Running Reason as ReWire slave within Logic Pro 8

Hello All,
I'm new to the ReWire business, and have an old "Reason Adapted for Digidesign" program that I think should work as a slave within Logic, but Reason won't show up in the Library list when I boot up Logic. Is there something I need to install first to get Logic to recognize Reason, or how do I get them to sync up via ReWire? Thanks for your help--

Not exactly Bee Jay... If you create a new track in Logic and check "External Midi" box in the New Track dialog, then Reason will show in the Library, does not matter if you created Rewire auxes, Reason environment objects etc... Then you double click the Reason in the Logic library and it will open the Reason app. like you do from applications, dock etc...

  • Reason 8.1 will not ReWire slave to Logic Pro X? Anyone else experiencing this?

    Hi folks,
I'm running the latest version of Logic Pro X (10.1.1) and the latest version of Reason (8.1) on a brand-new Retina iMac running Yosemite (10.10.1).
Prior to this, I was running Reason 6.5.3 and I also have a copy of Ableton Live 9.1.7. (On the same brand-new iMac, to be clear.)
    Here's the problem:
Old Reason (6.5.3) would enter ReWire Slave Mode with Logic Pro X with zero issue. Same goes for Live 9.1.7. But once I upgraded to Reason 8.1, it won't do it anymore. I'm doing the obvious things:
-I open Logic first, before Reason
-I've made sure that CoreAudio and ReWire are turned on in Logic's Audio Preferences pane (I've also tried toggling both on/off)
-I've made sure that both programs are running 64-bit (although I did try running Reason in 32 as an experiment)
-I've downloaded and reinstalled the latest version of ReWire (1.7, I believe -- might be remembering that version number incorrectly)
-I've tried all of this with and without my Reason Ignition Key in a USB slot
No matter what I try, though, Reason never slaves itself.
It WILL slave itself to Ableton Live, though. So, to be clear:
    -Live will slave to Logic
    -Reason will slave to Live
-Reason will NOT slave to Logic
Am I overlooking something really silly here? I'd love to find an answer to this question so I can get back to my usual workflow ASAP!
Thanks very much for your help. I really appreciate it.
    Cheers,
    Adam

    Hey Adam,
I am also having rewire problems with Reason 8.1 into Logic 10.1.1 and as you experience it's not with Reason into Ableton or Ableton into Logic (although Ableton has crashed a few times this way). Everything worked fine for me up until I downloaded the latest Logic download last week.
Is your Reason loading up as normal in stand alone mode? For me, Rewire either works perfectly (10% of the time) or I get the error message 'Engine not responding. Please check your Rewire host'. I have tried reinstalling Logic and have checked lots of forums but cannot find any concrete answers.
It's kinda driving me crazy as I'm in the middle of a project so would like to get it sorted asap! Let me know if you find anything! M

  • How do I run a Midi Light show from within Logic Pro?

    Hello,
I'm trying to figure out how to run a midi light show along side or within logic pro. I currently run .wav synth files through logic into an Onyx Satellite into the PA system, I want to run a lights show that fits perfectly with each part of the songs running on logic pro. I need tips on everything: hardware, what intelligent lights I need, how to best program and set this up.
Any help would be greatly appreciated

    Hi
I use the NSI MC1616 midi controller. with it you can control 16 separate banks of lights and store 16 scenes. the unit uses midi program change messages for each scene and CC #1 info for fade rate. Since the MC1616 sends the program info midi out, I use it to send the commands to logic in real time, playing along with the song, pressing the scene buttons, to program the lighting cues.
    Hope this helps

With the rewire slave running, create an aux track in Logic. You should see rewire as an option for the inputs of the aux track.

  • I can't find converted apple loops in the loop browser within Logic pro 7

    Hello There.
I've cereated some apple loops with the apple loops utility. unfortunately I am unable to find them in the loop browser within Logic pro 7.2.1.
I've scaned them using the project manager " so Logic knows about them"
but still didn't reflect in the loop browser.
Is this the normal behavior or what am I doing wrong.
I hope I am doing something wrong, as to me the main feature of the loop browser is to be able to audition the loops quckly at the song tempo.
    Thanks a lot in advance
    Cheers
P.S searched in the Forum but the answers arn't very clear

Just drop them on the Loop Browser and the rest should be taken care of.

  • Rewire Mainstage into Logic Pro / internal soundcard

    Hey there, Logic Users!
I noticed that some of the Mainstage sounds are not too shabby and I would like them to load into Logic Pro.
Since my external soundcard is pretty much fried, I wanted to know if there's a way to rewire Mainstage into Logic Pro using the internal soundcard that the iMac provides?
    Thanks for all the responses,

    Hi
Mainstage and Logic share exactly the same plugins, channel strip settings and the like (with the notable exceptions of Playback and Loopback, which are only available in Mainstage).
There should be no need to attempt to hook up Mainstage to Logic simplly to load any sounds into Logic. Save the plugin presets or channel strips in Mainstage, and then Load them in Logic.

