Running with my IPOD

Hey Guys
I am sure this issue has come up before but I am posting since I can't find any answers:
My IPOD freezes when I run a lot and I am unable to reboot it. The only way I can get it to work again is if I let the battery run oiut and then recharge it. Sometimes the IPOD will automatically start skipping songs, only playing about 15 seconds of erach before skipping to the next one. I had this problem with my last IPOD, used my warranty to have it replaced, only to have the same problem with my new IPOD. I find that if I hold the IPOD rather than clip it to my shorts it doesn't happen as much. With my last IPOD< it got so bad it would freeze even when I would only walk with it. Any suggestions???

Is it a hard drive based iPod, or a flash based? If its a hard drive based iPod, you could be destroying the hard drive by running with it. If you plan to run with your iPod, best to get a flash based iPod, like a new Nano (2G) or Shuffle.

Can I use my 30GB ipod when running and working out?? I know that it is hard drive based so will running cause problems?

You'll probably be fine with it.
There's always a chance of a problem if you engage in really rigorous activity with a hard drive based iPod... but the chances are pretty good that nothing will happen during routine exercise.
Don't drop any freeweights on the iPod... that will surely cause a problem

  • Is it possible to get intermediate info while running with the Ipod Nano 6th gen?

In the store I was told that the Ipod Nano 6th gen would keep me informed every 500m or every km about my distance, average speed etc.
The Ipod only tells me AFTER the run what my average speed etc was. Not during my run. Is there a possibility to get this info during my run? The store does not know the answer.

  • Running with iPod?

I have a 4g iPod and I am training for a marathon. Can I run with my iPod, or is it not shock resistant. Does it matter if its in a case on my arm, in my pocket or in my hand?
    Thanks

I strongly urge runners and others who exercise
vigorously to not use anything but a RAM based
mp3 player like the shuffle or Nano. Hard drives are
less prone to damage from movement than they were 10
years ago but they are still fragile. Even a smooth
runner might stumble, run into someone, or drop the
iPod which could be enough to damage the platter.
If I was to run with it in a protective case, would that be okay, or is the shock the main problem?

  • Running with iPod: Is it okay?

The main reason I got an iPod was so I could go jogging with it. I recently got a new ipod video, and have now heard that it might not be a good idea to go jogging with it. Is it okay to run with an iPod as long as I use an armband?

Sorry, I was a bit lazy when I posted that. Just found the "Search Discussions" feature and found that many other have had the same question.

  • Anybody run a lot with your ipod video?

Hi, guys. I run a lot everyday and i just wonder if it's ok to run with a ipod video. I know this will increase the possibility of damaging the harddrive. but doesn't apple consider this already and made it robust enough?

well the hard drive buffers approx. 32 minutes ahead. so the likelyhood of skipping is minimal. In the way of negative effects of the motion in runing im not sure i dont run. im sure it would be ok to run with it ....i mean i see alot of people luggin the larger older ipods around asa they run in their hands. And since the new ipod is smaller and lighter im sure it wouldnt be as bad. I would just recommend looking for a durable adn good arm band.

  • Running with the iPhone

I have a 60 GB Photo iPod, and bought an armband to run with the iPod. After year or so, I started to have some problems with the iPod, including the wheel and the iPod freezing. I found out that because my iPod does not have "flash" memory, it is not good to have the iPod bouncing up and down (i.e. running)
Has anyone used an armband with the iPhone? Any problems with the phone/armband? Does the armband keep moisture out?
    Any help is appreciated.

  • Running with 80GB

My husband bought me an 80GB iPod for Christmas. Yes he loves me. But I am a runner and I have read on different discussion boards that you should not run with a "hard drive" iPod. Only a "flash drive" iPod is suitable.
Is this true? What will it do to my iPod?
I have a BodyGlove case that keeps it dry and snug next to me, it doesn't bounce around too much. I do not like using the armband, but I will if that will keep it safer.

Likely running with your iPod is not going to damage it. I use my 30GB on a treadmill at the Y without any issues. It is kind of heavy for running so you might consider a smaller second iPod like a Shuffle or Nano to run with only for the weight issue. But computer hard drives are designed to stand pretty high G forces. As pointed out the issue is more to do with a sudden hard shock like if you drop the iPod on the pavement. Jostling around on your hip is not likely to be an issue.

  • HT1350 Running with nano activating shuffle

when i run with this ipod, is it going think b/c it is shaking it should change songs?  locking the screen sounds like an annoying procedure.. i just want to set a playlist and run, not worrying about it recognizing a shake as a change song command!
from the product description how to deactivate the shake, song change feature??  anyone have experience running with this product?  often on the treadmill, I change up tunes.. my old gen nanos are great b/c i can lock the screen with the flip of a switch.. reluctant to change up unless I am sure I can enjoy the same seamless routine I have with my old gens

My problem with just the armband is perspiration running down my arm and getting close to the top of the nano. I'm checking out cases, but right now, I wrap the nano in a small clear plastic sandwich bag and stick it in the apple armband. I can access everything thru the thin plastic.
I'm hoping to find a decent case gives me a more elegant solution. I don't even want an opening for the hold switch because moisture can run down into it.

You have to hook it up to a computer and update it to ios 5 and then there will be a "software update" button.

  • Is there a way to build an App with CS5.5 that can run in older iPods

    Hello
Does anybody know if there is a way to build an app with flash CS5.5 that can run in older iPods?, just like with CS5?
Each IPA I build with CS5.5 cannot be installed in my iPod 8GB with iOS 4.2 and before with CS5 I could install all the IPAs there and test.
The lack of support to iPod 8GB would be limitating for the market and sales...
Is there some setting to build IPA to older iPods?
    Thanks

    AIR 2.7 release notes:
AIR runs on "iPodTouch 4th generation iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4iPad".
    But:
AIR 2.7 runs on iPod Touch 3rd Generation, too - but only on the 32GB and 64GB models. The 8GB model is in fact only an older 2nd gen iPod Touch.
We tested this and we even have some apps in the app store running on the iPod Touch 3rd gen.
I posted about this, look here:

Whenever I go to iTunes with my iPod 5th generation 32 gb iPod Touch, running iOS 8.0.2, It tells me that the "Other" category is using up 14.59 gb of data. I have no clue why it says this and I have searched the internet for fixes and none worked. I have tried on a windows and a mac and noticed no change. I have tried restoring to a backup but that didn't help. I haven't had time to do a full restore but I will try if the problem persists.

An "other" larger than about 1 1/2 GB indicates corrupted files.
What is the Other on my iPhone and How to Remove It
What is "Other" and What Can I Do About It?
Next, usually restoring from backup eliminated the corrupted files. However, sometimes restoring to factory settings/new iPod is required.
