Running Unity with both Exchange 2003 and 2010?

My company is planning to upgrade from Exchange 2003 to 2010.  We are
currently using Unity 7.0.  We'd like to run the two in parrallel for a bit and take our time switching users over.
Now I've read that Unity can support Exchange 2010, but I haven't found anything about running Unity using both Exchange 2003 and 2010 in parrallel.
Is this something Unity can handle?

We're doing something similar, but we have an in-place Unity 7 and Exchange 2003 environment; we are putting some users from an org we support on an Exchange 2010 server, but do not want that to be the partner server (yet).  The instructions seem to point you to making 2010 the partner; I'm wondering why Step 13 (of your link) we are uninstalling the Exchange Server 2003 System Management Tools, if it’s a mixed environment and 2003 will still be the partner server.  I also saw somewhere that you don’t have to move the unitymsgstoresvc account to Exchange 2010 if you are in a mixed environment.  Is that true?  Thank you.

  • Getting UConn 8.5 to work with both Exchange 2007 and 2010

According to the document below, I should be able to set up one Unified Messaging service to access mailboxes on both Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2007 servers.  I setup my service to point to 2010 CAS servers and I can access 2010 mailboxes, but testing 2007 mailboxes comes up with an http 200 error.  If I setup the CAS server as 2007, I can access 2007 mailboxes, but get an error on 2010 mailboxes.  This will be a real pain if I can't do this with one service.  I don't want to have to keep Unity Connection updated as users get moved from 2007 to 2010!  Anyoe know how to do this?
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/connection/8x/unified_messaging/guide/85xcucumg020.html#wp1198171

I got this to work!  My Unified Messaging Service was originally setup to Specify an Exchange Server.  That is where I had put the  DNS name of the  CAS server (and that DNS entry pointed to several CAS servers).  I changed the Service to Search for Exchange Servers instead and used that same DNS name in the Active Directory DNS Domain Name.  When I do the test of this service, it tells me it Failed to locate a Domain Controller via DNS, but that is just informational.  It also says it successfully connected to the Exchange CAS server with the autodiscover.xml.  Now my mailboxes on both Exchange 2007 and 2010 are able to receive voicemail messages with this one Service configured.

  • Public folders are not in sync after settting up Replicas between Exchange 2003 and 2010

I have setup Public Folder replicas between the 2 Exchange servers and I can see all the top and sub level folders.
For those mailboxes that were migrated over to Exchange 2010,  I have noticied  a lower number of item contents in these fodders when views from an Outlook client whose mailbox had been migrated over to Exchange 2010.
On Exchange 2003 System Manager, if I properties one of the Public Folders, under the Replicataion tab, I can see the old and new server there. On the Exchange server 2003 box, I can see the last update reviced was a few weeks ago.
I did see an option to synchronize content but I am not sure which server to run this one from. The Exchange 2003 or 2010 server.
There is also a Resend Changes... option. Should I use this instead?
    Can anyone advise?

    Hi,
The "Resend changes" and "Synchronize content" options in Exchange 2003 ESM are used to initiate hierarchy and content replication.
To update public folder hierarchy and content from Exchange 2010 side, you can use the following commands.
    Update-PublicFolderHierarchy
    Update-PublicFolder
Please run the Get-publicfolderstatistics cmdlet to get public folder details such as item count, this information will help you compare content replicated between the source and destination servers.
Besides, here is a blog about public folder replication troubleshooting for your reference.

Users unknown? That doesnt make any sense. Is the 2010 and 2003 server in the same forest? How did you migrate these users? What server is reporting the NDR? Please post the exact NDR ( and cover up the server and domain name if required)

  • Synching Zire 31 with both Outlook 2003 and Palm Desktop

I use Outlook at work but not at home so I synch my Zire 31 with Palm Desktop at home.  It works fine synching with both.  I like the Memos and Tasks features better on Palm Desktop, so I would like to use them at work. I'd like my Zire to Synch at work with Outlook for some features (i.e. Contacts and Calendar) but with Palm Desktop for others (i.e. Memos and Tasks).
When I use the setup CD, it asks if I want to synch with "Palm Desktop" or with "Outlook and Palm Desktop".  Based on this, it sounds like I should be able to choose the 2nd one and synch with Outlook and Palm Desktop, but I can't get it to do that.  When I choose that option and then go into Custom for synch setup, the only options there are for Outlook.  How can I get it use Palm for Memos and Tasks?
    Post relates to: Zire 31

Hi..  Welcome to the Palm forums.  What it is asking is, for Calendar, Contacts, Tasks and Memos do you want them to sync with palm desktop OR outlook?   Its all four or nothing.  When it is both what it means is if you sync with outlook, calendar, contacts, tasks and memos will sync to outlook all others, media, all your settings etc will go to palm desktop.  The main 4 can NOT be seperated its all or nothing.