  • Rewire was hanging Logic Pro 7 in Leopard!

    Hey Guys,
I just joined because I wanted to share my experience ... I upgraded my Logic machine to Leopard yesterday. Logic wouldn't open. I was ******! I read some of the threads that 7.2 would work. I was using 7.2.1. I reinstalled 7.2 and it would still hang at the audio init.
So, I was about to revert back to my 10.4.9 disk image (which worked perfectly with Logic Pro 7.2.1) until I tried one more thing. I opened up the Activity Monitor after logic got hung on the audio init and "inspected" the logic process.
Lo and behold, it was getting hung at accessing the rewire connections for Ableton Live ... I haven't rewired Live or Reason into logic for several years! But the libraries are still talking to each other.
I searched for an explanation on uninstalling rewire extensions and found nothing. So I went into /library/application support/Propellerhead Software/Rewire/ and removed all the files under this folder.
I started logic and baBOOM! Audio units were loading up!
So far, Logic is working very nice under leopard at 7.2.0 ... But I have yet to produce a full song with it.
Lesson learned ... never upgrade unless you can afford to fool around ... I've got an album to finish in the next two weeks!!

Bingo! Some people get caught up in the upgrade game, and wait and wait for the newest upgrades, when in my mind Logic is perfect for me already. I guess they care more about the equipment than the music.
P.S. Keep making great music, and if what you got is working, Why change? Until Logic's arrange window behaves like Ableton's, I am not that excited about upgrading. But I will as soon as I finish the project I am working on.

  • Output Configuration for Monitors/Mic and Interface Trouble Within Logic Pro X

1.) I'm currently using a Shure SM58 connected to mic input 1 on an Alesis iO2. I'm getting no levels from the microphone itself when I attempt to record, and the levels on the interface itself are weak (never reaching above -20db). I'm new to this, so how in the world can I get this thing to record? My drivers are up to date regarding the interface.
2.) I'd like to use my pair of speakers as my primary listening source, but I'd also like to monitor through the headphone port on my interface at the same time. Is this possible?
There are obviously tons of questions related to these two, but I've exhausted a lot of potential solutions already with no luck.

    Hello Heart-A-Tact,
The articles below explains how to setup your audio interface with Mountain Lion and Logic Pro X.
The first step is to make sure you have the most recent drivers installed from Alesis.

  • How well does Rewire work in Logic Pro 7.2?

Has anybody who got 7.2 tried Rewire? What do you think of it? Any visible improvement?

probably thats gonna be a no no as well
this was not a bug fix
it was more loops for the GARAGEBAND users, and an intel base LOGIC
    not necessary a bug fix
i swore to god, i have a feeling after this update (7.2) apple is gonna make another update saying they have fix the real problems and we have to pay for it again
then you'll get some idiots from this forum who tell us not to blame apple but to wait and buy and try to see if the problem is still there
get a hint "LOGIC 7" was cool but useless, also 7.0.1 which was useless because it was for free and didn't really fix much bugs
then 7.1 which fix a few bugs but not the most important ones and it also introduced more bugs and they added more loops just to make us happy
    now there is 7.2 .GOD!!
again the most important problems haven't been fix
I bet you, you'll get some appleASS licking user who is gonna tell us not to worry and wait for the next update and hope they fix it
why won't they just listen to our problem so they know how it is in the real world
you testing logic on a clean INTEL mac doesn't mean thats how it is all around
    hopeless!!!!

  • Logic Pro Quits Unexpectedly after Quitting Live

This is a minor thing but still an annoyance. Every time I use Ableton Live as a rewire slave to Logic Pro, everything works just fine--until I quit the programs. I'll quit Live first, of course--no problem. I'll then quit Logic--and as it quits, it hangs for a second, and then the "Logic Pro has quit unexpectedly" message appears. I've searched this discussion and the Logic Users discussion to see whether others have experienced this as well--but I haven't found anything. Any thoughts?

    Hi....
This happens with my system too exactly as you've outlined above. I 'close' the current track within Logic before quitting the app itself. I've no idea if this makes a difference but don't like to risk corrupting data within song files.

  • Reason Rewire with Logic Pro 7.2!

    Hey guys,
I had no problem rewiring Reason in 7.1 on my PowerPC Mac Mini, but on my Intel Macs, with 7.2, Rewire is not an option in the Channel List on an Audio Object or Aux. I notice there is still rewire layers in the Env, but I'm confused about the one slave, two slave thing, (A and B). Am I doing something wrong? Or do I need to update Reason from 2.5 to 3.0? Help! Please!

