RunningTotal in Discoverer Plus - Urgent Need

First of all wold like to say thanks for all.
I would need help on RunningTotal in Discovere Plus, for example

I was wondering, I tried using RunningTotal function in Disco Plus while we calculate, but am not sure how it works, like it is asking order by row and someother stuff,.
can anyone guide me onthis exactly how it works or is there any other way to accomoplish it that would be great.

Hi,
You need to use analytic functions to calculate running totals. So, for example, the calculation SUM(A) OVER (PARTITION BY B ORDER BY C) will first group the rows in partitions using column B then sort the rows using column C, then calculate a running total by taking the sum column A from the start of the partition to the current row. The rows may then appear in any order in the report, unless you use a sort in the workbook definition.

Totals not showing in Discoverer Plus - Urgent please

Hi there,Thanks to all for helping on questions and sharing thoughts.
I got a question from user in Discoverer plus, this is an urgent need.
Actually they built report in Plus in Production based on 2 folders with few conditions and all, everything working fine and getting data.
on one column in the report they need Total mean they used Sum but it is showing only lable not the value, like Sum:
Even we tried Cell Sum, no luck, also I tested format of data and changed to NUMBER datatype, SHOW NULLS AS to 0,
And also created calculation to avoid nulls like case statement if it is null then '0' otherwise that value and did Toal on Calculation column, still not working.
I've seen in Disco Admin Dev/QA, that there is joins between these folders and i regarding getting data is not an issue from user I guess.
Can anyone guide me or point me on this that would be greatly appreciated.

I didnt get you, can you explain in brief.
See to avoid null values I created calculation and used case statement.
When I create total using SUM or Cellsum funstions it is not giving data it is giving only the label.
one more thing this is, actually I saved that report on myid and was trying to play and when I try to keep only that column it gave me the result if i add other columns from other folder again getting the same issue.
Any ideas or thoughts on this please.

Many thanks for the guidance. They have hundreds of reports so I have asked them to send me a few however, it feel awkward to ask for all. I have Discoverer9i and they are on Discoverer10g. Do you think this may be an issue ?

Discoverer Plus Drill into Item - URGENT

Is the drill into item option available om Discoverer Plus? Because in Desktop Edition works fine, but in this web version, it's not present in the sheet menu nor double-clicking on any items.

UPDATE:
- when the privileges are changed directly to the user, setting the scheduling to "User is never required to schedule workbooks" helped.
But it means I will have to monitor if a user has been added and setting him this directly. Do you see any option to avoid this (as I said in my post above, users and their private connections and role grants are done automatically).

I have created EUL,Business area with one table in adminstrator at m3. and when i am trying to create new workbook i could not see the business area at the discoverer plus
can u tell me what permissions/settings to be made to access that workbook.
since i am working under big module..this is prototype i should finish it immediately..plz anybody help

2. How does Discoverer Plus actually work? I mean what server settings one has to do for this application?
A. Discoverer is a web based reporting tool which is developed through Java programming. When ever u develop a report in discoverer by clicking folders, joins etc it will automatically writes a query and the same is store it in the discoverer objects.
When ever u execute a report in discoverer, the discoverer will just send only the query to the database, and from the database it fetch the data according to ur requirements.
Regarding server settings its all depends on the environment u are using.
If u are using oracle application 11.5.7 then u really don't need to struggle a lot for server settings because discoverer is a component of Oracle 9i Application server.
3.Can I get some online literature on Discoverer Plus?

Discoverer Viewer - URGENT

Hallo everybody
I need urgent help.
I am runing Discoverer 10g on a Windows 2000 server. This is my situation:
On a normal site(on Synkron) I want to make a link. When I click on this link, I want the repport (the repport is made in Discoverer Plus) to show up in Discoverer Viewer without asking the user for Username or Password or anything else.
Is it posible to set the Viewer up, so it dos'nt ask the user about anything(the user dos'nt have any privileges at all), or to set it up on a way where the Viewer put the Password and Username as default?

You can try this:
1 - Create a public connection to the data, setting then username and password
2 - Open the Viewer and select the report you want
3 - Copy the url generated
4 - Use this url in your site

Discoverer Plus associate with the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure

Hi Everyone,
I just install the Oracle BI (v 10.1.2.0.2) into my 2003 server so I could use the Discoverer Plus and Viewer. This is a stand alone BI installation (I guess, I have little knowledge about Discoverer plus or Oracle AS).
My question is how could I connect the Discoverer plus to my ODS database, so I could create report or view report.
and where to find the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure (or How do I know I have the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure?)
I read the Oracle BI Discoverer Configuration Guide, and it tell me to associate the Oracle BI with the Oracle Application Server Infrastructure to deploy the Discoverer. so I went to the BI Application Server Control page, the Infrastructure section, the Identity Management to configure the Internet Directory, so I could I have the public connection, but it didn't work.
Also do I real need the Oracle AS Infrastructure to make the Discoverer Plus work?

