Running two different versions of mac os on  same  machine

I have canon software that only works in 10.4 wheras I'm on 10.5. Initially I was thinking I could use bootcamp to install 10.4 on the same machine and run the software but then I heard about paralels and thought I might be able to do this. Can I run two different versions of mac osx on the same machine, and if so how easy is it to switch between versions?? Thank you!!

Cool, thanks very much for the advice. If I am running 10.4 on an external is there anything I should bear in mind? Size wise what are the considerations?
I have 10.4.11 running on a small partition on my TM drive on each of my MBPS. They were and are my Tiger backups when I first installed Leopard. They run, I update them and occasionally use them.
Just hold down Option key on boot and the Tiger OS shows up. They are clones, created with SuperDuper. CCC works equally as well.

  • How can I run two different versions of Firefox, the latest does not work with an important site I need to use?

With the latest version of Firefox I cannot send "Quick Mails" to my students using the college's ANGEL system. I had to uninstall it and go to an earlier version. I prefer the newest rev.
Any way to run two different versions. It does not have to be simultaniously. Seems to be a problem on both my Mac and XP systems.
    Thanks,
    Kim

Currently I don't think there is a way to run two version of firefox at the same time. But you can install Firefox Beta or Aurora instead (which is build for future release for firefox) and help test it! Here's the link:

  • Is it possible to run two different versions of Apple operating system (for ex. 10.6.8 and 10.9) on a MacBook Pro, either on the same disk or from an external hard disk? If so, where would I find the details?

Is it possible to run two different versions of Apple operating system (for ex. 10.6.8 and 10.9) on a MacBook Pro, either on the same disk or from an external hard disk? If so, where would I find the details? (In order to be able to use the older applications no longer supported in 10.9)

If you want to add a second partition to the internal drive (in Disk Utility, select the drive, then open the partition tab and just click the + button), you should first be sure that you will have enough room to accommodate whatever the second volume will be. I am currently doing this for Snow and Mountain Lion.
To get to whatever volume is not the startup disk, restart and hold down option/alt at the chime, which will bring up a selection of the two volumes. Use the left or right arrow keys to select it and then hit enter/return.

    Hi All,
Is there any document about how to install different versions of MDM GUI clients on same Machine.
we have different version of MDM server in Sandbox and Developement environment. I know we can install different versions of GUI Clients by specifying different locations. But i am looking for some standard document / SAP note. Please if anyone has this information, it will be very helpful.
    Thanks and Regards,

    Hi Shiv,
You can find this information regarding different Version of GUI Clients on same machine from Standard SAP Installation Guide on Page 51
5.1 Maintaining Multiple Versions of MDM it tells that you can install multiple versions of MDM 5.5 on one host and switch between the versions. This may be useful, for example, when updating the patch level.

  • How to use two different versions of Firefox at the same time on Snow Leopard?

I recently upgraded to Firefox 4.0 on my 27" iMac running Snow Leopard 10.6.7.
Previously, I was using Google's "Page Speed" along with Firebug in Firefox 3.6.15 to optimize images in my web pages, and to find other areas to optimize.
Page Speed is not yet compatible with Firefox 4.0. I wrote to Google about this some time ago -- no answer yet.
If I run Firefox 3.6.15 in order to use Page Speed, I run into a few problems afterward when I start using Firefox 4.0 again, since they both use the same "Firefox" folder in my "Application Support" folder.
How can I set it up so that I can have two separate "Firefox" folders in my "Application Support" folder?
Or is there an easier way to use two different versions of Firefox simultaneously, even if one has extensions and/or plug-ins installed which are not compatible with the other version?
    Thanks for a great browser!

Please disregard my question. I just conducted more web search and learned how to use Firefox's profile manager in order to make a separate profile for Firefox 3.6.15.
You can find instructions on this page:
    http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Managing%20profiles#os=mac&browser=fx35
    '''A small tip:'''
If your Firefox app is named anything other than "Firefox" -- say for example "Firefox 3.6.15" -- when you follow the instructions at the above link, make sure you escape the blank space that is before the version number by adding a backward slash before it, when you type the command string in the Terminal. In other words, in that string, you should use this:
    Firefox\ 3.6.15
    I hope that helps someone.

  • Running 2 different version of Quicktime at the same time ?

