Running Virtual Shopping Mall Sample Application
Hi,
I'm trying with OTN demo application:
Virtual Shopping Mall Sample Application using
Business Components for Java Framework.
My question occurs in the moment of
running the application using Oracle9i JDeveloper.
As described in the Install.htm after going through
all prerequisite steps :
Running the VSM web application :
Right click on the project VSMWebapp.jpr and select "Run".
This will deploy the application to embedded OC4J ,
open the default browser and present you with the main page of the application...
In my case in the moment before opening the main page,
the Error page is displayed (shown in the bottom).
Can somebody help me for resolving this?

I select the SAP Server node and choose Publish from the context menu. The SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio switches to the Deploy View Console view.
At this time, the "Logon to SAP J2EE Engine" window appear.
I enter the below user and password.
user : Administrator
password : <master-password>
In the Deploy View Console, the below messages appear:

Virtual Shopping Mall installation problem
I was trying to deploy the VSM using EAR(Enterprise Application archive) Deployment method.
Step 4 instruction is to Run ant -buildfile build.xml from VSM. When I try to run ant, it display "build.xml file does not exist". I tried searching the build.xml file in the webstore directory but can't find any, where can I get the build.xml file?

I just checked the webstore.jar that is available for download from http://otn.oracle.com/sample_code/tech/java/ejb_corba/vsm/htdocs/vsmhome.html
It does have build.xml in the webstore directory. As suggested in the Readme, you need to run the command ant -buildfile build.xml from the webstore directory for generating the EAR file.
Please verify again and let us know if you still have any problems.

I downloaded the vsm-bc4j.jar file from the relevant web site. Then I tried to open the file. So I typed:
c:\jdk1.3.0_02\bin\java -jar vsm-bc4j.jar
But an error occurred after press the enter key:
Failed to load Main-Class manifest attribute from vsm-bc4j.jar
Then, how can I open the file?It's a ZIP file (JAR files are also ZIP files, just with a different extension).
You can open it with Winzip, the unzip command line tool, or use JAR (part of your JDK) to uncompress it.
The JAR commandline would be:
c:\jdk1.3.0_02\bin\jar xvf vsm-bc4j.jar

I am starting on a new project which is likely to be a fairly standard mvc -> session bean facade -> DAO/Entity bean type architecture. As we will be using 9ias, I was wondering whether it would worth using BC4J or whether to write everything ourselves albeit using open source stuff like Struts and ofbiz.
I was hoping to be able to find a GOOD BC4J sample application ie something like PetStore, just to see how this type of architecture could be implemented with BC4J. I have read Steve Muench's article on j2EE/BC4J which is very good but the examples are quite sparse and simplistic.
Any info would be much appreciated.

I am struggling ! I have downloaded the WAS J"EE sneak preview. All if installed on my machine and I have the Central services instance and the J2EE running OK.
I am working through the examples in the Developers Web Studio and trying to deploy the Virtual Shop Lite example. Ia m assuming that I need to deploy onto my server before I can use it from the URL given in the example ???
Anyway when I deploy it goes through setting up my workspace etc and then asks me to login to the J2EE server with a user ID and a password. Was their a default user ID and password ??
I am currently getting the following message ...

SSO java sample application problem
Hi all,
I am trying to run the SSO java sample application, but am experiencing a problem:
When I request the papp.jsp page I end up in an infinte loop, caught between papp.jsp and ssosignon.jsp.
An earlier thread in this forum discussed the same problem, guessing that the cookie handling was the problem. This thread recommended a particlar servlet , ShowCookie, for inspecting the cookies for the current session.
I have installed this cookie on the server, but don't see anything but one cookie, JSESSIONID.
At present I am running the jsp sample app on a Tomcat server, while Oracle 9iAS with sso and portal is running on another machine on the LAN.
The configuration of the SSO sample application is as follows:

/MadsPierre - When you work on the sample application, you should test the pages in a separate browser instance. Don't use the Run Page links from the Builder. The sample app has a different authentication scheme from that used in the development environment so it'll work better for you to use a separate development browser from the application testing browser. In the testing browser, to request the page you just modified, login to the application, then change the page ID in the URL. Then put some navigation controls into the application so you can run your page more easily by clicking links from other pages.

I'm working with a group of student interns, like myself, and we've been given an assignment to work with Oracle. All of us have no training or experience with this, so we're just learning as we go.
I've been trying to run the EJB QL Sample Application (http://www.oracle.com/technology/sample_code/tech/java/ejb_corba/ejbql/Install.html), but I keep running into problems at step 3.
Now, we will deploy the sample application onto OC4J. Open another command prompt and go to the folder <OC4J_HOME>/j2ee/home and run the following commands one-by-one

The Readme.html file is available with the ejbqlsample.jar downloadable (Extract and find the doc in Ejbql\docs\Readme.html) which is printable.
Or,
If you are trying to print the file directly from OTN site, you need to set the Page-Setup Orientation to 'Landscape'.

I am following examples on how to use Essbase based on the book "Look Smarter Than You Are With Essbase" by Edward Roske and Tracy McMullen. I am new to Hyperion and Essbase, and am trying to learn about it and document what it can do. I used the the Sample Applicaiton, Basic database that came with the installation files and opened it in Excel by connecting to Essbase through Provider Services (all of this was done within Excel). The sample is based on a fictious company called The Beverage Company. I set-up a specific view that shows Sales of the Cola product in the East region, comparing the Actual sales with the Budget sales. The Sales of each city within East sum-up into a total for the East region. When I change the Sales in a specific city, like New York, I can successfully hit Submit Data (from the Hyperion menu within Excel), and then can see that it has been updated in the Essbase Administrative Services Console. However, when I try to calculate the data, throught Excel menu Hyperion > Calculation Options > Calculate (like the book says to do), I do not get the same result as the book says. Instead of updating the Total Sales for the East region, it reverts the data entry in the New York cell back to the original value. So essentially, any ability to enter in new data or change budget data, which is the purpose of Planning, is non-functional if I cannot get the Calculate the data I change. Have other people tried to do a similiar task of updating cell data in Excel and calculate it? If so, were the results successful? -
Problem on running sample application: Versioning

(Building Versioning Applications with the Oracle Internet File System) and installed step by step as said from the installation guide.
I use AIX 4.3.3, JDK 1.2.2, Oracle DB 8.1.7.1 and IFS 1.1.9.

I find it in the /usr/java_dev2/lib/tools.jar and include it in the classpath but it still won't work.

Problem running Sample Application after intalling patch set 4.0.2.00.07
We just applied the patch set 4.0.2.00.07 on our TEST environment APEX4.0.
Now I can't run the sample application. When I run the application, login using either the admin or the demo user with the #lower_case_workspace_name#", the browser is generating below error message:
ORA-06550: line 2, column 8: PLS-00201: identifier 'CUSTOM_AUTH' must be declared ORA-06550: line 2, column 1: PL/SQL: Statement ignored
Error ERR-10460 Unable to run authentication credential check function.
The sample application works fine on our DEV environment APEX 4.0.0.00.46 *without* the patch set 4.0.2.00.07.
Does anyone have an idea how to resolve this
