Running programs won't stay minimized

Hi, I have a MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2009) (2.66 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3) that I just upgraded to Yosemite. Since upgrading, whenever I minimize apps back into the Dock, after a few seconds my desktop background will flash to black and then all of my minimized programs will be back onto my homescreen. Whenever all the programs are on my homescreen, the desktop background is fine and doesn't flash but as soon as I minimize an app, it flashes to black and brings it back to the screen. I've never had a problem like this before. Any suggestions??

I have been having this same problem for ages BUT I think I have solved it. A while back I was trying to save memory and one of the settings that I tried, and forgot about, was config.trim_on_minimize in about:config . I had it set to "true" but now that I have set it back to the default of "false" the problem seems to be, for me anyway, fixed.

I have the same problem. This problem has shown up and gone away many times over the last couple of years. Its the main reason that I rarely use iTunes.
Have you found a solution? I'm tired of buying MP3s from iTunes and playing them in Windows Media Player

  • InDesign CS4 documents won't stay minimized

My newspaper just went to InDesign as our pagination software, switching over from Quark, and we love it. However, there is one nagging issue with it that we cannot seem to figure out, so I thought I'd toss it out here.
There are times, of course, when you want to minimize your page into the dock to tend to business in other application windows on your desktop. However, when you minimize an InDesign page/document, after a certain period of time, the window will spontaneously maximize back up onto the desktop.
Basically, we'd like to know how to keep an InDesign page/document minimized until we want it to be maximized. We don't want it to bounce back up of its own volition, we want it to maximize when we decide it should be maximized.
We are running Mac OS X 10.6.4.
Thanks in advance for any help.

This happens to us, too. Drives me nuts.
In my case, it doesn't happen spontaneously or randomly, but when I have one or more pages minimized in the dock and open a NEW page to work on, the last page I was working on opens first. I don't want that one! If I did, I'd open it. I want to work on the NEW one.
    Why does InDesign do this?
    Does anyone have an answer?

  • Program won't stay open. Message; "Photoshop Elements 12 editor has stopped working."

This started happening suddenly a day ago.
Once I bring a photo into the program a window appears reading, "Photoshop Elements 12 editor has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working. Windows will close the program & notify you if a solution is available."
The program has been working fine up until a day ago.
    Please advise a fix.

Please try couple of probable solutions as mentioned below:
    Solution 1:
    1. Close Elements.
    2. Launch the Photoshop Elements Welcome Screen and hold down ctrl + alt + shift as you click Editor.
    3. Continue to hold the keys until you see a message box asking if you want to delete Photoshop Elements settings file; click Yes. Elements will open with default preferences.
Solution 2: In case any network printer is attached try to launch without network or printer uninstall or make different printer as default.
Solution 3: Try launching with anti-virus off or removing PSE from conflicting list.
    Solution 4:
On the drive on which you have installed PSE,on my machine it is on C:
Go  to C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop Elements  12\Locales\<locale>\Plug-Ins\Import-Exportand you will find twain  plug-in. Remove that plug-in from that location and copy it somewhere  else.
Now launch PSE and check if it works.

  • Finder won't stay selected if other programs open and can't open new window

I have just noticed a new problem. If other programs are open, Finder won't stay selected program. If I alt tab to it or click on it in dock, it shows on menu bar for a half second and goes away. If I right click on icon in dock and select open new window, it will not do so. If I select a folder from the desktop, it opens in Finder with no problem and I can move within the Finder at will.
I have updated all software. I am running the current Macbook Pro 15in. No other problems noted so far.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance

Hi Sleddaddyfro, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Do you have another account you can log into?
One way to test is to Safe Boot from the HD, (holding Shift key down at bootup), run Disk Utility in Applications>Utilities, then highlight your drive, click on Repair Permissions, Test for action in Safe Mode...
PS. Safe boot may stay on the gray radian for a long time, let it go, it's trying to repair the Hard Drive
    Reboot, test again.
If it only does it in Regular Boot, then it could be some hardware problem like Video card, (Quartz is turned off in Safe Mode), or Airport in 10.4 & below, or 3rd party add-on, Check System Preferences>Accounts>Login Items window to see if it or something relevant is listed.
Stuffit AVR has been a big one, if you have that use the Pref Pane to turn it off, but others have been implicated too. Check System Preferences for a Stuffit Pref Pane and disable AVR.

    2. Uninstall antivirus using removal tools (Kapersky)
    3. Registry trick as
JSB43211 suggested, backup your registry before perform this
    1. Open Regedit as Administrator
    2. Find the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Print\Environments\ key.
    3. If you are on a 64-Bit machine, browse to the "Windows x64" sub-key (else "Windows NT x86")
    4. Under the "Print Processors" sub-key DELETE ALL THE SUB-KEYS EXCEPT "winprint" key
    5. Start the Print Spooler service.
    6. Test to see if you can Add a printer.