  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration Active-Sync & OWA

I am in the process of migrating from Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2010. I have a co-existence running currently. I have moved 1 mail box over to the new exchange server (a test account I created). I have 2 questions, one about OWA and the other about Active-Sync/Mobile
    access.
    1. When I log into my internal OWA site I can access the webmail just fine. However when I try to go to my external OWA site I get a HTTP Error 404. I have setup the weblink https://webmail.company.com in my external DNS record. However the internal link
says it is https://webmail.company.com/owa. Is there something additional that needs to be setup in IIS for the external site to work or only after the migration is completed?
    2. I tried adding the account I migrated to my cell phone for mail but I just get a "Connection to server has failed" message. The internal and external link for mobile access is both the same and setup in external DNS https://mail.comapny.com.
Is this a feature that only works after the migration is completed? I have ports 80,443,143,25,993 open in my sonicwall for e-mail services. However the IP is still set to my old exchange server. Is it possible to have 2 settings the same in sonicwall with
2 different IP's? Last time I tried it with migrating my VPN neither VPN server worked after that.
Any help and insight would be greatly appreciated. I am new to systems administration and this is my first exchange migration

    Hi,
Here are my answers you can refer to :
    1. To deploy OWA in the Exchange 2003 and 2010 coexistence, we need a legacy namespace for the Exchange 2003 server.
For more information, you can refer to the following article:
     http://blogs.technet.com/b/exchange/archive/2009/12/02/3408921.aspx
Additionally, for the 404 error, I recommend you check the IIS log to find the root cause:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943891
    2. I recommend you deploy Exchange 2010 in the "Internet Facing AD Site" and Exchange 2003 server in the "Non-Internet facing AD site": set the external URL in CAS 2010 and point mail.company.com to Exchange 2010 server IP address.

  • Migrating exchange 2003 to 2010 while everyone is running SMTP, POP3 and IMAP on the old exchange 2003

    Hi all
We have a legacy Exchange 2003 running with more than 800 users and with a very mixed configuration for client access. Most of users are running POP3/SMTP on the Exchange, some are running IMAP/SMTP and some are running MAPI access.
Please note that THERE IS NO WAY that we move all users to MAPI access before the installation (due to deadlines).
We plan to install a new Exchange 2010, starting with a CAS/HUB server. We do not need to migrate users automatically, and we can proceed later to move them individually to the new Exchange 2010 infrastructure in a non-transparent way.
More importantly, we need to maintain that everyone receives their e-mail and all communication through the exchange 2003 continues uninterrupted.
My question is can we install the new CAS/HUB server, while maintaining the old exchange server running with it's old name and create new names for the CAS/HUB server. In such a configuration, will all the Exchange 2003 services continue to run as usual
    (POP3/IMAP/SMTP/MAPI)?

In addition, you may also spend some times at below mentioned helpful resources to check the prerequisites before moving all mailboxes from exchange 2003 to 2010 :

Moreover, to avoid any interruption  during the completion of migration process, you can also take a look at this application(http://www.exchangemigrationtool.com/) that could be a good alternate approach
    for you.

  • I bought a new imac running Loin and Office 2011. The server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software.

I bought a new imac running Loin with Office 2011. I am the only mac in the office and the Server we use to access emails runs exchange 2003 and my IT person says the imac is not compatible with the server. The server does not want to let me access using any email software other than webmail access through our website. It looks as though 2011 is not compatible with 2003 per some searches online, but what are some options I have to gain full access again? I purchased parallels in hopes that this my help and I am able to use remote desktop connection to log on to server but can not drag and drop files I need. There is a shared drive on that Server we all use to exchange files.
The two main issues are gaining access to my email again and ability to drag and drop files from mac to pc. I hope this is enough info to get some solutions.
PS - IT person says my iMac's IP is what his server does not understand so that is why I can not login.

