Running Windows XP Pro Need InDesign C6

I am a teacher and am looking at using Indesign in my classroom, but we only have Windows XP Pro on each of the stations.  How can I get InDesign C6 for each computer?

Only Apple could hamstring and tie Mac OS to Windows. There isn't any other than whether you can download the drivers into Windows (you can) but Apple puts a block on the installer setup even if your mac does not support it.
Windows 7 needs at least Boot Camp 3.1 and 3.3 is what you should already have. And you are not getting security updates if you don't have at least 10.6.8 as was pointed out.  --- you arent using Software Update as you should. And you should backup and clone Mac (and Windows) as well.
You need Mountain Lion to use Boot Camp 5.x which supports Windows 7 & 8 and 64-bit.
I would upgrade to Lion if you can realizing that Rosetta and PowerPC are no longer supported though.

Is there a download of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software if I'm not using OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.3?
Yes, you can download the Boot Camp 5 Support Software here.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638
How do I use the Boot Camp 5 Support Software I downloaded from the web page?
The download file is a .zip file. Double click it to uncompress it.
Double-click the Boot Camp disk image.
Copy the Boot Camp and "$WinPEDriver$" folders to the root level of a USB flash drive or hard drive that is formatted with the FAT file system (see question below for steps on how to format).
Install Windows, leaving the flash or hard drive attached to the USB port of your Mac.
Installation of the drivers can take a few minutes. Don't interrupt the installation process. A completion dialog box will appear when everything is installed. Click Finish when the dialog appears.
When your system restarts your Windows 8 installation is done.
Note: If the flash drive or hard drive was not attached when you installed Windows and was inserted after restarting into Windows 8, double-click the Boot Camp folder, then locate and double click the "setup.exe" file to start the installation of the Boot Camp 5 Support Software.
How do I format USB media to the FAT file system?
Use Disk Utility to format a disk to use with a Windows computer. Here's how:
Important: Formatting a disk erases all the files on it. Copy any files you want to save to another disk before formatting the disk.
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the disk you want to format for use with Windows computers.
Click Erase, and choose one of the following from the Format pop-up menu:
If the size of the disk is 32 GB or less, choose MS-DOS (FAT).
If the size of the disk is over 32 GB, choose ExFAT.
Type a name for the disk. The maximum length is 11 characters.
Click the Erase button and then click Erase again.
Which versions of Windows are supported with Boot Camp 5?
64-bit versions of Windows 8 and Windows 7 are supported using the Boot Camp 5 Support Software. If you need to use a 32-bit version, you need to use Boot Camp 4 Support Software, and you must use Windows 7. 32-bit versions of Windows 8 are not supported via Boot Camp. I was updating my iPhone 3g from iOS 4.1 to 4.2.1 when suddenly I lost network connection and the process failed. I have since tried to restore my iPhone 3g with no luck. I keep getting the error code 2009. Which instructs me to check my computer is up to date and all third party security software are turned off. I have done all these pulled out all usb devices but for the one that is my internet modem. I am running Windows XP Pro SP2 on HP DC500 minitower. How do I get out of restore mode. Thank you kindly.

Not sure if you were told what error 2009 is caused by so I'll let you know if you havn;t been informed. In the article http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3694 is says:
    Error 2000-2009 (2001, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2009, and so on)
If you experience this issue on a Mac, disconnect third-party devices, hubs, spare cables, displays, reset the SMC, and then try to restore. If you are using a Windows computer, remove all USB devices and spare cables other than your keyboard, mouse, and the device, restart the computer, and try to restore. If that does not resolve the issue, try the USB issue-resolution steps and articles listed for Error 1604 above. If the issue persists, it may be related to conflicting security software. If the errors persist on another computer and known-good USB cable, the device may need service.

  • Can bootcamp run Windows 8 Pro in OSX 10.8.2?

Can Mac OSX Mountain Lion (10.8.2) run "Windows 8 Pro" in Bootcamp? Since Windows 8 Pro has the ability to run program from passed versions of Windows. This way Windows 8 Pro can run Bootcamp, even though it was made for Windows XP/Vista/7 specificly.
I need to know whether it can damage my MAC, or I am able to install Windows 8 Pro.

    Hi Guys,
I have a client running Windows 2000 Pro (old habits die hard) and she just purchased the 8520.  Upon putting the supplied disk in to install everything (Desktops, drivers, etc.) I get the error stating it needs a minimun of XP to run.  Can I go back to a previous version of the desktop manager and grab the drivers for the 8520 to make this work?  Any help is appreciated.

  • Unable to add network printers from Windows Server 2012 R2 to client running Windows 7 Pro x64

New Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard in the environment.  Added print services to it and added five HP printers to it and shared them.  Also deployed the printers via group policy.
Clients are running Windows 7 Pro x64.  The group policy fails to install the printers (error 0x00000002).  We get the same error when trying to manually add the printer from the client side.
From Event Viewer: Group Policy was unable to add per computer connection <<printer share>>. Error code 0x2. This can occur if the name of the printer connection is incorrect, or if the print spooler cannot contact the print server.
    Any ideas on troubleshooting this?
    Thanks.
    -John

    John,
You might try playing with the HP universal driver, that might help you.  Try installing a new shared printer on the server using the universal print driver, then try and connect to it to see if it is any better.
Check these GPO settings to ensure local machines can install the drivers.
    1. Configure the following two Group Policy settings:
Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\System\Driver Installation\Allow non-administrators to install drivers for these devices setup classesEnabled
    2. Device class GUID of printers: {4d36e979-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}
Computer Configuration/Policies/Administrative Templates/Printers/Point and Print RestrictionsEnabled

  • My computer with Windows 7 Home updated to Firefox v34.0.5 but my two computers running Windows 7 Pro haven't yet updated beyond Firefox v34.0. Something wrong?