Hi Kevin,
Oracle AS Infrastructure is needed only if you are implementing SSO for Discoverer or using Public connection .
Else only Oracle AS Middle tier is sufficient to work with Discoverer Plus .
Regarding "how could I connect the Discoverer plus to my ODS database, so I could create report or view report"
You need to create the End User Layer (EUL) and then grant privilege to the EUL to users who will be creating the report .

Discoverer Plus 10gR2 not show data when the script of view have package

I have a problem with discoverer plus, I don't know is a problem or I'm doing something wrong.
I have a four views, the views containg in the SELECT stament and WHERE clause packages, example:

When I used the views on discoverer plus for construct the report, when execute the query not show data.
Appreciate it if you could help or tell me I'm doing wrong or does not support Discoverer Plus package execution.

This appears to be a grant issue. Apparently, you have granted execute with respect to this package to the EUL owner or the view would not have compiled. If you have not given EUL owner the grant option, I would recommend doing this as well.
This appears to be an Oracle APPS EUL (tell me if I am wrong). If this is the case, it goes without saying that APPS will need to be granted the execute privilege.
Also, by default, a stored package executes with the privileges of its owner. If your custom package was designed this way, are the objects which it references received the appropriate grant? I assume you tested this, but I am concerned that the line, a.prod = k_xps_tools.f_obt_prod, in the where clause could be resulting in the Null set being returned.

Discoverer plus report does not sum up the column

Hi All,
I am running the discoverer report from discoverer plus (web version) and was
trying to use the sum function to sum the total amount of the report.
The sum function does not work and it only display Cell
Sum: (blank) with no actual data.
When i checked the report details some columns are calculated based on the columns which i want to sum up.
My query uses CASE function to calculate one of the columns.
I changed the aggregation behavior setting to "Show the sum of the calculated values from the contributing cells "
then also i'm not able see the totals.
Any ideas please share with me.

Hard to answer your question without seeing what you are trying to do. Issues like this are often better reported to Oracle support, where they can get a web sesison going and be able to see what you see on your computer. Would be helpful to illustrate exactly what your detail looks like and how you are trying to create your sum. There could be several possible issues that could cause your problem, so all I can do is speculate some. Are you trying to sum one column, or are you creating multiple totals (for multiple columns)? Do you have any rows in the column with a NULL value? NULL values will be a problem when trying to sum up a column. You would need to convert the NUll value to something else, probably a zero. That would be the first thing I would look at. Hope that helps a little bit.

Discoverer Plus not working in Internet Explorer

IE 6.0 on Windows 2000 professional SP4 and all of the patches up to date.
Latest Java run time from Sun.
I hit the link to Plus and it will eventually bring me back to the login screen with all of the parameters empty. It also opens a new window which is in the background that is blank. The java icon does not appear when I click on the link either.
I had the google tool bar installed so I removed this. Still the same result.
I tried this in Firefox and it works perfectly! I have also tried IE with other applets and they all work perfectly.
The environment is all in an Intranet. I have tested this with another Win2K desktop and got the same results. I have also tried plus with an NT desktop and it also does not work.
Anyone else experiencing anything like this?

Found the problem.
The default installation has WebCache listening on port 80 and then Apache is listening on port 7777 or 7778.
Discoverer Plus requires a JVM to run and with IE, it installs a particular version of the Sun JVM. The installer points to a hard coded URL in the $ORACLE_HOME/discoverer/config/configuration.xml file for IE users. For whatever reason, the URL is not pointing to the WebCache port but to the Apache port directly. The configuration file doesn't have a section for Firefox so it just loads a JVM which is already installed.
I had disabled WebCache because it is another layer to fail when I don't really need or want WebCache. I did this by turning off WebCache with OEM and then editing the httpd.conf file. I changed Listen 7777 to Listen 80.
Now when a user with IE tried to open Discoverer Plus, the configuration points the browser to a port that Apache isn't listening on anymore.
The fix is to have Apache listening on both 7777 and 80 when disabling WebCache. Or you can edit the configuration.xml file and and remove the port number so that it gets either 80 or 443 automatically.

Can't Create Saved Connection in 11g (Discoverer Plus).

We're getting ready to go live with a new installation of Discoverer Weblogic 11g, but we have run into a problem. We are getting errors when we have any user try to create a saved login connection from their login screen. We hit "Create Connection" and enter all the required login info (as we always did with our 10g version), but when we hit 'Apply' or 'Apply and Connect' we get the following errors.......
A connection error.
- Oracle BI Discoverer Viewer cannot save the connection. Check for other errors.
- ORA-04063: package body "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" has errors ORA-06508: PL/SQL: could not find program unit being called: "PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.WWSSO_API_PRIVATE" ORA-06512: at line 1
Users can login just fine when they enter all their info on the login screen, this is only happening when we try to create the saved connection. Is anyone else running into this on 11g? Is there a setting we are missing or something? Maybe something in the pref.txt file? Any help would be appreciated, especially since we are being asked to go live soon. Thanks!