Office 2011 is not compatbile with Exchange 2003.
I suggest you post further Office related questions on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac software:

  • Exchange 2007 and 2010 with Unity Connection 8.6

    Hi all,
We have unity connection 8.6 and exchange 2007 currently in place and runnign fine. I am ready to start migrating mailboxes over to our new exchange 2010 farm and as such we will be in co-exsistance with exchange 2007 and 2010 for awhile. What are the steps or procdures to also include exchange 2010 with the 2007 in unity connections? Currently under Smart Host is the IP address of our exchange 2007 server.
    Thank you.

    Hi,
This depends on how you plan on performing the migration. I would suggest the following:
-Creating a new unified messaging service for Exch 2010. You can re-use the same service account name as long as you completed the configuration steps for that integration.
-As you move over user's mailboxes from 2007 to 2010, you can delete the 2007 UM service and add the new 2010 UM service. If you want to change many users at a time you'll need to use bulk administration to change them. If you use BAT to change accounts, see the link below where I have listed them out for another CSC user.
-You can change the Smart Host setting once you have configured the Exch 2010 enviornment to handle your main corporate mail (changing the MX records to point to a 2010 Edge Transport).
Changing the UM service with BAT:

  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration

    Hello,
I seem to have ran into issues with Default GAL, default address lists, email address policies, OAB, etc.
Background: Exchange 2003, with one FE and one BE server with multiple domains for mail access. We decided to migrate to 2010 and have one hyper-v server with 3 VMS running AD, CAS/HT and MBX roles respectively. All the AD preparations and installation (exchange
2010 Sp2) of CAS/HT role was smooth. When I installed the MBX role it was successful but could not see Public Folder Database and was unable to create one because of AddressList errors and had to be upgraded to 2010. Since there were multiple domains, LDAP
filter were used and those had to be updated with OPATH filters and I used the "ConvertFrom-LdapFilter.ps1" script to convert and upgrade to 2010. I could do this for all the custom address lists but it did not run for "All Users", "All
Groups" "All Contacts" as it says ADObject cannot be found on exchange2003 server.
I created a test mailbox on the new server and could login using OWA but cannot see GAL or search for addresses. I could send and receive email from 2010 to both 2003 mailbox & external domain with no issues. I did configure the CAS role with legacy
URL (existing OWA URL https://myweb.domain.net/exchange) for exchange2003 and a new URL (https://mymail.domain.net/owa) for exchange 2010 and also enabled Outlook Anywhere, MS Active Sync, etc. But I cannot setup outlook using autodiscover or even manually
by providing the info. I have to start migrating users and this has become a big show stopper and would appreciate if anyone could help/guide me through this to troubleshoot/fix the issues and move the mailboxes ASAP.

    Hi SyedSF,
From your problem description, it seems that you have a permission problem here. Maybe you have had Address List Segregation configured in Exchange 2003 and that is not supported in Exchange 2010.
I recommend you to use ADSIEdit to check the permissions on "All Address Lists", "All Global Address Lists" and "Offline Address Lists". Include inherited permissions should be checked and "Authenticated Users" should have the permissions read and "Open
    address list".

  • Removing dead Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2000 Server from the domain

    Hi Team,
I have come across a client who wants to migrate to O365 from existing Exchange 2003 environment through the Hybrid Model. I am trying to introduce 2010 Sp3 to the environment. While checking the environment using Exchange pre-deployment found 2 servers
in the environment which is not present on the network now. Client has no clue what they are.
One is Exchange 2003 and the other is Exchange 2000. The problem here is i cannot introduce Exchange 2010 Sp3 unless all the Exchange servers are running minimum Exchange 2003 Sp2.
At present i find only 2 exchange 2003 Sp2 server which are in production. Need kind assistance to move forward.

    Hi,
I recommend you follow the steps below:
    1. Please upgrade Exchange 2000 and Exchange 2003 to Exchange 2003 SP2 at first.

  • Migration Exchange 2003 to 2010 routing connector

    Hello
At least we deside to migrate from 2003 to 2010 Exchange now i'm preparing and stuck around one question.
In our Exchange 2003 organization we have couple backend servers and one frontend on which OWA is installed.
OWA server placed to second routing group others backend server in first routing group.
Roitung group connected to each other by connector.
So the question - when i install CAS Exchange 2010 he asked me with which Exchange 2003 server i want to create connector - which server i should choose? Backend or Frontend which placed in different RG?

