Running Starcraft 2 on Current Gen. Macbooks (not MBP's)

I've been thinking some about Starcraft 2 system requirements and found this site:
http://www.freakygaming.com/pc/strategy/starcraft2/systemrequirements
anyway my concern is this; I'm thinking and hoping the macbook can run starcraft 2 without very many problems. I hope our onboard video will be enough to support the game and support it with good performance and good graphics quality. The info in the link above is plainly a guestimate but what are some opinions on how well the macbook with 1 gig + ram, and the Intel Gma 950 graphics, will perform with Starcraft 2 (the only game I plan on playing for a long long time).
Thanks.
white Macbook 2ghz c2duo, 1gig ram(for now)

Hi mokwen,
as you already correctly stated:
everything at the moment is pure guessing.
I am convinced, that even Blizzard does not know at the moment , how the system requirements are.
So, my personnal opinion is, that the processor of your MB might be sufficient; for Memory an upgrade to 2GB could be neccessary; the GMA950 is most likely the bottleneck of the system, but it had to be seen, what downgrades in the video options of the game are to be made, so that it runs smoothly.
But also, there is the question, when SC2 is to be released and what systems are then avaiable.
So for now, I would suggest to stay calm and collected and see what future brings.
I propose to not get into any hurry for system upgrades.
Have Fun
Stefan

What size are the two audio ports on an older model MacBook, not MBP?

How come if I plug one of my two jacks on a headset it seems loose.  i know the single jack is supposed to be the same size, but it doesn't seem the same.
If I get the two jacks to one jack adaptor, both ends 3.5mm is that correct?

  • Not sure if my Macbook pro can run Starcraft II...help?

I got a Macbook Pro for college and, being the only computer that I own, I'm not sure if its capable of running Starcraft II. Here are my specs:
    -2.7 GHz Intel Core i7
    -4GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    -Intel HD 3000 384 MB
    -OS X Lion 10.7.4
I believe thats all the important stuff. My main concern is the GPU...but being a mac its a pain in the *** to customize any parts like you can with a PC.
Also, I know hardcore gaming on a mac isnt the best way to go, but please spare me the lectures. I would rather just see if its capable of running it than shelling out a few hundred dollars for something that can.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks, that was my biggest concern actually. I read a bunch of forums and found that it can, in fact, play it very well when set to low or even medium graphics. I wasnt planning on making the graphics too high anyway because of the poor cooling system.

  • HT1449 I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices

I've transferred my itunes library from PC to Macbook pro running latest itunes and now it will not recognize my iPods (nano 4 and 5th Gen an Ipod touch).  All music is there and playable but will not recognize any devices. Help please

The ipod is not a backup/storage device.
You need to copy everything from your old computer to your new one.
The Apple store will do this for you,  you can call apple support and they will help you, you can use google.

Keep in mind you can also use the optical drive of another computer to upgrade OS X. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2129 has information on how to do that. This works on a Windows PC as well as a Mac.

  • Why can't I upgrade to yosemite? I'm currently running snow leopard on my white macbook.

Why can't I upgrade to yosemite? I'm currently running snow leopard on my white macbook.

White MacBooks are NOT eligible to upgrade to either 10.8 Mounain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks or 10.10 Yosemite.
You maybe able to upgrade your white MacBook to OS X 10.7 Lion
    OS X Lion system requirements
To use Lion, make sure your computer has the following:
An Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7, or Xeon processor
Mac OS X v10.6.6 or later to install via the Mac App Store (v10.6.8 recommended)
7 GB of available disk space
    2 GB of RAM
You can purchase a OS X 10.7 Download code here.
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/D6106Z/A/os-x-lion
Before embarking on a major OS upgrade, it would be wise, advisable and very prudent if you backup your current system to an external connected and Mac formatted Flash drive OR externally connected USB, Thunderbolt or FireWire 800, Mac formatted hard drive. Then, use either OS X Time Machine app to backup your entire system to the external drive OR purchase, install and use a data cloning app, like CarbonCopyCloner or SuperDuper, to make an exact and bootable copy (clone) of your entire Mac's internal hard drive. This step is really needed in case something goes wrong with the install of the new OS or you simply do not like the new OS, you have a very easy way/procedure to return your Mac to its former working state.
    Next,
If you run any older Mac software from the earlier PowerPC Macs, then none of this software will work with the newer OS X versions (10.7 and onward). OS X Snow Leopard had a magical and invisible PowerPC emulation application, called Rosetta, that worked seamlessly in the background that still allowed older PowerPC coded software to still operate in a Intel CPU Mac.
The use of Rosetta ended with OS X Snow Leopard as the Rosetta application was licensed to Apple, from a software company called Transitive, which got bought out, I believe, by IBM and Appe  could no longer secure their rights to continue to use Rosetta in later versions of OS X.
So, you would need to check to see if you have software on your Mac that maybe older than, say, 2006 or older.
Also, check for app compatibilty  here.
    http://roaringapps.com/
If you have any commercial antivirus installed and/or hard drive cleaning apps installed on your Mac, like MacKeeper, CleanMyMac, TuneUpMyMac, MacCleanse, etc. now would be a good time to completely uninstall this apps by doing a Google search to learn how to properly uninstall these types of apps.
These types of apps will only cause your Mac issues later after the install of the new OS X version and you will have to completely uninstall these types of apps later.
Once you have determined all of this, you should be able download OS X 10.7 Luon from the Mac App Store icon in the OS X Dock and then login to the Mac App Store using your Apple ID and password.
You can then begin the download and installation process by using the paid download code to Download and install OS X 10.7 Lion rom the Mac App Store.
    Good Luck!