For Rewire to correctly work on Intel Macs, Both apps need to be running under Rosetta. Since Logic is a Universial Binary, there isn't a way to run Reason as a rewire slave from Logic.
You'll have to wait till a Universial Binary of Reason is released.
    more info http://www.propellerheads.se/
"Early testing using the Apple Developer Transition Kit shows that:
-Reason will continue to run in Rosetta, but the performance loss is similar to running Reason on a G3.
-ReCycle runs fine in Rosetta, with no measurable performance issues.
-ReWire works, as long as all applications in the session are PowerPC-based."

  • Logic Pro 8 & Reason 4 Rewire

Hello my friends. Please, help me out. After long amount of trials, I finally was able to have the sounds from Reason 4 come out through Logic Pro 8 of Logic Studio. In order for that to happen I had an Inst (Aux) track open receiving the Reason Mix left and Right channels and sending to Output channels 1 & 2. The problem is that the sound comes out ******** with a certain amount of delay. No delay is programmed neither in Reason nor in Logic. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance for your responses.

I've had a slightly different but perhaps related problem with Reason in both Logic and Digital Performer. In my case using the Redrum drum machine in Reason and the pattern sequencer in Reason, when you start playback it will make kind of a cut-off squelch kick drum sound on beat 1, then complete silence for about 2 and a half beats, then the sound of the beat will kick in mid-measure.
I haven't done a lot of testing about when and where this happens in the sequence; I work around it by programming 2 measures of silence (pattern D-8 perhaps) into the Redrum before the start of the song and starting the playback from that. It seems like even doing that if you start playback at measure 1 beat 1 it will make that kick drum squelch on the first beat.
Sorry my comments are so vague as to be of little concrete help but I just wanted to point out that I've also had issues on starting up playback of drum beats in Reason when using it in ReWire mode.

  • Logic Pro 8, Reason, and Rewire

I have been trying to get redrum to record into Logic. I have it all set up correctly because I can get other instruments in Reason to work and I can get the drums to work if I manually do it with a keyboard, but I cannot get the sequencer to record.
I have been trying forever to try and figure out this problem.
I have a track in the mixer and in the actual Logic recording section. The redrum via rewire is ran through channels 3/4 and output 1/2. In the mixer, you can see the levels jumping and hear it when I run the sequence in Reason, but when I hit record, nothing records in Logic.
I feel silly because I feel like I'm only missing one small step, but I have no idea what it is and I can't get any of my drum tracks recorded. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Are you trying to record the audio output of a redrum sequence, or are you trying to record the midi notes of a redrum?
For audio, just bounce your drum loop in Reason and load into Logic as an AIFF, or run Reason via rewire, and program your midi notes for redrum through Logic, or set midi channel changes to strat and stop/ select which patter via CCs and record in Logic.
I don't think you can record the midi notes that Redrum makes with it's sequencer into Logic.
Here's a simple setup to get redrum working with Logic.
    Open Logic, then open Reason
create an external midi track, in the library select Reason
In Logic, create a bus, and select the input to be Reason rewire output R/L
In Reason, make your redrum with the patch you want.
Back in Logic, select the track, and in library select the redrum.
Now notes recorded into that channel will trigger the notes of the redrum, but the audio will come into the bus you made.
    Hope that helps.

  • Logic Pro 9 as Slave?

I have Logic 9 and Pro Tools 9. I was wondering if there was a way to open Logic within Pro Tools. Maybe as a plug-in? Apologies if this thread already exists.

you can slave presonus studio one pro to Logic Pro on the same machine I have been told. as far as Logic Pro as a slave for protools your best luck is to have a dedicated second machine with protools to slave with Logic Pro on its own machine. Logic Pro and protools are notorious for not talking well together slaved on the same machine since protools uses rtas plugins and logic pro uses audio units or wrapped vst's to audio unit plugins. Logic Pro and Studio one both host AU plugins.

  • Why won't Logic Pro 9 run on my Mac running OSx?

When launching program get message "You can't run this version of the application Logic Pro with this version of Mac OS X. You have Logic Pro 9.0.0."
And yet Mainstage, bundled with Logic Pro 9.0, will run.
Is there an update or upgrade I need to purchase in order to run this VERY expensive program?
Is this problem related to the fact that I originally purchased the Logic Express and then the Pro upgrade?
I ran this program on my Macbook Pro unti lit finally died after 6 years of hard use.
    Help?!?!

    Hi
Logic 9.0.0 will not run under Lion. You need to run Software update, or go download the necesssary updateers directly from Apple Support.
Note that, for the updaters to work, the Logic Application *MUST* be a) in your Applications folder, and not in any sub-folder, and b) it must be named "Logic Pro" without any numbers or spaces after the name.