  • I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

    Hi NicoMan,
According to your description ,we seem to suffer a performance issue here.
Have you tried to open the task manager to check the system performance  ? Is there any specific process occupied many system resources ?Will the issue occur only with the specific applications ?
We can try to restart the Windows Explorer process to have a check.
If it only occurred with the spefcific two applications ,we can try to end the other application processes manually from the task manager to have a check .
If this is caused by the specific application ,we may need to look for help from the third party support considering they are all the third party applications .
    Best regards

  • My accounts program won't run without legacy Java SE6 runtime since I upgraded to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it

My "Solar" accounts program won't run without "legacy Java SE6 runtime" since I upgraded my iMac desktop to OS x Yosemite but I can't download it, nothing happens when you click on the link to apple support

Okay, I'm not a Genius, but, I'm smarter than the one I spoke to at the Apple Store. They told me that they couldn't help me with Legacy Java SE6 Runtime. Adobe has the worst support in the industry so don't call them.
If you have a Time Machine backup, go to one that pre dates your install of Yosemite. Go to the System/Library/Java and drag copy the folder to your internal hard disk. Now you will need the Administrator password. Once copied, drag the old Java folder into your System/Library folder and when asked to replace, click OK. Restart your Mac and you will have use of your software that requires Legacy Java SE6 Runtime.
I'm totally done with Apple since they are trying to box me into a corner. Have fun kids.

  • Many problems. Programs won't mount and fan runs a lot

Ever since I installed my Ipod shuffle I have had all kinds of problems. I doubt that has anything to do with it. Sometimes my computer will go to sleep and the fan will just run like crazy. The computer won't wake up. The only way is to reboot. I also have a problem with programs not opening but in the program bar they have the arrow. Then they won't close unless I reboot. The other problem is that downloaded programs won't mount and therefore won't open. When I double click it says program failed to mount? Any ideas?

Before doing an Archive and Install as MGW suggested, I would try the following first:
Except for your keyboard & mouse, disconnect all devices from your computer...........
Run disk repair & permissions directly from your Tiger DVD.
I would also suggest that you consider updating your OS & updating and/or downloading anything else your computer needs by using your Software Update control panel.
If you do the above, you will need to repair permissions after each installation.
By any chance do you have DiskWarrior, Techtool Pro or Drive Genius?
"Apple has been no help with anything with this computer. The little ball on the mighty mouse broke after a week of use and they wouldn't do anything about it."
I'm sorry but, I find this hard to believe. Like MGW already stated, Apple should have offered you a replacement as you were entitled to one under your "standard" one year warranty with Apple.

  • ITunes 10.2.2 does not stay minimized when updating Apps in iTunes Store

Running iTunes 10.2.2 on Mac OS X 10.6.7, when I'm on the iTunes store, and request it to update all my iPhone Apps and then I minimize iTunes, it pops up again at every new download interfering with whatever task I'm doing.
Why won't iTunes stay minimized and run tasks in the background and constantly pop-up for attention?
    THanks,
    Daniel

I am having the same problem. I can't actualy minimize itunes at all. It stays open in full screen unless i go to the task manager. And then when I do anything in iTunes, even if I am in another app, it pops back into full screen.
The last four or five versions of iTunes have absolutely sucked ***.
Yet another annoying so called "improvement." What is wrong with you people at Apple? If you take your car to the mechanic to fix the windshield, they don't add a fifth wheel...

  • Opening New Window (Word, Outlook) Stays Minimized, Blinking in TaskBar

We are migrating to Office 2007, and have found the following. If we already have an existing word document open, minimized to the taskbar, and then we go to a web page and click on a url of a word document, then word icon on the taskbar starts to blink and stays that way, never opening the new window we clicked on, until we un-minimize the existing word icon already present on our taskbar. Once we maximize/open that window, the new window we clicked on opens immediately.
I have been told that the same thing also occurs in Outlook 2007, when we have an existing window (meeting, message, etc.) open. From what it looks like, it is only related to VBA code and/or clicking on a link. But if I double click on another file stored on my local pc or my network share, even though word is already minimized, it still opens the new document for me automatically, without me even having to do a thing.
I saw this was mentioned a while back as a problem with IE7 and Office 2003 after a hotfix. Our environment is Windows 7, IE8, and Office 2007.
    Thanks,
    Reuv

I found a solution after much troubleshooting including uninstalling/reinstalling Office 2010 which didn't solve the issue.
    Here it is:
When Outlook or some other Office program is minimized in the taskbar and won't open, right click the taskbar to bring up task manager.
Right click the program in the task manager list that is giving trouble and click Maximize.  You should now see a full screen.
This worked for me and solved the "open and stays minimized" delima.  Hope this helps you too.  Cheers :)
Thanks a bunch this saved me a potential headache!