  • Will the 2.4GHZ, 13" Macbook Pro run Starcraft 2?

Will the 2.4GHZ Macbook pro run Starcraft 2, and if so run it at decent settings? Thanks.
    The recommended PC requirements are:
Hard Drive Space :4 GB free hard space (Beta)
    Operating System :Windows XP SP3/Vista SP1/Windows 7/Mac
Processor : 2.2 Ghz Pentium IV or equivalent AMD Athlon processor
RAM :1 GB system RAM/1.5 GB for Vista and Windows 7
Video Card :128 MB NVidia GeForce 6600 GT/ATI Radeon 9800 PRO video card

    Hope this helps.
I have a 13" MacBook Pro (late 2009 model) with 2 gig of ram with the Nvidia 9400M.
I'd say it plays OK on Low. Framerate drops considerably with lots of units, but still playable. Medium setting seems playable with campaign but the framerates seems to be in the high teens and I probably would not recommended it for multiplayers. The new 2010 models should do slightly better but don't count on setting it to High or Ultra.
In Low setting, Gfx-wise, it looks a little bit better than StarCraft 1 (Original). Don't expect a WOW factor.
For me, I have it installed on a much more powerful machine (PC) with all setting jacked up to max and it looks pretty sweet I'd only play on my MacBook if I'm away from home.
Good Luck Hope to see you in battlenet

  • Will FCS run on a MacBook (not MacBook Pro?)

I'm looking in to getting FCS, but I've got a MacBook, not a MacBook Pro. Am I understanding it correctly that FCS won't run on my MacBook because I don't have some graphics processor/chip/card?
If that's the case, is there any way for me to run FCS on my MacBook?

I won't be installing anything but DVD Studio Pro 4. Although just today my Compressor (came with Logic) stopped working, so I might try to install that one as well. I don't know what the **** is going on but since I've 'upgraded' to Snow Leopard my programs are dropping like flies.
Larry, you say that FCS 3 works with your MacBook. On the Apple site as well as others it is simply labeled Final Cut Studio. It comes with Final Cut Pro 7 and all those other programs, but I'm wondering what the current version of the entire package is and if it is the same one that you mentioned. Or maybe FCS 3 is a previous version that will be impossible to locate?

Are you sure you have a 4g/3g iPod?   If you don't have a camera, it's definitely not 4G.  If it has no camera and is 8 or 16 Gb it is a 2G and can't go beyond 4.2.1.

No, nothing will prevent the computer from going to sleep when you close its display except third-party hacks that are designed to do exactly that. I strongly advise against using any of those, as they may interfere with successful entry into clamshell mode (and they carry other downside risks as well). Just wait until the computer is asleep (with its sleep light pulsing), then press any key on the keyboard. It sounds as though your setup is working as it's designed to do.

Then it's time to call Apple tech support while you are still under warranty.  Every iPod comes with complimentary, single-incident telephone technical support within 90 days of your iPod purchase.   If you also purchased AppleCare, then your warranty is extended for technical support and hardware coverage for two years from the original purchase date of your iPod.

It will make it easier to help you w/ your problem to know the  size and RAM installed.
"Yesterday I couldn't update the maps on my Garmin because it said the OS I had wouldn't work"
What OS will your Garmin work with? Funny there was someone else that did that and upgraded to Yosemite and regretted it.
I'd say Lion if your Garmin is compatible.
Both Lion and Mountain Lion are downloadable from the Apple Store:

The OSs will get more resource hungry the higher you go.

  • I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I updated to OS X Mavericks and now trying to run Logic Pro X on a MacBook Pro mid-2009, using an M-Audio Axiom 49 and an M-Audio Fast Track Pro... Logic keeps telling me that Mac OS X MIDI Services are not available... How do I solve this problem?

I just checked to see if the update to OS X Yosemite 10.10.1 solved any of the issues outlined in my previous post, and to my dismay, nothing has changed -- all of the previous problems persist.
My iMac (8) -- it's renamed itself eight times since the recent troubleshoot with the Apple tech rep -- shows up as a shared device in Finder on my MacBook Pro, but when I click on it, I cannot establish a connection using "Connect As".  So I've attempted to connect using the menu "Go/Connect to Server...", using both (alternately) the iMac's name and IP address, to no avail.  I get a message which reads: "There was a problem connecting to the server 'Peter's iMac (8)'. This server may not exist or it is unavailable at this time.  Check the server name or IP address, check your network connection, and then try again."
    Here's what I know:
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) does exist;
    The server -- Peter's iMac (8) is available at this time;
    The server name -- Peter's iMac (8) -- is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
    The server IP address is correct, as specified in the system sharing preferences;
The network connection is active when I attempt to connect.
I'm convinced the problems stem directly from the OS X Yosemite update.  None of this was ever remotely an issue in the previous OS X's -- any of them.  This is maddening!  What can be done?  Apple?? Anyone???
