Running Windows on MacBook Air

Hi
I am considering buying a MacBook Air 11 inch 128gb. However from time to time I will need to use Windows apps particularly Microsoft Access and I just wanted to check whether I will have any problems running Windows on this spec of MacBook Air?

I have exactly the setup you are thiking of getting, a mid year2011 11" i5 with 4GB ram and a 128GB SSD.
I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit using VirtualBox which is free, no need to Bootcamp.
I created a 30GB file for it. After initial install it had only used about 9-10GB.
At the moment with SQL Server Express and MATLAB installed, plus a few other things like Chrome browser for my windows coding, the file has grown to 17GB, and im having no problems.
In fact i tried installing SQL Server Express on a Vista 64 machine that was lying around, denied! it didnt work, but under the VM all is working well. how cool is that.
The great thing about using VirtualBox is that your windows machine is just basically one big file on your Mac disk, no fancy cumbersome dual installs needed, plus i didnt want windows polluting my Mac too much.
This is my first Mac and i cant say enough good things about it.
As for optical drive, im using a Samsung SE-S084 and it works no problems, its what i used to install Windows into the VM.

ps: one more little thing, when running Windows using VirtualBox, im allocating 3GB to Windows and 1GB to Mac and im having no problems.
basically i might have Chromium running in Mac, finder, preview and its all fine. I like to allocate a little bit more to Windows as i know a few of the coding tools can be a little hungry.

I need to install Windows on my Macbook Air because some of my classes require using Windows.
I am wondering if I can buy the Windows product key and create an ISO file from it (using this tutorial http://pcsupport.about.com/od/software-tools/a/create-iso-image-file.htm) on my family's PC, and then directly copy that file onto a USB. After that, I would transfer that ISO file from the USB and onto my Macbook Air and then run Bootcamp to get Windows on my Mac.
Though it sounds correct, I don't know if that will necessarily work (the copying the ISO from the PC to my USB part).
Please help! I need to have this installed hopefully within 2 weeks!

You can install Windows 7 or Windows 8 with an ISO image. I would suggest reading over the linked Boot Camp Installation and Setup Guide as a resource for information.

Can't run App on macbook Air

Hi, I am trying to run an App on my Itunes (MacBook Air, latest model) but although the App has downloaded, i can't get it to run. It is a childrens' App which, when running, allows me to download the individual videos/songs (Gigglebellies). As my Ipad won't connect to the wifi for some unknown reason, I want to download them into my computer and then sync them.
Any ideas on how to get the App to run on my Macbook Air?

Thanks very much. That *DID* occur to me but it seemed too obvious to be true... oh well, now I have to figure out why my Ipad won't download (but it logs into the App Store so the wifi obviously works!!)

Will Adobe Creative Suite 5 run on a Macbook Air?

Do NOT get any MacBook 2012 models if you use Adobe CS4, 5, 5.5 or 6. All models are crashing on any dialog box popup's, i.e. they are nearly unusable for work, unless you like saving every 30 seconds. They do restart Indesign very fast after it crashes... Apple has made no comment on what seems to be an obvious video card driver issue in OS X 10.7.4 on the new 2012 models. There are a number of other video related issues as well, but the show stopper for us is the Indesign incompatibility. Google "fixed" the Chrome problems by removing the 3D accelerator calls thereby slowing down Chrome on these models.

I am transcribing interviews of WWII veterans sent to me via Dropbox into Windows running on my MacBook Air. All words are distorted so this is very timeconsuming. Any ideas that are free?

I am a volunteer transcriber for WWII veterans giving their histories. The interviews are recorded somehow using Windows and they are very distorted when I use the Windows program loaded on my MacBook Air. Is there anything I can adjust on my Mac that would make the interviews I receive clearer. We use Express Scribe to listen to the interviews sent to us from a central location.

Hello everybody.
I've been running Windows 7 perfectly on my late 2011 11-inch mackbook air (runs even smoother than Mavericks, seems that Apple forgot about macbook air users when releasing that update, and doesn't even let me downgrade without buying the previous OS X ¬¬)
Ranting apart I've been having the following problem: my Toshiba external 3.0 usb HD drive works perfectly on OS X (always did and still does) but i can't make it work on Win 7. When I plug the usb connector, it appears as it recognized an external hdd, but it isn't able to get the drivers or recognize the drive properly. So it just doesn't work, I can't access it. I've been searching for usb 3.0 drivers for boot camp or win 7 and haven't been successful with what i've found.
Anybody had this problem?
Anybody got to fix it?
I'm really annoyed that i can't use my external hdd.

maybe it's because your ext hd is in mac os filesystem which windows cant read?

I am trying run a dvd on my new Macbook Air, I am running the dvd from my iMac but it is slow and not running correctly.

I am strictly an Elements Windows user who has never worked with Premiere Elements Mac.
Although I realize that some of the features of Premiere Elements Windows and Mac are different, the two programs
have much in common. And, I realize the preference of Mac for files that use the .mp4 or .mov container with the equal
importance of the video compression and audio compression.
H.264.mp4 file has been and should be compatible with Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Windows and Mac. But, we need to define
if we are talking about compatibility in the Elements Organizer 12 versus Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Editor. In this thread, the target appears to be primarily
in Premiere Elements 12/12.1 Mac Editor.
In this case, we do not yet know the video and audio compression that goes with the .mp4 container.
Uncertain significance at this time is that the file sent as a sample via a Dropbox link cannot be
downloaded because "the file is corrupt". And, I am not clear on what the following is all about.

I'm interested in buying a 1.6 GHz (or 1.8 GHz) MacBook Air with a 64GB solid-state drive.
Is it possible to run Windows on such a machine using either Parallels or VMware Fusion?
I won't need to use iLife on this MacBook Air.

Yes, there is enough space on the drive. VMWare Fusion itself needs 140 MB of space. The VM with XP will need about 15 GB once you get all your software on there (Office, etc). There won't be masses of space left, but it will go. I would advice using Monolingual http://monolingual.sourceforge.net/ to remove all unnecessary language packages from OS X. That alone will save you as much space as your XP install without additional software.
Windows runs very well indeed under WMWare Fusion on my MBA for all regular tasks (office apps, email, surfing, IM). What it obviously would not do so well would be graphic-intensive games or CPU-intensive tasks like video editing.
I would recommend Windows 2000 or XP as the guest OS. Definitely not Vista.