It doesn't really matter, it is a connector between your 2010 and 2003 servers.
You can choose the backend servers as it will reduce one hop in your case. Do make sure that you make the connector redundant by adding atleast two 2003 and 2010 servers as source and target servers in both connectors.
There will be two connectors - one from 2003 to 2010 and another from 2010 to 2003.

  • Upgrade Custom Recipient Policies as part of Exchange 2003 to 2010 Migration

    Hello,
We have Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2010 in co-existence. I have migrated all Mailboxes to Exchange 2010. Now I want to upgrade Recipient Policies.
We have 1 Default Policy, which I know how to upgrade
    Set-EmailAddressPolicy "Default Policy" -IncludedRecipients AllReipients.
But my I dont know how to do it for 2 other Custom Policies. I came to know about the conversion scripts (http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd351283.aspx)
but not sure how to run. I mean simply run the script on Exchange 2010 server or any special parameters needs to be included.
I can let you know the custom policies if required.
    Thanks,
    Mihir

    Hello Niko,
I have already gone through this article, but it states for the "Default Policy". For custom policy it says
    "Warning:
if you  happen to do this on Recipient Policies that have (advanced) LDAP queries, all custom filters can be reset to "mailnickname=*"
which can result significant email outages. You have to test all these changes in a dedicated lab environment to see how these changes will affect your Exchange environment!"
I want to know about Custom Receipient Policies, not the Address list.
    Custom Policy 1
    (&(&(& (mailnickname=*) (| (&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(!(homeMDB=*))(!(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=user)(|(homeMDB=*)(msExchHomeServerName=*)))(&(objectCategory=person)(objectClass=contact))(objectCategory=group)(objectCategory=publicFolder)(objectCategory=msExchDynamicDistributionList)
    Custom Policy 2
    (&(ou>="")(name=DOMAINNAME*))
    Custom Policy 3
    (&(mailNickname=*)(legacyExchangeDN=/O=NAME/OU=OURNAME/*))
So how to convert this custom policies.
    Thanks,
    Mihir

  • Exchange 2003 to 2010 SP3 migrate system PF

    Hello.
We on the road to move to Exchange 2010 and i have a question
Which system PF i need to replicate to Exchange 2010
    I have:
    Offline address book:
/o=orgname=cn addrlists/cn=oabs/cn=Defaul Offline Address Book (which replicated between exch 2003 and 2010) and subfolders there:
OAB version 2 (replicated between 2003 and 2010)
OAB version 3a (replicated between 2003 and 2010)
OAB version 4 (replicated between 2003 and 2010)
EX:/o=sovbank/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) (don't have any replica at all)
EX:/o=sovbank/ou=First Administrative Group (replicated between 2003 and 2010)
Shedule and Free Busy folder which contain subfolder:
EX:/o=sovbank/ou=Exchange Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) (don't have any replica at all)
EX:/O=SOVBANK/OU=EXTERNAL (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) (don't have any replica at all)
EX:/o=sovbank/ou=First Administrative Group (replicated between 2003 and 2010)
Question is - did i add all replica right?
Can i execute MoveAllReplica.ps1 or i miss something?
P.S. We don't use EFORM so i don't repicate it at all

Each time you create a new user mailbox, the user account receive the LegacyExchangeDN property.
This property is set only once and will match the administrative group that the mailbox server belong to.
In a Exchange 2003/2010 migration, your old user will have a legacyDN strting with EX:/o=sovbank/ou=First Administrative Group[..] while the user recently created in E2010 will have  EX:/o=sovbank/ou=Exchange
    Administrative Group (FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) [...]
So what is the link between this and the PF? The answer is outlook.
When an outlook client, with a mailbox  hosted on E2003, create a meeting request with other users and check for the availability, that query is against the public folder Schedule freebusy folder of each users.
That folder is updated, by outlook, each time you create an appointement or accept a meeting request. In the background outlook "push" your free/busy status to his "local"public folder. see here
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996946(EXCHG.65).aspx
In E2010 native, the query are handled by the availability service however that service is not reachable by E2003, or outlook 2003, therefore for backward compatibility any outlook client (even outlook 2010) connected to an E2010 mailbox will also
"push" the free busy data to the local PF.

(FYDIBOHF23SPDLT) need to be replicated on all servers.