Is it possible to have two different versions of QuickTime installed on one PC at the same time ?
The reason for this is that I have been using Sony's software MovieShaker to import and work with Sony's proprietary MMV video camera format. This piece of software works with QuickTime version 5.
Now that I recently bought the iPod nano, I have installed iTunes, which of course works with a higher version of QucikTime (6+).
With this higher version of QuickTime, my video capture software does not work and vice versa, with QuickTime 5 my iTunes (and iPod nano) can not be used.
Is there a possible workaround that someone is aware of such that I can still work from one PC?
    Appreciate any feedback - thanks
PC Windows   Windows XP Pro   Sony Movieshaker 3.1 MMV format

You can only have one full installation of the QuickTime system software but the Player is just an application and should work with later versions. So what you need to do is re-install QT 5, which you can find for Windows here:
    http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/
then rename QT Player, let say Quicktime Player5. then reinstall QT 6. This time it should ignore the renamed Player (to be safe save it off line somewhere before reinstalling QT 6). No guarantee for Windows but this techinque works fine in QT for MacOS. Hope this works for you.

  • Running two different versions of the oracle client on my laptop

Hi, i have one application (iAvenue 6.1.3) which absolutely has to have the oracle 8 client installed. I have a second application (Isabel) which absolutely needs the oracle 9 client installed. Can i have the oracle 8 and 9 clients installed on my laptop simultaneously, which would allow both of these applications to work without any conflict? If so, how? Is there a file on my laptop that i can update to make sure this work?

There are no problems, you can run 8.0 and 8i, but be aware of the differences:
8.0 required an specific platform installer, it had its own set of regedit entries. 8i used the OUI. Beware of the %PATH% environment. And take care of connectivity issues. You should use two different listeners, if trying to use the same listener, use the 8i and check the compatibility with tns entries 8.0 and older.
When the transition between 8.0 and 8i took place, a lot of applications suffered mainly because of strange connectivity issues.

Is it possible to play two different movies on two seperate apple tv units on two tvs at the same time using the same itunes library

AC is corret you can do that.  It might work a bit better for you if you use a wired connection vs a wireless one for the ATV's.

  • NEED HELP!!  Problem running two different versions of Java

We have two applications that will only run on two specific java versions. The web app that is vital to our company will only work with 1.40. Certain things in Lotus Notes will only run on 1.50. The only way we get IE to work properly is to install 1.50 first and then install 1.40 for our web app. I have the option in IE for both versions, yet when I uncheck IE to use 1.50, and check it to use 1.40 it still tries to open the web app in 1.50. Any suggetstions? I am a noob when it comes to Java, and this is killing us support wise. Is their any setting I can change in the Java plug-in to make the web app only use the correct version?

The 1.5 JRE is backward compatible with 1.4.
If your i\1.4 app will not run under 1.5, I suggest you call the vendor and as them why thier application only works under 1.4?
If your web app is internally developed, tell the development team to get on the ball.

  • Can I have two active versions of JRE on the same PC?

Some one please advice me if I can keep two different versions of JRE on the same PC running under Win NT. I have to use one version(1.2.2) of JRE for running an application and a later version(1.3) for running some other applications.
I tried to install both and when I checked the registry entries, only one verion seems to be active at a time. Is there any workaround?
    thanx,
    Anoop.

Multiversion support is available in JDK 1.4.
You can download JRE 1.4 Beta 3 from http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4
    and test this functionality.
The following url discusses this topic in detail with a mix of version 1.3 and 1.4 examples. Similarly, you can have a mix of version
1.2 and 1.4 also for your needs.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/version.html
    Hope this helps.

  • Using two different versions of iMovie...Please help!!

I am new to using iMovie and need to know whether it is possible to jump between two different versions of iMovie on two different computers. I have created my movie on a computer using a higher version and need to put it onto a computer using a lower version of iMovie. Is it possible to do this without any problems? Thanks!!

    Hi newvopo,
    welcome to this forum
it is recommended to stay within one version of iM while working on a project (no updates/no "file sharing"); many/all (?) iM versions are not down-compatible, e.g. iMHD has a different file-management then the versions before, or iM6 has totally new effects, transistions, not supported by any other version...
you haven't told us, which two version you like to use...
    besides:
you help yourself by giving us as much info about your Mac and apps as possible... use My Profile to add info....
    recommendation:
export your movie done so far back to tape, import into the older version of iM on other machine.......

  • How can i deploy two different versions of the same application on the same server??

I have two different versions of an application. One is a released version. And another version under development. I need to port this version of the application to the same server. I'm using the same classes and packages(except for some new ones). Is it sufficient if i change the name of my ear(application name). Or should i change my code also.

    Hi
You can repackage the new versions of ear,jar and war with different names. I hope that should work well.
    Cheers