Based on the error messages, we can see something is wrong with the package being called. We had a long running help ticket with Oracle opened, but in our opinion, it was not really resolved. We provided the following info after a request from Oracle....
The package does exist. The package is valid but the package body is invalid due to missing dependant objects
It is owned by PROD_DISCOVERER_PS.
The database version is 11.2.0.1.0 (64 bit)

In the end (after a lot of back and forth), Oracle could not reproduce our problem on their test system. Because their test system uses Enterprise Edition and we installed Standard Edition, their solution was that the issue is caused because we are using Standard Oracle DB and we should be using Enterprise Edition. Creating a saved connection doesn't sound at all like something that would be affected by Standard or Enterprise edition. That's not an easy "solution" for us right now, and we can use a real fix. That's like taking your car into the shop because your blinkers don't work on your 2010 model car and the dealer's solution is "Oh, your 2010 car blinkers don't work? We have a 2011 model and they work just fine. You'll need to buy a 2011 car so the turn signals function."

Discoverer Plus - How to include variable text in the Title

I need to include a variable text in the report like the user information or another information i woul like to obtain from a query that is not the standars date,time,... oracle discoverer plus improves us.
I tried with calculations associates to a parameters, but is not possible.

This can be done by creating a parameter, then a calculation, then a condition. Then under "Edit Header" or Page Setup, choose "Header" or "Footer"as needed and choose to insert the Parameter.
Step by step Example instruction:
1-Create a parameter as follows:
--Item = NONE
--Name = "Workbook run by" (This will appear in the heading or title when workbook run)
--Prompt = "Please enter UserID in all capital letters"
--Description and Default value left blank
2-Create a Calculation
--In New Calculation choose "Function" then choose the function "USER" from Database. (This is all that the calculation will need.)
--Name Calculation = i.e.: "DB_USERID"
3-Create a condition as follows:
--Name = Request_UserID
--Item = DB_USERID
Condition = IN
Value = Choose parameter: Workbook run by
-Double click on worksheet title, choose Insert, then choose Parameter (This can be done the same way under Page Setup for Header and Footer
-The calculation will create an extra column which I put at the top as a Page Item
-This will force the user to enter the UserID they are logged in to Discoverer with.
-This is case sensative. Therefore, since all Databe IDs are stored on the Database in all-caps, then the user will have to enter in all caps as well.

How to pass parameter to a Discoverer Plus OLAP Worksheet??

Hi,
I have used discoverer plus OLAP and portal to develop executive dashboards in my company. I put my date dimension in Page Item of discoverer plus OLAP worksheet to view a specific week/month/year of analysis i.e. Jul-07.
Now I have to open all the worksheets and change the page item value when week/month ends. If it was 'Jul-07' then I have to change it as 'Aug-07'.
In discoverer plus OLAP we can't pass parameters as we can in discoverer relational.
Can someone help me how I can set the new values without opening discoverer worksheets?

I downloaded the Oracle Application Server SOA Suite 10.1.3.1.0. While installing It gave me two options
1. Basic Install
Install J2EE server and SOA suite of applications including BPEL, ESB
and OWSM.
2. Advance Install (This gives 4 options)
a. J2EE Server, Web Server and SOA suite
b. J2EE Server and Web Server
c. J2EE Server
d. Web Server\
According to your instructions I need to install it as Insfrastructure, BI and portal. Now can you tell me which option of the install I should select in order to meet the requirements of Infrastructure, BI and Portal.
Because I am very new in this technology so If you can guide to me to get started at least then I can follow the Oracle Tutorial for further training.

Out of Memory Error in Discoverer Plus

Has anyone run into and found a solution for 'OutofMemory error occured'?
The java console shows -
java.lang.OutOfMemoryError
<<no stack trace available>>
I've done some searching on Metalink and have opened an SR which pointed us to a general what-to-do-for-performance-issues doc. So far we've patched our 10.1.2.3 Discoverer Plus instance up to the latest CP7 but the issue persists.
I'm curious to see if anyone has encountered this error and what they did to fix it.

Well it's certainly possible that the local query governor settings on his machine have been adjusted and it's also possible that his profile is also set in Admin.
As the Admin, try logging in to edit his account using Tools | Privileges. Then look at the query governor settings and remove any restrictions that you might see.
On his side, get him to log into Plus and use Tools | Options to see if any restrictions are set.
Next, can he run simple queries on his machine.
And, can other users run the large query he wants to run?
We need to find out for sure whether teh fault is with his machine or with his account. If it turns out to be the account and that he is barred everywhere then it sounds like somehow that memory settings have been defined for him and for him only.
The next step is quite tricky so take a backup first. Get yourself a copy of the .reg_key.dc file which you will find in the Discoverer folder on the application server. You can edit this file with any text editor such as Wordpad. You're going to have to search this file and see if you can find any entries in there that specifically relate to your user. Any that you find please let me know. It's also very important not to be editing the original file while the system is up as this is where all of the default, system and user preferences are stored.

Performance when executing query on 9iAS Discoverer Plus 1.0.2.2

Hi, anybody knows when there's information about Discoverer Plus configuration (9iAS release 1) to get a good performance? Because, when I run queries, the response time is not good enough.
I have configured the pref.txt file based on the advises of "Oracle 9iAS Discoverer: Best Practices for Release 1.0.2.2 (Discoverer 4i Version 4.1.42x and later)" paper, but without the expected results. Does exist another document about that?