See info above. I have re-run the update process at least 10 times on both machines running Windows 7 Pro (most recently this morning), and each time both machines running Windows 7 Pro (one is 64-bit, one is 32-bit) say that Firefox v34.0 is "up to date". I checked Mozilla.org, which states that Firefox v34.0.5 was released in mid-December, but it didn't say anything about whether that update was only for certain OSs. I have also run multiple anti-virus scans from different providers on both machines running Windows 7 Pro, and all scans indicate no issues.
Please advise is there are different versions of Firefox for Windows 7 Home/Pro, or if I am having an issue. If I am having an issue, please advise how I can correct it.

Hello StevenBeary, the 34.0.5 release it is for all users who download a fresh version of Firefox, or download it for the first time. This release will NOT be found via Firefox's update.
Firefox 34, it is the latest release via update. You are OK.

  • Downloaded trial version of Acrobat XI Pro. Attempted to launch but dialog box indicated that the version of AcrobatPro_11_Web_WWMUI.exe is not compatible with the version of Windows (check if 32-bit or 64-bit version is needed). I'm running Windows 7 Pro

Could not launch a trial version of Acrobat XI Pro due to compatibility even though I'm running Windows 7 on a 64-bit machine. Any ideas why not?

Acrobat XI is a 32-bit process, but should run on a 64-bit machine unless something is set to lock out 32-bit processes.

  • Run Windows XP Pro WITHOUT Mac OS on MacBook?

Can I run only Windows XP Pro on a MacBook (without using the Apple operating system)? I'm a longtime PC user thinking of replacing an old Dell laptop with a MacBook. I love the Mac hardware and my 60G iPod and Apple's genius bar service. Could/should I uninstall the Mac OS on a new MacBook, or is it needed to operate the hardware properly? My apologies to Mac lovers for this sacrilege, but I don't know the Mac system and prefer not to learn a new system right now, not to mention some beloved Windows software I want to keep.
I've read about Bootcamp and Parallels and would prefer not to get involved with that if possible. Other possible PC laptops I could buy aren't so feature-rich and lightweight and they cost more than the MacBook.
    Thank you for any advice.

It should work, but I have not done it. I am considering the same thing so that I can run XP64, but I am not sure yet if XP64 drivers exist for MacBook Pro.
The drivers certainly exist for XP, which boot camp utilizes. Also, the limited memory on a laptop may not make XP64 worth the trouble.
The BootCamp solution for XP is actually very nice on my desktop, and the installation of XP under Bootcamp is very smooth. Think of Bootcamp as your dual boot loader for this specific piece of hardware, and sacrifice a small portion of the hard drive to OSX for diagnostics and updates. Also, Apple may well come out with another variant on Bootcamp that you may want to try, an advanced virtualization to run XP or Vista, which is the next problem that you may confront on Jan. 30.
I run Windows XP64 on my desktop MacPro (3rd drive) which manages large amounts of memory well for high end engineering software. Unfortunately, the third hard drive is not an option on a laptop. Bootcamp does not exactly support XP64, but it works very well nonetheless.
If I go with XP on a laptop, then I will certainly keep an OSX system partion on the internal drive, and would highly recommend the same, just in case.
One can always run OSX from an external hard drive that is Firewire. I keep one (ive for loading new firmware and Apple diagnostic programs. Then just set the computer to boot to XP everytime. Alternatively, one can hold down the option key to choose which system to boot from upon startup: OSX, XP, or OSX on an external firewire hard drive. I do not think that Windows will boot from an external firewire hard drive, but I would look around.
I would love to see a Mac Book expansion station that supported eSATA. Does anyone know of one? That would make many things possible with regards to booting non-Apple operating systems.

  • Is there a way to run Windows 8 pro on a Retina Macbook Pro through bootcamp?

I recently purchased a copy of Windows 8 Pro to see if I could run it through bootcamp. I have a USB SuperDrive , so I thought it would be simple enough. However, I'm pretty lost on how to configure my bootcamp to work. I've aimlessly looked at tutorials and such, but none have been of much help. I know the Retina macbook lacks an optical drive, so I believed using a Super Drive would work. If anyone can shed light on this situation and help it would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, but Apple does not yet support Win8, so there are no compatible Windows drivers for the Apple hardware.

  • Installing Windows Xp Pro NEED HELP!!

I have a lenovo 3000 n200 0769 and it has no OS and the hdd is completely clean (it is ntfs formatted). When attempting to install windows xp pro the cd won't self boot (the drive is functioning properly as far as i know). Additionally, i get to the phoenix screen and it remains there.  if im not quick to press the lenovo care button the notebook wont respond to anything. It does give me the options of pressing esc to resume normal startup, F1 to enter bios setup, F11 to diagnose hardware or recover system (which i have tried with the cd inserted but it only takes me to a black screen) and F12 to choose a temp startup device (which also takes me to a black screen) I am able to access the bios setup once the screen turns on by pressing esc then F1 if that helps anyone in aiding my efforts but other then that i can't do anything with the notebook. Could it be something wrong with the bios?
Message Edited by Twizz08 on 08-13-2008 03:05 PM

    Hi !
On boot, press F1 just when the Lenovo logo shows. Navigate to the BIOS boot options and set the system to boot first on the CD device.
Save and exit BIOS. The system should boot on the CD.
If not check either the disk drive (faulty or not ? ) Bios passwd, try to have a USB stick (bootable with some software into it ) and try to boot from it (using F12) .
If nothing works, It may be the mainboard or something like that faulty....
I use a 0769 laptop with vista wiped out for Windows XP so it is feasible. (difficult as the disk is SATA and not IDE so you need a tweaked Win xp install CD)
