains with two way trust enabled. Orch server exists in DomainA and target server exists in DomainB.
We are trying to execute some scripts(g:IPCONFIG) from orch server to target server using RUN PROGRAM activity. This is running fine and give expected results, if I give Built-in Administrator credentials in Security Tab. But I'm getting some
strange values like chinese/japanese language strings, If I use a DomainB/DomainA user (Part of local admin of the target server) in security tab as well as Advanced tab-->Runas.
Things I tried:
- DomainA/DomainB user in Security Tab as well as RunAs tab  ---> Strange Strings
- DomainA/DomainB user in Security Tab and BuiltIn Administrator in RunAs tab  ---> Strange Strings

does win8/8.1/10 kill/end-task long-running programs automatically as stated in specs? how specifically does it detect a locked-up process?
has this been put into windows 7 at any time to make it similar to windows 8?

My understanding the reason for this change was to handle locked-up programs.
I do have a number of long-running processes. some examples of mine and scenarios for other users:
simulations on a Workstation or HPC Server
doing a directory tree walk on a hard disk with >=1TB of data

From some of what I understand, you can also get the "Program Not Responding" or similarly titled dialog box when:

(?) can't remember for sure on this, but I think some badly formed calls or it was invalid values or data type mismatch to Win32 API can do this from buggy code. (win7)

does win8/8.1/10 kill/end-task long-running programs automatically as stated in specs? how specifically does it detect a locked-up process?
has this been put into windows 7 at any time to make it similar to windows 8?

First, I have to admit that I'm not fully understanding the question, If a program is not responding, it means the program is interacting more slowly than usual with Windows, typically could be a confliction of software or hardware resources between
two programs, lack of system resources, or a bug in the software or drivers. In that case, we can choose to wait or end the program. This design is similiar in Windows 7, Windows 8 and other OS.

Checking for running programs using a abap program

Is there a way in ABAP to detect from within a program that another process is running the same program? Meaning if PROG1 is running, could PROG1 check to see if another process is running program PROG1?

Use the locking concept. You can either create your own, or a popular one to use is ESINDX, passing parameters: relid 'ZZ', SRTFD program name, and SRTF2 = 0.
The logic is:
Attempt to get lock (FM ENQUEUE_ESINDX, perhaps).
If lock got -> run program
If lock not got -> quit.
You have to put this logic at the start of your program.

Payment Run Programe Issue Duplicate Enrty in REGUH & REGUP

I am facing a problem in F-58 transaction, I have developed customized Cheque format in Smartforms, and I customized the standard payment run program RFFOUS_C to ZRFFOU_C, when I payment with F-58 my predefine format will be printout, it is working fine but some time payment tables(REGUH & REGUP) have duplicate the payment Item anybody have some idea or solution whatu2019s goes wrong. The field LAUFI (additional identification) is used to distinguish between several runs with the same reconciliation key date. You can freely define the identification.So multiple entries are result of multiple runs.

Payment Run Program (FPY1)

Hello Experts,
I am trying to understand payment run process (FPY1) and outbound direct debit file generation using standard transactions. We are using NACHA defined ACH format (which is a standard format used by US based banks). I found below event Modules for Payment Medium Formats: FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_00, FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_20, FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_30, FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_40. Unfortunately I am not able to determine their usefulness.
As per my understanding FPY1 updates DPAYH table and then run program "SAPFKPY3" to generate a file but then whats the use of function modules mentioned above?
Also, when I ran "SAPFKPY3" it generated message saying "Format ACH: No payment mediums created - No payment media were created for payment group 0 for format ACH." I am damn sure I am missing something, but don't know what.
Any suggestions would be of great help. Thanks.

The FMs that you have mentioned in your post are used to create the ACH format file that is send to the banks.
FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_20-For File Header
FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_30-For Batch header
FKK_PAYMEDIUM_ACH_40-For Payment Details
You can view these FMs by going to Transaction Code-FQP3. Select in the ACH format and clicking on "Event Module for Payment medium formats.
So, the ACH file that gets created during the FPY1 run is actually done by the standard program SAPFKPY3 with the help of these preconfigured FM's linked to the ACH payment medium format.
Now to the error that you are getting.Firstly Check whether the payment proposal list is getting generated or not.
If the payment proposal is not there, then there is some basic problem in the configuration settings.
(a) Check the company code for which you are running the FPY1 run, is the Payment medium linked with that in the config.

Define Payment Methods

The manual activites are as follows and has to be perfomed one after another.

Whats the error message??
Just a guess, but could be (without seeing the error) that you've already closed the TestCaseBuf reader by closing the result set, hence when you go to read it, you're reading on closed reader.
Give this a go...Put the // code into the result set while loop
